Cosmographer I was on Cilest (birth control pill) before and the only time I ever had problems was during the week between strips (ie the period time) and if I stopped tracking my food on here (when I basically stopped eating again!)

Okay not going anywhere is good Laughing, I haven't been around much this weekend as our local pub has had a real ale festival (Mark [OH] has been really happy!), at the moment my weight it back up but I think this is a temporary "blip" due to too much salt and too many hard ciders!

Hi The_Dragon, I really don't know where to place me.. Shifting half of the body weight sounds nice, never thought of it like that.. Anyway... I'm here for you if you will have me as a friend. I've been at this Life Style Change of mines for over a year now.. Losing a total of 49 pounds before rejoining CC from a 2 year leave. Due to stress and depression. I was 226 when I started on March 9 of 2007, and after losing alot of the weight I had a 4 month plateau during the holiday's and after seeing that nothing was going to change.. I had to rejoin CC for the best support around the world, on March 23/24 of 2008.. One of those day's.. Losing another 10 pounds with 22 more to go. My goal weight is 145, and I am going to get their hell or high water.. I've lost a lot of weight, and it took a lot of soul searching to do it. Not only that.. It took eating right and moving my body more, and looking deep into what was the reason of the weight gain. You are going to do just fine.. I have faith in you.. I am so sorry about all the physical pain you went through, but better days are ahead for you.. I'm wishing you nothing but the best.. I'm here for you if you need me.

Lynn

It sounds as though you are planning well Lynn and will achieve it sooner rather than later with that attitude (when you get there will you be a cheer leader for the rest of us please!)

Hi the_dragon~ i too have just come off of steroids and am working my way off of cellcept. I have pemphigus folliacious. I was bed ridden and taking 125 mgs of prednisone a day. I know how you feel when you just can't do anything about it and all you can do is see it pile on. I am a firm believer in eating the calories you need to get to your goal. You have to eat to lose.... that sounds funny i know. The best thing to do is eat 6 times a day. Now that i am back to work, people are always telling me that i am always eating, but I am losing the weight. Finally even the moon face, i actually have cheek bones again. I do eat all day, but i eat about 150 to 200 calories each time i eat. I am always full because i eat lots of fruit and veggies. for snacks i keep lightly salted rice cakes and peanut butter in my drawer. Soy crisps are another snack i always keep. You have got to eat your caloric requirements. if you don't your body will continue to hold onto what you have gained because it thinks it needs it. It goes into a defensive starvation mode and besides, coming off of steroids, you need your fill of good foods. Don't forget your health as you try to lose the weight your nutrional needs such as your daily vitamins need to be met. I still can't take any over the counter vitamins, so i have to make sure that i am getting all of my nutrional need thru food. Just make sure you are doing this and you will meet your needs. Sorry for the long response. If you need to talk, I've been there!

Flip I thought I was taking a lot with 30mg a day!

Snacks (healthy variety) are a good call, I have started eating at least one apple a day and a small amount of cheese (I cannot eat peanut butter as I am fatally allergic to peanuts and tree nuts), also I need to make sure I have enough calcium as I tend to drink water or fruit tea during the day so having an ounce of cheese makes sure I have some calcium a day.

I cannot seem to eat all the kcals that Calorie Count wants me to, but I am eating more than I was AND I am getting over a thousand a day which for me is excellent!

Hi the_dragon,

I started on this site and mydiet on April 21st with half my body weight to lose, I need to go from 210 lbs to 105 lbs, as I am only 4' 8 and 3/4" tall. Ihave lsot 6 pound so far, so am really pleased, but have a long way to go. Now how you feel about seroids, when I get asthma I have to take them in very high doses, which is not as long as you but I start on 10 a day and work down over a period of time.

It is hard to eat enough calories, but I have been reading lots of posts, and those who don't eat enough just don't lose - it is very simple. I have taken this to heart, and log everything so I can see how much more I need to eat to make my quota, I am not going to stop losing just because I stopped eating.

Good luck with the weight loss, andyou are not on your own, those of us with half our body weight to lose will eventually be half the size, but think of the shopping spree, and how proud we will be of our achievement.

Vera

Isn't it chronic great what steroids do to us! I think almost every one I have talked to that has had to take them has piled on a minimum of their original body weight!

So keeping a check on food and making sure I actually eat is a good start.  I am also going to measure myself weekly (at least) because if I lose inches I will start to feel better soon as well!

Hi the_dragon:

I feel your pain! I'm on long term steriods for lupus. They are a great medicine but wow can they make you fat, among a lot of other problems too. I've been as high as 30 mg a day, I've tapered down to 7.5mg a day currently. I'm also hypothyroid so that doesn't help! How much prednisone are you on?

I'm 5'9", weight 238, my ideal weight with my bone structure is 165. So, I don't need to lose half the body weight but 73 pounds, which is pretty close!

You can do it! :)

Ooh pepperminty, that is bad news - my steroids I am on 30mg BUT I only need to take them if the pain is really bad (about 4 days out of 7! for instance today I need to take them because I was out and about yesterday - but Mark [OH] has been forcing fruit tea and water down me! which should help)

Good luck on the 70 pounds!

I've already lost more than half my body weight. So I'm proof it can be done...

I weighted 294 and I now weigh 121. Lost 173 pounds. 16 months, light exercise and watching my calories is all it took. It can be done.

:) So just hang in there.

Wow well done you!!! and this was through Calorie Count I am guessing?

Huge amounts of applause coming your way Tongue out

I'm close dragon, so I'll join if you'll have me!

I started at 301 pounds and am wanting to get to 170, I'm 6'0" tall... that's almost half!!

Hi indiwarrior, at least you have the advantage of height over me - I'm 5' 6.5" and my top weight was 321 pounds (boy did I almost pass out at the docs when I was told THAT figure), Calorie Count really does seem the way to go as I am now down to 301.5 and counting!

Here's hoping we can succeed this time - I certainly am planning on doing so!

Wow - I thought I was the only one with this amount of a problem, it is great to see you all (and I will respond individually later Smile), but in a way NOT great to see you all - because we all have this weight problem mainly caused by illness and drugs (thanks the docs for mucking our systems up even more!)

Thanks sweet_freak - it was when I started counting my kcals on here that I realised how few I was eating!! (mind you the docs kept telling me to cut down my food - and I did as I was told!)

I hope you manage to succeed soon!

I used to know Oxfordshire well (well at least Oxford!), I went there for Uni - hubby went to Cambridge (shall we say I enjoyed the boat race this year and he didn't LOL)

No problem with adding me as a friend (having more people than OH checking up on me will be good LOL) - hmm got to try and shift a reasonable amount before a week on Saturday - we are going out for our mutual birthday meals (okay early March for me and early April for him!) and we are going for a Chinese meal Innocent - wish us luck Laughing

Hi Dragon!

Welcome to CC Laughing I think it's great your husband is on here along with you! My husband is too.. for us it's better to do things together and that helps you stay motivated. What kind of dog do you think you might get? The mini poms are way cute! Hope you have a wonderful day, and again - Welcome!

Thanks caudillbug!

We are hoping to give a rescue dog a new home so provided it is about the size of a West Highland or a Jack Russell we will be happy.  Mark is looking forward to long walks morning and evening and I am looking forward to a short walk at a lunchtime (I can only walk about 200 yards before I have to stop due to pain!)

I'm here in Cambridge, UK - I was following a diet through a club that was costing me a fortune and I wasn't losing any weight!  My hubby started following this (as he couldn't get to the club with me) and has lost a stone (14 pounds) so I thought I would give it a go and it seems to be working so far! Laughing

So off to start filling out today's diary LOL
