I went to Moxie's last night (a popular restaurant here in the big ole Ontario) and I tried to be good. I got a tandoori slamon salad for dinner, which was delicious, but then I remembered they have my favourite beer on tap there (Big Rock- Grasshopper wheat... mmmmmm) and I gave in and had a beer which took me over my limit AGAIN.

I normally wouldn't worry about it but it seems these past couple of weeks that no matter my intentions, I always seem to go over my limit. Also, it's winter and it's cold and so I am sedentary and do not go for walks like I did in the summer/ fall. I need to do something but it is so hard for me to stick to 1200 calories. Then I see these girls on forums talking about how it's... like... sooooo hard to eat that much and they're going to be sick and they feel so full all the time and ray ray ray, and it is beyond my comprehension.

I am also terribly sick of everyone's need to give me advice. I think by now I know what I need to do, I just can't seem to make myself do it. Perhaps it's the winter blues. I get that sometimes but right now, everytime someone talks to me about how I could eat salad for lunch with the olive oil and vinegar I want to punch them in the mouth. I KNOW that. I just also KNOW that if I were to carry on like that, I would go insane and end up bingeing until I had a stroke because I'd be so unsatisfied. I think I am going to just stick to the plan as well as possible, and try to focus on what's going right in my life. Mind off the negative.

I know a thing or two about cold and rainy. I'm in Ontario and it's cold and snowy. and dark mostly. The solstice approaches and I swear there's three hours of light though they claim it's more like 7 or 8.

No wonder I'm getting fatter. I'm constantly huddled in a ball.

*sigh*

I am on a steady incline up for some reason. Could very well be stress and water retention, but it's not a good sign. I've been back on the train for a couple of days, and seen nothing but the upwards trend.  I'm not losing hope though, because I already know I can do it, I just have to try. Octo- -are you on "the pill"? I had an issue a couple of months ago where I went off it and my body freaked out when I tried to go back on. Being sick sucks, but hey - at least the boobs got bigger right?

Ugh. Do I ever hear you. I can't believe what I've been eating the last couple of days, and it's showing on the scale. SCARY! Best thing to do is chin up, no regrets, and start a fresh day. If you're not proud of yesterday, make a today that you can be proud of.

Alright people, I'm back on the wagon (for today at least) I'm happy to see this thread has somewhat survived over the time that I've been gone, I'm hoping to bring it back to life! Quick question: I've always felt, never skip brekkie and you won't eat as much later in the day, but I find I have no time lately, which I would normally consider a cop-out, but what if I eat lunch really early, and it's nice like low-sodium soup, can I just consider that brekkie and say I skip lunch? Haven't made it over the 200 lb hump really. I've been stuck from not caring. I want to get under 200 by New Years though, so my resolution will be to CONTINUE losing weight as opposed to START losing weight. Anyone else have a New Years goal?

I was never raised to think of marriage as a religious institution, simply the obvious way to celebrate and make official your relationship. So maybe since I never had to renounce religion (I never nounced it in the first place), I don't have the same negative connotations.

But really, it seems m_c's arguments are against marriage in general, not the marriage for gays, so perhaps this thread has gone a little off track?

Woah woah woah. Never EVER said I was AGAINST it. Actually I specifcally said I wasn't against it... Just don't understand it in a non-religious format, and therefore never understood why gays fought so hard to achieve the distinction.

Edited to include: My issue is lack of education, obviously.

There are so many archaic rules that the government needs to rethink. Like Child-tax credit. (Sorry moms and dads) we no longer need to work to keep the species alive, it's going quite well, and the industrial age came a long time ago, and the need for 10 kids to work the farm is gone. People have kids now for their own wants. We are running out of natural resources, the Earth is over populated. There is no need to encourage baby-making with money. If you cannot afford to raise one, you shouldn't have one. Of course, like everything, there are exceptions that should eb considered on a case-by-case basis, but the majority of parents should not be given money just for popping one out. (IMO)

To be honest, it doesn't matter to me who wants to get married and why, but the way I was educated, marriage has been a religious ceremony for the last 1800 years or so. Regardless of how it started (I know Bagga, I know, it's wrong and I accept your authority on the matter) Which is why it has been a bad taste in my mouth since I renounced religion at 19. I just want to know WHY people want to get married.
What is it that is so alluring? Not saying it's wrong or wierd, just don't understand that attraction.

For the most part our government does not recognize guy/girlfriends rights. A marriage certificate is a document that puts a spouses wishes above the opinions of other immediate family members in the eyes of the law.

Who do you feel has more of a say in relationship matters and the business end of such, your mates mom or you?

Is that it? Marrying to make sure when you die your mate gets the say instead of your mom?

If it's because it's a religious ceremony, why do conservatives get all up in arms about gay people marrying, but not about atheists marrying?

Actually, I have been "informed" by a couple of very fundamentalist Christians that hubby and I aren't "really" married the way marriage is "intended", even if recognized by the state.  Of course, these are the same people who insisted I'm angry, in denial of God, and lead a joyless meaningless life.  I didn't take them too seriously.

Good for you for not taking them seriously. I meant more, why isn't it a political issue?

I think what she means is that a lot of Christians are in denial that Athiests aren't in denial... If that makes any sense. We're not considered a real group of people. There was a quote in Religulous though that Athiests/ Agnostics make up over 16% of Americans. That's a larger minority than African-Americans.

I don't think marriage should have any effect on taxes IMO. I don't agree that is why gays want to get married either, I just mentioned that I've heard that as a theory. I dislike the perks married people get. Just because I don't feel the need to declare myself legally commited to someone, doesn't mean I should have to pay more. I think it's another archaic rule that should be abolished.

#36 Check your facts, marriage did not start as a religious ceremony and had nothing to do with the christian god.

That came later.

Never said Christian God Bagga. I use God as a relative name for an entity. Sorry.

This one gets me. The purpose of marriage started as a religious ceremony. To unite two people in the eyes of "God". It made no sense to anyone in the beginning for homosexuals to get married, because God is supposedly against the unity of homosexuals, and therefore anyone who is a homosexual must either not believe in God, or just not care about his wrath, and therefore, should not feel a desire to be united in his eyes. Then came the argument that homosexuals want to get married for tax benefits. Well if that is true, and hey why not, why can't we come up with something new? A new name for their union. Not a marriage, but a binding... unity... something. I am heterosexual, but because of my agnostic views, I would prefer to be united with a man than married to him. So I put it to anyone who is homosexual on this site, or who knows one well enough to answer for them. Why DO you want to get married? In answer to your question Schnooder, people compare gay marriage to that of a man and a goat because that's how ridiculous it seems to them. They're not saying it should be right for a man to marry a goat, they're being sarcastic and implying that gay marriage is non-sensical.

Maher is a progressive thinker. He does get a bit pushy in some interviews, specifically the christian fundamentalist interviews, but nothing near the extent of Michael Moore, whom I find terribly annoying.

am looking forward to seeing "Religulous" glad to hear it's good.

I tell you Kathy, he did an amazing job! Many think that the purpose of the film is to entice people to the "dark" athiest side, but all he really does is try to convince people that killing and segregating in the name of an improvable theory like God, is obviously stupid. Three thumbs up to Maher. (Plus he's damn funny the whole time)

Hi! Is that a movie? I've never heard of it.

Never even HEARD of it? Then, my dear Kim, you've never LIVED!

just kidding. It's a documentary discussing the hilarity of the Jesus story, amongst other taboo religious subjects. You really need to have an open mind or be agnostic/ athiest to enjoy it.
