Fitness Best Heart Rate Monitor for Cyclist? Apr 19 2008

Thanks, I had a Polar and it was stolen.  Really missing it and thought I would see if there was any other types that may be better. You're right, I did like it.  It was like having my journal stolen, sad.

CROWLEYA- did you ever figure out what to do in this situation?  I am having the same problem.  I am reading the Cyclist's Bible right now and maybe I haven't been through the right chapter, but still wondering how to lose and maintain performance. Any ideas?

Hello, hello!

Fairly "newby" to CC. I think that this is a great thread. Yeah for me, yeah for us!  Been cycling for almost 3 years (2 good seasons without injury).  My hubby and I took it up as a "common thread" we wanted to develop.  We ride a lot together, until he goes "turbo" on me and then.............. well we don't ride together, until I catch up.  Serious athlete in other arenas before our great friends pulled us into this sport and here I am.  Fought the weather here in Vegas with killer wind and bitter cold (for us desert rats, all relative right?). Stayed on for most of the winter but loving the warmer weather coming on.  Did my first EVER TT recently, scared myself by putting my butt on the line. I try and teach my little ones something that I just keep telling myself also: "we do hard things".  IT FEELS GREAT! Will probably do it again.  Oh yeah, my BIG race is LOTOJA a 206 mile, one day race. Got my work cut out for me!  Took 2nd place on a relay team last year.  If all goes well, doing the whole thing this year.

Fitness What did you accomplish fitness wise today to make you a better person? Apr 10 2008

I woke up this morning knowing that I had to make a decision. Do the hard thing or not.  Today my hard thing was to participate in a 30 mile time-trial on my bike (the first time I have raced a short distance).  I was nervous, justified to myself why it would be alright not to go and just do my regular training ride, GOT BACK IN BED just to feel my warm sheets again and then it accured to me (as "it" sometimes does) about the feeling I have AFTER I do the hard things that I am faced with in life.  I DID IT, achieved an alright time and spent the ride home grateful for the courage that we can carry from one trial to the next and grow as a person from that.  Am I a better person? I don't know, but did I gain strength that I can share with my family and friends today? YES!  Good, Better, Best? We all have to choose from one moment to the next.  The trick is to always be striving to improve and if you worked toward being the BEST person you see yourself as today, then good job. If not, strive for more tomorrow, and good luck. Thanks for asking, it was nice to take a moment and apply the ACTIONS I go through each day to the big picture.
