| The Lounge | What does an American accent sound like? | Apr 21 2008 23:07 (UTC) |

In movies set in Baltimore, MD, I can always tell if the actors are native or at least take the time to learn our accents. The Wire and Ladder 49 are pretty good. In the commercials for "Step-Up 2," the chick talking pronounced "Baltimore" the way it looks. Haha! That is not how we actually pronounce it. IT is Bawldimooore. We also say Warshingtun D.C. It's hilarious. It's Charm City hun! |

| Health & Support | How much weight to lose, or how many months of excersizing until it has an effect on high blood pressure or cholesterol? | Apr 21 2008 23:01 (UTC) |

For your cholesterol, working out and limiting the amount of animal-derived foods will cut it dramatically. Around easter, I decided to become a Vegetarian after my doc told me my Cholesterol was at 205, when it should be less than 200. I got my cholesterol re-checked last week and it was at 183. I work out about 2 hrs a week. Exercising at increasing rates of intensity make your blood pressure go down. Also, cut back on your salt intake. I can't remember why, but it is bad for you blood pressure.

I set a goal of burning 1000 calories at the gym today. It was a pain. It took two hours. But, I did it, so hopefully I will see the poundage begin to melt off... Now I have to write paper. Bleh |

| Fitness | How long do you have to jog for for it to do you any good? | Apr 15 2008 17:27 (UTC) |

It depends on what you want to do. If you are just starting out (like I am) you don't want to start off by jogging. You want to walk. There is less risk for injury that way. Starting out at 10 minutes is good. You want to work your way up to 30-60 minutes a day to lose weight. Even if you are too tired to do 30 minutes in a row, splitting it up for a TOTAL of thirty minutes a day is just as effective. Good luck! |

It may take your body a while to "remember" how to digest it. It's like people who get out of jail and go eat a pizza. Their bodies are not used to digesting it, and it makes them very ill. If you are choosing to eat meat again, do it very slowly. I just went vegetarian a few weeks ago. I have never felt better in my life. I have lost 8 lbs too. |

| Health & Support | How many grams of fibre? | Apr 15 2008 16:50 (UTC) |

25-30G IS GOOD. Do not eat too much fiber though. It will push the food through too fast and you will not get the vitamins and minerals you need. |

Hey ladies! I am glad I found this group! I am trying to lose about 80lbs. I realize this is a group for 100 lbs or more, but I need support too. I cannot deal with chicks who need to lose 5 lbs to fit into their size 0 bikini or something. Hopefully, I will gain some ideas.

Original Post by paperchain: Whey is a by-product of cheese manufacturing- the other is curd. It separates from the milky product. I am not sure what they do to make it a powder, if it is just dried. If you are a vegan, it sounds like a bad idea. |

I wasn't trying to be insulting about the "super duper." Vegans are hardcore. I have lots of respect for you all. I have found a substitute I can live with for the ice cream. A banana, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, soymilk smoothie thing. It's delish. Very healthy also. Thanks for the encouragement. |

Technically, pescetarianism is a form of semi-vegetarianism. I'm sure fish can feel when they suffocate. They thrash around as they die don't they? The fact is, some people eat fish because they don't realize fish can feel themselves die, for health reasons, or because they are just starting out in a vegetarian lifestyle. I am part of the latter group. I just decided to become vegetarian last week. I am taking small steps. I cut out beef, poultry, 95%of cheese, and all my milk. I quit my icecream! Do you know how hard that is for an icecream lover? It is difficult. I haven't decided if I am going to eat fish. The point is, pescetarians are moving in the right direction. They may get there one day. In this society, where meat, cheese, sugar, and dairy are thrown in our faces, I have alot of respect for anyone who even TRIES to go semi-vegetarian. To the Vegans and Super-duper vegetarians--- How do you feel when some uninformed carnivore scoffs at your "hippie-esque" food choices? You get defensive and explain your point of view. Just give semi-vegetarians, sometimes vegetarians, and other types of vegetarians a break. |

I read "Skinny Bitch." As of one week ago, I am a pesco-vegetarian. I haven't actually had any fish yet, but it is the only thing I cannot give up. Perhaps as I get more used to this lifestyle I can take the plunge into a totally meatless world, but I haven't the balls yet. I feel lighter and happier. It is a great feeling. |

| Health & Support | Does it mean I'm overweight if my stomach isn't flat..? | Apr 01 2008 03:01 (UTC) |

Your tummy may not be flat because there is alot of muscle underneath. Try not to compare yourself to people in the media. They can afford liposuction. Just be healthy. |

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
