I feel a lot of relief after reading this thread. Thank you Res and congrats on your weight loss! You look like you're a normal, healthy weight to me. I stopped losing weight a year ago, and I had lost it slow. So people who see me all the time either didn't notice (because it was slow and steady) or got use to it. I am also at a healthy BMI. However, a couple good friends who have known me for years have recently expressed their concern. One is a female who told me my arms are too sinewy (I have some tight muscle definition, heh heh). The other is a guy who said he isn't use to the "scrawny" me and wasn't sure if he liked my new, thinner look. Said I had always been "thick" (about 30lbs more) and he liked me that way (just went through this with him last night). I trust these friends so their statements cause some conflict since I can never seem to accurately gauge how I look. Thankfully (besides this thread), I have other fabulous friends, family and co-workers who have told me I look healthy and not too thin (one guy recently said I was buff...cracked me up). I know it's just gonna take some people longer to get use to it, but I'm still constantly stuck between thinking I should gain 5lbs then thinking I should lose 5lbs. It's a head trip for sure. So I just stay where I'm at. |

I slice up vegetable medley's all the time. Example; diakon, cucumber w/peel, green peppers, mushrooms, and sugar snap peas and put them all in a big bowl. Occasionally I'll add apple slices or vinegar and pepper, but most of the time I just eat it all plain. On cooler days I microwave my bizarre combination with a bit of spray butter. It's not really an officially named salad, but I love vegetables, so the variety mixed into one sitting works for me. I am full for hours after eating this. |

I've been there. A pound of fat is 3500 calories. So to gain a pound of fat in one day, you would have to eat/drink 3500 calories OVER what you burned that day. 3 pounds of fat gained would be 10,500 calories in addition to the 2000 or so calories that you would naturally burn off in a day. Summary is; any weight you put on during your Bud Light Lime and snacking day is not fat and you have not set yourself back at all. Just don't do it every day. I call these "oops days" and have experienced a few of them since I started eating healthy and losing weight over a year ago. I've never gained back any of the fat I lost and continued to lose weight at a good pace. On these rare oops days (moderation) , I have gained up to 10 pounds of food and water weight (ug) that typically goes away in a couple days. It's always a little freaky, but I've had it happen enough that I know the drill. I've been maintaining more or less for over a year and give myself a 5lb "cushion" since it's normal for a body to fluctuate in weight daily. To get rid of it; drink plenty of water, sweat some of it out with excersice, and eat healthy food. Basically, get back on track. |

| The Lounge | Best Self-Tanners? | Aug 10 2009 03:50 (UTC) |

I used the Jergen's gradual tanners (one type for face and one for body) and was frequently complimented on my "early tan" and "glow". I liked it because it was subtle and looked natural. And as another poster pointed out, if I started looking too dark, I'd just apply it less often. No steaking or weird orange spots. Good stuff. |

Original Post by schnooder: I've read every book in this series. They're a lot of fun! The HBO series "True Blood" is based on these books. And, wow, I thought I was the only person who's read The Good Earth. I loved that book. I just finished "Water for Elephants" (it was okay) and am now reading "Sunshine", by Robin McKinnley. It's another book about supes. Although I'm good about mixing some good literature into my collection, I just love books about the supernatural.

| Weight Loss | OMG What should I do?? | Aug 09 2009 00:18 (UTC) |

When I was still losing, I found a pair of GAP curvy that I liked but they were just a tad snug, so I held off. Not quite worth the $59-69 price. Went back in last weekend (about 6months later) and found the same jeans priced down to $9.97 instead of the original $59-69 they had been. I'm wearing them right now and they fit perfect. So, maybe wait a couple months and see if you can get a sale price. And if you're still losing, you may find yourself in an even smaller size by then. |

How do you feel about befriending him first? While at work. It's a good way to get to know someone and see if it's more than just initial attraction. Of course, it's a little tricky to turn your mind in this direction. But if you can pull it off, it will also take loads of pressure off. I've made several great male friends this way. Initially thought they were hot, then got to know them and lost the lust (shh, don't tell them). There is that thing about dating people at work. So you may want to consider potential consequence there. |

| Weight Loss | Chewing ur food | Aug 05 2009 06:36 (UTC) |

I've always had a tendency to rush through my meals and am trying to break that habit because... The enzymes in the saliva (and, of course, chewing) help break down the foods, aiding in digestion. I take extra care to chew things like almonds to the point of mush. It is a good thing to chew food thoroughly and isn't obsessive. There is actual a real health related reason for it. Thought it would be good to back myself up (figuratively, not literally...since I properly chew my food). Here is one SOURCE among several that go into it a bit more. Edited to Add: I don't actually count my chews. I just try to make sure I've mushed everything up well before swallowing. |

I don't understand the chemistry behind it...but every year my weight springs up in Spring, and falls down in Fall. I always seem to gain 5-10 lbs WATER WEIGHT in warmer weather. Something about the heat, increased activity, food choices (BBQs, camp-outs, and beer, oh my!)...all sorts of factors. But I stay in a healthy calorie intake zone, eat fresh food most of the time, and try to stay hydrated. As soon as the weather cools, my weight goes back down (sometimes below where I thought it would be). When the temperature shot up over 100 degrees last week, I gained 5lbs. When it went back down to 85 degrees, I lost 5 lbs without changing a thing. So, maybe your body is just responding to warmer temperature? |

| The Lounge | why do/did or don't you want kids? | Aug 01 2009 21:10 (UTC) |

I've tried to answer this with a better explanation, but it's too long. So basically, I'm that aunt and much older sister (youngest brother is 20 years younger) who is always available as a safe haven. I know I don't NEED to have children just like I know I don't NEED to get married. My sister told me once that my decision to not have children (not so much a decision, just not a plan) was selfish. I asked how her decision to have children was unselfish. She had not an answer and hasn't brought it up again. |

| Foods | "That weird diet food you eat"--healthy eating stigma? | Jul 25 2009 08:30 (UTC) |

Yeah, my friends like to check out my cupboard and fridge items for entertainment. They think it's amusing that I eat plantains, wheat germ, low sodium and sodium free soups, spike seasoning, pumpkin puree, so many vegetables and fruit, etc. They also think it's bizarre that I freeze fruit (grapes, blueberries) and sweeten everything with stevia. I've been given "looks" because I turn down wine for hot tea and when I do drink alcohol, it's usually whiskey with root beer instead of coke or 7-up. Okay, maybe that last part is a bit weird. |

I had "detention" on my graduation day because I was caught skipping class the week before. Probably the most pointless and silly punishment I've ever received. Hadn't ever gotten in trouble at school before, so I guess I'll consider it an essential experience in the nick of time. |
