Just wanted to say a quick hello! I just started a new full time job after not working for a few years and it is taking all my time and attention right now. I'll try to check in again soon and hope that everyone is doing great! |

Sorry that I've been MIA these past few weeks! I started a home business and I've been putting all my effort into getting it off the ground. Time consuming to say the least. Needless to say, my weight loss efforts have been but on the backburner. It's time to get going again though!
As for this weeks topic, it's something I'll have to give some thought too. I know my biggest reasons for not losing weight(lack of consistant exercise, not planning and sticking to a healthy eating plan). The trick is figuring out what I can do and am willing to stick with long term to accomplish those tasks. I'll let you all know what I come up with later:) |

Sorry about being MIA this last little while.....with school starting back up for my kids, an out of town vacation over the long holiday weekend, and starting my own business(anyone heard of Scentsy candle warmers) I haven't had much free time at all! I really love the topic this week and hope I can find some spare time to do it:p With so many things going on in my life right now I could definitely use some organization to keep myself on track. |

Like quite a few of you, I have chosen to put the scale away for the time being. I am choosing to focus instead on how I feel and how my clothes are fitting, as well as listening to feedback from others. I have found this to be a much better motivator over all. This is a tough one for me, but I need to choose to say no when I feel the need for instant gratification. There are times when I find myself thinking that just one little candy bar won't hurt in the long run, but feel guilty the second I cave. From now on, I will resist the urge to have what I want right then and there. If after a reasonable period of time I still find I am craving something specific, I will allow myself a small portion of whatever it is. I have found recently if I don't give into the immediate craving it usually goes away after that item is out of sight. |

healthfirst- you expressed my thoughts exactly! I too have a problem with the all-or-nothing mentality! I will do really well for a while, be it a week or a month, then something will happen to cause me to slip, and it is a fast and furious downward spiral from that point on. Until I can manage to pick myself back up, dust myself off, and start fresh again! I was on the "fresh start" portion of that phase when I started my month long body purification cleanse, and was very successful. I lost 17 lbs and several inches and was feeling really good about my progress. I then took a vacation and what was supposed to be a week long break, turned into a three week extended trip. Doesn't help a diet/exercise plan much when you are out of town and eating out for most if not all your meals! So, there was my slip, and since that time I have not been able to get myself firmly back on track! The good news is that my kids start school next week which will leave me with uninterupted time to get my workouts in. And I may be starting a new job which will help curb my bored/mindless eating. On top of that, my husband and I, along with about 4 other couples, are booking a trip to Mexico for next spring. These three things combined should be the push I need to get going again! |

Hmmmm......a 12 week goal you say? I think a big one for me is to have cut out most if not all refined sugar/flour from my diet. I struggle with eating to many pre-packaged food items, which I know is sabotaging my weight loss efforts. I can't go cold turkey or I'll crack. What I need to do is to figure out an average of what I am consuming now(grams) and where I would like to be and decrease my total by a certain amount each week. I also am in the process of making a plan to add strength training to my workouts. Ulitimate goal: 45 minutes of cardio 6 times per week and 45 minutes of strength training 3 times per week. I really like this 12 week goal idea. I've discovered something about myself recently, if I make goals that are too long term, I don't stick with them as well. I catch myself thinking things like "one dish of ice cream won't hurt in the long run". What I fail to realize is that a few of these thoughts during the week and I've gotten myself way off track! Thinking in shorter time spans I think will help me tremendously! |

I feel like each one of you has hit on an issue that at some point or another is something I deal with, not planning my meals in advance, skipping meals and then ending up starving at dinner time, not getting enough water, etc.... What I am trying to focus most on right now is adding back weight training to my exercise program. I've been doing pretty good as far as cardio goes, but I know that adding the weights will maximize my weight loss and tone my body. Cardio alone will never do that for me. I just HATE having sore muscles so I tend to keep putting the weights off for another day. I guess no time like the present though eh? |

I'm proud to say that after my three week vacation, I am getting my exercise schedule firmly back on track. I found a friend who wants to start going to the gym with me, and we have made plans to be there every weekday at 4:30 and also Saturday mornings. I find it's so much easier to get there when I know there is someone waiting for me to show up! I bought a HRM a while back and haven't had much opportunity to use it as of yet, so I'm really excited to see just how effective my workouts are. I'm also entering phase 2 of my plan, a little late yes, but better than never. My dr recommended staying away from refined sugar, flour, etc, as much as possible. I am also trying to avoid processed foods in general. Challenging to say the least when we are so programmed for convenience foods rather than healthy, more time consuming choices. I sometimes wish I lived back in the days when people had to grow and make their food from scratch.....you couldn't just run to the store and pick up something quick for dinner. It would make food choices so much simpler and healthier! |

To put it simply, my motivation is consistently feeling and seeing my clothes become looser. That tells me that my eating/exercise plan is paying off! I am trying to avoid weighing myself too often as the fluctuations tend to frustrate me. I have been out of town for the last three weeks and found that all the food I thought I missed during my 4 week cleanse, I didn't actually miss so much. In fact, eating some of it made me feel just plain nasty! So another motivation for me is just feeling good! If I eat well and exercise regularly, I feel great and it keeps me on the wagon, if I make a poor food choice, I feel awful and it's a reminder of why I am making better choices in the first place. Aside from those, I do have a long term reward in the planning stages to help even further. My husband and I are planning a vacation early next spring to an all inclusive resort in Mexico with friends. If the idea of wearing a fabulous swim suit on the beach isn't motivation enough, nothing is:) |

Wanted to say a quick hello....I am out of town and was expecting to be home Sunday. However, my best friends baby had other ideas and decided not to grace us with his presence until just this past Wednesday. I've been a little off track this past week. Being out of town makes it somewhat difficult to stick with my eating and exercise plan. Doing the best I can for now. As far as the topic this week, I have finally allowed myself to be ok with slipping up once in a while. It took me a while to get to this place but I've finally realized that I am not perfect and that if I expect myself to be, then when I slip the results tend to be disatrous! I'm trying to adopt the idea that everthing in moderation is ok. That way, nothing is off limits and I am less likely to binge if I know I can incorporate small amounts of everything I enjoy into my eating plan. Hope everyone is well and that you all enjoy the upcoming 4th of July(those in the U.S. at least) |

Yeah!!!!!! Purification is finally over:) And it is my pleasure to say that in just under a month I lost 17 lbs and several inches. My starting weight on May 19th was 224 lbs. My ending weight June 17th was 207. Now it's onto the next phase......a customized diet and exercise program tailored specifically to the needs of my body. If I have even half as much success with this portion of the program as the last, I will be more than thrilled. The dr told me I can expect around a 10 lb weight loss per month if followed closely. That would get me to my goal weight by the end of the year!!!!! I can hardly imagine but can't wait to see:)

I have to agree with being a "bored" eater. If I'm sitting around not dong much, I find myself eating whatever is around. If it's not around, I go looking for it! Up until this point in my life, it was almost a subconscious thing. I wouldn't realize just how much I was snacking while doing nothing, until after I had eaten so much. Then the guilt would hit. Now, if I find myself standing in my pantry looking for something to nibble on, I stop and ask myself if I truly am hungry, or just bored. And if I really am hungry, I try to make a better decision than grabbing the nearest box of crackers or package of cookies. As far as other emotions go, I eat if I am upset or stressed. You know, the whole "food is comfort" mentality. I am trying to get away from that behavior as well. I keep hearing people say you need to eat to live, not live to eat, and I am constantly trying to remind myself of that. This week will certainly be a test for me. I am going out of town for the week. Being away from home means eating out a lot. Add in that I am taking my kids to an amusement park, and I've got potential trouble. I only hope that I can make good choices this week!

vicki8seekers: I agree with staying busy! Yesterday I was craving ice-cream( my family had root beer floats!). Instead of having one, I went to the kitchen and cleaned out my pantry, fridge, and freezer. By the time I was done, I no longer wanted the ice cream:) For those occasions when activity doesn't curb the craving, I'll have just a small portion of whatever it is I want, or I will substitute a low-cal version. Sugar-free jello with cool whip is a great treat and under 50 calories. I'll also eat my treat slowly so I enjoy every last bite. From time to time I will enjoy a full portion of the "real thing", whatever that may be, and I just make sure to work it into my calorie allotment for the day. I've found in the past that if I tell myself I can't have something, I'll obsess about that item and usually end up eating more than I should've in the end! Everything in moderation seems to be the key..... |

Nothing has worked so well for me as this has and I can only hope the success continues beyond purification. I rarely have cravings for sweets anymore which is awesome:) Good luck to everyone else this week! |

Purification is obviously working for me! Since I've started the number on the scale has consistently gone down! It's been the hardest yet most rewarding thing I have ever done. I can't wait to see what happens at the end. The Dr. will provide me with a diet/exercise plan customized to my body. If that works as well as this has, I will reach my goal weight in no time at all |

Somewhere on this site I saw a thread that said something like "Interview the person below you". I like this approach of getting to know each other on a more personal level as opposed to a formal questionaire. The first person to posts asks a question that the next person to post has to answer. That person posts a new question and so on......I saw a variety of questions being asked and some were quite interesting. Just a thought. I also like the idea of a competition of some kind. And I do agree that it should focus more on consistency goals rather than xx amount of lbs or inches. I do think this would be a challenging thing to monitor though, as not everyones goal will be the same. For some, staying on track for a week is very tough while others can go weeks at a time with little effort. And everyones idea of what staying on track means differs. As for myself personally this week, I have done pretty well overall. I started week three of my purification program Sunday. I was sidelined a bit by a killer migraine Monday which kept me in bed pretty much all day! As a result, I didn't eat much and certainly did not exercise. Aside from that, the rest of the week has gone pretty much according to plan. I hope everyone can keep up the good work throughout the remainder of the week:) |

I think it's a personal preference. If you feel good and look good at 170, great! A lot depends on your build too. Are you broad and muscular or narrow and more petite? I'm 5'10" also and am aiming for around 150. That's where I've been most comfortable in the past. After having kids though, who even knows if that is possible:) |

Go to standardprocess.com and it explains the program. I know the Dr. that I went to says he has clients all over the country so he must be able to ship everything you need. The website for him is Burnfatutah.com. I will say it's the most difficult thing I have ever done! I'm not a big veggie lover and it relies heavily on fruit and veggies during the program. You also have a whole food shake 3x a day along with some other supplements. Take a look and let me know what you think. I'm halfway through and so far so good! I'm anxious to see what results the next two weeks will bring:) |

If you've read my previous posts, I'm currently doing a 4 week purification program. I'm on day 10 and it seems to be working:) I'm sure that most of the weight is water weight but hey, whose complaining? Some of it's gotta be fat right? I have 18 days left so we'll see how far I've come at the end!

Good lord I feel like I just read something about motivation that I would post!!! Except mines not a skinny little twig of a sister-in-law:) Mine is every friend I have on the planet being smaller than I am. Ditto for the husband being happy thing. Although my husband would never say out loud that I look anything less than beautiful, I can't help but to think inside he's wishing I looked a little more like, well, just a smaller version of the me I am now. Thanks for your inspiration. You are now officially on my list of motivators! |

If that was the case I would certainly be dead. As a doornail. I'm currently doing a 4 week purification program that consists of eating fruits and vegetables only plus a whole food protein shake 3x daily. Before anyone tells me I'm starving myself...hold the phone....my calorie intake is reasonable even by Calorie Count standards and I'm getting plenty of vitamins, minerals, protein, etc.... And considering I'm not a huge veggie lover(I eat what I can) my main food intake has been fruit, every kind there is, prepared every way possible. So no, I don't think you can over-eat fruit. Keep in mind also that this is only for 4 weeks, at that point I will be adding in whole grains, lean protein, dairy, etc. I wouldn't recommend eating only fruit any longer than that. Just one persons opinion:) |

Well I can tell you one really important reason for me right off the bat....I WILL NOT be fat in a bathing suit when I go to Mexico on vacation early next year! I looked over some pictures recently of my cruise a year ago...OMG!...not a pretty sight. I want to look good in a cute little two piece this time around. Secondly, I am starting week two of my purification process. So far, so good. About 6 lbs down, most of which I am sure is water weight, but hey, I'm not complaining. It's been hard for me, as I'm not a veggie lover by any means. So to do this for four weeks, not to mention the cost of the program, and then fall off the wagon?????Absolutely no way I'll let that happen! I wish everyone else luck this week:) |

| Weight Loss | Anyone here had a breast reduction? | May 23 2008 03:36 (UTC) |

I had mine September 2005. I went in a G cup, came out a C. Listen to what your Dr. recommends.....you don't want to risk popping stitches or any other unpleasant things! My only complaint now is that I'm having some muscle separation along my scar line. I don't know if this is a normal thing or not but it bothers me. I can't wear underwire bras because they dig into that "hole". I plan on seeing a plastic surgeon once I've lost all the weight I want to lose. One other thing, I don't know if anyone else has this same problem but my breasts are no longer full. Almost like they took too much from the top or not enough from the bottom. I'd be very specific with your Dr. as to how you would like to look post surgery. I love being smaller for sure, just wish I still had some of the fullness that I used to. Good luck! |

I was speaking just to cleanses/detoxes in general. I don't believe a fruit juice only detox would be either healthy or beneficial. I for one would certainly never try it. As to the "unnamed toxins", I was only hoping to provide the OP and others some specifics as to what our bodies are exposed to on a daily basis. Hopefully the information and opinions provided in this thread will give him/her(I'm assuming her based on stats) something, or more importantly, some healthier options to consider. |

Just a bit of information I cam across concerning toxins in our body. Found in the Third National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2005. "There are approximately 80,000 synthetic chemicals registered for use in the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that hundreds of these chemicals are present in our bodies. Research has shown that many of these chemicals can disrupt our immune, endocrine, nervous, and reproductive systems. The following are examples of external and internal toxins. External Toxins: air and water pollutants, caffeine, cigarette smoke, cosmetics, heavy metals, household cleaning products, pesticides and herbicides, pharmaceuticals, preservatives. Internal Toxins: ammonia, carbon dioxide, free radicals These toxins can lead to a wide range of conditions including: stuffy head, fatigue or difficulty sleeping, digestion and gastrointestinal problems, food cravings and weight gain, reduced mental clarity, low libido Given the above information, I am not opposed to a cleanse/detox/purification program so long as it is based on sound nutritional principles. I am currently doing a purification program that consists of eating organic fruits, vegetables, lentils, and a whole food protein shake w/ added flaxseed oil for Omega 3,6, and 9. My calorie intake is quite reasonable by Calorie Count standards. At the end of this purification, I will be adding in additional lean proteins and whole grains. Also, while I agree that our bodies are designed to rid themselves of toxins naturally, I do believe they can become overburdened. If anyone is interested in the program I am doing, please let me know and I would be glad to provide additional information. |

Original Post by supersized: I would absolutely LOVE some veggie recipes! I am not a huge veggie lover so this is going to be a big struggle for me. If I can find some tasty ways to prepare them, maybe it won't be so hard to stay on track. The plan I'm on says I can only use fresh herbs and spices to season, oh, and sea salt. I can also use high quality oils to saute, such as extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, etc. If it's easier than posting here, feel free to PM them to me:) As to the rewards question.....I like the pedicure idea. Heaven knows I could use one with summer right around the corner. Maybe I'll make that a two week reward. I'm hoping that by the end of my four week purification, there will be reason to buy myself a new outfit. Past that point I haven't given much thought to a reward system. Aside from my ultimate goal of buying a brand new wardrobe:p |

Gained another 2 lbs I did go to a Dr in town and am starting a weight loss program with them. It's based on the concept of healing the body from the inside out. I'm on a 4 week purification program which is basically a vegetarian diet plus some whole food supplements, designed to detox your body and make it more receptive to weight loss through proper diet and exercise. We'll see how it goes. |
