| Weight Gain | Gaining muscle weight, not fat... how? | Apr 16 2008 16:47 (UTC) |

Seems like your too active to gain any weight. I know you said that you eat less calories throughout the week so you can indulge on the weekend but even that isn't enought fat OR calories to worry about...lucky you! I would start by increasing your protein intake. That way you start a foundation for gaining lean muscle mass. With more muscle you should see a better tone and increased (LEAN) weight. I don't know how much you weight now, but there is a formula that you can use to see how much protein you need to take in daily. Take your weight divide by 2.2. Then take that number and multiply it by 0.8. If you insist on keeping your same workout routine, I would increase my protein by 15-20 more grams. I'm currently working to get my "old" body back before having my daughter. I was 5'3 at 130-135lbs and about 19-20% body fat. I looked and felt GREAT! I'm now at 160 and maybe 27% body fat. Since April 3 I have lost 5lb and counting! My diet isn't as strict as it was while I was training so my results are slow but coming along. I hope this information is helpful! |

I get the same way. I can do the elliptical machine for an hr before losing my wind. But running for some reason my breathing is not as controlled as I thought it would be. I think you still have to condition yourself for running and getting your breathing under control. I hope this helps |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Why do people think that holding their baby will make me want to keep the child I am carrying? | Apr 07 2008 20:17 (UTC) |

WOW! I can't say that I felt the same way when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter BUT if I were to have had a miscarriage then...I wouldn't have been sad. NOW, she is the most important thing that has happened to me and I didn't think that motherly instince would kick in bc I felt the same way you do. I DON'T hate children..I just didn't want any. I was 29 when I gave birth and I can tell you that support from family got me through. There is no way I could have raised a child alone with no family bc daycare IS crazy. I was seperated from my husband so I knew it was going to be me all by myself doing this. I can almost feel where you are coming from and I hope that you make the best decision for you. Good luck. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | the big after gain | Apr 07 2008 20:06 (UTC) |

hello!! My problem is just a little different. I was 140 when I got pregnant and got up to 162. I dropped right back down to 145 and BLEW back up to 160 before I could get my kid onto baby food. I think my BIG mistake was thinking since I was breastfeeding I could eat anything I wanted. I didnt eat too bad it was those ice coffees from Starbucks that did me in. All I can suggest is take a look at what you're eating. If its not different than before you have to remember that your a new mom and my not be as active as you once were. I didn't start to lose the weight until my daughter was two and I graduated college. I guess being a new mom and dealing with stress will help put on unwanted weight as well. But trust me,with a good diet and proper exercise it will come back off in no time! I just started to commit to exercise and watching what I eat and I've lost 2 pounds in a week. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Weight lifting/working out during pregnancy?! | Apr 07 2008 19:54 (UTC) |

I guess it would depend on if you were active before pregnancy. I weight trained daily before I got pregnant with my daughter and I continued until I wasn't comfortable anymore. So about my 8 mo mark I didn't do as much because I was carrying more weight and was starting to get tired..it didn't help that I was pregnant during summer months either. But I ran 3 miles daily and would lift weights 3-4 times a week. It helped with the birthing process and I went right back into shape after 6 weeks and that made a BIG difference to me because I had my daughter at 29. Good Luck with your pregnancy!! |

WOW!! I thought I was the only one to nurse until my daughter was almost two. I nursed her until she was about 19 mo. To be honest with you...I didn't notice my baby weight to start shedding until AFTER she turned two. Since you have begun to work out you are already on the right track. With dedication and hard work you will see the results in no time at all!! |

I can say from studying Biology and the experience from breastfeeding my own daughter until she was 19 months that you have to watch what you eat because it IS secreated through your breastmilk. I know most times eating onions and broccoli would give my daughter a REALLY bad tummy ache when she was less than 6 mo. So I couldn't just eat what I wanted. But I would say the acid from the fruit is definately increasing your baby's bowel movement. |

umm..let's see. I was a full-time student (pre-med) and working TWO part-time jobs. PLUS I was a new mommy. I drank coffee all day to help me stay up and study. Long story short, I gained all my pregnancy weight back (20+lbs)! It sucks bc I was 5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight (135 lbs)after the birth of my daughter. I guess breastfeeding didn't work that well after all!! LOL |
