Calorie Count Get off the pot! Jun 16 2008

I don't know but I'm kind of upset because I can see that it got a lot of replies, but I had to leave after 1 or 2 people replied and then I didn't get to read the rest because it got deleted.

I was the OP of that topic... =(

edit: and BTW, I was not advocating pot, and I did not say I even smoked it, I was just asking a question..

is it possible to tell her that you are on a diet? even if she still won't offer you anything vaguely healthy, it would explain the fact that you are hoarding celery sticks in your purse Innocent

Weight Loss Are all calories created equal? May 15 2008

one theory is...you don't drink enough water and so all the additional water from the fruit and celery helped you lose 3 pounds of water weight. Also, there's very little sodium in fruit and celery and so that would also contribute to losing water weight.

I don't think all calories are created equal in terms of NUTRITION..I mean twix really doesn't have all the vitamins and minerals etc that you need, and I don't think there's protein. But you might still be able to lose fat eating only candy if it's just a tiny bit of it.

Health & Support not hungry May 15 2008

Definitely try eating breakfast and see if that helps. I know that if I don't eat breakfast I could wait until dinner to eat..HOWEVER if I eat breakfast I am hungry by lunch. seems kind of the opposite of what you would expect, but I think it's the 'hunger signals being suppressed' thing.

maybe when you wake up just try having a piece of fruit. or a cup of milk. Well, whatever you like and see what happens.

If you've been eating a low amount of calories for some time then you're in a bad place right now.. maybe you are just used to that amount of calories and you need to shake it up by eating your old maintenance amount for a few days.

You didn't get overweight by having no appetite. so I don't really believe you just are a person with very little appetite. I suspect that when you cut your calories so drastically, you probably ignored the hunger signals (which is the point). But then you took it so far that your body is now gonna try to slow down to match your smaller intake... and still send you fewer discomfort signals.

Its not a scientific way of looking at it but that's what basically happens.

I think you should forget today..eat whatever you can but don't worry about it. However, tomorrow, try to have a more substantial breakfast and lunch to really boost up your calories. Its only hurting you to go so low.

ps. I look at the calorie content because many fats are good, like the ones in nuts and oil. cookies etc are obviously not so good.

it's still ignorant to single out walmart.

but then again, that's the new trend. "Hate walmart and you'll automatically be socially responsible!" Yay!

Calorie Count Inappropriate advertisements May 15 2008

I think most of the ads use technology that determines what you have clicked on in the past. Or they are categorized by subject.. anyway the point is I don't think CC actually chooses which specific ads go on there. Since this is a weight loss site, a lot of weight loss ads show up..whether or not they are actually healthy

Weight Loss Does not going to sleep make you burn more fat ??? or not turn food into fats!!?? May 15 2008

pretty bad theory... If you do not get a good night's sleep, you will actually burn LESS fat.. you would be much better off going to bed, getting a good night's sleep, and then taking a walk or a jog the next day.

Why only walmart and not all of the other companies (including working construction co's) in china?

edit; why did you change the first post.

Weight Loss Anyone afraid of gaining fat/weight back? May 15 2008

eat whichever one you enjoy more. Continue to weigh yourself every week. there is no reason to be "afraid" to gain the weight back... it would stink, but after all you know how to lose it by now! just give yourself a 4-5 lb range or so.. if you come out of that range, you know you need to eat a little more or a little less in the following week.

Weight Loss Sib is so fat and lazy--suggestions? May 14 2008

Original Post by pgeorgian:

the more you bug him, the more resistant he's going to be. all you can do is clean out the cupboards and make sure there is only good food; then at least he'll have to get off his butt and walk to get junk food!

if you fill the fridge and cupboards with good stuff (even stuff he doesn't like), he might complain, but he sure won't starve.

we really try to do that but it's not really possible to get 100% because it's a full house. I would really like some specific suggestions for things we can replace his usual snacks with. one of the problems is that we buy these premade types of foods that you just heat up and serve (rice, frozen morningstar, etc) and they would be really healthy except for the fact that he'll eat 1 or 2 boxes of them in an afternoon.

A lot of people are misinformed about HPV. Did you know that 75% of sexually active adults will come into contact with some type of genital HPV in their life?

that's irrelevant because the vaccine doesn't protect against all of them.

I've had my dell for about a year now and it's SO durable. It runs great (I have XP). I love it. I've had to use macs all year at school and they are SERIOUSLY not worth it... they crash/don't work just about the same as pcs, but they also have a lot of compatibility problems with popular programs. for general browsing/personal use/academic use...I'd say Dell.

i've had personal issues with hp (3 laptops in my family just stopped working or fell apart soon after purchase) so I won't buy from them anymore..but you will find people having a few bad experiences with every brand

it's definitely not worse, just different.

I hear you OP... and to others who are saying she should go to sleep, yes of course that may have been an option before but at this point it may not be. my advice would be to try to manage your time better NEXT time (thats my advice to myself, too!) and for now just try to get through the night as best you can. it's VERY hard to stay on a 1400 calorie budget when you are up for so long..believe me I know. Basically just decide which is more important right now, your school work or your diet. I would choose your school work. So eat and work, but try not to go crazy. It's good that you are spreading it out.

what gets me through all nighters is sugar free red bull (10 calories) sugar free hot choco (25 calories) popcorn mini bags (100 calories) and nuts (100 calories per portion). I also will have a real meal type food if I am getting physically hungry. But nothing too huge because that will surely put me to sleep. also keep some ice water nearby as that will help you stay awake. good luck and thank god the year is almost over. :)

ps. you have the 'strange amount of energy' because you've gotten over that weird 16 hour hump. DON'T lay down because it will be all over then!

your deficit should be around 500 for decent weight loss or 900 if you are in a hurry (you can have different deficits on different days depending on how you are feeling). however you do not want it over 1000, to be healthy.

also consider how overweight you are. if you are obese or very overweight, you can handle a larger deficit while still being healthy. However, if you are close to your goal weight then a 300 to 500 deficit might give you better results.

ps. ignore the bottom number..that number tells you what you have burned "so far" in the day while the top number tells you what you will burn total for that day. the only one you need to worry about is the total (top number).

Weight Loss Is it possible? May 10 2008

its impossible to tell, especially since it's different for every person. the best thing to do would be to eat healthier, exercise, and see what progress you can make in that time period..

if you don't lose 5, then maybe you'll lose 4, or 3, or 2, or 1, and wouldn't that be better than none at all?

because peta regularly spews out all sorts of rumors that they claim are "news" and half true reports that they claim are "facts". I'm pretty sick of it. if they really cared about animals, they would be doing things to help animals. Not get most of the general public to hate them. there does come a point where all publicity is NOT good publicity. their PR people must be the stupidest on the planet.

eat high calorie foods...get more calories for less volume. go to a search engine and search "healthy high calorie foods" and you will get a nice list. You can also look into supplemental shakes that body builders use to gain weight.

this is also a site with a much older (and more varied) user base than a lot of websites... and its just my experience that people who are not used to using computers and the internet (a lot of middle aged and older people) do treat the internet differently than the younger generation. maybe more seriously? Anyway they do get more offended by it. Possibly because it feels so intimate. But then when you learn more about being online, you realize that it's really a huge public place.

so someone who doesn't use the internet much is more likely to be scared off by arguments and such. I don't know about a recent SPIKE in these sorts of threads.. however its the end of the school/working year for a lot of people and that is pretty stressful. Undecided
