Foods PMS and Water Weight Jan 23 2009

OH MY GOD I hate water retention around my period. I get really bad sugar and salt cravings (and I'm talking like I start crying if I don't eat the stuff). I just feel really bloated but I remind myself that it's just water weight.

My advice? Try and cut down on the salt (but for me, that doesn't work), maybe drink a little less water (that actually does help for me), and keep working out because it helps regulate your hormones. Beyond that...if you have any cravings, indulge them, and know that you'll still probably lose weight. I put on between 2-5 pounds in the weekish before my period and lose it all within a week of my period starting.

Basically, it's nothing to worry about  :]

Foods I have decided most of the food in the grocery store is not food. Jan 19 2009

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really have a problem buying stuff from the rest of the grocery store. I mean, it's all about in moderation. I eat Cheez-its and Wheat Thins, chips and salsa, Chips Ahoy, Corn Flakes, rice krispie treats, and other stuff from the middle aisles, and I eat Stouffers and some Lean Cuisine, ice cream, sausage, waffles, and other things like that from the frozen section.

I'm not necessarily on a diet, nor do I need to be, I think as a college student it's nearly impossible, but that's beside the point. However, I think it's all about moderation. Yeah, I try and hit the gym at least 2-3 days a week, where I run 2-3 miles and bike 7-8 miles, but there are weeks where I don't go at all and eat a ton (finals week, anybody?). But under normal circumstancs, if I want ice cream, I'll eat ice cream, and it's not the sissy low fat stuff either, I eat a scoop or two and I'm done. I don't down the whole half gallon or pint or whatever. If I want a cheeseburger...I'm going to eat a cheeseburger.

Like I said, maybe it's just me, but I get irritated when people say that you shouldn't eat this or that because it has too much salt or too much sugar or too much whatever. Yeah, I know they're just looking out for "my health" or whatever, but I personally feel like they're projecting their own food insecurities and dietary restrictions on me. I find that when I eat all low fat stuff (ie for a sandwich: low fat whole grain bread, low fat mayo, fat free cheese, lean meat, etc.) there is absolutely no taste to my food, and I feel bloated and flat out disgusting. When I go back to eating things that I normally do, my body goes back to normal and I feel good again.

Again, maybe it's just me, but those are my feelings. Don't hate me too much Smile

Weight Gain "You're So Skinny... Jun 01 2008

I'm 5'1 and weigh about 110 because I've always been really active (I'm a soccer player and I run 3-5 days a week), and I get the "you're too skinny" comments all the time. Yet, when I put on about 5 pounds during my freshman year, I had girls on my floor telling me my thighs were starting to look fat. I sense a double standard...
