I'm waiting on my xrays right now. I injured my feet on a treadmill back in September. I knew it was PF, and I did all the stretches and took care of my feet as best I could. The morning pain isn't too bad, but my feet hurt all the time now. It's very discouraging. Dr has me on 800mg ibuprofen twice a day and stretches, plus he said to roll a golf ball around with my feet while I sit at the computer or watch tv. I don't want the xrays to have bad news, but I would like to know that something can take this pain away.

Weight Loss Let say - you were stupid enough to eat a whole pizza Aug 29 2008

At least you didn't do it in ignorance. The days of eating a whole pizza and not knowing how bad for you it was are over. Next time, if you can't put it away, give it away! It's a great way to meet neighbors or friends.

Last night I made baked ziti for dinner. My recipe makes two 2 qt dishes and I KNEW I wouldn't be able to stay away from leftovers in the fridge. I gave a whole dish to my neighbor. I'm soooo glad that is GONE!

You are not the only person who has ever done that. Don't be too hard on yourself!!

I have been wearing baggy clothes for years. T shirts that are big so that they cover my hips-I hate hate my hips and butt. I wore something the day before yesterday that FIT me. And people noticed! And people complimented me! So I am celebrating that for the first time in I-can't-remember-when I wore something that fit me and didn't feel like a blimp!

You need protein! It's the main thing that will keep you feeling full longer. When you put foods that are high in bad carbs into your body they burn off very fast because they are turned into sugar quickly by your body. Protein takes much longer to break down and doesn't convert into sugar right away.

I know ALL about the headaches, mood swings, sweating, shaking. Stay far away from high sugar foods. Good luck!

Weight Loss How much fiber do you consume? How can I add fiber, without the calories?? Jul 23 2008

I try to get everything with higher fiber content. I eat fiber one cereal (it really does taste good) and fiber one bars, flax seed whole or ground, high fiber oatmeal, double fiber bread or english muffins. Not all in one day and some things affect me in different ways (curse you fiber one bars!). I do like flax seed for all it's health benefits, but I find that I can't handle more than a tablespoon a day and I usually have to grind it up or I get stomach aches. But I'm just weird like that! Tongue out

cheesecake is my favorite soooo, I would skip everything and just eat a piece of cheesecake! Not the smartest decision but I don't go out often at all and I've never been to the cheesecake factory. I absolutely can't stand when I try to get a low calorie dinner when I eat out and end up hating it, then not saving up for dessert. I would just eat the cheesecake and not regret a thing! Have fun!!!

Weight Loss I am under 1200 Calories a day...Please help Jul 18 2008

I understand, I really do. I seemingly do this weight loss stuff backwards. I started out low carb and when I started logging my calories I was shocked to see I was getting around 800 to 1000 a day. I upped my calories and lost a little and then got stuck. I realized when I did my analysis that I was only getting around 1100 a day. So I increased again. I am now averaging 1400 calories and I have to increase AGAIN to see where it gets me. It takes longer, but it is working. I just have the hardest time "doing what I know" factually, instead of cutting calories like we were always told in the past.

Hi everyone that replied,

Thanks so much for the encouraging words.  I just wanted to let you know I think the reason my doctor was telling me that, and I think I should say that he wasn't telling me to do the 800-1000 calorie diet, he was just suggesting it.  I believe he was telling me to try that instead of doing something like the lap band.  I read somewhere that you can do your own lap band without going through the surgery by reducing your calorie intake drastically, but as a diabetic I don't think that would be good, but he told me that people that have done the lap band and were diabetic are no longer diabetic.  There may be something in that, but right now I think I will stick to a 1200 calorie diet for now.

Again thanks again  all of you and I am adding you all to my buddies list.

VickyKiss

I had watched a show (60 minutes?) that reported on this. Every person that was diabetic that had lap band or the other one (what's it called?) immediately was NOT diabetic anymore. In other countries they have approved this surgery for diabetics that are not obese, but in this country surgery is only approved of for the severely obese. That is not to say that everyone should run out and have surgery. I believe if your health, your life, is in jeopardy then you should be able to take that risk. But if you have the time do it the slow and sure way. Lose a little at a time and educate yourself fully on nutrition and health along the way.

I sat in a carl's jr once, having the one thing on the menu that I will even eat from there, and watched customers come in and order. While they waited for their food they took the time to read the HUGE poster on the wall of the calorie content of the menu items. Almost every single person who read the menu gasped in horror at the calorie content. I was sort of shocked at their reactions. I assumed people knew what they were eating, but apparently the majority is uneducated and unaware of calorie content. I'm all for posting calories if it helps ANYONE make a better decision.

Weight Loss STARVATION MODE - immediately on first day!! Jul 10 2008

Your body does not go into starvation mode, or, as you put it STARVATION MODE in one day. As clairelaine says, it takes weeks for your metabolism to alter that significantly. The term gets thrown around way too often around here, in my opinion.

Google the keyes starvation study, which is the study that proved the concept. The people studied were young men between the ages of 22 and 33, and the semi-starvation diet that they were given for 12 weeks was 1800 calories a day. Along with a loss of 25% of body weight, volunteers experienced many psychiatric symptoms, including complete preocupation with food and feelings of worthlessness and distorted body image. Sound like a modern dieter to anybody else around here?

I thought 1500 calories was a safe minimum?  I've been hovering between 1400 and 1600 over the past couple of weeks, and I'm still losing weight steadily.  According to CC, I'd have to eat 2700 to maintain, and with exercise that goes up to 2900.  I hope that isn't unsafe? (1300-1500 calorie deficit)

Assuming that 1500 is a safe minimum, what happens when you reach a plateau? You can't reduce your calories any further. You can't exercise to burn more and creating an even larger deficit. You are better off starting at the minimum deficit-like 500 cals-and then increasing that as you stop losing.

I can't wait for the day I can schedule a tummy tuck. My whole life I have either had low self esteem, or I've been pregnant and (or) fat. I am 5 ft 2 and I have had four kids born over 10 pounds each. All 4 were c sections. My stomach was sagging before I lost anything and I am still at least 50 lbs over weight. Like I said...I can't wait!!!

ONE home smoked ribs-the best I have ever had- one hot dog no bun, a ton of chips and dip, tequila, beer. I just realized I didn't have any dessert and maybe I didn't do too bad in the food either since we went to the beach and played for hours. Then my sister's house is at the top of this huge hill and at the bottom is a pool. So we walked and swam again for a couple more hours and then walked back up the hill. My workouts have really been helping because everyone was huffing and puffing up the hill and I felt like skipping! It was great!

It should be 0.6 to 0.9 grams per pound, or 98 to 150 grams per day depending on your workout schedule.

I think when you "ask Mary" and find it under other questions listed it says 0.6 grams per pound of your goal weight, not your current weight. But it's just something I came across.

Weight Loss Unsupportive boyfriend Jul 01 2008

Original Post by cavaliers:

I WAS with a boyfriend who was like this - I was only about 5 lbs overweight at the time and he told me he'd love me more with every pound I lost.  Looking back I see now that this was not love at all.  He was 10 years older than me and I thought the sun rose and set around him.  This kind of thing, in MY opinion, is borderline verbally abusive.  I still have flashes of memory that just cut to the bone when I think of some of the things he said to me - and this is about 15 years later.

Personally, if anyone I was with now, since I'm older and wiser, ever said anything to me about my weight he would be gone.  This is a personal decision.  Does he think you don't see and feel how you look?  Does he think this makes you feel better about yourself?  Does he think this motivates you?  Does he think this makes you feel like being naked in front of him?

I can totally understand people being SUPPORTIVE and ENCOURAGING, all my friends and family are very happy, for my sake, that I'm trying to lose weight.  But there is a vast difference.

Gosh, this kind of thing just gets me so mad.

I'm with you. Tell him he isn't allowed to have an opinion about YOUR weight or what goes into YOUR mouth, last warning. Then don't put up with it! Are you some kind of inferior person? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Weight Loss What do you tell a friend...... Jun 30 2008

I have a friend that is also going with lapband surgery. I showed her this sight and explained everything and she was completely unresponsive to it. She explained that she has tried so many things to lose weight that she only wants the surgery. And worse than that, her insurance is paying for it. I mean that is good, but there wasn't any kind of evaluation by her primary doctor or anything. Her insurance is paying 80% and the doctor who is doing the surgery is not charging her for the other 20%! So she looks at it like a bonus. I worry about what happens after the surgery. I don't think I would be able to just do what it takes after surgery if I couldn't do it before surgery, you know?

Original Post by missymandy:

Wow. it is pretty confusing.

So, what i dont understand in CC is the Burn Meter's Total Estimate. It says mine is 2050cal. Does that mean i'm burning that much doing nth or am i EXPECTED to burn that much in a day?

And also, my daily goal eat meter says 1700cal. I have to eat that much?? Or can i cut it down to 1500cal a day, (assuming if 2050 is the minimum calories i burned a day), so that the deficit is 550?

Am i on the right track or am i just way off?

You're on the right track, except instead of cutting your food down to 1500 cals a day, just go burn 200 calories a day. That gives your daily burn a total of 2250, and you eat 1700, that gives you a deficit of 550. Or burn 300 calories, whatever, you get the picture. Exercise is much better for you than restricting your calories.

I'm in that boat too. I either exercise really well, and then splurge on my food (like today-we got a sonic for the first time in the area and I just had to have a pineapple shake!) or I don't exercise and then don't eat hardly anything. Like 900 calories. And I teeter totter back and forth so that I really only lose around 2 lbs a month now. The most consistent I ever was was when I did the same exercise routine for 30 days and I wasn't eating enough at all to lose anything anyway. I can say that in the last 3 months, I have learned that the entire thing is a learning process :-D  Just when you think you get it, you have to adjust something LOL Also, just when you think it's hopeless, you slip those tight shorts on and they aren't so darned tight anymore. That is really cool.
