| Foods | Too much protein? | Dec 13 2008 01:55 (UTC) |

| thats alot... I'm studying to become a dietician and I can tell you that 1 g per kg is ALL YOU NEED. extra protein impairs calcium absorption BIG TIME so you could be eating a tonne of calcium but you can still develop a deficiency.. protein also can lead to a condition called homocysteine which puts you at 3 times the risk for a heart attack!! so maybe try to reduce that a bit. | |||

| The only thing you'll want to check on is the sodium levels.. If I were you, Id rinse off all of the veggies from the can. Even better is frozen veg. Dont let ppl tell you they arent as healthy.. theyre just as healthy as fresh, no preservatives and actually sometimes theyre MORE healthy depending on the season because theyre flash frozen so they dont lose any vitamins.. whereas some fresh veggies that have been shipped from another country have spent days sitting and slowly losing vitamins | |||

| Gi jane is right. Technically speaking, a chemical polysaccaride called "Dextrin" is produced when you heat/ or add acid to a starch. Dextrins are just sweeter tasting then starches, so the actual chemical composition changes when you heat/cook a starch | |||
| Foods | Foods with Omega 3's? | Nov 21 2008 01:46 (UTC) |

| giasbash6260 I am finishing my degree to become a dietician and although there are a tonne of reasons why you may have dry skin, if it is related to omega 3s and you are eating alot of them you also should be making sure you get enough omega 6s. There is a ratio of omega 3 to 6 that is 1 part omega 3 for every 5-10 parts omega 6 (so eg. if you are eating .5 g of omega 3, you need up to 5 g of omega 6). So make sure you have enough omega 6s as well or you are setting yourself up for serious imbalance effects. | |||

| Be very careful about eating something high in a particular vitamin every day 3 times a day . Like clairelaine said, you are getting tonnes of vit a , but dont think that over doing vitamins are harmless.. Vit A has a UL (upper tolerable level) at which if you go over it , you may be at risk for overnutrition consequences and health problems. I am studying to become a dietician so I have seen first hand how easy it is to OD particularly on vit A just from having a cup and a half of carrots approximately.. This isnt a big deal in the bigger picture bc you maybe wouldnt do that everyday, but if you are eating this food everyday like you say you are, then you may see some long term side effects.. I would just be careful. Moderation is key!! even of healthy things! | |||
| Foods | Fancy dinner help | Jun 23 2008 02:13 (UTC) |

| thanks everyone for the reccos. Unfortunetly, when I got there the menu was different (guess it wasnt up to date online since most of these fancy restaurants serve whatever looks good in the market that day).. I ended up with a chicken dish which I took the skin off of and only ate a few bites of the favabean /bacon salad thing (I didnt eat the bacon) because it was done in butter. I also had oysters since theyre pretty low cal. I had a few bites of dessert and called it a night. No biggie, dont feel guilty. Thanks again! | |||
