hey hey everyone! been a while since i last posted! it's been really really crazy at work. anyway, i also went on a holiday and god knows what that did to my weight! water and fat all mixed together, i gained SIX lbs. in five days, haha. glad to see me back to normal now though. i've lost track of my last weigh in but i am happy to report that i am at my lowest now... i started at 196 lbs last april 4 and i am now 182 lbs.... woohoo!!! feels great, it really really does... but i need to update my wardrobe. i cant wear most of my clothes anymore because they're all too big (i have lost a total of 28 lbs since i last updated my wardrobe) so that sucks... but since i still need to lose 50lbs. more, i'm not really into buying new clothes... guess it's time to go see my neighborhood altrerer :)

hi everyone! apologies for having been gone... work overtook everything, haha.. anyway, might not be here for the weigh in tomorrow so im doing the weigh in one day early.

i signed up for CClast week (april 4) at 195 lbs and today i'm ta-dah.... 189 lbs.! so yay for me... of course this is what i call suspicious weight because at 6 lbs. in one week.. it just might be water... still it feels great.

oh and i had a job interview yesterday for a new law firm and guess what, i had absolutely nothing to wear because all my clothes are now too big... first time i cheered not having anything to wear EVER... haha cheers all around :)

anyway, so there... for my first week it's 6 (dubious) lbs... but hopefully i can reach 180 come may 11 (date of a friend's wedding where i am a *gasp!* a bridesmaid...) and whatever i lose between then and the 24th is just icing on the cake :)

Maybe it's just me but I have the hardest time wanting to exercise knowing I'm going to sweat my hair out and have to spend 30-40 minutes repairing my style. I am African American and wear a short style so I can't just wash and go.

I tried waking up very early morning working out, running out of time and had to go to my office with a hat on my head. I can't do this anymore.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've relized I've been recently short changing myself by working out but not to hard to ruin my hair. I know it's shallow and I need to re-evaluate my prorities but I can't stop thinking about this. Anyone else have this concern.

What can I do? Is there a really good head band I can get or should I just point a high speed fan in my face?Cry

gosh.. i am sooooo hearing you.... i have the same dillemma everyday when i go to the gym. thank god my work doesnt have a set worktime or else that'll be the end of my gym membership... i spend 40-60 minutes on the treadmill at the gym and spend the next 2 hours showering and fixing my hair... which requires a dryer, a straightening iron and a curling iron... go figure :D

good for you. Its hard to lose weight, but there is noting like medical complications to motivate one. My husband is the one who is diabetic, recently diagnosed. He had been overweight most of his life and convinced he just had to look at food to gain weight. He was amazed that following CC's recommendations of keeping to certain calorie limits worked. He is sticking to it reaonably well, from losing weight to plateauing when under stress (1 lb a month rather than 1 to 2lb's a week). He says the main motivation (he is 60) is that he cannot stand the idea of the complications like loosing eyesight. It will take him one to two years to be"normal" but he IS getting there, and the doctor is perfectly pleased that he is loosing the weight. (I remember him saying that she looked a little stressed when she gave him the bad news- later talking to her he found she has had people very unwilling to accept their condition.) The amazing thing is that he is doing it without increased exercisee. Once school is over he is hoping to be able to incorporate more exercises that will hold over into the school year.

one thing I recommend you have if you do not have one is to get an electronic food scale- ones that measure in grams( CC's recipes, etc will always work with grams of food better than with cups,oz,etc). the electronic ones with tara function( you can zero between adding different weights- great for tracking food added to a plate, salad) and an automatic zeroing. The tara function helps with cutting down on adding and subtracting (mistakes creep in so easily that way). My husband found by keeping close track with CC he could add his favourite end of the day before bedtime snack like ice cream- calculated to the nearest gram- and still lose weight.

thanks nsgardener... i have been actually a good girl the past couple of weeks, since having given up most of my sugar... i now source it from fruits and carrots, can you believe it? i still eat rice (the philippines is a rice-eating country) every now and then but having cut if off breakfast and lunch has helped my sugar intake tremendously... i checked my fasting level yesterday and it was 109, today (after eating rice last night) it was 119 so yay.... i'm really motivated by the results :)

wickedsis- Well at least you were able to stay within your calorie limit, and every pound counts, even if it is just a half!!!! Keep it up!!!

this is the kind of positive thinking i should have!!! and it usually comes right after i have had proper coffee.... note to self: never EVER go to the gym and weigh myself before starbucks... don't worry, i get the brewed less the frills... so no calories there... might as well get a caffeine shot straight to the brain, hehehe

I have the same problem as you guys....

Question though... How do you control your binges before they start? Do you have the self control to stop once you get a little into the binge?

i try to leave the house whenever i feel a full on binge coming, :D anythig and everything that would distract me from the binge really... i use the same technique to quit smoking although i still have a puff every now and again. i guess its the same with bingeing... i still have that double choco chip cookie every now and again but i try to distract myselffrom eating everything all at once :)

i am also guilty of bingeing from time to time... my last binge included a bowl of oily hongkong noodles with every bit of sinful fatty beef and MSG.... followed by about half a bag of chips! anyway, im still recovering from that binge, i have gone back to my daily routine of oatmeal breakfast, salad lunch and a light dinner and limited physical activity (light office work... got an activity restriction from my doctor) i've just recently gone back to my original weight (right before the binge-WEEK) and it took me also a week to drop the weight :)

hi there! new here, and just saying hi :)

hi there! i was also diagnosed insulin resistant about two years ago. i'm taking metformin to control my sugar. when i was first diagnosed, i used metformin as an excuse to still eat everything i wanted, thinking hey, the meds would digest my sugar for me. of course i knew this was wrong, but i still didnt take my sugar intake seriously. at the time, i was also 230 lbs., hypertensive and lived a very stressful life. i was a walking time bomb, at 25 years old.

i lost some weight when i started with metformin (about 20 lbs.), but again stopped losing weight afterwards. i still didnt watch what i ate, drank, smoked and kept the very streesful lifestyle i had. it all caught up with me when two months ago i suffered a mild stroke. the uncontrolled diabetes definitely contriuted to it.

to date, i have lost an additional 20 lbs. (i am no 190 lbs. from the whopping 230 lbs. two years ago). goal weight is 127 lbs. by my birthday next year (july 25th 2009). it's ambitious i know but i need to do it,because if i don't i stand to lose more than just a few pounds.

i have limited my intake of sugar and carbs (which pains me to no end, having a sweet tooth), and once i get the go signal from my docs, i am going back to my daily gym routine, which i have started pre-stroke. hopefully, this will help me control the diabetes :)

hi all! i used to be just like your mums. i was 230 lbs. about two years ago, and even after i hit that weight, i didn't pay attention. i was forever annoyed at my own mum for nagging me to lose some weight. even after every one of my siblings lost weight, i still refused to listen to any of them about my weight. then i was diagnosed with type ii. you know how all that goes... and i was 25 when they diagnosed me. still it didn't stop the bingeing and the chocolate raids. i was in law school during that time and was going through a very rough time in my life, having broken up with someone i thought was my world. anyway, to cut the long story short, i was in depression at that time and it seems, the eating buoyed my spirits up. it helped me not deal with the issues. still working through those issues until now, even after losing 45lbs. :)

oh, and my story doesn't end there. i had a stroke about two months ago. a stroke at 27... im just thankful no permanent damage resulted from the stroke and i am almost back to my normal routine, but it did serve as a wake up call. i knew i didnt want to die just because i couldnt stop reaching for those double fudge choco-chip cookies... so i stopped... an uphill battle with the constant obsession with what i feed myself but i find it worthwhile knowing that i am at least trying to live longer :)

BUT.... having said that, one question remains in my head that makes me lose sleep at night: how sure am i the diet cola in those fountains they have at fast food chains (yes, i still go to them but only to get my uber large diet cola fix) is really DIET?? hmmmm....
