Weight Loss Looking for some advice! :-) Oct 15 2008

I find it hard to believe that someone as active as you are would have the same caloric needs as someone like me. I definitely think that 1300 is not enough for your needs. With that being said, what kind of workouts are you doing? Cardio is great for burning calories. If you're not getting enough calories, though, your metabolism slows up (starvation mode). If you're doing weights, you'll get the tone you want and burn fat. Just remember, muscle weighs more than fat. So, are you unhappy with what the scale says or are you unhappy with your body? Were you active when you were 117lbs? There's a lot of factors in this equation. You may want to talk to different physical trainers. I have NEVER heard of the same plan for everyone. That just doesn't sound right.

I agree with nbkelly. You're probably gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat. Try taking your measurements instead of depending on the scale. Also, make sure you're getting enough calories. Your metabolism slows down if you're not getting enough nutrients. Get enough sleep, too. Your body produces a lot of healthy chemicals when you're sleeping. Try not to stress out about it, either. Stress is not good for weight loss. It sounds like you're on the right track, though. Don't worry about the scale.

Gosh, I remember going through some of the same things when I was about your age. It's amazing how a few years will change your perspective on everything you feel right now. I'm sure that doesn't help you feel any better, so here's my thought on the matter:

As far as you know, you were both drunk. People do and say crazy things when they're wasted. If you're having a hard time remembering his reaction to what you said, chances are, he's having a hard time remembering what you said. Also, guys don't dwell on things like we do. He might not be acting any different than he used to, but possibly picking up on your uneasiness. Me, personally, I'd act real casual. Talk to him like nothing happened, and invite him to hang out. If you really want to downplay it, go with something like "Hey, I'm going for coffee after work. Want to come along?" Once you two are alone to talk, you can bring it up if you feel you need to. I'd probably say, "OMG! I can't believe how much I drank the other night. I was probably ridiculous." That way, I'd be opening up the dialogue without admitting anything and acting like nothing happened. How he responds is how I'd gauge the situation. That's me, though. You'll have to figure out what works best for you and what you're comfortable with. If you're not getting the answers you need, pray (or meditate) on it.

Pregnancy & Parenting Did you have a "period" after you were pregnant? Apr 27 2008

finnsal- if you just got off the pill, your period could be totally out of whack. It could be lighter or heavier, whether or not you're pregnant. I wish you all the best in TTC. Having a child is the most wonderful, rewarding experience I've ever been thru. It's also the most tiring- LOL! Enjoy the time you have to yourselves, in the meantime. They are few and far between after a baby.
When you do find out you're pregnant, keep this in mind. Try to appreciate all of the inconveniences of being pregnant. Most people miss being pregnant after they've delivered. I know I did.

Foods Slim Fast... Good or Evil? Apr 21 2008

I'd say it depends on the alternative.
For me, Slim-Fast is very good. It's quick, and satisfies my sweet tooth.
It's also good if the alternative is a Starbucks Frap.
If the alternative is fresh fruit and oats, I'd say Slim-Fast is evil.
Yum to fruit and oats!

Eh, I think everyone has their own way of doing things and losing weight. I've tried the "buckle down, and have some willpower" thing, and it didn't work for me. I'd lose a lot of weight, then eventually gain it all back. The truth: I LOVE food! You just have to find what works for you. Here's what's working for me.
I have a Slim-Fast shake for breakfast bc I'm not much of a morning person. It satisfies my sweet tooth bc it's chocolate flavored. When I really have a sweet tooth, I have a Slim-Fast snack instead of a candy bar. I drink lots of water, but I don't limit myself to it. I drink coffee with sugar free Vanilla cream, ice tea with Splenda, various diet sodas, and Crystal Light. For lunch, sometimes I'll go with another Slim-Fast shake. Other days, I'll have soup or salad or a sandwich. Sometimes, I have all of the above. Snacking helps keep my appetite in control. In fact, I just had some nonfat yogurt. I don't feel like I'm dieting, so it's so much easier for me to stick to. I don't feel guilty about the occasional splurge, either. We had a birthday to attend this weekend. I ate cake and ice cream. I ate chicken and dumplings. I ate fried chicken. I ate everything in moderation, but I also try to be a bit active. I try to go for a walk a few times a week. Since February (when I started weighing myself), I've lost 15 pounds and a pant size. I'm only losing 5 pounds a month, but it's weight that's staying off. I weigh less now than before I got pregnant with my son (who just turned 9 months). I guess what I'm saying is, figure out what you love. Don't go without, but substitute it. Eat smaller portions, but not to where you feel hungry. If worse comes to worst, fill up on fruits and veggies. You can't go wrong.

I'm not sure what TTC #1 means, but I was unknowingly pregnant for almost 2 months. A trip to my in-laws prompted me to take a pregnancy test. I didn't really think I was pregnant, but I was quite "carsick" every time we were in the car. I've always had motion sickness, so I didn't think anything of it. I just thought the drive was really bad this time.
In any case, I've had a very short, light period for years. This was true a month before my trip. too. When I discovered I was pregnant, I thought maybe just a few weeks. When I went into my first prenatal visit, I was almost done with my first trimester. Boy, was I shocked!
I asked my OB about it, and he said it's quite normal for some women to spot or bleed in the first month. He explained that it was most likely "leftover" after the cervix was sealed.
In a way, I was relieved that my weight gain wasn't random. *LOL*

Young Calorie Counters I'm confused about the Caloric intake thing! Apr 04 2008

You should consume approximately 1550 calories for healthy weight loss. By consuming less than 1200 calories, you're actually starving your body, which slows your metabolism. If you're working out, you should adjust that change on your profile. It may change what you should consume.
