Weight Loss healthy waist measurements Jul 24 2008

Thanks everybody! I didn't really expect anyone to chime in.

honestly, I think when you put a general number on something, it kind of voids the whole idea. that said, I knew 35" couldn't possibly be the ideal waist measurement for a healthy woman.

well, i've got to go check out some links now.

so, r u saying "Splenda" isn't as bad for you? what sweetner is Stevia? is that at the grocery store or do you have to go to a all natural foods store?

stevia is disgusting. I suppose if you're not used to the great taste of sweetness, and have total amnesia on what sweet is suppose to be, stevia is great.

here's the thing (in my unprofessional opinion), everything can kill you. are you buying only all organic everything? no? then you'll be dead soon. same goes for splenda.

I won't give up splenda. i'm healthier (and lighter) than if I was using sugar.

my mom has been using aspartame since i was a baby, probably before, and she's still healthy. I used to read the back of the sweet & low package and say "mom, this causes cancer in rats" and she would sweetly tell me " honey, i'm not a rat". although I still don't think her argument stands, her health does.

If you have scoliosis, the last thing you need is yoga - it will only exerbate the problem of improper mobility and stability in your joints.

Find a good physical theraphist with experience in corrective training.

well, first by mild scoliosis, I mean it wasn't even known that I had it until last year (I'm 34)--very mild.

second, if all i can do is find a physical therapist, than I have no choice but to do nothing. I have NO money, there is no way I can afford a physical therapist, unless he takes food stamps.

that said, am I doomed to a completely stationary life (give or take 10-15 minutes of activity) until I can get a better paying job and the cost of living has gone way down?

ech. i hate summer. everyone's hot and angry. i don't have a/c and i have a home baking company so it's like 500 degrees in my apartment twice a week. too hot to walk or run outside, or do the elliptical inside, no gym membership. the water coming out of the tap has the texture of gravy. ech.

but if you ask me about winter, i'm sure i've got plenty to complain about there too.

I binge, or at least eat very unhealthily (?) for days (sometimes weeks), if the number on the scale goes up in the slightest. and i stopped losing weight. it took my therapist to say "Stay off the scale!!!"

oh. huh. yeah, that makes sense for me. once I feel my clothes getting roomier I'll weigh myself again, but I don't even want to know it exist until then.

I don't know if it's true, really true. but I bought the negative calorie diet workbook YEARS ago, which sucked and was an awful cabbage soup rip off...

BUT it did have a list of "negative calorie" fruit, vegetables and meats (really just a long list of seafood). I figure these foods are a better snacks and ingredients than the crap I usually eat, so why not.

the lists are really long, so if you really want to know, let me know, and I'll post them.

we always joked that our "first dance" song would be "poke". remember that song?

before i found kenya, i contacted a couple of boxer rescue agencies by email; they never got back to me. i think they're so selective, if you can't go there in person, they don't even consider you (and there's nothing of that description in my area).

not that i mind; i couldn't be happier with my dog. i'm just saying that breed-specific rescues might be a better idea in theory than in practice.

I guess it depends on where you live and which shelter you contact. I live in Chicago and I have friends that got both of their awesome boxers at a breed specific shelter.

I don't know of a lot of shelters, regular or breed specific, willing to adopt a dog to you if you don't visit him first. That just seems like a bad idea.

I am all about boxers, they are the sweetest, but my husband won't let us get a "big dog", so, I've been looking for a dog or puppy with exactly your specifications, plus good with small kids, and with the tiny bit of research--the most recommended breeds were the squash faced ones, pugs, boston terriers, french bulldogs, english bulldogs and someone told me japanese chins are supposed to be good too.

of course, I highly recommend NOT going to a breeder or pet shops. if it's a pet shop, they will, hands down, get their dogs from puppy mills. Not all breeders are bad, but why not save hundreds of dollars and save a homeless dog? If you feel like you need a full breed you can find specific shelters that do specific breeds all over the U.S. (petfinder.com can direct you to a location), but don't pass up a mutt because it's a mutt, they can be awesome too.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! what is there to think about? Obama got all the necessary delegates to win the nomination! concede already!

but i guess if she concedes she can't tear the Democratic party apart even further.

"Let's vote McCain!" being yelled by Hillary supporters should have been enough for her to think about how she should be trying to heal the party.

selfish, selfish

Weight Loss Has anyone tried hypnosis? Jun 02 2008

just an update. I had my session today. Probably a third of the session was an explanation and overview.

the actual hypnosis definitely took me deeper than my self hypnosis cds, but it honestly wasn't that much different. The session was personalized for my specific problems, and the isolated, quiet location was nice, but I don't think I would pay hundreds of dollars for it.

I still have another session or two to go, and I did really like it, but my suggestion is that if you're thinking about it but it seems too expensive, get some self-hypnosis cds, they're not that different.

i may change my mind though, we're going to try some regression next time.

So the DNC finally figures out a fair compromise to dole out the delegates in MI and FL. and the Clinton supporters start chanting "Let's go McCain!". Really?

1. what did they expect the DNC to do with 2 states that violated rules? give everything to Clinton because she's whining the most?

2.sooo, instead of supporting the candidate that most reflects Clinton's views and ideals, they're going with the candidate that most reflects George W's views and ideals? why? they're brats that didn't get their way? or, they were never really democrats to begin with?

My ears are open to anyone who can explain this rationale  in a sensible and logical manner.

I'm always polite. even when I don't want to be. I tell them I can't talk because I left my 3 year old alone upstairs (I live in a 3 flat), but that doesn't seem to matter, and they always continue talking, and I continue being polite until they leave.

I grew up in a very strict christian household. I've shaken off every thing strict about it, but i still hold some core beliefs. If heaven truly had only a few thousand spaces, they'd be full by now.

Everyone has a right to their own beliefs, but don't vomit your nonsense all over me, I just had this cleaned.

Please, people found out about Obama because of his win streak and the media. It's called strategy.

Did I even say anything about voters in the caucus states? She's fooling me? I never mentioned popular vote. You're clearly biased against Clinton and taking it out on me for even daring to defend her. But on that subject, if you can find a definitive way of calculating exactly how many people voted for Obama and how many for Clinton in every caucus, then there's the objection scuppered. Clearly, that's not possible, so you ranting about how they "don't count" is irrelevant. They do count, obviously, in delegate count. Her argument is popular vote. As the pundits say, the fact that she CAN move the goal posts further and further back is evidence that this race was not over.

You couldn't be more right, I AM very biased against Clinton. I've seen her lie, "misspeak", pander, mud sling, and blame, blame, blame. I do sincerely apologize for taking it out on you, I'm very passionate about this whole mess.

Her "popular vote" argument is irrelevant, however, if you can't count the voters in caucus states. That's like saying "I've sold 11 cars, even though that guy sold 10 warehouses filled with cars, I'm obviously a better salesman."

and his winning streak was a cause, not effect, of campaigning. campaigning is a strategy.

And let's not kid ourselves, Florida knew who he was, but Florida is dominated by demographics that typically vote for Clinton. That's like saying we should forget all the states before Obama won the however-many primaries in a row he won after Super Tuesday, because they didn't know him as well as they do now. pfft
You're are right, we shouldn't be kidding ourselves. How do you think those states (that Obama won) found out about him? He was allowed to campaign for himself. ALL the states were typically Clinton because nobody had even heard of Barack Obama before he started campaigning.
and what about the VOTERS in the caucus states, Hillary wants to pretend they don't exist because they don't benefit her. Do you realize she's not counting those votes in the "I've got the most votes" argument? She's fooling you and everyone else that can't see through her pandering and lying.
She had even said that she left her name on the Michigan ballot because she new Michigan didn't matter, so she didn't think it would matter if she kept her name on the ballot.
pfft indeed.
I don't know why everything is in a quote box. my apologies.

How 'bout this business with Hillary wanting to seat every single delagate from Michigan and Florida? She doesn't want Obama to have any delegates from Michigan, because he took his name off the ballot, out of courtesy to the DNC (there are so many things wrong with her logic I don't even know where to start). and Florida had pretty much no idea who he was when they voted (against party rules). How about those party rules that everyone agreed to? they shouldn't matter anymore? now that she's behind.

Most of us are wearing our bras incorrectly and are actually in the wrong size. The ladies at Victorias and Fredricks really dont have a clue!

This is why I refuse to shop for ANYthing at Victoria's Secret. They undersize so the the girls with the little ones are excited that they wear a bigger bra size. It's just so insane that I feel good and bad about my boobs at the same time.

sorry, this is a grudge I've been carrying since high school, when I had to wear the big, ugly grandma bras and all the cool girls in the locker room were wearing lacey red numbers.

im_a, I don't think you can compare hypnosis to anything subliminal. It's like comparing apples to something that doesn't work. My mom bought a small truckload of subliminal tapes in the 80's, never did anything, but make me hate the sound of nature and classical music.

I think about this more often than I like to admit.

at a 38 FF, I've always wondered how much i would weigh with "normal" boobs. I think that since you've actually weighed them, split the difference in half and take out an extra 7 lbs. of your total weight, and use that to get to your goal weight. I guess you'd have to keep weighing them to update your "real", half-boobless weight. Weight and bmi charts don't account for a 14 lb pair, 7 lb, maybe.

I usually end up wearing ill fitting bras because it's cheaper and easier. I started wearing a bra to bed because the ladies are just unwieldy.

I thought maybe a plus size shop like Layne Bryant or Avenue would be the answer, but no. I thought it was shocking I couldn't find a bra number under 40 and yet no cups over DD. wha?

Hey, if it's free... I say try it! Just be sure to know what they plan to say to you...

I tried the self hypnosis tapes a few years ago... and YES it worked, only TOO well.

I found myself getting nauseous whenever I even thought of food and actually throwing up after eating certain things. My husband at the time thought I was "doing the bullimia thing again" but I wasn't doing it on purpose. My Mom finally asked me what was on the tapes I was listening to, I didn't know because I always fell asleep.

So, I listened to one while staying awake and it was saying things like "picture eating your favorite food in front of a mirror, enjoy the taste, now look in the mirror... can you see the maggots moving on the food? smell the food rotting? feel the maggots in your mouth?" etc

I stopped listening and the nausea went away.

Guess I'm just too susceptible to suggestion.

wow, that is so metal.

I've got some self hypnosis cds too, and they seemed to work nicely (not at all disgusting, very positive), when I remember them. I'm just really curious about one on one hypnosis.

Vegetarian What do vegetarians eat? May 21 2008

I won't get into the stuff i make from scratch, and i'm not actually a vegetarian because i cook with chicken or beef broth sometimes for flavor, and also i would rather have a low fat meat option if i'm out, rather than say, onion rings or french fries if that's the only meatless thing on the menu.

but... the majority of my (and my son's) lunches consist of almost anything by morningstar farms. I don't like to do a lot of cooking at lunchtime, i'm usually too busy. I like to top their basil tomato patties with some fat free ricotta, very nice. my son, of course, loves the chik'n nuggets and corndogs (i love them too).

so my recommendation, if you hate cooking, is to go to the freezer section and experiment with fake meat. morningstar farms is my favorite. just make sure to read the label, they're not all low fat & calories.

if you decide to fully embrace being a vegetarian, you should start enjoying cooking, because there are some awesome recipes out there, and you really don't want to rely too heavily on meat substitutes.

It just seemed like if you were going to "own" your weight loss, you should at least be honest about how much you weigh.

maybe that's why she's having trouble keeping it off. she wasn't honest with herself or the public to begin with.
