Great job on giving up smoking! Just remind yourself of your willpower when things get difficult. As for your question... I don't follow a diet I changed my life style. I know it sounds corny but it is the truth. I started out by cleaning out my cupboards and getting rid off all foods I knew where bad for me. I made a shoppinglist and really read labels in the store and only bought healthy food. Like I said before I love food and I need to eat things I like to be able to keep making good choices. I used the food log on here to log everything and looked at the analysis every day to see if I was getting a good balance. I started trying some new foods that I had read about here on CC. Like lentils, quina and pumpkin and found that they weren't half bad. I don't keep any unhealthy food in the house so I am not tempted. I try to get fruit and vegetables that I really like and snack on those. If I felt like getting a bag of M&Ms I would look up the calories and often that was enough to cure me of my craving. I drink a lot of water and herbal tea, it helps with feeling full and with cravings. I call it peeing away the poundsWink. I try to think about what I am going to eat long before I eat it. I just noticed that if I am feeling hungry and then have to make a decision about food I would make a bad decision. So my breakfast is always the same (high fiber cereal with soy milk) while I am eating that I am thinking about lunch. Often it is something simple like Heinz baked beans or oatmeal with raisins. While I am eating lunch I am planning dinner. I try to log before or during eating so I know how many calories I am consuming and also how many I have left for the rest of the day. I now know the calorie contend of most of my usual food by hart but I still like to log. I also love keeping the weight log and look at the graph when I feel like eating junk. I just tell myself that I don't want to see it go up again. Now I did fall of the wagon a few times.  A bad time for me was from Christmas to my b-day (end of January) but I noticed how much worse I feel when I eat bad, I get headaches, I am moody and tired and just not happy. This keeps making me jump back on the wagon because I now know how much better I feel, physical and emotional, when I eat right.

Sorry if this is a little long and rambeling. Hope it helps! Feel free to ask me anything, happy to help.

Just wanted to let you know it is do-able. I started at 108 kilos and I am down to almost 82. It does take time and motivation. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts or easy solutions. What works for me is weighing ALL my food on my digital food scale and only eating food I really like. I for instance never eat salad because I hate it and would be miserable if I had to eat it as part of my new life style. I never drink anything with calories in it. I tried different kinds of exercise to see what I like best and what I can stick with. Also when you fall off the wagon (and it WILL happen) find the courage to hop back on. Use this site to learn about nutrition and to help you stay motivated. Feel free to send me a message if you are feeling down or just want to talk to someone who understands.

Best of luck!

Make sure you are drinking enough. When I started exercising I was disappointed with the results until I realized I was not losing as much as I had hoped because I didn't drink enough. You should drink 2.5 liter a day plus at least 0.5 liter for every hour you exercise. I now drink about 4 liter of water/herbal tea a day and lose about a kilo a week. Also upping your calories really works. I know it sounds counter productive but I added a banana with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to my daily intake and it sped up my weightloss.

Hope this helps, don't give up!

Not a crap fest today, just normal except for the chocolate cravings. I was weak and gave in a little but will still have a 500 cal. deficit so not too bad.

I shovelled snow for an hour today and my arms are sore. I am pretty sure I burned some calories and strengthened muscles so I am counting it as exercise.

Tanya I haven't forgotten about those recipes but I am too tired right now. I'll try tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well even if you are not checking in.(subtle aren't I)

Tanya, I am a nanny for a busy family in Italy and the parents can be thoughtless. I usually just suck it up because it does pay well but sometimes I get a little ticked off.

Sorry to hear you aren't sleeping well. I hope the sleep aid will work and that the naturopath can help. Have your tried professional footmassages?(don't know the English word) I had bad headaches as a teenager and really got a lot of relief from it. The massage therapist also helped people with sleep disorders. I was sorry when I reached the maximum allowed visits by my insurance because I loved going.

I'll send you some recipes tomorrow because I really need to get some sleep.

I am going to share the crap fest that was my Monday.

  1. I weighed the same this morning as I did last week. After sticking to my calories, exercising 5 hours and drinking plenty of water.
  2. It snowed during the night and school closed so I had the girls home all day but still had to do all my other work AND bake cookies, built a snowman and play games etc.
  3. Ate some of the cookies I baked but they were very small.
  4. Because I worked late so much last week I was suppose to be off at 2pm today but the parents didn't come home until 6 pm. All I got was a "sorry work is very busy at the moment" and " maybe Friday we'll be early"
  5. Got my period!

Number 5 explains my horrible mood and hopefully the no weight loss.

Sure hope you all had a better Monday!

Hello All,

My weekend is almost over but it has been a good one. The weather here is gorgeous at the moment. A little bit cold but very bright and sunny. I went for a nice long walk and added 2 extra hills. My butt and thighs are going to be very sore but I loved it. There were lots of other people enjoying the nice weather, most were running or cycling and they all looked super fit and thin. It got me down a little but then I told myself to get over it, I was out there getting fit just like them.

TanyaI don't have rain gear but I would go out if the rain wasn't too bad. I hope you had a nice walk. Do you walk in your neighborhood or do you go to a park or something?

2babeThe increase in calories has helped a little. It makes me feel less deprived and it allows me to eat something when I am craving something sweet. I have added some extra fruit, crackers and cheese to my days and still usually have a deficit of 500.

KC Feel your pain. Stay with us!

Tanya Glad your brother is home safe, I know how much stress these things are. Sorry to hear you got vomited on but it can be worse. I once had a kid vomit in my face and I didn't close my mouth fast enough...

Nilly I love that your back with us! Did you get the interview? I am sorry that your family didn't notice your weight loss more but you are so right when you said you did it for you not them. I hope you had fun in Disneyland, I'm sure your kids had a great time.

My weight this week has been up and down and it is driving me CRAZY. I don't know what is going on. I eat right and exercise and yet the numbers aren't really dropping. I hope the weather stays nice so I can go walking this weekend, even if I don't lose weight it still relaxes me.

Very slow week, where is everybody? Perhaps life is getting in the way...

My day has been good, I managed to work in a 30 minute bike ride this morning. That is the first time since starting I had some free time during the day. I felt pretty good about myself and it motivated me to stay away from the cookies etc. because 30 minutes mostly uphill is hard work and I did not want to ruin that. I had to work late and am really tired so goodnight.

I had a look at my calendar today and to my horror there are only 31 days left before I go home for Christmas. I am nowhere near as slim or toned as I had hoped to be to face so many of my friends. Some I am going to the spa with so they will see me NAKED. It is giving me a kick in the behind to get exercising and to be more careful with what I eat. I started weighing my food again and I just did 45 minutes of cardio. My weight this morning was up ( I think the cookies finally settled on my thighs, I swear my jeans were tighter today)

2babe I think "no self control" is my middle name. I do much better with the individual packs as well but they don't really sell them here. I totally get the cravings you had and hope you are feeling okay.

TanyaGreat job on the pound! I hope you had a nice weekend as well. I still have 2 huge blisters on my feet from my walks but it was worth it because the weather was so nice. Did you get to go bike riding on the weekend?

My weight this morning was 187.7 so hardly a loss from last week but still a loss and not a gain. I think I will try upping my calories a little this week to see if it helps with my sugar cravings. I am going to try to eat between 1400 and 1600 and see what happens.

Tanya, Your story made me laugh! I don't have any children myself but I work with them 60 hours a week and I have done the hospital thing so it sounded very familiar.

Sorry to hear about your arthritis I guess that make being overweight even harder. I have seen that episode with Miranda eating out of the trash. Made me laugh and cringe at the same time. I too can confess to that one.

I am hoping that tomorrows weigh in won't be too bad. I did go for another walk today bringing my exercise to 5 hours this week. I will try and do better next week.

I got a box of holiday cookies in the mail yesterday. I planned to give them away on Monday but last night those evil cookies kept calling me. Saying it was Friday night and I had been good all week and I could just eat 2. By 11 pm that big box of cookies was empty. I don't know why I am so weak! I felt all gross after eating them and mad at myself because I just undid a weeks worth of hard work. Luckily when I woke up the morning the sun was shining and I went for a 90 min. walk after I did my shopping. I hope the weather will be nice tomorrow as well so I can go for a longer walk.

I hope everyone else is doing better!

Welcome back Misty! I am happy to hear from you again. Have fun at Disneyland. Sorry to hear about your job, I hope you'll find something new soon.

2babe Good job on tossing the muffins.  Don't buy Cheetos and such it just sets you up for failure.! I hope you are sticking to your plan of low cal. dinners. I have the same problem as you with drinking all that water, but I just chalk it up as exercise because I have to go down a flight of stairs to reach the bathroom. Every little bit helps, right? So far my skin is not saggy but I still have 30 pounds to go. I just decided that I rather have saggy skin than rolls of fat. My brother has already suggested plastic surgery for any lose skin. This is the same brother who told me I was now almost as thin as his wife, who is 7 months PREGNANT! He is lucky I love him.

TanyaYou are so good getting in all that exercise. I hope the stress at work will decrease soon. What are cheesies?

Rach Hope you had a good night sleep.

My day was okay, it is still raining and that makes me want to bake or at least have hot chocolate with whipped cream. I made a low cal treat, decaf coffee with foamed soymilk. It tastes almost like whipped cream and only 69 cals.

2babe I'm glad you joined us. I think it is amazing how fast you shed the 49.5 pounds. Took you 2 months less then me. I hope you threw out the muffins as planned.

Tanya Isn't strange how the body works? Sometimes you think you will see a big drop but you don't and when you don't except it , There it is. I guess it all balances out in the end. I hope you had a nice time in NM and got to enjoy the weather, scenery and food but like you said vacation time is over and I am glad that you are getting back on track and taking us along for the ride.

KCSorry to hear you have been so sick. I hope that is all behind you now. Which countries did you visit? Was it for work or leisure? Any really good souvenirs and/or food?  I for one was really happy with the results of the US election. I think the world sighed with relief but I feel kinda sorry for Barak Obama because he will be handed a large pile of excrement and has to figure out a way to clean it up.

RachSo sorry to hear about all the stuff that is going on in your life. I hope things will improve soon. You should be really proud that you are sticking with the life-style change because it is so easy to give up when you are stressed. So good for you! I hope you will be joining me in ONEderland next week, it is a nice place to be.

Confession time, I am went online to write to you to postpone my workout. I just worked 12 hours and now I have that internal battle goin on.  "I'm tired, I worked hard today, I can skip my workout because I have been good with the food" "You CANNOT skip the workout you need it to lose weight and tone your flabby skin and get in shape and any way you promised the CC girls you would do it. SO GO DO IT!"  I guess I can't postpone any longer...

I am excited about our fresh start and really look forward to continue to lose weight with your support.

My weight this week is 188 which makes me very happy because that puts me at a 50 pounds loss since I started in March. Yeah me! I have been looking forward to this big number but the last few weeks have been up and down so it kept being just out of reach but this morning I finally reached it.

I posted this week goals so I have to stick to them. I already started on my water for today and I plan to exercise tomorrow night because I have to work late today.

Have a great Monday!

Hi everyone,

I'm back (insert creepy music).

Long story short, my bank put a block on my credit card because they suspected fraud, didn't notify me. I pay my phone and Internet bill automatically with the cc. Phone company didn't notify me that they payment hadn't gone through and just turned off my line. After several weeks, much frustration and thinking many bad words I finally got everything working again as of Monday. I was away on vacation for a week but I am really motivated to keep losing weight and would love to keep the group going. I'll even volunteer to be the leader if that helps. If nobody objects I'll start a Fresh thread on Monday and we can regroup and get going again.

KCI went to Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur for 10 days. The highlights for me where the Towers (try to get tickets online or get there very early as the line is ridiculous) and the night market. The night market is great for picking up knock offs. What ever you want you can get it there. Bags, clothes and DVDs, be prepared to haggle as they start of high. I love to haggle, I throw in the angry walk away at the end and then they chase you with the lowest price. Also try the food on the market, same as everywhere, if it is busy it will probably be good. I still dream about the chicken satay I ate at the night market. If you have time you might like this horrible mall they have, it is built in ancient Egyptian style and just made us laugh because of the hideousness of it all. Check out a McDonald's as they have very different things on the menu. And be prepared for rice with breakfast. Okay, now I want to go too!

Last week was a good one, I am back to 191 so I lost all 5 pounds that I gained in a week. Lots of it was water weight I am sure but still nice to be rid of it.

Hi Ladies,

It is Sunday night here and I have had a great weekend. On Saturday I went on a long hike. I walked 5 1/2 hours and burned 2901 calories! It was nice to just have quiet me time. The weather is beautiful here and everywhere you look you see fall colors. I was cursing myself between hour 3 and 4 of the hike. I was tired and my legs hurt but I had to keep going in order to get home. I think I will go again next weekend. Another nice thing about the hike was the amount of food I could eat. I ate 2000 calories that day and I should still lose weight. Today I went on a 1 hour bike ride, not so much for the exercise but more because the weather was still nice and I was bored. While biking I encountered a bike race, all these very fit men in very tight clothes passed me and I enjoyed the view. Unfortunately they were going much faster so I lost sight of them fairly quickly. I was planning on doing some strengthtraining tonight but I think I will postpone it until tomorrow.  Food wise I have been good as well. I made veggieburgers tonight and they were delicious. I made enough so I can have them again tomorrow.

MistyIt sounds like writing everything down is working for you. I think it is so important on this journey to find what works for you and stick with it. Whether it is logging or exercise or even food choices. I love to log on CC but I have easy access to a computer during the day so I can log while eating.  As to your question about weigh-in and such... I am happy to report on Monday, it gives me extra motivation during the weekend to stay good. I think the group has changed a little the last few weeks and now we have less group goals but more support for personal goals. I think most of the group has adopted your goal of 10 pounds for the next session. I certainly hope to lose that and more but I like setting myself up for success so I am going with 10 pounds.  I think any one of us can issue a challenge or throw a goal in the group so we need less of a leader and more of a thread starter. (just my opinion) How was the house viewing?

Rach Sorry to hear your brother is not ready to make a real positive change. I hope it will happen soon.  It sounds as if you really like your job and I am sure you are good at it. I hope you had a nice hike with your family. I like how your husband is working with you to lose weight.

Tanya I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful time in Seattle and NM. When you come back next week you will be well rested and ready to jump back on the wagon.

2babe I think you are so lucky to have 2 sisters doing this with you. I have 1 sister and she is my best friend but she has never had a weight problem so she doesn't really understand. I did motivate her to go back to her gym. She couldn't stand the thought of me being fitter than her. I felt kind a flattered but that day is still so far off...

KC I have been to Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia. What kind of trip are you planning? Did you get in your bike rides this weekend? I love that you put in the mental goal as well. We discussed in the beginning how we are our own harshest critics and how that negative voice in our head can get very loud and nasty. It has helped to give myself non-food rewards like books and, even though we are taught not to, to praise myself for the things I am doing right.

Well this has turned in to another one of my long posts. Sorry about that, I can get carried away. I look forward to seeing everyones post tomorrow.

I am doing pretty good food wise but the exercise tonight sucked. I don't know why but just couldn't get my mojo going. I did my upper body strength training but called it quits after that. I guess 25 min. is better than nothing. The weather has been really nice and I wish I had time during the day to go exercise but by the time I am done with work it is getting dark and the Italians drive like madmen so don't want to be out exercising. I am still planning and even looking forward to my hike this weekend.

Nilly You should feel good about yourself! I also looked at your pictures and you were always pretty but now you are becoming healthy and pretty. You are doing a great thing not just for yourself but for your family as well.

Tanya I hope you are feeling better! Perhaps you can go on a bike ride this weekend to work of some of those extra calories. I am assuming that you haven't done any strength training?  Thanks for sharing about your brother. I was very embarrassed and sad at the time, it also made the paper etc., but now I am just happy he is doing so well.

It is a slow week so far. I am fearful we lost some ladies and the few that are left are not posting much. I do hope every one is doing well and staying on track.

Rach Sorry to hear about your brother. I can imagine that it is very stressful for you right now. Glad that you are sticking with us. My oldest brother had a drug problem and was sent to jail for a year for theft. It was the best thing that ever happened to him. He got out and straitened out his life. I hope your brother will also "see the light".

NillyYou are one hot mama in that black dress! I think it is smart that you have a personal goal of 10 pounds so you know you are setting your self up for success not failure.  I like how you are incorporating exercise in your life. I am going to follow your example. I don't have a TV so can't do the commercial thing but I will start doing it while waiting for the peas to cook or the washing machine to stop spinning etc.

I forgot to mention that while I was in Milan I almost got crushed in a stampede of teenage girls. Turns out the Jonas Brothers where there being interviewed by MTV. I impressed myself by recognizing them. I was thinking of you ,Rach and Nilly, when I saw them.

I just finished my workout, I could only manage half with the weights and did the rest without. My arms are pretty sore but I am extra motivated to lose my turkey flaps because I bought a nice shirt in Milan this weekend but it is a little bit too tight in the arms. I am hoping that by Christmas it will fit perfectly. I have been very good food wise the last 2 days. I have eaten 1300 cals, getting my fruits and veggies and plenty of water. I am planning another hike this weekend, thinking about a 6 hour one but not sure if I am ready. Perhaps I'll let the weather decide.

As for the stairs challenge if I ever used an elevator I would join you but I only use stairs. I have nothing useful to add to the alcohol discusion as I never drink. My vice is sugar.

KCThanks for taking the lead, it is much appreciated. I would be happy to help out and start the new week whenever necessary. How are you doing with not drinking during the week? Is it hard for you? I remember when I first gave up my after dinner treats it felt weird not having something sweet with my tea. It took a while to get used to.

Nilly Congrats on fitting into your skirt! I am impressed with your 101 pounds goal. Just imagine how amazing you'll feel.

Tanya A loss isa loss but I understand the disappointment. You want to see your hard work pay off.  Maybe we can be strength training buddies? I just started tonight with my weights while doing taobo. It was HARD but now I feel the burn in my arms and I like it.

Erin You are doing great! Good job fitting into the jeans. It sounds as if you are extra motivated for the next 12 weeks.

MattyI hope you enjoyed the Chinese food. Just drink lots of water and pee the pounds away.Wink How are you liking taking the stairs at work?

2babeGlad you checked in! The group seems to be a little bit short this week. Lets hope it picks up and the others come back.  Luckily you have a sister you can borrow clothes from and get some support. I heard strength training tones your body so it might not be lighter but it will be thinner. Maybe that could work for you? Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for being so supportive and nice about my little health scare. It was great I had a place to share.

My weight this morning was 196 so up 5 pounds from last week. Not happy about that but not stressing it too much either. I ate a lot of bad food last week, didn't drink enough water and did not exercise. I am hoping some of it is water weight that will come off easily. I will just be super good this week and get it down as much as possible. I am motivated again and ready to lose it. Picking up the friend analogy, I feel as if I spent a few days with an old friend and realised we don't really like each other anymore and there was a good reason we stopped hanging out. After eating badly for just a week I have had headaches, less energy and that negative voice in my head got much louder. I like my life and myself a lot better when I am working towards being healthy.

I had to work late tonight so I didn't have time to exercise but WILL do so tomorrow. I bought some weights that I am scared/excited to try out.

I am off to bed,

Marlies

Thanks KC for starting the thread. I am keeping this short as I am feeling kind a down. I had a really bad 2 days food wise. The stress for Friday's results have kicked in big time throw in my mother visiting (she doesn't know about the biopsy) and I just snapped food wise. Won't list all the crap I have been eating but there was nothing healthy in the bunch. I have decided to try and control it for the rest of the week and on Monday (if I get the all clear Friday) I will sent out a search party for the wagon and jump back on.

I will share my tips etc. next week because it just feels wrong talking about motivation and doing well at this point in time.

I really hope ever one else is doing better!
