Weight Loss why insist on making it complicated? Sep 16 2008

I'm jumping in late- I agree with pgeorgian- I think deep down we know what to do- eat less. And I think the comment is saying- instead of stressing about 'what will I eat'  when you go out- get what you want and eat half or share with someone.

Also, another one that you see- "It is hard b/c the kids don't want to eat healthy" I know kids can be trying and very stubborn, but as you make your life change shouldn't you do that for the kids too- that way they aren't here in 20 years trying to figure out how to eliminate fried foods from dinner?

We all have "issues" with food or we wouldn't be here, but often, we know our own answers, it is a matter of doing it!! :)

I tend to have problems on the weekends too-

When you say you tend to gravitate towards more unhealthy choices because that is what the kids want- maybe make that a once/twice a month thing so that they are not getting into bad habits, or make one night the fun food night, but still choose to make things more healthy- thinner crust pizza with veggies as toppings and a side salad... make fruit into a dessert, things of that nature...

Motivation First PT session got me feeling down :( Sep 12 2008
16:38 (UTC)

I really believe that when you go in for your "free" sessions they try to make you feel awful and give an extremly high bf #-  I went through it, and although I am not thin and in shape as I should be (an I know it), but I am not obese and they tried pulling that on me- trying to convince me to sign up.... For a physiology class that I was in at the time, we got to go to the lab and have our bf measured on a scan, it came out to 15% less than what the trainer told me- still too high, but you know.... and tried to feed me a lot of other BS (like that I at 5'6 should weigh closer to 115 lbs, which trust me, not good for me)

Remember- the purpose of the free sessions is for them to sell it to you so that you will keep coming back and pay them- so take advantage and learn some things, but don't let it get you down on yourself with the obesity marks....

Weight Loss Trying to lose weight fast - help! Sep 04 2008
22:45 (UTC)

The think I think most of us struggle with is that it took time to put on the weight (even if it seemed like overnight) so it will take time to take it off.

You need to feel good in your mind first in order to look good. Don't crash diet, it will only make you feel icky, sluggish (and might cause you to binge resulting in weight gain).....

Eat healthy- tons of fruit and veggies- your skin will love you for it and nourish your skin on the outside as well. Start doing some cardio to get the blood pumping, it will help you get a great glow and do some weights- you may not be able to see big results, but the way you think of yourself and carry yourself will change and that is what will make the big difference and that is when you start looking great!

Good luck

hmm- i hear you can safely have coffee...

My mom drank coffee with me and I didn't sleep through the night, but that was b/c of drinking it while breastfeeding and not what she drank during the pregnancy...

since you only get three days a week- do some multi task weight stuff- like lunge and then curl... Womenshealthmag.com has some workout tips for things like that.

I usually do 30 min of cardio, some ab work and then wieghts and then stretching- 1hr 15- 1hr 30

I think telling someone you can work harder is the ultimate esteem killer (btw is this my bf?? Sealed) I know he means well, but not everybody has the same intrensic motivation and it can be discouraging to hear- eh, you aren't going to the gym today? You didn't go yesterday.... I don't know how to explain it...

Lately it has been comments about the beach volleyball players' physiques- as if he is trying to tell me that I could look like that if I tried- it does the opposite, makes me want cake (not that bad, but you know... )- He means well by trying to get me motivated... BUT.....

I find positive feedback to work better- wow- looking good- even if it is something like your skin is starting to look great- must be the healthy eating- or hey- you are getting pretty strong on the bike rides or something or when she does workout or if it is food related - point out differences (physical or mental- "boy you seem more confident") and to me THAT get me to want to do even more.... make sense or too much babble?

I stood on it, go my weight reg'd and then grabbed a 10 lbs handweight... the little computer guy said "I detect you are holding an extra item... I detect the item to weigh 10.0 lbs", so i think it works pretty well

I am glad someone can understand what I am trying to say! I am horrible at explaining myself- sometimes I don't even know where I am going. He goes to the gym with me when schedules allow and we do active stuff... he can be encouraging and points out imaginary muscle definition when he knows I am working hard- he has a hard time understanding the girl vs. boy weightloss thing and calories consumed... he doesn't quite grasp that 1000 c. burrito is just about my whole day while that is only 1/3 of his... he just has boy mentalitly and metabolism- they will never fully understand :)! I mean, he has to work on keeping weight on- booger....

Olivia- congrats on the action :) and of course all the other fun stuff you did. What kind of scale did you get? I recently got a new one since my other weighed diff. weights every time you stepped on and off... it is such a relief to have something that gives you a real number....

Thanks for the gift ideas!

Chris- I think I am behind on this- but it is a struggle w/ SO's... I'm probably the pain for mine :) He is really healthy and works out a lot... Although I eat healthy for the most part, I struggle with portion sizes (not that I don't know them, but don't always abide by them)- because he works out and he is a boy- he pretty much has to eat all day long and eats a TON- he doesn't quite understand my struggle to eat the same foods, but not lose weight- he thinks it is lame when I measure stuff out... This rant probably didn't make sense... my point was that working with other people can be hard! Maybe small steps at a time?

EDIT: Its Friday and my eyes are crossed :) I think what I wanted to say  was that he does so well himself and doesn't quite get why anyone would struggle... just do it. Easy as that....

And great job with your own self control!!!

hey! how is everybody? Doing pretty well.. only made it to the gym before work once in two weeks :( It felt good, but I have been having troubles sleeping at night, so it makes it super hard to get up in the morning. I have tomorrow off- my goal is to get up at least 30 minutes earlier than I would if I was going to work to hit the gym.

I have three very awesome people at work that wrote letters of recommendation for me- I would like to thank them with a card and something else, but I am not sure what that something else could be... any ideas?

Lauren- it is great that you love learning- it really will pay off, but I don't have to tell you that! Good job on eating well- being alone is the hardest time for me to keep on track.

EDIT- you should smile and say hello when you go today... it'll be a warm upKiss

I do love the sunshine, but we desp. need some rain.. The grass is always greener.... well, it truly is in Florida :)

Y- nice on that lunchtime workout! I wish we had something at work, but I don't know how well I would use that either- 30 min lunch break, that would be hard for me to do personally....

Tell your hubby it is for the good of the family :) That sounds like fun though! I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever have kids

O- I know you know... and after getting yourself to a habit of having the amount that you have, it feels weird upping it (I would imagine)... I think it would be hard if I had to up calories even though I haven't really been on target... but you can do it!! :)

Chris- I think 4 miles walking to and fro work is awesome! I miss the days of my college campus where I would walk at least 5 miles a day just to get to classes and back home- the weight I gained when I got a desk job shows that I don't do that anymore... I live too far from work, but I would if I could :)

And I am still feeling good today :) I actually woke up this morning and went for a quick workout before work- 1 mile jog on the mill and 20 min ab work... I am hoping to get a bike ride in after work.... Its just a great feeling- instead of wanting this weightloss to happen, I can actually invision it- i like this new high :) I think I may become addicted :)

Olivia- keep working out, just snack a little more or add something to your snacks... or add a nice healthy smoothie to your day... ?

Y- I try to weigh myself the same day of the week once a week in the am when I am still to groggy to read the numbers :). Weight can fluctuate hour by hour, I tend to weigh more when I am really sleepy? Also it all depends on what you did or didn't eat, how much water is in your system bla bla so give yourself a little fudge room for variables- if you don't- you might go crazy :)

I think  part of not getting enough cals is that you don't work out with as much umph as you would if you had more cals- even if it feels like it b/c you don't have the energy- not to say you aren't working hard, but... does that make sense?

Running in the rain is fun! (Not the pourning kind though, like Olivia said).

Raising your cal. intake is a reward for all that hard working out you have been doing! YEA!! :)

Lauren- I overheard some girls having a discussion about the sunshine state- one said that we (Colorado) are one of the sunniest states and the other argued that we are not b/c Floriday is the sunshine state and she was sticking to it :) I think they say CO has somewhere like 359 days of sunshine a year... It was amusing

we could use some rain!

I'm not a big fan of meal replacement bars for the most part... I think that they are handy for when you are in a crunch and you might not be able to get a good sit down lunch or for a snack, but for me, I enjoy taking a time out and relaxing over a meal. Like Olivia said though, if it works for you and you like it- go for it!

On another note- I've had my ups and downs with this getting healthy thing as far as motivation goes... This morning I woke up with "today is the day" up... anyone go through that? I mean, I haven't been down, just mediocre, but I'm excited about it again... is that normal? :)

Look at you guys on here being good on the weekend :)

Those books all sound like a good read- lately I've been reading books about finances (bleh and BORING) and school application stuff... I think I will set aside a night a week to do fun reading :)

Things that changed for me

  • portion size awareness-
  •  less sweets after dinner- I try to treat once a week- ususally have fruit for dessert
  • more concious of what type of restaraunt to go to when grabbing food
  • learning (and working on) always being prepared- having plenty of food at home ready for work helps me avoid the cafeteria at work
  • Working out- I like the way it feels and it is becoming more about how my heart gets pumpin' and the weights/reps I can do and not so much about looks

My weekend- I got some good hours of exercise with my niece and nephew- the trampoline wears me out!

Good job Olivia on the bike ride!

sounds interesting... I once picked out a Cypress Hill cd at the library and thought I was in a good way until my dad read the song titles- he wasn't pleased :)

I used to do Turbo kickbox at the gym- it was a lot of fun- I stopped going b/c it got too crowded (to the point of not being able to move, so it was almost pointless) plus the time was late- I workout right after work now so I have time to make dinner and relax. Anyways is it aerobic kick or actually kickboxing?

Olivia- ding ding ding- it is Angela- good memory- my mom used to make that fruit salad as dessert (she still does for my nieces and nephews) I loved/love it! It is a nice summer treat :)
