Evening Ladies - I have adopted the team mantra! Strong and Lean! Strong and Lean! or at least somewhere in between!. Robbie: have a fabulous weekend in the Big Apple - we will be here when you get back. Bonton: I love cottage cheese but I eat yogurt instead. I can't figure out my reaction to cottage cheese. I know it has lots of protein and I love the flavor, especially with some fruit but, like chinese food, I am even hungrier an hour later! I find myself making up for the hunger with too much. Snow: I think it is funny how important the CC grade is to me. I love getting an A although mostly I get B's. I've even gotten a few C-. It absolutely motivates me to do better the next day. I took my 15 yr old daughter to buy a bathing suit today. She has a very strong body with a generous booty, so a lot of suits were not made for her shape. It is hard to know what to say. I always tell her she is beautiful and I have not pushed her to be skinny skinny - as many of her friends are - she plays soccer and eats healthy. Her father and his family always fought with their weight. I would say she is less than 15 lbs over her ideal weight. She ended up OK since we found a bathing short with a top that she was happy with, but she was holding back tears on a few occasions. Today she feels pressured since she is going with a group of her friends to the local water park on Friday. Any suggestions out there to help me with ways to help her? Of course, finding a bathing suit we like is a challenge for all of us I think!

Thank you all for your well wishes for my family. We believe in the power of positive thinking so with the exception of moments we are doing our best for each other. The ladies on this site are amazing. I so much appreciate the input and the sharing. Schaufel: Very interesting stories about how we were brought up eating. My parents also wanted me to finish everything on my plate. I was so stubborn I remember that there were times I fell asleep in my plate at the table rather than eat everything. With my own kids I took a friend's suggestion and never put very much on their plates. If they wanted seconds they got a little more. It was easy for them to finish everything when they didn't have piles of food. My sister and her twin brother had an entirely different approach. They would get in a fight at the table and (after being sure the window behind the table was open) would throw food at each other - but really out the window. My parents got mad but they didn't have to eat all their food either!! I don't have as much will power any longer. I don't eat a lot but I have a very tough time turning away a great piece of strawberry rhubarb pie, or a brownie. I also seem to have a two day lag. It can be tough to remember when on the off day I don't eat much of anything and then show a big weight gain the next day. I am trying to only weigh myself every 4 days or so in the hopes that my weight will seem more consistent. Well I am off to exercycle - best wishes to all good luck this week.

Wow, go away for a week or so and this post has more than ten more pages of posts!! Lots of fun and interesting stuff. Sorry I abandoned CC. I seem to have more than a few family members and friends who have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses in the last few weeks. Depressing for me - I just couldn't watch the calories. Fortunately I was at least able to maintain. Very interesting about the Feng Shui effects of clutter. My one New Year's resolution was to organize something every day. It was wonderful. I eventually ran out of things - with the exception of the garage - which I am still working on. It was great and very motivating to get those drawers etc that I would always look into and promise myself I would clean out looking clear and organized. I think it does effect my general feelings about myself which helps wanting to look good. Glad to be back - I will try to keep up this time.

I get protein bars (yes they are 15g each) from the nurse practitioner in our little town - the company that makes them is called Advanced Health Systems. They are not prescription but I don't know where else you can get them. Possibly online. Some of them are pretty tasty. If I run out of those I eat Luna Bars - 10g each. Either way I am pretty close to the 40g I aim for. she was the one who suggested how many grams of fat and protein I should be eating - actually 44g protein and 40 grams fat. I had been going just for high grams of protein and I was super hungry all the time. The fat grams help with my hunger. I also aim for 1200 - 1500 cals a day and I try to get some exercise in each day. I can't say I am always good about the exercise but I do manage to walk 4-5 miles at least 3 days per week. I have also cut out almost all sugar with the exception of the tsp of sugar in my tea in the morning. When I stick to it I seem to lose 2-3 lbs per week. I have also gotten better about taking a daily vitamin - seems to help with cravings. I am not sure where to get those carnival mirrors. Must make them somewhere. I think tho that those cheap home depot ones can bend a little and might work - just bend them the right way or it could backfire on you! |

OMG - I finally bought a pair of pants that have an elastic waist!!! I am ashamed to admit I really like them. What's really funny is that they make my derriere look better than my tight jeans do. You just never know!
As far as what works after the change of life? I think having one of those thinning mirrors might do the trick. Everything else i have tried has not worked. I have to say I have more recently been trying a few different things. Mostly to be sure I am getting 40g of protein and 40 g of fat per day. I happen to love chicken, turkey, tuna - those things that give us protein - but when I am trying to watch calories i have been relying on protein bars - one for breakfast and one for lunch makes 30 g of protein. All in a days try.

Hi Sam, I haven't heard from you. I have had a cold and I haven't been online much. I just go to work and come home and get in bed. I can't wait to be able to breath again! I hope all is well. DelilahBB |

I had a cold over the weekend. I found that it is very hard to stick to my diet when I am sick. I want comfort sick food! Lots of tea with honey - not so bad. Fruit Juice - loaded with calories! Lots of chicken soup and rice and more. Anyway I gained back 3 lbs. A little depressing. I have noticed that at 50 it is so easy to gain and so hard to lose. It's no fair. It takes weeks to get some off and one day to put it all back on. So different from just 10 years ago. I pretty much feel that I have always eaten a fairly healthy diet. i just didn't watch how much I ate. That is the hard part. I can't really eliminate a couple of really bad for me items. I have to just eat less of what I already eat. 10 years ago if I had been walking as much as I am now I would have had to drink Tiger Protein just to keep weight on. I would love those days back! Ah well. |

One of the best mood lifters for me is when I put on something I haven't been able to wear and it not only fits but is a little loose. It almost makes me giggle. As as matter of fact I think I have giggled on occasion. I even check myself out in the mirror once in a while as I walk past - and I am still planning on losing another 20 lbs - but I can already see some differences that make me feel happy and more successful.
Onward and downward! ( on the scale that is) |

I also have bad knees - so I started walking about 7 years ago. I now walk at a pace that is about 4 miles/hour. My knees never hurt. I try to walk 3-4 days per week and I walk 3-5 miles. I did gain weight over the last 5 years during menopause however I also stopped working for a while and found that when I am at home I eat more! So I prompty put on about 25 lbs. I am now back at work and curbing my food intake, much with the help of CC and I am 7 lbs lighter. I love the walk, not only does it keep me in shape, it is beautiful to be outside in the early morning or at dusk. I don't want an exercise regimen that is overwhelming. I would never keep it up. I walk and when it is raining I exercycle and on the occasional beautiful day I kayak. I wouldn't give up my walk for anything, it not only helps me physically, it helps me to stay calm mentally. I also try to walk with friends so that social aspect is fun and rewarding. |

This is the first I have tried watching both fat grams and protein grams and so far it seems to be working. I have lost 4 lbs in the first week - although the chart says that is only two real lbs. I feel so much better and my jeans are not quite so tight. So I would say the 40-40-20 is good for now. It seems the 40 grams of fat is the key for me. If I don't have it even if I eat more cals or protein I am still hungry. I have also noticed that yogurt works a lot better for me than cottage cheese. However, if I watch and be sure to get enough (healthy) fat grams my hunger seems much more in control and I am not craving sugar - a slight problem for me. OH, isnt' menopause a wonderful thing? I started early and was finished by the time I was 45. I can tell you that not having the monthly P is the best result. It did drastically change my metabolism. VERY frustrating and confusing, somewhat depressing. I am still trying to work with this change in my body to this day. I do think that along with the diet , exercise is so important. When I am consistent and get enough cardio (15-30 mins) the diet works better and I feel better about myself in general. It helps that it is spring and it is beautiful outside. Although, I am not yet looking forward to that first day I put on my bathing suit!

I know that it helps me to be finished eating before 6:00. I sleep better and I have recently heard that lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain. I have always been an iffy sleeper so anything that helps me get that beauty rest is important to me. If I get really hungry I have a low-fat string cheese. I figure it is not too many cals, gives me calcium and the milk in it might help me fall asleep. |

Hi Trisha, I started with CC on the 17th also. So far I find that it is an extremely useful tool. It took me until today tho to figure out how I add friends to my list. I am 50 and have already had the luck to have gone thru the change. It completely changed my metabolism. I am having to relearn what works for me and what doesn't. I am making a concerted effort to be healthy again and to like myself in a bathing suit again! Delilah

I will look up Solo Slim. On the box for Hoodia it describes it as "Hoodia Gordonii, a leafless, spiky succulent plant that grows wild in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa". It looks like in the list of ingredients it is mostly the Hoodia extract, green tea, niacin and a small amount of a chemical that I don't know. For my regular annual check ups I see a nurse practitioner. I really like her. For the past couple of years I had noticed the Hoodia in her office. She told me she has had a number of patients try it and they seem to have good results. I had been sort of trying to lose weight this last year and would find that I could do all right for a few days and then I would be terribly hungry and I would blow it. I have been watching how much protein and fat I intake since she told me I should have 44 grams of protein and 40 grams of fat every day. This seems to also be helping. I have made it 8 days without going food crazy so I look at that as my first hurdle accomplished. Whether it is the proper amount of grams or the Hoodia or both together I can't say for sure. As far as having a great memory or not I think the first years after I had my kids were very hard. Sleep deprivation especially effects your memory, your ability to focus and I just read recently that lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain! Don't worry, in my experience it is worth it and it gets better!

Hi Sam, Nice to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the two miscarriages. I have found it is very hard to focus on being healthy when I am depressed. I think taking care of yourself is one of the best way to bring yourself out of depression. Sounds like you are off to a good start. Running after those two kids ought to burn some calories! I have never heard of the Solo Slim Pill. I hope it works for you. Have you ever heard of Hoodia? I am using the Hoodia Patch. I do think it is helping keep by cravings in control. I was thrilled to see 4 lbs less on the scale today - in one week! I don't know if I will be lucky enough to get rid of 4 lbs every week and I don't know how much of it is water weight but it feels good to see it on the scale. I also feel so much better. Delilah |

Hello, I am new to the site and I am interested in all of the information I see being shared. It is very heartening to see so many women battling this same new situation as we age a bit. This tummy is so frustrating. My entire metabolism seems to have changed. Nothing that worked before works anymore. I am having to try every new thing that is suggested just hoping something will work. I have been using CC for the last week and doing pretty well. Also, my doctor suggested that I pay more attention to the amount of fat grams I get per day. I was cutting out almost all fat and found that I had tremendous sugar cravings. Now I am trying to be sure I get 40g of protein and 40g of fat per day. I am eating anywhere between 1000 and 1500 cals. I feel so much better. I try to walk at least three days per week. I don't always make it - now that it is getting warm I hope to have better motivation. It helps that I have a good friend who walks with me when we are both free at the same time. I find that exercising with a buddy makes it all easier. I too pinch my little rolls, wishing I could squeeze them away. My goal is to not be able to grab enough to fit in my hand but only enough to fit between two fingers. I am also hoping to reduce my cholesterol. I found out that in the last 6 years my cholesterol count increased from 147 to 235! This is the thing that scares me the most. My goal is 20 lbs by July 1st. I hope that is not too extreme.
