| Fitness | 1/2 Marathon Training during Ski Trip?? | Feb 09 2009 17:46 (UTC) |
|
Thanks for the feedback. I just got back from my trip and definitely did not have the energy for any runs after skiing all day. Now, I've got to get back on track and try to fit my runs in in between my tennis matches and before I leave for France. Feeling like I might've bitten off a bit more than I can chew. Oh well, at least my commitments are healthy ones!!

My periods used to be like that and the cramps would be so painful that i would be nauseous and unable to leave the couch. Never had issue with spotting or irregularity, but bloating, back pain, tender breasts, and peeing all the time are all menstrual symptoms too, not just pregnancy. It's possible to cramp during the month. I notice cramping when I'm ovulating which occurs about 2 weeks after your period. Birth control has relieved that for me, but that may be counter-productive for you since you'd like to have a baby. My OB-GYN recommended exercise and begin taking whatever OTC pain reliever that works for you every day for the few days preceding your period or as soon as you start cramping. I highly recommend ibuprofren and try to avoid a lot of salt, since that causes you to retain water and bloat. I hope you feel better! |

| Health & Support | High level of bad cholesterol | Jan 09 2009 15:09 (UTC) |

I just got this diagnosis this week, too! But for some reason it's really alarming me, because I am only 28 , I quit smoking almost a year ago, and my blood was taken 3 weeks after I finished my first half marathon! My HDL and my triglycerides are both high. I wonder how bad it would be if I hadn't made all these lifestyle changes in the last year. Luckily, I already started counting calories again and training for another half marathon. But what I'm wondering is how many grams of fat can I consume per meal to be considered low fat? Is it 15 or less? Do I need to be counting cholesterol mg on food labels too?

| Recipes | Bold Flavors: Favorite Marinades? Chicken Seasonings? | Oct 28 2008 16:36 (UTC) |

My favorite quick and healthy marinade is for a Ginger Soy chicken: 2 T. Soy 2 T. Fresh chopped ginger (don't skimp on this one. it doesn't turn out well with ground ginger 1 T. minced garlic (jar kind is fine) 1/8 tsp. of cayenne pepper I also throw in about a tsp. of splenda but that's optional. You only need to marinade it for about 15 minutes. Pop the chicken in the oven. I usually make 2 batches of the marinade and use the second batch to toss my rice in. (For the second batch reduce quantities by half). Finish off with freshly sliced green onions in the rice. I also garnish the chicken with the green onions and sometimes some sesame seeds. This is a recipe that you can play around with. I eyeball, not measure. So feel free to take whatever liberties you like with this one. My boyfriend is not a healthy eater, but this is one of his favorite meals that i make. I hope you enjoy! |

| Weight Loss | I need to lose 10lbs in a month, any suggestions?? | Oct 02 2008 21:32 (UTC) |

I started South Beach Diet about 3 weeks ago and I've lost 7 pounds. Though, typically people are expected to lose 7-14 pounds in the first two weeks. That didn't happen for me, but I've extended Phase 1 past the recommended 2 weeks and I've dropped a pound every day this week. It's a great diet and I had a lot of success with it about 4 years ago, but I didn't stick with it and gained it all back (but, note it took 4 years to gain it all back). The first phase is really restrictive, but you start to see results quickly which gives you the motivation to stay on track. I would recommend buying the book, too. I go back to it all the time. Congrats on the 20 pounds and best of luck on the rest!
