i'm 28 and get about 7-9 hours of sleep each night. my energy levels are high all day and into the night. i attribute that to healthy eating, a.m. exercise, and water...because prior to those things, my energy level was low-mid. i only take naps if i'm sick or had a long/late night because it takes almost an hour for me to start sleeping once i lay down for a nap (not like this for normal sleep). i also wake up at 7am without an alarm and find that i have more energy when i don't wake up via alarm (aka snooze-o-rama) |

Sunday Night Dinner is usually also my cheat meal for the week...this week I made Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, and Greens :D All other days I have large breakfasts and lunches so my dinners are like snacks. Everyone is sounding nice and healthy! |

Yeah, I've lost almost 50lbs and not everyone says something. I think everyone has a different reason for not commenting--some just don't observe those sort of things (ie: people who make great eye contact and focus on your face, which is actually how I am), some people don't feel comfortable talking about it your weight/body, others might not want to compliment you bc of their own insecurities, but I think most of them don't comment because they want you to know you accept/love them at whichever weight. That is what I heard from my friends back home I've known since I was 6yrs old and also from my wonderful boyfriend...he doesn't say anything ever unless I directly ask. He supports my efforts and goals, but I can tell he notices (and likes!) the changes by the way he touches me. I like this MUCH better than my ex who noticed/commented about my weight loss/gains more than myself--it made me feel like he was hoping and praying I'd lose weight and I knew then that it was obvious to him when I gained which made me unhappy.

Thank you, ladies! Both very good advice and reflections. I do believe that while my man is a Southern gentlemen, that he also loves me at any size. In fact, he's a little unphased by my weight loss to this point, which is kinda nice because it creates less pressure to obtain my goal and stick to it...there is enough of that within me, and I think having a man who is overly pro-weightloss leads to self-sabatoge for me (which occurred with my ex).

| Weight Loss | Feeling weird about losing weight & the attention | Aug 07 2008 18:37 (UTC) |
57 |
Momof2funykids, I really think it boils down to some females thrive on the attention from random guys and others despise it...and others are indifferent; they don't like it, but they don't let it bother them. I think I'm going to try to be more like that last mindset. I think you have a quality that many others wish they had, which is that you feel good enough about yourself within--you don't need random men hitting on you, or to fish for compliments from your husband and friends, to feel good about yourself and your "new" you.
And as an aside, I have a friend who I've known for a few years now--we met at my old job at a music mag. She moved out here from Ohio to Los Angeles and has lost a significant amount of weight. She went from average, and even a bit chunkier in college, to stick, model, Hollywood thin. And she absolutely LOVE...I mean LOVES the attention she gets from guys. She waves and smiles back, flirts, makes sexual innuendo comments and jokes, totally eats it up. It's fun (ok sometimes a little annoying) when we are going out. But I also see that she really craves that validation and attention from men to let he know she's "doin something right". It's a different kind of "confidence" than the way we (all of us on this thread!) react to the attention. Different strokes for different folks :)

You are doing so great, what a tremendous success you've had so far! Everyone's body is different and having a good amount of muscle is a wonderful quality. I also have a lot of muscle and so my "weight" sits differently on my body than I've seen others.

just wanted to reply again cuz wow--halizabeth you really hit it on the head! also r4eboxer, i agree about the females cuz none of my girl friend have commented on my weightloss at all, even though i've lost 30lbs that are obvious...grammas at the gym and my family does...but not my peers. i don't really want them to talk about it a lot cuz it's ackward...but i think it's definitely a nod to female insecurity...will be interesting to see how this goes, esp livin in L.A. and themonbon--yeah i'm right there with you...even when i was heavier i still DESPISED getting hit on by randoms and pretty much act like a total b!tch when that happens...so i guess it shouldn't shock me that i'm annoyed now and might after more weightloss too... jennylaw, really good point about not liking the attention because we don't like the "suface judgements" from others. that's a big one too...i'm such a inner-beauty lover that shallowness makes me ill. i bet a part of it definitely is my disguist for that in general and everytime i hear a comment or an obvious gawking, i'm reminded of it. gi-jane, good point about dressing. i definitely have a curvy hourglass figure but that doesn't mean that i need to dress provacatively. well--the same tanktop on me and someone with a smaller chest obviously portrays two different looks, a constant challenge. but still--i think we should take that into account. don't hide our figures with baggy clothes but keep ourselves looking respectful so we don't send the wrong message. or, if we do wanna dress a bit on the wild side every now and then, be prepared for the attention! and about that butt Mrs Dagle and Mom, stairmaster, stairclimbing, stepper machine, squats!!! that should round it out nicely! i would be devastated if i lose this butt...but i know the affect that those exercises have. it's a major mission of mine to have a very toned, shapely bod, not just lose the weight. for a few of you who have mentioned this, as far as the men in our lives who may or may not stick by our sides while we do this--my bf rarely comments on my weightloss...altho i can tell he notices because of the way he touches me and where, and he loves picking me up too. i like that he doesn't obsess over it because it makes me know that IF i were to regain, he'd still love me for me. i think that's hugely important to our motivation, to feel that safety with that person. my ex was more into my weightloss than me and needless to say it hurt. lastly, Mom--it sounds like the word "hot" really got to you and also being called that by your hubby's friends. i'd be pissed too! but that's more an issue with your hubby's friends and respect, try not to let it reflect back on you, have you talked to your hub about it? i love the fact that you're hot and look amazing...i think eventually your mind will accept the fact. heck--i will LOVE to be "hot" mom! have you felt or been called hot before at a time in your life? or is this all very new to you? do you you feel you shouldn't be looked at in a sexual way because your a mother or because of your age? maybe ask your husband to use other words that you really like...such as beautiful or amazing or great? |

momof2funykids--i'm SO happy you posted this. i relate so much and i'm trying to work thru it. for me, i've lost 35lbs now (from 215lbs) and have about 40lbs more to go. i am also fearing what it will be like then and on the way there because i've already noticed to much more attention. i'm very okay and grateful for compliments on my face, smile, hair, skin...but compliments or obvious looks as attention from the opposite sex in a sexual way will remind me of--highschool--when i was that weight! i got so much sexual attention in highschool for developing fast and being so curvy...already the gawking is starting to come. i'm trying to "visualize" myself thin and learn to accept. it's ongoing. and while we're at different places in our lives--i have a soul mate of a boyfriend in my life and the last thing i want is more attention from guys. MANY GIRLS live off this kind of attention, but it's not for everyone. i'm gonna keep reading the thread but i'm curious to know how you try to work through the thoughts in your head? i try to sit there or walk and think of myself being a great size with all the curves and everything and try to just get used to thinking this way...i dunno...i need help :( |

Original Post by killerqueen215:
you know, killerqueen...i was pretty stumped for awhile. but my evidence that it was stunting my efforts are the following: 1. two years ago i stopped drinking for a month or so while eating well and exercising and lost 15lbs!!!!!! i looked great, glowing...it was awesome, then i started drinking again and the eating followed and i gained like 20-25 back :( 2. as a test, about a month ago, i switched to a new style of drinking. from just drinking whatever i want, tho not much beer, to drinking ONLY "low-cal" drinks and much less of them, plus held to my weekday eating plan. i lost about 5lbs after that weekend!!! so those two factors made a huge difference.
i guess i just feel like for me, needing to lose like 50lbs...i guess i've just matured in my thinking and telling myself "i can't give up drinking" sounds stupid considering all the health risks of being that overweight. wish it wasn't the case! |

it feels good to know i'm not the only one with drink-weight...and most of the people who share the problem seem to be ladies! very inspiring to hear your stories. and yes--i was recently more of a 4-10 drinks a night (7pm - 7am sometimes!?!) drinker. i usually would do that 1-2 nights a week. of course in college it was more like every night (not till 7am), or at least 3-4 nights a week. UGH I would say I gained about 40 pounds or so after highschool which was due to suddenly the only activity being riding bike to class or walking to parties + drinking all the time + 420 + munchies caused by both and hangover remedies that include greasy foods. it's been 5 years since i graduated college...so about 9yrs of that party-lifestyle. i'm excited to see what happens. and i do feel SO good already! I love knowing I will NEVER be hungover, saving all kinds of money...and that I'm not counteracting all my weight loss effort! it's really cool to see those of you who now incorporate drinks into your daily calories! my problem is i have to be all or nothing at this point, there is just too many "open bar" events (i work in music industry, tons of networking!) with free booze, i have too many party friends, and i don't have the desire to have "just one". so i'm over it right now. i do plan on eventually entering red wine into my maintenance plan because it's my favorite, but probably only at dinner parties, dinner out to eat, or special occasions. for now--i just don't have enough control to do that...but i feel great being in control by NOT drinking! I will definitely update everyone if I see major changes...my heaviest was 215, I'm at 190 now, having lost 20lbs since Winter 07...and my first goal is 160...then hoping to be about 130 or so life (I'm 5' tall, but am so curvy I don't want to compromise the T&A too much...I have no desire to be "skinny" just fit, tight, and curvy) . |

| Weight Loss | Not everyone is meant to be a stick.... | Jun 03 2008 01:16 (UTC) |

i got over wanting to be a stick back in middle school when all the guys wanted to get with me because of my curvy body. okay--obviously this had it's own set of issues. but i never lost my confidence in my shape. it was also weird growing up in the midwest in an mostly white area (i'm mixed) then moving to the cali and realizing how accepted my body type is here...that really helped!! :) however--i agree with those here who have said, once you gain too much the main part that makes it an "hourglass" (the smaller waist!) seems to be less defined...which might not be considered as sexy by some/many. like maddie109, by losing weight...my goal is to go back to that great definition--nice round booty, big boobies, and a slim waist! and yeah--that's hot by my book! it's so interesting that "Hollywood" aka tv/movie/mags seem to feel that "curvy" means someone who is 120lbs and happens to have a little butt or boob. that's just not real life.

kaffwynn...yeah???? that's inspiring! my plan is to stop till i get down to my ideal weight and then will give in to my love for red wine on "special occasions" and/or factor it into my maintenance plan...kinda like you susieq76! wow--i could see losing at least 30lbs given the results i saw that one time lucky for you mortalmonkey!!! sometimes i feel like i'm living the Lohan/Spears/Hilton lifestyle and i just woke up one day and realized that, and realized that there IS another way to live life, so i'm going to discover that :) any one else notice results when they stopped drinkin? |

differences, yes! face, neck, tumtum, arms... personally, i wouldn't even look at pix every 3weeks, i don't think i'd see enuf difference to make me happy. measurements, body-fat calibrator, or weigh-in every 3-weeks sure. i think i would expect to see a big diff in pix every couple of couple of months instead of every couple of weeks. don't wanna set yourself up for disappointment after all the hard work you are doing! but you are definitely shrinking :) |

- def get a hobbie or some kind of focus for yourself in the evenings/night - try to work the foods you like to overeat into your daily calorie plan by planning in advance using the calorie counter thing - i think a lot of losing weight has to do with needing a certain mindset. for me--i tried to do this so many times, but it's like i was setting myself up for failure. i didn't have the strength, will-power, or proper support team to really be *good* at what i was trying to do. then finally one day it snapped and all the sudden my focus is on point. let's just say this...i gained a ton in college, have been trying to lose since ~2002...it's 2008 and i'm finally "ready" (despite trying for years..). anyway, be easy on yourself...and help yourself get into the proper mindset of why you want to lose weight and your actions will follow. i think if it's just for looks, it might not be the best motivator. |

i think it's good to switch up machines if you need variety, have access to them, etc. but if you stick with one (or even if you switch with you rotation of 3), then it's necessarily to increase speed, incline, resistance, length of time, etc..something to keep challenging your body as it adjusts to your workout :) |

| Fitness | Personal Training, Will it work? | Apr 23 2008 01:55 (UTC) |

hi! i had a great personal trainer for about 4mo and the results were outstanding. now--my diet (as was mentioned) wasn't as in check as it should have been, so i didn't lose tons of weight. but what it did for me was: - reshape my body into the curvy hourglass that i want back (well, still have more weight to lose but def getting there!) - totally challenged me, i realized i should be working out harder than i had ever done on my own - the constant changing of the workouts kept my body guessing and my mind happy - someone waiting on me and asking about the other cardio i was doing, as well as what i was eating, made me totally conscious of what i was doing...it was nice having someone to check up on me - taught me that i CAN go to the gym 5-6days a week (i was using trainer for 2day, cardio the rest)...and even without the trainer now, and 1mo of no exercising, i have come back to it from Dec until now and have no plan to stop the routine. A wonderful investment...good luck to you and your wife, and congrats on your previous losses! |

SAME PROBLEM!!!
Mine was so bad that I think between "cheat day(s)" and partying (booze)...i gained back all my efforts throughout the week! I changed it for 1 weekend and lost 5lbs! Amazing! But it's still a major challenge. In thinking of how to stay on track--I think I'm going to do what I do for the week, but for the weekend. I'm going to go shopping Fri morning and buy healthy breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner depending on plans. That way--since many days I'm home working on projects all day, I will be prepared! Preparation really is key... |

i have been on YAZ almost a year now, switched due to crazzzzy pms on another pill. i haven't noticed any weight gain (or loss for that matter) specifically due to the pill. my doctor was VERY adamant that pills now days don't make you gain weight because they have all had hormones adjusted to prevent that, or something. so that kills that excuse i often liked to use for my weight ;) no other side effects tho, just mellow. |

personally, my boobies and booty shrink as i lose weight, but it's just fine because both are big--so as the rest of me gets smaller, they can too...but still be a nice hourglass shape. but to keep that booty bigger or firmed--STAIR MASTER / STEPPING MACHINE!!! i used to use the stair master a few years back, that was my thing for cardio. i stopped because it was making my booty even bigger! it's not exactly what i wanted, tho--i think if in this weight loss process now, if i needed to add shape, i'd get on the stair master at least once a week. no flat butt for me, please! |
