blue bunny fat free/no sugar added caramel toffee swirl or fudge brownie iceream is only 90 calories and tastes amazing.
the only issue i've had with it is if i eat more than one serving per day, it bothers my stomach. that's probably due to some of the artificial additives. but a single serving shouldn't be a problem, especially calorie wise.
but if you don't mind artificial sweeteners, definitely blue bunny.

Cravings for sugar are often a result of low blood-sugar. Symptoms... energy dies away, feeling a little 'jittery' or shaky, low moods, fatigue/yawning, hunger-pangs. This can be caused by a) not eating enough in total, b) eating too much sugar, refined carbohydrates and processed foods and c) going too long between meals. A little honey on its own is unlikely to cause the problem
Check you are a) eating enough, b) eating mostly 'whole' unprocessed, unsweetened foods and c) eating regular meals and snacks. Good luck
none of those symptoms really apply to me. i'm pretty much just craving carbs and sweets.
i actually never get real hunger pangs, just cravings. |

If you buy honey, get it from a local beekeeper. What you see on the store shelves has been heat extracted and always has a faint smell of beeswax. The local honey I get tastes so fresh and smells like flowers.
As for it being better than using refined, white sugar - a calorie is a calorie and sugar is sugar. While we can get some benefits from honey, such as the flavor, the calories add up the same way.
Moderation is the key. Just stay within your daily limit and burn more than you eat and you'll lose weight.
oh, i know that a calorie is a calorie; i was just unsure if my recent cravings for more sugar were linked with the fact that i recently started eating honey.
but thanks everyone for answering. |

Eating too much V.s Eating too fast |

i kind of have the same problem, and i think it stems from the fear that my food is going to get cold (or melt if it's frozen) if i don't eat it quick enough. because of that i've developed a habit of eating too fast, even though i used to be able to stretch out one lean cuisine to thirty minutes without speaking to anybody at dinner.
what i hate about it is that it gets me really full (which i don't like). i'd rather eat and not feel the food in my stomach making it bigger (partially chewed food vs. fully chewed), so i should probably break the habit :T |

I'm with kajikit here. While it might be a few cals over, it's not a huge difference. 3 ounces of a meat compared to 4 is a huge difference though. At the end of the day, it's close enough for me.
Although, I wonder if there's a difference in starting weight and viewpoint. I mean, compare how many calories I used to eat to maintain/increase my weight before I started to my current intake. 100 calories is nothing when you're over 300 to start. But if you only need to lose 10 pounds, seems like it'd be harder.
lol a few calories over?
you have to remember that a serving of cereal is typically around 30g. even if you put it in a cup and then weigh it out and it's 10g more--and even though 10 isn't a big number--that's 1/3 more calories. in a 120 calorie cereal, that's 40 calories more...
40 calories is not a big deal at all.
really? well i guess it's a matter of opinion then. 40 calories would put a big dent in my plans for the day. it's like the difference between a bowl of cereal with a half of a banana, or just a bowl of cereal.
and what if you eat more than one bowl of cereal a day? or, quite frankly, a lot of food labels are similarly inaccurate. you could be eating hundreds of calories over what you think you're eating.
@armandleg: haha, another big breakfast eater. i'm like that too, i can't stand a small breakfast. but two bowls of cereal for breakfast to me is like nothing, i'm a big, BIG breakfast eater. sometimes i'll end up eating almost all of my calories at breakfast. :x |

I'm curious to know how old you are. Some meds said to help with these problems can be habit-forming, even if they're non-addictive. You get "addicted" to how they make you feel and it makes it hard to stop taking them.
Also, why can't you jog? Are you trying to jog your entire 6 mile route? Of course you'll end up winded. But unless you have asthma or another health problem, a healthy young person should be able to work their way up to jogging.
You might consider reviewing your diet/exercise with a doctor or nutritionist. They might have suggestions for upping your protein or other things that will help you get by on less sleep and still have the energy you need for the day.
i'm 17.
i tried jogging before, but it was really, really difficult to keep up for even two minutes. never in my life have i been a good runner; it hurts my chest horribly and i just get slower and slower with each few seconds that go by. but somehow, i'm an excellent walker.
but like i said, i thought about it and i think it's more of the classes themselves that are making me drowzy, because i recall last year being able to get a lot of sleep, consistently, for a month or so and still falling asleep. the sleepiness happens at home when i'm sitting in a chair playing video games or watching TV, even if i had woken up at 12 in the afternoon that same day. i think it has something to do with... okay, i'm supposed to be concentrating on this, and the more i realize that the sleepier i get. does that make sense? |

The effects of both adderal and Ritalin last 12 hours on the low end - even taking smaller doses . They are both obtained by prescription. If you describe you lack of alertness, or more accurately, your lack of concentration (I'm assuming this has something to do with school or studying?) your doctor may prescribe one of these, or a similar, medication.
Please be advised that both these meds are strong, and unless you take them first thing in the morning, you will find it very difficult to sleep, which leads to taking these pills pretty much every day to cope with the lack of sleep. A better first step for alertness is more sleep to begin with ,or perhaps switching up your schedule (i.e. waking up earlier to study.) I find that I am personally more alert in the morning, and have always gotten my best work done then. I hope you find a solution that works for you, hun!
if i were to be prescribed the meds, i would definitely take them in the morning when i wake up at 5:30. i'm only sleepy at school, and as school starts at 8 and ends at 2:50 i should be fine with 12 hours.
you know, i'm beginning to think that it's more about sitting in a desk listening to lectures that make me drowzy, rather than a lack of sleep. over the summer there have been a lot of days where i've only achieved 7 hours of sleep and i very rarely got sleepy. when i did it was at night, but only when i was sitting in a chair watching TV.
it's kind of like if i'm supposed to concentrate on something and i'm sitting down, i'll fall asleep. |

try less timeconsuming exercise. Do more intense workouts that take you 1 hour or less.
Instead of walking, alternate walking and jogging for half the time. Or walk up and down hills or stairs for 1/2 to 1/4 of the time. Replace one day of walking with an interval workout. Go all out for 1 minute, then recover, then go all out again. Do this for a max of 20 minutes.
Some days, replace walking with 20 minutes of weight lifting. 2 or 3 20 minute workouts will help make you fit and trim. Add 5 minutes of warmup/cooldown, and 5-10 minutes of stretching, and you have a full workout in under 45 minutes.
Then use the time you save to sleep more.
ahh, the numbers are so mindboggling...
i really can't run or jog; i've tried, but i get winded way too easily and it's just plain not enjoyable. the problem with weights/ walking stairs, too, is that i don't want to build muscle; i just want to burn calories. and i don't have any access to weights anyway...
i'm not really an educated exerciser, either, so i honestly don't know what i'm doing. that's why i walk: it's simply and it burns a lot of calories.
although, 3 miles takes me about 40-45 minutes for a total of about an hour and a half for all 6. honestly, i'd rather take medicine than cut back on 30-40 minutes of walking time for exercise i don't feel comfortable doing.
30-40 minutes won't make much a difference on 6-7 hours of sleep, as i tend to get sleepy even with a lot more. i remember once last year i tried getting 10 hours and i was still dozing off. i'm not sure the issue lies completely within my schedule/sleeping time, which is why i was considering medicine.

i personally don't think they're worth 60 calories; they're so small.
i prefer taking the instant stuff you're supposed to make with milk and make it with water and splenda instead, and eating all four servings you get in the packet for about 100 calories.
there's a lot of sodium, about 60% of your DV, but all you really have to do is lay off the sodium for the rest of the day. it's way more worth it, IMO. |

Yes. Adderal and Ritalin. Both will make you not sleep at all, be shaky, and not be hungry. But, oh my, will you be alert. These drugs are staples of law/grad/medical school. Not recomended for anyone trying to live a healthy lifestyle, unless you truly have severe ADD. But.... you asked, and they do have the sole benefit of making one concentrate most intently.
how long do their effects last?
as long as it keeps me awake from 5:30 am-9:30pm, i think i would be fine.
i wouldn't abuse them, maybe just use them occasionally on days where i really haven't gotten much sleep.

and so those are not real people?
they are. the world is ruled by people. it's all us.
the people in the media are only doing their jobs. they provide us with entertainment, and i, personally, am grateful.
I don't want to start a mud-slinging contest, but you're really coming off as a tad ignorant, and while it's true, that humans are running this supermassive entity we're labeling "the media," it's also true that it's a source of brainwashing, the target being society in general.
As human beings, we're easily influenced by external stimulus - coinciding with human behaviour and preying upon our fears and what we perceive as wants and needs, the "media," whether it be television, radio, videogames or the newspaper, can target us and tell us what it thinks we want or need. "Buy this, it'll help to achieve so-and-so," "Buy this, everybody else has it so why don't you?" and other such general and underlying messages.
However, you're not the only one who thinks as you do. Sheep to the herd, I suppose.
true, although i believe that the media argument has been addressed. in the end, it's a cycle, and as stated before it's the sole responsibility of the individual to either become a part of that or steer clear.
my point about the media being made up of people was to deny the ridiculous idea that the media is some, say... machine that brainwashes society. of course it's not, but with all the fuss you think that's what it would be. the fuss is just a way to dodge responsibility and avoid addressing one's own weakness/ inability to think for one's self. |

People/things do have an effect on what we "want" and sometimes not all people "want" what is best for their body. I honestly don't think that people who "want" to be underweight should simply go for it because they "want what they want". Yes I completely support people doing things to make them happy, but in most cases with things like this someone wanting to be constantly underweight is going to get sick, be it starvation or a mental disorder, and chances are doing what they "want" is not going to help them in the long run. And I'm not blaming it solely on the media, because I understand how dumb that is because people are individuals, but I was more going with the thing that their are people on here that have no confidence and want to lose excessive amounts of weight considering their height/current weight, and overall it's not going to make them happy when they actually do lose it.
Edit-also this was a reply to garnet18 :P I'm not 100% sure how the reply thing works.
ah, i see.
well, what if it does make them happy?
i admit that i lost a lot of weight in an unhealthy way, but i am, more or less, happy. happier than i was when i was overweight.
i'm not underweight, and as much as i honestly would like to be, i'm not going to try. i can understand that many people with eating disorders want to keep on losing more and more weight because it's a control thing, but for me, i believe it was strictly about the weight. i've reached a weight that i'm comfortable with, and although i do sometimes wish that it were a helluva lot lower, i'm more or less content here. that being said, the only difference is that i would not accept myself and i would not be happy if i were to gain weight. but i believe that having lost a lot of weight, i'm FAR more comfortable with myself now.
*shrug* i guess i'm an odd case? assuming that most other people who develop eating disorders can never attain the happiness they strive for... i guess i have. dunno.
"i admit that i lost a lot of weight in an unhealthy way, but i am, more or less, happy. happier than i was when i was overweight."
... aaand this is what we call "mental illness."
oh, i'm not denying that i have a mental illness on a certain level.
this does not mean that i can't formulate thoughts that aren't interrupted by what you all seem to think is wrong and skewed. i'm not "brainwashed."
and so it's a problem that i'm happy at a lower weight? why? am i not allowed to like my body because it's unhealthy? if that's the case, then should overweight people be allowed to like their bodies?
there is no law that states "you must be healthy to be happy." that is an opinion.
"a square has four sides" is a fact.
"george w. bush is the president of the united states" is a fact.
"health is more important than appearance" is an opinion. get it?
happiness and satisfaction are 100% subjective.
i know that you're probably going to try and counter me again with the fact that i have an eating disorder and thus cannot think properly. i admit that the eating disorder has CHANGED my way of thinking; however, it has not made me WRONG. what is wrong? again, wrong is subjective, unless you're talking about how many sides a square has.
i don't know how to make it any more clear, honestly.

garnet, there's a very good chance that the thin "real people" you're talking about seeing as inspiration are indeed "thin" because of what they've been force-fed by the media. So it COULD indeed all be coming back to that. No, you can't solely blame the media, but they're ALL OVER photos of a celebrity that has gained weight. Actresses are often turned down for roles because they're not thin enough. Thin is seen by most people in Hollywood to be beautiful. Every time you turn on the tv, you're bombarded with dieting commercials- pills, workouts, surgery, etc.
If the media disappeared, I'm not saying everyone would blow up to a high-range healthy weight, but I sure think we'd have less pressure to be thin.
can you say that for sure? there is one specific girl i have in mind who i always admired because she was so thin and beautiful. she was less than 100 pounds and yet she ate fast food several times each day. i know because she was one of my good friends.
believe it or not, there are a lot of girls who eat healthy amounts of food and are simply naturally thin. my sister, for example, is another girl who motivated me. she sits down at the kitchen table and eats chips and ice cream straight from the carton, and she's barely 100 pounds.
there are probably more naturally thin people than there are thin people pressured by celebrities to be thin. probably. |

her priorities are skewed, huh?
there is no rule that states health is more important than appearance.
just hear me out:
there is no right or wrong in this situation. it's all about preference. i realize that, as this is a health forum, most of the opinions here are going to be way biased. you're going to tell me that health is more important than looking good. i'm not saying that looking good is more important than health, but that neither is more important than the other because in the end, it's all about what ULTIMATELY SATISFIES the individual in question. happiness is not the goal of life, satisfaction is. some people are actually satisfied being miserable so long as they are thin. if that's their preference, FINE. if they're satisfied with what they're doing, then that is what is important to them and nobody has the right to tell them that they are wrong for wanting something. are homosexuals' preferences skewed, too? what about pedophiles? pro-choicers? i realize that the situations vary a bit, but in the end, it's all about living life HOWEVER YOU WANT. i only believe in striving for what you feel comfortable striving for. if that's the perfect body, fine. if that's health, fine. in the end, we're all going to die. might as well live life how you want to.
also, like i said before, many girls are inspired by thin women they see walking down the street. i was that way. it's not all about the airbrushed women in magazines. and, like i said before, i am happier now that i'm thin than i was when i was overweight. i am living proof that it is possible to strive for thinness and happiness and to achieve both. sorry if i sound vain, but the idea that "thinness will never make you happy" is a little silly. |

*shrug* i guess i'm an odd case? assuming that most other people who develop eating disorders can never attain the happiness they strive for... i guess i have. dunno. |
