Aw sounds like so many of you are doing SO well! Me... not so much! I'm still eating well, working out (missed 2 work outs due to appoinments/busy days though). Ironically I went to the doctors for a cough and she noticed a few funny things in my symptoms and asked me to get some blood work done too... they are checking my Iron, Vitamin D and any Thyroid issues among things ect... then at the gym that day a woman pointed out she's seen me working out a lot but I've gained a little in the middle (we were having an open weight loss conversation and I mentioned having had no problem in the past but this time I am gaining weight doing what has worked before) and she too mentioned a Thyroid issue so who knows. It would answer my questions. Doesn't make sense to have a healthy diet and excercise program at 24years old and be gaining weight rapidly.

I think everyone is different. At my highest, which was just ove 190lbs (I was 21 years old at the time) I lost over 30lbs in just under three months. I ate VERY properly and worked out at the gym about 8hrs a week. I've learnt patience is the key (when the weight loss is working time goes by pretty fast). When you have medical factors involed (thyroid) talk to your doctor about what types of medication you can take or changes you can make so that it doesn't interfere with your weight loss program. |

SOLD! I am weighing myself today so don't know where I am at yet (last was around 162lbs). I was recently working in Mexico for a week then was sick for a week so I've missed two weeks of diet and excercise, however everything still fits the same so I shouldn't be off my much. CALORIE LIMIT: 1300-1500 My diet consists of a variety of things. I try to eat an equal amount of Fats/Proteins/Carbs. I eat three meals a day + two snacks and not within 3hrs of bed time. EXERCISE: 5x a week for 1-1.5 hrs. Cardio for usually 3/4 or the time + weight training, some yoga, tai chi and pilates work too once or twice a week. WATER: Um whenever I can haha. I'm also drinking lot's of iced green and white tea rather than Crystal Lights/Pop. MEET YOUR GOAL?: I am hoping to lose 10lbs by the beginning of May GOOD ADVICE FOR ANYONE: Be patient... and I need to take that advice myself as well because I get discouraged when I don't see results soon enough. A bit about myself... I am 24yrs old and 5'7". I have successfully lost weight before (was about 15lbs from my final final goal, lost 30lbs overall) but last summer I broke my knee and since have gained 10lbs. I have been trying to lose it since the end of January but my body is NOT reacting. I have been told knee injuries can really affect weight loss so I am going to go extra hard at this for the next few weeks... thus why I need this little group! Trust me I WILL get frustrated!

Report him for harrassment I know the image that gives ACTUALLY reporting someone so I think (or what I would do) you're best just to walk up to him confidently & with moxie and let him know his words are lame and to lay off... and offer to lend him a hankerchief to wipe the drool off his face for when he sees the way you look when you're done.

BAH forget him (I know, easier said than done) Anyways I find I lose weight more efficiently after a break up. For some reason the anger or spite in me makes me work my ass off at the gym and poof there went 10lbs after 2 months haha (with diet too I should mention). It doesn't heal the heart but it sure makes the ego feel better. The rest will come.

| Weight Loss | Will I ever be able to eat normally? | Mar 07 2009 02:23 (UTC) |

The thing is losing weight and keeping it off IS a lifestyle change... no you can't just go back to eating whatever again because you'll gain it all right back right? Thanks to this site we learn about how much calories are in what foods and get a better understanding of what our body needs and wants. It becomes second nature to apply it to a weight maintaining lifestyle... then if you do slip up and gain a bit just make sure to hit the gym or watch what you eat again. Only there is a lot less to lose this time around. So the answer is YES, you will keep thinking about it which is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle but NO, you won't be obsessing over it. There are always the hard times when you want all that bad food but you just got to remember to keep everything in check. Thats life eh?

I have been going to physio three times a week since my surgery in September and I am stopping this week (we decided together since it's all up to me now, they can't do much else at this point until unless I CAN'T overcome it). I never had to wear a cast since it was broken at the knee, only a brace for the first week. I also met with my surgeon today who said my bone is back to normal and I can do extreme sports again if I wanted HOWEVER since I still have so much muscle injury and recovery... I'm looking for tips from that angle. I obviously want to regain full muscle use before I do anything crazy. I'm hoping I can wakeboard again by July. Right now my biggest issue is just bending it all the way or lifting it at the knee while sitting and stepping downward... when I do my knee colapses because there is zero muscle. I CAN however squat and lunge at least now. I'm just trying to find any exercises I haven't thought of. When the snow melts at least I can go biking and hiking again haha. |

My best estimated guess is that you pulled a muscle in your knee (which could explain the fluid). You didn't do anything crazy enough to worry about a ligament and the pain you explain under the circumstances it hurts also makes it seem unlikely. I would say meet with a physio therapist. They will also tell you to rest and get back in SLOWLY... and literally it would be baby steps because your body needs to recondition. |

| Weight Loss | Question about how late one can eat? | Mar 03 2009 16:44 (UTC) |
23 |
I'm a believer of not eating right before bed! The 7pm rule is based on the fact that most adults go to bed around 10pm. I don't eat within 3hrs of bed and I'm usually not hungry by the time I hit the hay... I found that not eating before bed in the past has helped my weight loss... because essentially you're just adding calories for cravings... you don't need to build more energy to sleep. If you are hungry before bed then have a glass of milk or something. |

I also agree. Not too mention you appear to be VERY thin in your profile... if I were you I would stop trying to lose weight and just try and get fit for your marathon. I would say weight loss is probably unhealthy if you are still that thin and will only hurt your chances of completing the marathon. |

| Weight Loss | Diet Soda Addiction - An American Epidemic! | Mar 03 2009 16:27 (UTC) |

Call me ignorant but I never knew diet soda was SO SO bad (other than the aspartame obviously) until I joined this site. I drink it all the time but would never consider myself addicted to it, I can and do go days without it and it doesn't bother me, in fact I don't even think of it. I just choose it because it is calorie free and tastes good (I like diet pepsi or 7up/sprite). A few years ago my mom was on the south beach diet and it told her she can have all the cafeine free diet pepsi she wanted so we had tons of it in the house. Now I will be the first to admit I am NOT a fan of drinking water unless I am excercising and the few occasional glasses a day. I am always drinking something but I don't drink many juices because its like liquid candy SO what can you suggest? I've checked the flavored waters and they are either also very high in calories and make me bloated OR also have aspartame... it seems there is no way to win and the rule I like to follow is have a bit of everything in moderation. Too much of anything is bad. |

I often take pill packs back to back and have never noticed water rention from it. My guess is since you're taking them back to back your body never the signal to 'flow' therefore never actually retains water. I'm no expert though... but I've been taking them like this on and off (sometimes three in a row) for 3 years. |

| Fitness | Spinning- does it bulk up your legs? | Feb 27 2009 21:13 (UTC) |
|
LOVE spinning for my legs and butt! It didn't bulk me up at all BUT I did get more definition. As a woman you will never really bulk up too much unless you're actually trainning to which is quite different. I'd say keep doing it and with muscle definition you will have some fat lose and should be ok... obviously genetics are a factor but there is nothing you can do about that. I say keep up with spinning a few times a week, just don't go overboard. |

I would just recommend changing your diet and exercise plans. Sometimes a change is all your body needs to get it into gear. It has gone through changes and might not need the same things you were giving it. This might not be the case for you, but it's worth a shot! Muscle doesn't weight enough for you to notice such a drastic difference... unless you were becoming a bulky body builder and it took over haha.

| Weight Loss | your inspiration? | Feb 06 2009 16:56 (UTC) |

Inspiration... here's what I like to do. I go bargain shopping and find a really cute pair of shorts that are on sale for $5 or less... and buy them two sizes too small. I can slip them on but not button up nicely. THEN I workout and eat right and after a few months I try them on and TADA they fit. It's the greatest feeling ever and if I was unable to fit them or didn't like them I didn't waste a lot of money. Also - I keep a picture of someone, celebrity or something from a magazine and imagine myself looking like that (I pick a realistic one though). It motivates me and just the power of the mind makes you feel better. |

Last time I checked Walmart sold all sizes. But seriously - I see those miniature sizes (00-04) and I have friends who are naturally that thin. But they carry larger sizes (up to 13) too. I used to work in retail and stores get shipments tha include ALL sizes, with extra pants in sizes 5-10 because they are the most popular. Since your short I would say go to a superstore and buy some your size and get them hemmed, or pay the extra to go to a petite store where the length of the clothing fits you. It's better than being too tall. I'm 5'7" and often the average pair of pants are too short for me unless I get the higher end stuff... and I'm not even that tall! PS I am guilty of shopping at Walmart. I love it. |

Well thank you! I'm weighing myself today so we'll see if there is anything new since Monday... I doubt it because I've been less careful (but not over eating). I'm still so stumped as to why my weight loss isn't working as well this time but again - I have to remember I am smaller then the last two times I lost weight AND I'm starting at what was my plateau both times. Hopefully this time nothing will get in my way and I can reach my goal weight. If you find anything that helps you out please share them with me! I think right now I need to kick more carbs out to get the ball rolling... |

Thanks Amthystgirl... I wasn't expecting a crazy fast weight loss BUT when I first dieted I was bigger so probably it just seems a lot slower in retrospect. I feel good with what I'm eating right now... maybe I'll throw in a few more raw fruits and veg a day but I gues it's just more and more patience... the key ingredient to weight loss perhaps?? haha/ also -I know I've gained muscle but muscle won't make that much a difference on the scale. I know I have a LOT to gain back but still. I'm more toned but my clothes are still pretty much fitting the same! Thanks again. |

It takes me a few months to start to notice the weight loss. Frustrating at first but when it happens it's the best feeling ever. You will certianly notice yourself getting more toned and have a lot more enegry... but your pant size might take a bit longer to join the club. |

I'm 5'7"... in High School I weighed 135lbs and was trying to lose weight! (obviously never did haha I look back and even though I had a tummy I was thin). Now I am 24 and weigh 159lbs. I was down to 152 a few months ago but due to an accident I was bed ridden and gained some back... trying to lose again. I'd like to get back to it (135) and think I can... I was on a great weight loss plan before I was hurt and think that by summer I can do it. |
