YES!!! I am now 56. When I went through menopause I was about the same age as you (apparently you may go through it earlier if you have had your tubes tied (which I had). It was pure hell. I knew I was being oversensitive to everything everybody said but I couldn't stop myself. I even accused my husband (who is the best!!!) of patronizing me when he took some very burnt toast out of the toaster (when I had set it too high because I was sick of waiting for it) and replaced it with new bread so I would not have to wait for breakfast. How unreasonable is that. I also had hot flashes and the works and I was constantly tired and achy. The whole weight thing was a pain. SO... it gets worse before it is better, but you do get through it. I didn't take any medication and I still would make that choice but I think I would investigate beneficial foods and natural supplements a lot more. Just hope like hell you have a patient family (because it really is you when things seem to be conspiring against you). Good luck!!!..... oh and don't tell the doctor it is all his fault - he'll just laugh like mine did. |

| Foods | Wedding Meal??? | Aug 03 2008 05:13 (UTC) |

Why not do something super-easy but very filling like jacket baked potatoes with all the trimmings. They can be partly cooked, tossed into a big baking dish and finished off during the ceremony, and then you just serve sour cream (lite), l/f grated cheese and homemade coleslaw (without a dressing). Our very extended family all love me doing this at celebrations, and if I want to cater to the carnivores I cook a big piece of roast beef to go with it. Another possibility is home-made pizzas. I know you are talking about a wedding but it is possible to make a very upmarket pizza for not too much money, and everyone loves them - even the healthy ones! It is very hard to be economical at big celebrations but it is possible - my husband and I fed 100+ people at our wedding for $300 (Australian) - not counting the alcohol of course. Good luck anyway - although it is extra work the home catering thing definitely saves money plus everybody always loves the food. Have a wonderful wedding |

| Fitness | How does the Activity section of the site work? | Jul 27 2008 02:05 (UTC) |

I hope this helps. The little number on the burn meter is your projected burned calories for the day. The big number is what you have burned so far in a day so as the day passes the number changes. The little number can also change. It is your 'base burn number' - the number of calories you will burn in a day at the activity level you have set. However if you add extra activities it will change. For example if you go on an hour walk the number will change by the number of calories you would burn by walking that far but minus the number of calories you would have burned just sitting around. Good luck! |

I'm a grandma and I am very overweight. Neither my family or myself mind what I look like, I am fairly healthy - no diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure - and I love food. BUT I want to go hang gliding and on the big rides at an adventure park with my grandchildren. Since I can't see me doing that at the weight I am I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and accept that I have to lose weight. I've got 15 months until we all go on the BIG holiday so I've got my work cut out for me - especially as exercise is hard because I have a crippled leg. But I WILL succeed. So that is my motivation - I want to behave like a kid!!!! |

| Weight Loss | How much do u think u ate before u started counting | Jun 24 2008 11:17 (UTC) |

partly it is because the more you weigh the more you can eat just to maintain, but i also think it is that we might think we are sedentary but really we aren't. as an example i logged the whole of my 'normal' day today for the first time - i usually just assume i am sedentary. by 2 in the afternoon i had already burned 5620 calories - and i have done a lot more since then. So obviously to get to the weight i am now i ate humungous numbers of calories. in one way it is good because it means even with a decent calorie intake i am losing weight at a reasonable level but on the other hand sometimes i go to bed starving. thank goodness it is getting better as my body adjusts! but what happens when i am at my desired weight and still doing all that work (I have full time care of two aged and disabled relatives and am myself disabled). I just wish i could do more 'normal' exercise - i am totally incapable of using any gym equipment even if i had access to it. i guess as long as i keep making progress it doesn't matter - and logging today's activity sure was an eyeopener! |

I'm in Australia (Victoria) and this week paid the equivalent of $5.85 a gallon (American) - I just converted everything to work it out. |

| Calorie Count | Wish CC could do this (Maybe it can and I just don't know it) | Jun 11 2008 04:13 (UTC) |

just put all the salad (or whatever) ingredients in as a 'new recipe' (look under the foods tag at the top). Although strictly speaking it is not a recipe cc counts it as one and you get the analysis - it is much easier than the other way. Good luck |

| Weight Loss | When do you weigh yourself? | Jun 04 2008 11:31 (UTC) |

Last day of the month, first thing in the morning. The whole weigh-in thing is anathema to me but I know it gives me a valid comparison so I endure it. |

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
