Take your time and stick with it. You've described all the reasons that I'm an eater, too. I've bounced back and forth with weight loss and I don't want to screw up this time. Stick with it and good luck - you know what to do - this site seems to be a great place to get support. Hang in there |

Here's a thought? How much water are you drinking? When I drink a lot of water - (80 oz per day - I weigh 208 now, down 14 since I started) - I stay full and I use the bathroom constantly. It helps with the boredom and keeps my mind off food. Its a weird strategy but its working. Good luck |

I think it absolutely awesome that you are supporting him so much. He's a very lucky guy. Has he used this site, himself? How is he counting? It amazes me how easy it is to miscalculate calories if you miss something little (hard candies, butter used to cook with, salad dressing quantities) I wish him nothing but the best and I congratulate you for being a tremendously supportive wife. |

| Weight Loss | Stupid question, how does beer affect weight loss? | Jun 27 2008 13:09 (UTC) |

I went through a similar process last weekend (schedIuling calories and a night on the town) - I did two things. I ate a solid breakfast with oatmeal and fruit - I drank a lot of water through the day - I had a quick egg-beater spinach omelette at lunch and then 1/2 portion of pasta and a lot of salad at dinner. I determined that I would drink a higher-end beer (I drank New Castle's and then Leinenkugels. It was about 900 calories over my average (not my max). The next morning I got up and ran a good 2.5 miles of sweat off and I got back on the health-train. I didn't gain and ounce and it turned out I kept losing weight over the next few days. Don't sweat it. Check that - do sweat it - a good workout the next morning will keep ya honest. Have fun, Cheers

It's great that you feel that way. I've just been using this site for a short term. I haven't quite gotten to the joy part of eating healthy. I'd love to feel the same way that you do. Way to be |

| Weight Loss | Anyone else a grouchy bastard? | Jun 25 2008 02:03 (UTC) |

I'm at the same point - 1 week of detailed calorie counting - I'm staying within my limit. Exercise each morning helps - but by the end of the day - I'm a grouchy bastard, too. If its not grouchy - its a sadness or shame. I'm just down. I refuse to quit. This post has helped me realize that I'm not alone with this feeling. Hopefully it will change as the weight comes off. |

I'm from the "good" side of the state :) where "read up" and "pop" are the standard. I also graduated from PSU, where it all melted together. I spent ten years after school, living in New England - and I made the move back home a few years ago, bringing my wife (native of New England) and daughter with me. This is a great place to live and raise a family - but its not easy to be healthy here. There are a lot of dietary tempations. I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else |

| Motivation | Feeling Down | Jun 20 2008 15:16 (UTC) |

I've never been successful at weight loss - so I feel a little sketchy giving advice - but - don't stay too down on yourself. Easier said than done - but its not getting down - its getting back up that will be the key to success. Don't sweat what happened. Try to figure out what the trigger was and how else you could respond. Also - clear out the foods that will be consumed in future instances. Finally, have a good strategy going in to the "hamburger" fest. Drink water and eat high fiber in the morning before you go. Try to stay full and busy.
Good luck - it'll be OK |

| Weight Loss | How to I get more protein in my diet with out more fat and carbs? | Jun 18 2008 20:31 (UTC) |

There is an Egg Substitute product by the same folks that make "Better than Eggs" - it maxes protein and minimizes calories. I also use a cheap whey protein powder that I use to make shakes, with berries and ricotta cheese. Protein out the wazzoo |

You guys have been awesome. I really appreciate the support. It's hard to believe that getting positive support on a message board - can mean so much. I've put in a few good days - and I know that I'm going to need the community's support moving forward - so thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to supporting other's the same way. Again, all of your comments have meant a lot more to me that I would have imagined |

| Motivation | Do not understand why I can not stop eating! | Jun 17 2008 18:28 (UTC) |

I think I've been in the same boat. I've been successful when I've tracked my calories (when I bite it - I write it) - when I stay consistent with this practice - I tend to think before I eat. I've discovered similarly to yourself, that I eat when I'm happy to celebrate, I eat when I'm pissed to compensate and I eat when I'm scared to comfort. I discovered that I most of the time - I eat when I'm BORED to give myself something to do. This one is tough to overcome - but by recording my calories - I think - instead of just habitually eating. Inconsistency is the only barrier to success when using this practice |

| Motivation | Eating when bored!!!!! Stop the madness!! | Jun 16 2008 22:49 (UTC) |

I also eat when I'm bored. It's a most dangerous trait - because I'm bored beyond belief at work. I don't really have a role and I'm going crazy - but they keep paying me - so I stay.
Good luck |

I'm just starting out in earnest on my weight-loss, appearance improvement, energy increasing program - but I understand enough that this sort of thing happens. Don't sweat it - you've done a great job - get back on your horse and ride to the finish |

You guys have been great - what an excellent community. I'm just hitting it and hopefully I'll learn to love exercise. I can't picture that now. I'm just doing it. I know that I need to gain confidence and with that esteem. I know this is my problem not hers and I appreciate her honesty. At this point I know I can lose the weight - I have full faith in that - I just can't comprehend the described feelings of satisfaction that come with being healthy. I just don't see it right now - but I'm definitely going to battle. Thanks to all |
