I understand everything you've said and am fully aware of the myth of spot burning; perhaps I've phrased my question poorly:

Will lunges and squats build more muscle than I already have, or do they help streamline my thighs? Are lunges and squats essential for a lower body workout given the fact that I am already relatively muscular and am simply looking to loose excess fat with cardio such as the running I mentioned?
