Fish, Eating too little is just as bad as not dieting at all. If you are not taking in enough calories your body goes into "starvation mode". This makes your body hold onto and store fat and calories at an elevated rate. Your best bet is to stick around 1800-2000 for a week or two and test it out. Still on a plateau then go to 2100 or 2200. At your young age and high activity level 2000+ calories should not be a problem. Good luck, |

Like everyone else has said it is best to have a professional analyze your gait and running style. But I cant tell enough how much I love my new Saucony Paramounts! they are the best shoes I have ever worn! I am a large runner, 6'1 208lbs, and since I have gotten the shoes I have not had shin splints, calve pain, knee pain, or stride issues. They are really great shoes... just a little pricey...$165...ouch. |

| Fitness | Interval Running | Apr 29 2008 07:48 (UTC) |

I started a great running routine 3 weeks ago and it seems to be working very well. I alternate days between long distance running 5+ miles at a 8:45 minute mile pace and interval sprints. I do the sprints on a treadmill to make it easier to monitor my pace. I am doing 1 minute at 3.7mph walk and 1 minute at 10mph sprint. I started at 20 minutes and I am now up to 30 minutes. It is working very well. The mix between long distance and sprints fluctuates my heart rate and seems to be accelerating my metabolism and weight loss. Good luck to you. Hope the insight helps. |

| Foods | Question about cottage cheese | Apr 29 2008 07:44 (UTC) |

Just a side note as well: cottage cheese is one of the best foods to eat for weight loss (high protein low carbs). I eat 2 cups a day along with egg whites and tuna. I can agree with you that the texture is kinda iffy but the nutritional benifits of eating it are worth it. If all else fails do what i do.... put hot sauce on it! Hot sauce (franks red hot) makes everything taste good! Lol.. |

| Weight Loss | Using CC burn meter to control deficit | Apr 29 2008 07:33 (UTC) |

I was wondering the same thing. I am using this site to monitor my calorie intake, obviously, and I am very interested as to the burn meter (specifically its accuracy). I lost 132lbs from mid 2004 until early 2006 (naturally without any surgery) and I never knew about the "1000 calorie deficit". All I try to do is keep my calories under 2000, i am a 6'1 208lb male, and my carbs low. This combination work and seems to continue to work for me. I also workout quite a bit 6 days a week combination of running (5 days) weightlifting (2 days) bootcamp type workout (1 day) and mixed martial arts (2 days). I have been told that not eating enough when working out alot is just as bad as being sediantary and eating too much because your body goes into fat storing sarvation mode. This could be the logic behind the 1000 calorie deficit. I am eager to see others insight into this aspect of this website. |
