| Fitness | Thin legs/thighs? | Jun 06 2008 17:16 (UTC) |

hey-first, i think that biking can make your thighs more muscular and thus, they might appear larger. So, I personally wouldnt bike too much otherwise you could get "bigger" thighs (really just more muscle). If you go to a gym, they have machines that target your inner thighs, etc. Just do it on a comfortable weight and a lot of reps and you will tone rather than gain too much muscle. This is just my opinion if anyone knows better please share. |

jrise-i also am an avid runner and I agree with what many of you all are saying about intervals. if you want to get the mileage in and still do interval work try this: 2 mi warm up and 2 mi cool down with a 4 mile or 3 mile workout on the track (sprinting perhaps 400-800-1200-800-400 type pattern). This will also help you with marathon training and it will def add muscle to your body! |

Hey- really easy but pretty hairstyle is just a low pony off to the side. Then, take a curling iron and make a few thicker wavy-curls. My best friend got this done for prom last year but it doesnt look hard to do and she looked great. maybe try that and see if you like the way it looks with your dress. Have fun :) |

I agree with vytagechick. why dont you focus on eating lean proteins and multigrains while doing toning exercises. Pilates are a good suggestion (vyntagechick) and if you incorporate a little cardio (20-30 mins) your body composition can totally reverse and you can look, feel and be strong and toned. You just have to eat enough and eat the right foods! Try a pilates DVD for some exercises or sign up for a class. Good luck. |

my mom is usually healthy, although eats a lot of white (e.g. bagels). But overall she has good habits. Although, she really has no conception of calories and doesnt care about her weight (not tht she has to shes 5'3 and 103 lbs..so small!). My dad is overweight, he eats irregularly because he has a very very demanding job with long hours and he travels a lot. He tries, but cavess in often. My sister-well she eats A LOT and W/E she wants. Not healthy at all and kinda of nonsupporting of the way I try to be healthy. |

Do the flavored coffees (vanilla bean, etc) have anything added that makes coffee have more calories--I dont really drink coffee, but I was just wondering. |

First off--good luck on your exams! I know how you feel. I always feel guilty during exam time when I do not have energy or time to workout. A lot of times I will be like, if Im only going to do just a bit, is it even worth it? But it is. Like you said, a little bit of exercising makes you feel a lot better. I would say go out for a short jog in the AM or for a study break (lke half of what you normally do). This will not take a lot of time out of your day and you reap the benefits of exercising (clears your mind, fresh air, etc). Also, you can go on a stationary bike and read some of your notes while you bike. (I find doing this on a treadmill is kind of hard). If you honestly cannot fit anything in, think of this week (or 2 weeks) as your rest up week. Your body probably needs to recover a little bit since you work out 60-90 mins everyday. I run for my college and during exam time (if we are done with our season) we are usually told to take off or just do light running or cross training. Try not to feel to guilty! hope this helps! |

| Health & Support | Anybody else with eczema/psoriasis/skin problems? | May 10 2008 18:57 (UTC) |

I dont have any of those problems but my father has psoriasis. He uses creams and also salt water does wonders. He looooves goig in the ocean because it soothes the patches on his skin and also makes them fade a bit..good thing summer is coming! He also uses tar shampoo on his head for the patches that are under his hair.. he manages it pretty well..just have to be diligent. Oh, and he doesnt have a special diet..but maybe that will work? |

My favorite salad might seem pretty simple, but it tastes good and I think that it is low in calories, high in nutrition. I like to mix dark leafy greens with a little iceberg (love that crunch) THen I top it off with carrots, red pepper (or green, which I believe has more nutrients), tomatoes, cucumbers... (the veggies are your choice)..etc.. Next I put some low sodium cheese on it (muenster)--only like 2 slices, so you get the illusion that you are eating more cheese than you really are. OR if I am eating this for dinner I add red snapper on top of my salad. And the ultimate dressing for low cal eaters = balsamic vinegar (not vinegarette)

I understand your predicament. Basically, what I would do is walk everywhere you can, and take small portions..eat slowly so that the food lasts a long time on your plate and you wont be forced to have second and third helpings. But again have fun! Im jealous your in Paris! |

But since Im a worrier, I went to the ER (it was a sunday, docs werent open) and turns out I had to get emergency surgery for appendicitis...and i really wasnt in much pain-onl when i stretched or pushed on my side really hard. So just be vigilant. |

| Weight Loss | My problem is snacking.... | May 08 2008 17:59 (UTC) |

for salt cravings go for popcorn. Also, ever hear of spray butter? It is like either 0 cals or very few cals and it tastes good-you can spray it on basically anything to create that salty, buttery taste. Another suggestion is to snack on fruit snacks. These packets I have are only 80 cals and they are like eating candy! The brand is sunkissed. hope this helps! |

| Fitness | When taking a day off from working out... | May 08 2008 17:52 (UTC) |

I HATE taking days off. Basically all I do is run between 6 and 9 miles everyday. I have track workouts that are interspersed in there about 2-3 days a week, so sometimes those go over 9 miles long (with warm up and cool down). I think if you feel ok then you can workout everyday, but maybe take one day lighter than usual..kind of as a relaxed day? That is something I am probably going to try to do. |

| Weight Loss | General bikini question (for both guys and girls) | May 03 2008 01:09 (UTC) |
15 |
My take on this is that a lot of people do scrutinize others for the smallest things. I mean, I know that I dont need to lose weight, but I dont have a good body, and even with having a good weight I dont feel comfortable in a bikini. So to be honest-yes, people do scrutinize. Its up to the individual to decide if she/he is confident and satisfied with her/himself or if she/he cares about what other people say. |

| Health & Support | Why does drinking a lot of water help bloating? | May 02 2008 23:32 (UTC) |

thanks so much! well actually today im not bloated b/c i ate too much--i think it is what i am eating- i had a lot of processed foods-balance bar, soy crisps, stacys pita chips = gross. I hate when I do this! Its just I am in the library all day/night studying for finals next week. I did run this morning, though.
Btw- are balance bars, despite the fact that they are processed food, okay to eat? Or are they always going to make me feel bloated- any opinions? |

hey-just from my experience (i run for my college), I know that I usually feel better when I let my body rest aka taking off for a day. While in my opinion taking off more than a day could be counterproductive, I think the rest probably gave you more strength and energy. It also allowed your body to recover. Im sure strength training impacts your body a lot! |

My sister and friend are both on yaz..each gained weight initially--my sister lost it, my friend didnt. But my friend is 5'1 and before the pill was lke 91 lbs, so she prob just gained b/c she needed to..and she still looks great! Yaz, from what I know, has a lower hormone dosage so it doesnt affect your mood as much, but dont quote me. Whenever I research medications, I ALWAYS find such scary reviews-- ask your gyno about all the different ones b/c they know all about the side effects. |

i find that when I come home from school I end up eating a lot more. I just want to get in all my *favorites* that I do not have at school. But like you, i always feel guilty afterwards, and upset. I also feel like i gained weight at the drop of a pin. i really really understand where you are coming from. I am going to be working this summer so hopefully that will keep me out of the fridge haha. Maybe you can get out of the house during the day so you arent tempted by the junk foods? BUT- dont worry about your slip ups. They will happen, not just once, and they happen to everyone! So try to shake it off. Write down how you feel and re-read it and maybe that will motivate you not to revert back to the binge. |

I recommend a running watch--one with a timer and everything. I use timex ironman triatholon, 40$. I wear it everyday, in the shower, to bed, you name-- I definitely get my money's worth. |
