Metabolife is kinda what I was on too. Oh, I did PhenPhen too when I was 17. I went 4 days only eating a banana. My mom was on it too, and one night, neither of us could sleep. I was so jittery I could have picked up the house and moved it on my own! We ended up painting the kitchen red that night... my dad kept begging us to just sleep, cause the smell of the paint was keeping him up... but we couldn't stop. And I know the feeling of the sad little boobies after losing weight. I lost like 145 lbs... went from a 48DD to a 36B. And I swear, I could wear a training bra, but there's too much skin left (plus, they don't make pushup training bras!). My poor thighs suffered too... same saggy skin. There have been days I thought about breaking out the duct tape to make things look normal! :oD

I love small boobies!  I would be ecstatic with Cs or Bs, but I don't want them to look like National Geographic boobies (if ya know what I mean).  Stupid unhealthy weight obsession!

I'm a little too young for Phenphen, but I'm sure I would have tried it.  I pretty much tried everything before I broke down with diet and exercise.  It truly is the only way to do it.

Metabolife!  Both sides of my Family have history of heart problems (my Dad died of a heart issue) and my resting pulse rate is pretty high to begin with.  Despite this, I started taking Metabolife at 16.  This is the first version that was basically just an ephedra pill (Metabolife 356, I believe).  It would make my heart race to an incredible speed, i would get the jitters and I literally couldn't not sit still. I was also very mean when I took these pills.  I would seriously go into rages.  Very scary stuff.

I took it on and off for a few years, alternately losing and gaining 20 lbs.  I finally stopped my sophmore year of college when they wouldn't let me give blood and the Blood Drive nurses were concerned.

Because of the rapid weight-loss and gains, I am 25 years old with very saggy breasts.  You can see how stretched the skin is and I don't believer there is anything I can do to fix it short of surgery.  Even then, it won't help much.  I still get jitters and headaches from caffiene and I'm a wee bit concerned that my health will be affected down the road because of this abuse (I was basically taking Speed).  Bad bad bad...

Now I've lost 30 lbs the healthy way and i look great (well, outside the super saggy tatas).

Fad diets don't work!

I once lost 20 lbs and got to my lowest weight ever (in the normal range!  Woo!).  I felt wonderful.  Most of my medical problems went away and I just had so much energy and confidence.

Then I gained 50 lbs and I've decided it's time to get rid of that 50 plus a little extra! Woo!

Some of you will remember that a fluffy white stray cat showed up in our backyard in June. Since one ear was badly injured (scabbed), I took her to the vet and after extensive/expensive exam/tests, they determined she had some sort of fungal infection. We had her tested for FIV/Felv (negative), checked for a microchip (none), given an antibiotic shot, and vaccinated for rabies. I also placed ads in the paper and on Craigslist and with local pet groups, trying to find her owners. (I suspect she was abandoned for getting sick --- her coat still shows signs that she used to wear a collar.) Fast forward 2 months to now ... her ear looked worse -- so we took her in today (Saturday) to a different vet.

Marsha has cancer.

Specifically, feline squamous cell carcinoma on both ears -- which is sadly fairly common for outdoor white cats. She also has fleas and tapeworms. After a lot of discussions and looking at our budget, we've decided to try surgery to save her life, and to make her an inside-only cat since further sun exposure will just cause more cancer. We're also having her treated for the fleas and tapeworms, and will get her all of the rest of her vaccinations when she's healthy enough. For the next 72 hours she's living in our guest bathroom (until all those pesky fleas die -- it's all tile in there), then after her surgery we're moving her into our office ... complete with shaded window ledge, cat condo, futon, desks, shelves, and her own litter box, food and water -- plus a cat door so she can SEE the other cats in the house while still remaining isolated. Our eventual hope is to get her mainstreamed into the whole house if everyone can get along. (There's been much growling and hissing through the bathroom door.)

Her surgery is Tuesday (she gets both ears amputated ... poor thing). Please keep her in your thoughts / prayers. This cancer is not "curable", but if the surgery can successfully get all the cancer, she could live for years.

MARSHA

The first cat that I can remember having was Cindy.  She was a fluffy white and black cat.  She ran away from her abusive home and came to live with us.  When out cousins (the abusers) came to visit and saw her we just lied and says it was a different cat.  Heh.  Cindy was a sweetie pie.

She got ear cancer.  It wasn't bad in the beginning, but we couldn't afford the surgery to have it fixed and Cindy didn't seem to be in pain or mind her ears being wonky.  By the end, she almost had no ears.  I have incredible guilt for not taking her to be euthanized early.  My mom as well.  We just don't talk about it.  Cindy was happy for the most part, she just had very sad ears.  I don't know why I am "confessing" this to a mega-kitty-lover.  I just felt like sharing Cindy's story.  I do always warn anyone who has a white-eared cat about the possibility of ear cancer.  It sounds weird, but its more common than you think.

Good luck to Marsha.  Im sure she will be a very happy and blessed kitty.

Fitness Wii Fit...Will it work?? Sep 02 2008

8

I've been doing Wii Fit since it first came out.  I think it's been 90 days (my wii board is very impressed with me!).  It's definitely a great tool for exercising.  I started out just using Wii Fit, but recently I have been motivated to bike to work, walk at lunch, and now I have ankle weights and free weights to use while I do "free step".  It was a good starting point and it's very simple to do for people who don't have tons of time or can't afford a gym membership.

If you are just going to use it every once in awhile, then it probably won't work.  But if you establish a routine and really work it, then I think it's definitely helpful.

I also hate my trainer (on the Wii).  Every time she tells me "your leg is a little shaky" I just want to throw something at the TV (and then I wobble even more).  I call her bad names.  I think I have anger issues.  The DH just laughs at me.  Embarassed

Twenty-four days. In just 24 short days, my wonderful DH leaves again for his FIFTH tour of flying the not-so-friendly skies over Iraq with the USAF. For those of you keeping track, yes he did JUST get back in July ... and now he's heading over again for another three months. He called me from work just a few minutes ago -- to let me know that he'll be replacing another pilot who is unable to go for the Fall Deployment. I know I am being selfish -- but he just got home and I don't want him to leave again for month, ya know? I wanted to go biking with him this fall. I wanted to go to the County Fair with him this fall. I wanted to go to the coast with him this fall. We had plans. We had things on our calendar. We had hopes and dreams for enjoying cooler weather. Heck, I am STILL waiting for the military to pay us everything they owe us from his LAST deployment!!!

(sigh)

AH Molly.  I'm so sorry.  So so sorry.  I will have you and your DH in my thoughts and prayers.  Your DH is such a hero.  They are all.  God Speed.

Height:  5'7"

Age: 25

CW:  172

Goal Weight: 135

I eat 1200-1400 calories a day depending on how much I exercise.  I do Wii Fit every morning and try to do 30 minutes of DDR, 30 minutes of light step, or bike to and from work as well.  I am like most people.  I still eat what I did before, I just eat less of it.  I have also introduced new, healthy foods to my diet so in the end, I eat more things than I did when I started.  My philosophy is "one day at a time".  If you fall off the wagon, you just get right back on.

Good luck!

Motivation Gaining instead of loosing.... AAARRRGGGHHH!! Aug 25 2008

I had this problem last week.  The previous week I had lost 4lbs but then the following week (last week) I ended up gaining 3 of it back.  I think it was a combo of not eating enough two weeks ago and then suddenly eating correctly again AND I actually added in a lot more exercise (i.e. walking and riding my bike to work).  However, after 3 days of straight gaining (and many tears) I started losing at a much more normal pace.

Just stick it out.  Everything will normalize eventually.

I know your pain suji! Eight weeks of careful eating, losing a pound a week and feeling good about it. Then a few days of not so great and it bounce up several pounds! I'm not talking pigging out, either, just a couple of hundred over what should be deficit. Heck, it makes me wonder: WHEN I reach my goal, how the heck can I maintain?? I suppose it's a matter of water weight but my scale has been uncharacteristically even this week. It IS discouraging!

That's pretty much the same for me.  I KNOW I've been ok, not great but I certaintly haven't eaten 10500 calories over my burn in the past 3 days.  So I KNOW it will pass...but it's just disheartening.

yup, get on like on a horse (on the plus side, boy bikes are easier to carry on your shoulder if you have to!)

as for part two, make sure you get there early and if you have room in your desk for the following, it would be helpful for sure: spectro gel (a soap free face wash): wash your face with that when you get it. also: a towel (duh...), some make-up if you require it. and you can dry your hair a little with the hand dryer, but yes, your hair will have to be up until it's too cold/snowy to bike (although i live in montreal and there are some toopers out there in the snow, so if you live in a warmer climate, get some good biking clotehs and you can do it all yr: good for ur body and the planet!). you can experiment with cool updos tho...

Good advice on the face wash.  I didn't bring a towel (I used my shirt, ewwww!) but I will definitely bring one next time.  There are no hand-dryers in the bathroom, I have no idea why.  Just papertowels which I used to pat my hair.

I guess this will be good incentive to learn how to put my hair up in things besides a ponytail!

My scale has gone UP the past three days!  I have "gained" 3 pounds in the last three days and I don't know why.  I haven't been eating healthy foods, but I make sure to stay under my limit AND I've been exercising.  But it keeps going up, up, up.  It's very disheartening.  Today I didn't work out because I just wanted to cry when I saw that it went up AGAIN.  It's very frustrating and my usually supportive DH only says "well, we haven't been eating very good lately" and it just makes it worse.  Boo...

I've been doing DDR for about a month or so.  It's a good light workout.  I have added DDR, Wii Fit (I do DDR with the PS2 and Wii Fit with the Wii), and it's definitely helping.  I don't know how much they are individually helping, but it's a great combo.  Wii Fit in the mornings and DDR in the evenings.

Be aware, you aren't going to start doing the "heavy" mode anytime soon if you haven't played before. Definitely do the tutorial.  I'm still on Light mode and some of the songs just kill me.  Of course, I am seriously uncoordinated and I don't play DDR religiously.  Just don't be disappointed if you have to start slowly.  It takes time to get used to.

Good luck!

Oh, I am playing with a crappy $7 pad I got from the internet and it's doing just fine.  It slides around on my carpet, but I just pretend that adds a degree of difficulty.   ^_^

I apologize for my harsh tone.  I would be lying if I said I wasn't projecting my own issues on to your situation.  However, I was frustrated by the way you seemed to shoot down all the suggestions on how to motivate her in a positive manner.

But drchap does have a great suggestion as well.  Maybe leaving it alone is the best way to make her responsible for herself.

You know your situation better than I do and how your fiance will react.  You should do what you feel is best.  For the record, I never thought you were pushing her to lose weight.  I just have had similar comments made to me and it's always a little crushing.

Good luck to the both of you.

Not to harp...but I'm hearing a LOT of excuses from you on why you can't help her beyond saying mean things (and they are mean).  People have made excellent suggestions about how to exercise on a budget (both time AND money) and you have managed to shoot most of the down.  If it's REALLY important to you to help encourage your fiance in a positive manner, I would think you would MAKE time or put a little extra cash aside.  But if you just want validation for nagging your fiance, then this is probably not the best place for it.

Women aren't that complex.  She asked you to help her.  Your way of "helping" is not the only way.

Cheap suggestions:

  • Frisbee in the park
  • Throw a football in the park
  • Take a walk
  • Wii Fit may bore her (it's not really a game).  Maybe try something else like Wii Sports or DDR.  Those have a more "gamey" aspect to them and can be more fun.  You can also play WITH someone.
  • Take a class after work/on the weekends.  Dancing is always fun and if you have paid it's a good motivator to keep going.

Sorry to fuss, but I have had too many people try to "motivate" me by ripping on my self-esteem.  It's really counter-productive.  Good luck.

I went to a big nerd convention last weekend (Gencon in Indy for those playing at home).  I was really nervous about the con because I would be stuck eating not so healthy foods.  I made sure to workout every morning before the con and then we ended up walking soooo much.

I ended up losing 4 pounds (a good 2 of that is probably because my TOTM ended and I stopped retaining water)!  Yay me!  I was able to get my "thin clothes" box out of my closet and most of the stuff fit.  I dived from 16 into 12 size pants.  Woo!  Well, I have 14s as well.  But I'm pleased.  It's nice to be able to wear some of my cuter clothes again.

Also, I am 1 lb away from my halfway mark.  Scary!

I still get so excited after a BM, but usually only when it's a really BIG BM. Gross I know, but I always have to check to see what was deposited before I flush and if it's huge, I get excited and the first thing out of my mouth is "That's gonna take ALOT of weight off me!" LOL

What a disgusting subject but it's true. I HATE those toilets with the automatic flushes. I have yet to figure out how to get up and see before it flushes. Yell

What a disgusting obsession. I've learned from the doctor that most of the foods I eat are low residue so I don't go really regularly, but when I do go it's a doozy. And I love the scales the next day lol! So yeah, I STILL do the "poo poo dance" even at work.

Safiyah

Hah.  You totally have to look!  How else will you know whether or not to be excited.  I guess my obsession comes when I just have a small movement and I get a little disappointed.  "Hmm...maybe if I just sit here for a little longer my body will get motivated to go more".

I down a glass of metamucil every day and that has really helped me become more regular and have more exciting poos.  Maybe you should try!  It tastes like dirt though.  Blech...

I would be lying if I didn't admit to doing the poo dance every now and again.  You just feel so light and frisky.  Fortunately, I'm usually at work so I can't weight before and after to see the difference.  Heh.
