Grr, I just ate 5 little "fun size" packets of M&M's. Whoever brought those to the office should be killed. |

I'm still with you guys by the way! I will try to check in at lunch (in a couple hours) to give full reporting. Skipped alcohol over the weekend, which lately has been more frequent than it should. Starting to think I should get some points for that!! ;) |

Last week: 168 Yella - congrats on the loss! I've been thinking about signing up for a gym membership (or at least a class) as a motivator too. Amandief - how's the no-alcohol thing going? I went without on Fri, Sat, and Sun and feel really good. Of course, I also got extra sleep Saturday night - - the kids didn't wake me up until 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. Crazy!! (That's 3 hours later than I get up during the week.) Lynn & Cricket - love the reminder about getting the sexy back. I'm 10 pounds higher than where I was with you guys about six months ago, and I can really tell a difference in the bedroom too. Unexpected motivator of the week: my mom works at a Christian publishing house and gifted me a brand new study Bible they just published. I've been completely re-motivated in a number of ways to do things that are good for me, including working out and daily Bible study. Funny combo!! |

tryin2lose25 I'm so sorry to hear about your back!! Keeping you in my thoughts & prayers. Everyone - just popped in to say hello. ;-) I've been thinking of dropping alcohol for a little while. Seems like lately having 1-2 drinks in the evening is getting frequent. Think I'd like to cut it out for awhile, maybe 1-2 weeks, and cut out all the related calories too! Baseball playoffs usually present a challenge, but the way the Cardinals have been playing, maybe I won't have that "problem" much longer... |

Thanks! Having done both cardio and strength-training yesterday, I wonder how I'll accumulate those kind of points on a rest day. Uh, not very well thought out, was it? ;) I think I'll focus on the personal challenges: 5-a-day, go outside, litter busters, eat breakfast, reading, 8-a-day, and of course, set & meet a goal. I think the sleep, logging food, and staying within maintenance calorie level challenges are tougher for me personally, so today I'm going to try to build on yesterday's success by working on those first 8 challenges. I'm also going to try to go for a long walk, maybe one hour. Hopefully the rain stays away and I can go outside. If not, ugh, I might do the treadmill, but I don't know. Combine it with a book to knock out multiple challenges!! :) |

I'm so psyched -- I drank lots of water, did 15 min. strength training, did 30 min. elliptical, plus my usual 10 min. walk to/from work. Ate tons of veggies, although admittedly lots of excess calories too. Comes to about 25 points, so I'm going to set a goal to get 25 points each day this week, at least Monday thru Friday. I'll re-assess this weekend. Here's the official report: 8 x 8 oz of water (2 points each = 16 points) Oct. 5 total: 27 points And, that brings the monthly total to... 50 points, if I'm doing this correctly. [edit: 56 points] Until tomorrow! |

Thanks again for setting up this challenge! Here are my official estimates for the previous days this month: Thursday 2 x 8 oz of water (2 points each = 4 points) Oct. 1 total: 5 points Friday 2 x 8 oz of water (2 points each = 4 points) Oct. 2 total: 6 points Saturday 2 x 8 oz of water (2 points each = 4 points) Oct. 3 total: 6 points [edit: 12 points] Sunday 2 x 8 oz of water (2 points each = 4 points) Oct. 4 total: 6 points So... pre-challenge days are kinda lame. ;) Total 23 points. [edit: 29 points] But I'm going to fix that today!! Will post separately. |

Ladies! I'm here! I still exist! And I have my phone again. Yay! I finally stopped chickening out and stepped on the scale morning: 167 pounds. Ugh. 8 pounds up from my lowest. But, in other news, I drank 8 glasses of water, got on the elliptical for 30 minutes, and ate 5 servings of fruits and veggies today. So, all is not lost. Now I'm going to try for 15 min. of strength training. Check y'all later! |

Just for illustration . . . this afternoon my kids managed to spill my soda on my bedsheets, float goldfish crackers in the bathroom sink, smear soggy goldfish into the toilet lid cover, and drown my new Palm Pre into my soda tumbler. Not one of my best days as a mom. |

Cris -- so glad to hear things are on the upswing Lynn -- sounds ambitious but not bad. Although I might leave an open window somewhere for whatever -- go out, movie, stay in & watch TV, handle whatever unpredictable crisis arises, etc. You do have some open time for book/online, but it's pretty late in the day, and not much. But overall I really like the framework and balance. Nice! By the way, CONGRATS on the engagement! I'm so happy for you! I've had a totally CRAPOLA day... kids didn't nap ('nuf said). I fed them dinner right at 5 and put them to bed an hour later. Now it's almost 7 and I think it's peace at last (as in, thank God Almighty, peace at last). |

Happy birthday, Sarah! Amandie, my new phone is a Palm Pre. Truly fun. A bit of a splurge though -- hubby and I bought them as our anniversary gifts, instead of going out. As for the pumpkin bars, I'd be glad to get you the recipe. Can't do it at the moment though, will have to wait for evening. |

Lynn - coffee's on! Do you take cream and sugar? ;) Hmm, vegetables from the farmer's market. I ought to go tomorrow. Saturday morning in Soulard is truly one of my favorite things about this city. Green beans, red peppers, cauliflower and grapes... I could go for that. Maybe not the cauliflower. My favorite way to enjoy fruit is to wash & cut a few different fruits and toss into a plain fruit salad - no dressing or anything, just mixed fruit. Grapes, pineapple, apples, strawberries, etc. Make a large bowl then eat off it all week. Apples should be *awesome* right now. I should start stocking up. [Argh, I can hear my son awake, and it's not even 6am.] As soon as the weather gets colder I can bake apples and onions. Mmm. With some simple baked chicken or roast pork loin. Rosemary. Italian bread. [Hmm, he hasn't come downstairs yet. Wonder if he's actually taking himself to the bathroom without parental help??] Okay, none of this helps me plan my immediate grocery needs, since the weather here is still warm. Maybe I'll do another Mediterranean style dish with tomatoes, garlic, onions, bell peppers, and squash. Awesome way to get tons of veggies in. Then the usual cut carrots for snacking. Someone please make sure I cut the veggies tomorrow after I buy them??! :) [Alright, where is he going? Honestly! I need to go check it out, sorry guys...] What are you all doing this week to get some veggies in? |

I would love to visit the Mediterranean - from all sides, but particularly Spain, the Maghrib, Egypt, Israel. There is nowhere I would NOT like to see, but studying Arabic and Hebrew made me wish to see those places particularly. I've been all over the continental U.S., and short trips to Canada and Mexico, but I've never had the cash for overseas travel. A huge shame because there are places I could stay if I could just get there. Cricket - totally understand about hangin' with the hubby during any free time, I get that way a lot. (I also understand about holding off on a baby, although I'm less interested than my husband is... easy for him to get nostalgic about baby days... he wasn't the one pregnant/nursing...!) Lynn - one feature of the "smart" goals is to try to plan out the specifics of the day-to-day process for goals. For example, do you already have a regular time/date/space for your workouts? (Knowing you, probably.) Do you know what veggies you will buy or what breakfast you will keep around the house? Is there something that's preventing you from eating those things right now? Maybe you need something "grab and go" or versus something you prepare? Etc. Everyone -- have a fab day. :) |

Original Post by lynnhaslost: Lynn, thanks for the reminder about "smart" goals. my hubby is always saying that! usually I roll my eyes but he, and you, are right. Given the way things have been going in my life lately, I'm going to change my goals to be the following: (1) workout 2-3 times per week ... even if it's only 1 set of reps per each move: I think I'm going to try for M&W after work, and plan on oven-baked dinners those days. On Weds I will hopefully have a babysitter each week to do my "cardio" music practice. Other than that, cardio will be daily walks to/from Metro (20 mins) with occasional longer walks on weekends (60 mins). (2) check in with y'all 5 days a week ... even if it's super brief. I'm going to try grabbing my coffee and 15 minutes on the computer every morning while hubby showers. I want to add calorie goals but I will wait a little bit on that. I keep frustrating myself with them right now, and if I can return to working out and checking in with motivated, healthy-lifestyle people, then I know it will follow. |

woo-hoo I got a workout in today! came home, popped dinner in the oven, took the kids downstairs to watch a DVD, and did a fast mini workout, about 20 minutes. Later the babysitter came over so that hubby & I could go to music practice - he does choir and I get some time to myself to reunite with my flute. 60 minutes standing up playing nonstop... I call that a legit cardio workout. (I'm guessing so would anyone else who's played a wind instrument, especially a flute.) I'm so happy, yay! All is not lost. ;) |

Morning, everyone! Trying desperately to squeeze in a few minutes on the computer before the kids wake up. They're like zombies -- not really awake but blindly and deathly determined to get you. So apparently I'm starting TTOM -- um, okay. Had some changeup in schedule with stopping & restarting the pill, and can't believe it caught me by surprise, but I can adjust. If anything, I feel better about recent frustrations, hoping to retroactively assign all or most of that to PMS. Including food habits! Hopefully. I just can't seem to be satisfied with anything near the proper calorie intake lately. Will try to stock up on carrots etc. for mindless munching. But still nervous. I know it's possible to cross over to the "other side" to that place where healthy food tastes good and is satisfying, but right now I'm in the "bad place" where sugar tastes good, beer is refreshing, and whatever lunch I bring to work is too small. (Hmm... re-reading my post, it seems I'm ready for Halloween. |

Hey everyone - so sorry for being out of touch. I see I've missed 3 or 4 pages of posts, ack! Weigh in Monday was same as last week, blah. Need to eat healthier but struggling. Have been working out better though! Yesterday did 40 min w/double stroller to library, then 40 min back of course, which killed my legs & arms. In a good way. Plus earlier that day I did 40 min accumulated walking on my own. Life in general has been crazy - daughter had her 2nd birthday, plus holiday weekend of course, plus car shopping is finally ending and I *believe* we are driving the new vehicle home tonight. Whew! Add in negotiating for lower car insurance, homeowner's insurance, and increasing life insurance coverage for the fam, and it's been a whirlwind. But it's all good. I think! ;-) |

Okay, I'm back! Gotta be quick though . . . :) amandie - I love Greek yogurt, too, although I only buy occasionally. lofudge13 - great job on the 1st day of school! keep it up! lynn - I notice a little bit of discomfort from broccoli, not too much; I still eat it occasionally but not frequently. I like broccoli salad but usually a very hi-cal version unfortunately. Need to workout today, but need to take it easy -- still sore from Monday! Catch y'all later! |

Hey, everyone! Ate healthy yesterday during day then bombed @ night w/chips, salsa, margaritas!! Although for an entree I opted for a salad rather than fajitas. Silver lining. Cricket - sorry to hear the farmer's market was a bust. I am still enjoying some savory tomato bread I bought on Saturday at ours. Other than that we went mostly for the excursion, didn't really shop for food. Next weekend! Also, sounds like work thew some crazy stuff at you but as usual you managed to get on top it - great!! I meant to reply to everyone else too but I have an applicant on the phone... must go!

Good morning, everyone! Yes, what a storm was chatted up! I'm very sore today but in a good way. After mid-day strength training yesterday, I walked/pushed double stroller for 25-min walk in the evening (and 25 min back). Major hills, too, which is nice. Logged it as half "hiking uphill carrying 10-20 pounds" and half "hiking cross country". Ate well over my normal cal limit but given the strenuous activity I was okay with it. Plus the extra cals were in carbs like bread & olive oil rather than chocolate. Michael - I am on-again, off-again on trying to complete a degree from 10 years ago. Middle Eastern Studies. Pre-9/11/01, actually, the whole program has changed since I was there, understandably. I'm supposed to be writing papers but somehow that never happens. Not giving up yet, though. Angie - State Fair sounds like a blast. Splitting fair food w/hubby always a winner! Mmm, gyros... Amandie - For workout, I used a plan from SparkPeople. Old-fashioned things like crunches with a twist, wall pushups, leg lifts, lunges, etc. 20-min workout takes me about 30 until I get the hang of it again. Lynn - I think it's great that you planned ahead for your two 2000 calorie days. Better to budget for that in advance rather than toss it aside and end up consuming more like 2500 or 3000! Marissa - I agree with Lynn - I know it's scary when you pop back into a different tier, but it was only a pound, and given TTOM that's not bad at all. You'll get motivated again and back into the swing of things soon. Lynn had lots of suggestions re: food... I'm a carrots girl. When I sit in front of the computer or my books, I tend to eat mindlessly, so I grab carrots and go to town. (No dip.) Whatever you do, we're here to support you... I've only just come out of a downswing myself! Cricket - As always, love ya girl. You have a great lifestyle going, including your usual meals, so going without logging calories sounds totally reasonable to me! Have a great one, all! |
