I agree - we have all been there.  It is not the end of the world or your diet.  Now with all this talk I really want pizza!

The Lounge Grissom's Replacement on CSI Aug 07 2008

I love CSI!

Miami - I can't stand Caruso, the overacting, the poses, the sunglasses, the ridiculous statements he makes, everything.  I was so happy they got rid of the medical examiner, sometimes I think she tried to top Caruso in the ridiculous department.  I like Callie, I love Frank Tripp - he is such a no nonsense kind of guy, the rest of the cast I could take them or leave them.

NY - I love them all!

Vegas - I am so happy that got rid of Sara, her whininess used to irrate me to no end.  I LOVE all the other characters.  I am really going to miss Grissom, but I am witholding judgment on his replacement because there can never be another Grissom.  He is such a unique character, the only way for the show to survive is to bring in someone completely different and start fresh.

Just my 2 cents. Smile

Weight Loss Has anyone ever had friends or co-workers deliberately try to sabotage your diet? Aug 06 2008

I think this happens to a lot of us, some of it is unintentional but what you describe is down right mean.  Maybe it is a "guy thing".   I am assuming the group at the meeting was mostly men.  I don't think the same kind of group bullying would have happened if you were a women.  I think it makes them feel superior if they can "break" you,  "look at us we got the guy on the diet to eat a cookie aren't we the best!"

As far as your reference to the alcoholic and the gambler goes, I used to work in a bar where there was plenty of drinking and gambling and trust me lots of guys used to try and make their friends "fall off the wagon" just for fun.

Also, I do think some guys are very upset by change.  If you were always the guy who ate the wrong things then they could feel better about themselves when they ate unhealthily (don't know if that is a word) and now they miss that since you are eating better.

Congratulations on keeping your willpower and your weight loss so far!  Keep up the good work.  One way to help combat the saboters (although I love the fact that it irritated them when you didn't eat the cookie) is to take the cookie,  tell them you are stuffed and will eat it later and then dump it in the garbage on the way back to your desk.

Good Luck!

I agree it does include the activity.

But a way to help you keep track better, might be to set your activity level to sedetary and then add in your activity separately.  That will give you a more accurate way to know how many calories you burned.

Ok I don't get how women bigger than me wear a bikini and don't seem one bit self-conscious about it. So here are a few more reasons I've thought of, it being summer and swimsuit season, that may seem stupid but are there nonetheless!

OMG - I can't believe what some people wear!  I went to 6 Flags a couple of weeks ago and although I didn't even put my suit on we did spend a lot of time in the water park.  I was amazed at what I saw.  My husband (who is also 100+ pounds overweight) even commented on the things some people wear.  I was floored by some of the bathing suits these women had on.  It certainly made me feel less self-conscious, but there were women in bikinis that had no right to be.  I saw a women at the Y the other day in a bikini, she had to be a size 20+, granted she was evenly purportioned so she didn't look that bad but still I didn't know they made bikins that big.

I don't mean to be judgemental, I am happy for them that they are confident enough to wear what they want without worrying about what other people think.  I guess it all boils down to self image, some people can be rail thin and think they are fat and vice versa.

Foods Road trip snacks Jul 17 2008

I agree with all the above suggestions for food items.  I especially like pretzel sticks and even goldfish.  I have found that calorie-wise the baked chips aren't that much better than regular.  They only save 10 to 20 calories per serving.  Granted they are better in the fat department, but I would rather eat 55 goldfish instead of 10 baked potato chips.

I would like to add that it might be a good idea to split the larger bags into small ones to help with portion control.  I know if it were me, on a trip like that I tend to eat "mindlessly" without thinking about how much I am eating and before you know it the bag is gone.  This way you might be able to keep a better control of things and it will be easier to calculate just how much you are eating.

And be careful of the roadside fast food places.  I know when I am on a road trip like that food always "sounds" better.  Something I wouldn't normally eat, you know those "specials" that are piled high with calories and fat, sounds so good that I just have to have them.  I don't know what it is about road trips, whether it is a 4 hour trip to Cape Cod, 12 hour trip to SC or a 16 hour trip to IL, they always seem to end up as eat-a-thons.  No matter how I try and justify it, the end result is the same - too many calories + no activity = feeling guilty that I over did it.  I haven't been on a road trip since I began counting calories, but hopefully the next time I do go on one I will be armed with a little more knowledge and self control to do it the right way, like you are.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip!

Wow!  First congratulations!  Second right now I am where you started and it is such an inspiration to see that it can be done.  I had to laugh when I read the title, because the last message I posted was "20 down and 100 to go".  My highest weight was 249.5 and right now I am at about 226.

I am curious to know how long it took you and if you have any secrets to pass along?

Keep up the good work!

The smallest size I remember being is a size 12 (that was 15 years ago), which I was OK with, but I think I will be happy with a 10, but my dream size is an 8.

Weight Loss Anyone enter their food intake a day later? Jun 12 2008

It's funny, I saw this thread right after I finished entering all of my food from yesterday.  I usually try and enter it as I go along, but for some reason I never entered any of my food yesterday.  I think it was probably because I knew I wasn't eating right and didn't want to see it written out.    But I did enter it today for several reasons.  I think the biggest reason, is so I can see just how far off course I went and make the necessary corrections today to offset yesterday.  Plus, I know myself, if I say it is ok to not log in yesterday, then it will be ok to not log in that snack I just had, and it becomes a very dangerous slippery slope and before you know it I am not logging at all.  I wholeheartedly agree with what johan3a said, if I know I will be logging it in eventually I definitely think twice before I eat it.

I want to be able to go into any store and find clothes that fit.  I don't want to hate shopping anymore.  I want to wear pretty dresses - not tents.  I don't know that I will ever wear a bikini, but I would like to look good in a bathing suit.  I want to feel sexy and be a little more adventerous in the bedroom.  I want to be able to play sports with my 4 boys and be able to keep up with them as they get older.

Weight Loss Butter - Clarified vs regular Jun 04 2008

I don't think I would spread it on bread.  After you clarify it, it is basically butter oil.  If I wanted to do that I would use a nicely flavored olive oil.  I use clarified butter in cooking because it doesn't burn as fast as just melted butter, but my favorite place is  with steamed lobster or crab.

Are you sure she used real butter?  I'm not sure where you are from, but I know lots of people think margarine and butter are the same thing.  It drives me nuts when I go to the midwest and ask for butter and they give me "County Crock" and try to tell me that its butter.  I guess I am a butter "snob" - I want the real thing or nothing.

I was reading this last night at work (I got up to about page 10 before I had to go) and I do agree with a lot of what people were saying.  I apologize if I am repeating but here are mine, in no particular order.

1.  I want to have a lap for my kids to sit on.  Right now my stomach takes up so much space on my thighs when I sit I have no where for my kids to sit comfortably.

2.  I want my mother off my back for the first time in 30 years.

3.  I want to be thinner than my mother and sister for the first time in my life.

4.  I want to be able to use the towels they give me at the gym instead of bringing in my own beach towel because they other ones don't fit all the way around.

5.  I want to not feel self conscious when I am in the locker room at the gym.  I want to be able to take a sauna or steam without offending everyone in there with my body.

6.  I want to be able to take a shower and not have to "lift up" my stomach to wash.

7.  I want to motivate my husband to lose weight.

8.  I want to be able to work in my bosses new restaurant (due to open next year) and not worry about bumping into people with my stomach or butt while they are trying to eat.

9.  I want to flirt and have someone flirt back, but not out of pity.

10.  I want to own a bra that fits.  I am like a 40A and I can never find one in the stores that fit, so I have to get one that is too small and have it dig into me until I can break it in or get one that has a cup that is way too big.  Either way it is uncomfortable and looks ridiculous.

11.  I want my stomach to be smaller than my boobs.  Probably never going to happen, but I can dream.

12.  I want to be a MILF!

13.  I want my children to not be embarrased by me.  Thats not entirely true, I like embarrasing them but I don't want it to be because of the way I look.

14.  I want the kids in my son's class to stop asking me "do you have a baby in there?".  I know they are not trying to be mean, but I hate disappointing them when I tell them no.

15.  I want my body to match the way I feel.  In my head I am 27 and 150.  (Currently 38 & 234).  Actually I don't care about the age, to me the age doesn't matter, it is the weight that is the problem.

Sorry for rambling, but I have been thinking about this since last night and it feels good to "get it out".

Thanks for listening.

Get the chocolate mints out of the house!  Out of sight out of mind.

When you are making the "home baked cookies" try and find some recipes that are healthier and lower in calories, that way if you indulge a little it won't be as bad, plus it will be better for your kids too.  I wish I could give you some ideas, but I'm at work right now and don't have access to my cookbooks, but there are plenty of recipes out there for healthier cookies.

You can't deprive yourself completely otherwise when you do give in you will most likely go way overboard.  I know thats how I am.
