Maintaining Once in maintenance mode, do you still count calories? Jul 01 2009

I have been writing everything down for 1 1/2 years now.  I have been maintaining since this past February.  I figure it this way....I'd rather write down my calories for the rest of my life then take a bunch of meds (blood pressure, chlosterol, etc) which is what I'd be doing if I had continued to be fat.

  • Lunch....  A tortilla wrap with 3oz of leftover roast chicken, some beanshoots, salad leaves and light mayonnaise.  A small banana.  A light fruit yoghurt (566)
  • Supper is going to be....   Homemade Tomato & Green Lentil Soup with some wholemeal bread (407)
  • Late snack...  Fresh pineapple with plain yoghurt, honey and toasted sesame seeds. (100)

Popeye's Spicy Fried Chicken is good...take the skin off and eat only the meat..... and because it's spicy the flavor gets thru to the actual meat.

I'm having this problem too.  I am 5'2", got down to 115 lbs. in March (45 lost total) and started eating a little more....today I weighed in at 118.  I'm frusterated and irritated with myself, but I've even upped my exercise, so I'm not sure if it's my metabolism adjusting or what the heck is going on.  *sigh*  Undecided

I don't call any of it "cheating" as long as it's in your daily calorie requirements.  I've lost 45 pounds..I'm at my goal now of 115 lbs. and cheating isn't in my vocabulary and never will be.  If you want greazy burger, eat it, just calculate it into your daily calorie intake.

Original Post by ibez:

I don't know about your lifestyle, but loading up calories in the evening is the last thing you want to do for weight loss. I think gi-jane understated the point here, as it's really important. You are using most of your energy in the earlier parts of the day. That's when you're out and active, and that's when you need most of your calories. If you have most of your calories in the evening, then you will go to bed and your body will start storing the extra food as fat.

You should have most of your calories in the first half of the day and taper it off throughout the evening, the last meal being 2 to 3 hours before bed.

Here's what I would recommend for you:

Breakfast 200

Lunch 500

Snack 300

Dinner 200

Dessert/snack 200

By the way, if you're going to have something sugary like dessert, that should happen in the earlier part of the day as well. By the time the evening comes around, your body has plenty of carbs available so you don't need to eat them (Excess carbs are easily stored as fat). It's best to eat anything sugary or high-carb in the morning because that's when your body really can use the carbs.. it's used up what it had overnight.

You haven't mentioned what kinds of foods you'll be eating, so I'll just assume you're eating good foods rather than give a whole spiel about that too.

200 for dinner?  that's nuts.  There's no way in hell I'd only eat 200 for dinner.  I loves me some dinner and I eat anywhere from 500-600 for dinner.  My daily intake is 1,300.  I've lost 35 pounds since last February and I don't see where eating more later in the day is any effect on anything.  (I'm currently 125)
