Motivation what was your accomplishment today? Apr 16 2009

I'm doing the Couch to 5k and I accidentally did the wrong week's workout this morning.  It really bummed me out since I am super busy (just bought a new house and am fixing it up) and it is really hard for me to schedule even just 3 half hour workouts a week with a day in between them.  BUT, I am so determined to complete this program, that after a looong day/evening of working on my house, I came home and ran again, this time doing the right workout!  Woot!

Wesmckean, thanks for the information and for your kind words of encouragement.  I just finished my second day of C25k and I know the following weeks are going to be hard for me.  I'm going to really try and focus on how my running improves regardless of whether or not my scale moves the way I want it to.

Foods Going to Europe! Mar 28 2009

I studied abroad in Spain for several months, but I was in the northwestern part of the country.  I lost about 10-15 pounds while I was there and I never counted calories, just tried to make smart choices.  I did so much walking every day it's not surprising I lost weight.

As for what to eat, yes, much of the food is fried, but it's done in olive oil so it's not all bad for you.  I recall eating tons of fresh fruit, fish, salads and bread.  And I definitely indulged and tried all of Spain's best foods like paella, empanada, tortilla espanola (think egg potato omelette), and turron (almond candy).

Enjoy your time in Europe and don't worry too much.  Make sure and go out for tapas!

Hi all, just doing a quick BLC weigh in.  I'll try and post more tomorrow.

Last week: 176.2

This week: 176.4

Even though it's a gain, I just can't bring myself to mind since I had dropped so much last week ( 3 lbs. is a lot for me in a week) since I was sick and then last night I ate REALLY badly.  I'm sorry Red Team Embarassed; I should have tried harder!

Pizza is still my #1 trigger food that I really need to work on.  Anywho, my goal for next week is to be under 176 lbs!  The lowest weight I ever remember being my junior and senior years of college was 173 and that was during a diet phase.  I'll be so excited to surpass that and get under 170.  The next weight range I remember being was at the beginning of college and I think I was 140-150.  I don't even know if I want to get back to that weight considering how my body has matured since then.  I feel like I'm a lot more muscular and womanly now than I was then, but who knows, maybe I won't even be happy with my size until I'm 125 lbs (I'm only 5'3'' so it's a definite possibility).  I'll know what size I'm happy with when I get there, I guess.

Hello, just checking in for the BLC.

Last week: 179 Today: 176.2

That's almost three pounds, but I don't think this is an accurate weight. I will probably not lose any next week or gain back some. I've been mildly sick all week and not eating much so I wouldn't be surprised to see a re-gain.

I went and saw 'The Dark Knight' and thought it was really good. I'm totally blowing my calories today, but will try and do better tomorrow. The fiance and I ate at the Olive Garden tonight and I went overboard AND had a ton of popcorn at the movies, but I honestly can't remember the last time he took me out on a real date, so I just can't make myself feel guilty about it.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Okay, I FINALLY have a chance to catch up and comment!

Dalma - you look HOT with your new haircut and I would just like to say that the difference between you in your older vs current pics is great! You totally inspire me, not just because of the awesome the weight loss, but the fact that you're always here staying positive, making people laugh and not being intimidated by life. I really admire that you have made the decision to get healthy, but it never seems like you're waiting on anything in life until 'after you lose the weight'. That is something I would really like to change in my life - I want to be really living every moment and not always planning.

Sweepie - I really hope Toby is still doing okay. Considering how freaked out I got when my fishie, Fiona, got sick, I can't even imagine how I would be with a sick puppy.

Watchme - What can I say other than I think you must be one heck of a great person and that I really respect you. I'm not able to fathom how hard it must be for you to live by your culture's standards. But you're always very thoughtful and not at all resentful and you work SO hard. I think anyone would be lucky to have you as a friend/girlfriend/wife/mom/etc.

Soulja - whatever you decide to do with the BLC, I'm behind you. I'm just glad you're 'sponsoring' it!

Dani - hope you're feelin' better!

Pixie - I don't know about cheat 'days', but I definitely try to work cheat 'meals' in on a decent basis. Otherwise, I find I tend to go way more overbord, whereas if I just let myself have one splurge meal I might stay in the maintenace range of calories. As for the ladies in your office, I totally understand your gut reaction; just try not to let it get to you. You're doin' great!

Ana - hope your having fun on your trip wherever you are!

Reddy and everyone else who commented on the red dress -- thanks! I can't wait till I can see the changes for myself.

Ally - good look with quitting smoking and great advice about weight lifting. I really need to add that to my routine.

Liza - I can't wait to hear al the nice things your family has to say about you when they finally see you again! And I totally saw that article on MSNBC! It would be great if nutritional info was available everywhere and actually accurate!

hi everyone, just thought I would drop by for a second. The fiance and I are going to watch Atonement tonight so I will post more comments tomorrow. I posted some pics from the wedding I was in this weekend (featuring my sexy red dress) and also fixed some of the pics my wedding invites as they were set to private instead of friends only. In case anyone is curious, the red dress I am wearing is a size 18, the only alterations being to take the neck strap and bust in a couple of inches. I can't really tell a difference between previous and current pictures of me even though there is a 17 lb difference. What do you guys think?

oops, forgot to weigh in on Friday for the BLC before I left town. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding for friend I've known forever. It was a gorgeous ceremony. Maybe I'll post pics later - we wore rockin' red halter top dresses.

Woo hoo! A total 2.8 lbs. lost since last week! Let's hope I don't blow the next weighin from eating so much food at the wedding this weekend! :-)

Been super busy for what seems like forever!  Just thought I would stop in and say hi!  Everyone, keep up the good work and way to go on the awesome support and motivation.  I've got another wedding I'm in this weekend so I won't be around.

I posted pics of my wedding invitations and other stuff if anyone is interested, just add me as a friend.

This BLC is keeping me super motivated this month; I'm looking forward to weigh in since I think I am finally down a couple pounds.  I've been fluctuating open and down for awhile now.

Have a good week everyone!

Hi all, it's been awhile so I thought I would check in.

Liza - some of my favorite foods to cook are broth-based soups (or gazpacho in the summer), black bean burgers, zucchini patties, pita pizzas, stir fry, stuffed green peppers and tons more. I try to make things that are really versatile like the BB burgers. We'll eat those one night and then the next few nights I'll use them to make veggies tacos or a Mexican pita pizza. If you want any recipes, let me know because I LOVE to cook.

Tonight I had my first wedding dress fitting. I bought a size 16W dress back in February and it has a corest back. When I tried it on today (first time since Feb.) the corset was tightened to the point where the two sides were only like 4-5 inches apart at the widest spot and in some areas there was no way it could be any tighter. I am simultaneously ecstatic and bummed. I had to have the sides taken in just so the corset would look right and it cost me an extra $65. I had thought with a corset back that it would help keep my alteration costs down as I was planning on losing weight. On the bright side, I am obviously down inches (don't know how many as I don't take my measurements) and I guess if I lose more weight between now and September, that corset back will still come in handy.

souljahg305 - Please sign me up for the Biggest Loser Challenge! My start weight is from Friday's official weigh-in, 181.4 Just wanted to let you know, that I tried the lemon water thing, and I feel like I can notice a difference. It's hard for me to limit sodium since I eat canned soup like every day of the week.

Dalma - I am now at at total of 933 minutes! I made my goal!

Ughh, I am so freakin' busy making my wedding invitations, and it is the last thing I want to be doing! I'd rather be playing my wii or working out or pretty much anything else. I just have to remember I'm saving money by making my own and that I'll have a lot cuter of an invitation for the amount of money I am investing. It's hard as my hand are covered in papercuts right now. When I'm done I'll post pics if anyone is interested; I know some of you ladies are pretty crafty.

Boots - thanks for the encouragement! And don't worry, I'm not giving up!

Dalma - Please add 43 minutes for me! Yay I am so close to my goal!

I ate a gyro and 1/2 a slice of red velvet cake at the farmer's market tonight and after I added up my calories, I had a slight freak out b/c my total cals for the day is like 2000, but I realized that I still have about a 400 calorie defecit. It's really weird that I feel like 2000 calories is too much considering what I used to eat. I bought a bunch of yummy fresh veggies so I think I will make zucchini patties for dinner tomorrow with corn on the cob. Umm, I am drooling already

After the farmer's market I went to the grocery store and picked up this product called True Lemon. It's crystalized lemon in individual packets a lot like crystal light or something, but it's 100% natural with no added sugars. I really like it and wanted to know if anyone else has tried it or had any ideas for recipes with it.

My other question is what do you guys think about the theory that hot lemon water can help reduce water retention? I've read so many conflicting things about it (hot vs cold water, sugar or no sugar, time of day) that I can't form a good opinion. I thought maybe someone here might have some first-hand experience.

And finally, welcome to all the new ladies, it's good to have you!

Dalma - add 83 mintues for me please, lots of walking tonight!

So, I've totally been sucking at counting calories and eating healthily the last 4-5 days and it's definitely showing on the scale. Part of it is that I have an old roommate staying with me for the next couple weeks and it's just throwing off my schedule, especially with cooking. The other part is that I've just not been motivated especially since the scale is really not cooperating with me anymore. I've dieted off and on since like 6th grade and it always works to a point and then I get discouraged and just gradually go back to my old lifestyle. I gave myself a mental slapping and focused really hard on why this was so important to me in the first place. I got back on track today, but I think I'm going to back off a little, maybe a 500 calorie defecit a day instead of 1000, because I think I just kind of burned myself out. I guess the point I was coming to was that if not for you very kind and supportive ladies, I probably would not have found the motivation to push through this discouraging period. You guys make all the difference in helping me to remember that this will one day be totally worth it, so a huge THANKS! to all of you. Also, to whoever suggested the Biggest Loser challenge for July, I am totally in! Although I have never seen the show if that makes a difference. When does our 'official' weigh-in for the challenge take place?

Dalma - add 120 minutes for me please! Whew, I am pooped. I cleaned almost the entire apartment today. It's probably a good thing too since I've eaten terribly all day. I just felt the need to take a day or two off from counting calories. It's not an excuse to eat whatever I want, but just to stop obsessing for a little while. It's times like this I wonder what I'm actually going to be like when I get to a weight where I can just maintain.

Dalma - I say if you want to travel, go for it! Don't let fears hold you back (or cash for that matter). I studied abroad in Spain for 4 months and whiles I was there traveled to London. I was terrified of living with my host family and just surviving the stresses of traveling, but in the end, it was the best experience of my life and totally transformed me as a person. I am a much stronger, outgoing, confident person because of living abroad, even though it was just a short time.

Booster - you rock for your super encouraging words for Watchme. I gained a lb this week and was also expecting to see a loss or at the very least, the same weight as last week. Thanks for remindng all of us that sometimes you just gotta trust your body and know you're taking the right steps to a health lifestyle, rather than depending on a # on the scale.

Dalma - I couldn't think of anyone else I would rather ask to be a part of my wedding party, but anyone I've mentioned the whole male personal attendant thing to has thought it was kind of weird. Then again I am from closed-minded-ville, IA. Doesn't matter, since he was totally honored that I had asked :-)

And I don't even know what is going on with my weight; I thought I had done fairily well this week and I haven't been that stressed out, but it's like my body refuses to let me get below 180 lbs...grr. I think I will wake my honey up so we can go to the Farmer's Market. Have a great day, everyone!

I'm so glad it's Friday! Work has been really slow, so I've been working on a lot of my wedding planning on the side and ughh, I hate planning this sort of stuff. There are just way too many details. I frequently ask my honey to just let me know where and when to show up. On a kind of happier/funnier note, I asked one of my best friends, David, if he would serve as a personal attendant for me. No, he is not gay, I just don't have very many girlfriends I'm really close with and we've been friends for like 6-7 years now. I told him I could always change his title to 'man servant' or something ;-) I gained weight this week, first time that's happened, and I'm wondering if it's due to stressing out about this stuff 'cause I ate relatively well this week and it's nowhere near TTOM. Anyone else gain from stess alone?

Dalma - go ahead and add 53 minutes to my total! Yeah for swimming!

Dalma - 23 minutes for me, please. Ughh, I so need to kick it into high gear on the whole exercise thing, but I've got so much other stuff on my mind right now it's not even funny.

I'm getting married in just under 3 months, and let's just say I've always been a wee bit of a procrastinator. It doesn't help that one of my best friends got married about 3 weeks ago and that another best friend is getting married in about two weeks. The alteration fees for bridesmaid dresses are killing me! Although I did get an excuse to buy a killer pair of red satin pumps...

You girls are all crazy with your fun hobbies. I used to ride go-carts and mini bikes and stuff when I was a kid living out on 'farm'. Now I'm pretty mellow when it comes to hobbies; I like to scrapbook. It's about as tame as you can get.

Tomorrow is my official weigh in day, but judging how things have been going this week on the scale so far, I don't think tomorrow is going to be a happy day. I don't know what is going on, but I've consistently been up 2-3 lbs. I didn't eat the greatest over the weekend, but this is more like I've been sneaking sticks of butter or something! Oh well, it's not like I'm gonna give in if I don't like the #s, so I will just keep plugging away!

Dalma - I am up to a total of 369 minutes! Woo-hoo!

So one of my girlfriends got me a target gift card for my b-day way back in Oct. and I just re-discovered it so I went shopping tonight. I bought a pair of rollerblades! Yay, I love skating, but it is WAY harder than I remember. I recall a lot more ankle support from the boots, but noooo, I was tipping back and forth and all over the place looking like I had never skated a day in my life. A car of guys in their 20's drove by honking and laughing :-( but what the heck, I'm getting my extra exercise in. Everything was going well until the last 5 minutes and I couldn't slow down enough to take a corner and totally wiped out on the sidewalk. Thank goodness it was in a secluded neighborhood even though there was a person across the street watching, I am pretty sure.

Sidewalk 1, Jess 0

My scraped elbow will have its revenge! (my pride will take much longer to recover though) All in all it was a good time and I got a great workout, much better than walking.

To all you girls having to deal with your moms right now - I feel your pain. My mom is 5'3'' or so and all of like 100 lbs. She tends to make underhanded comments about my weight and it drives me crazy. All I can say is, deal with it as best you can. You only have a limited time with your mom and it's best to let go of the smaller things.

Ally - I'm with the others, get some sleep. It's not worth working out if you can barely move 'cause you're so tired.

Valerina - Welcome and good luck!

Watchme - Have fun working out and I hope you're feeling better.

Fallon - Thanks for just being you; you always cheer me up with your posts!

Liza- You are the first person I have ever heard say they prefer any kind of donuts to a Krispy Kreme! I personally don't even like donuts, but umm, there is something about a Krispy Kreme (just the plain glazed kind).

Sweepie - Way to go on the 2.5 hours, you rock!

Reddy - LMAO! Your hubby's overprotectiveness will make me smile all night! I hope you're feeling better. Everyone has one of those days, but you just have to keep reminding yourself it's going to take time and that it's worth it to stick with it. Just keep remembering each of your minor accomplishments and they'll add up before long.

Dalma - Please add 98 minutes to my total (should be 316 minutes now) as I totally hauled a$$ around the grocery store tonight! I'm proud at all the extra walking I put in but man my legs are starting to hurt, lol! I've been switching up my workouts this week and I can definitely feel it.

wow, everyone here is so amazingly supportive. It sounds like most people are having a hard week from family problems to low self-esteem or like me just getting off track for a few days. No joke though, I actually teared up a little at all the kind things everyone had to say to one another and lol at all the threats of bodily harm :)

I wasn't very motivated for the past few days, just kind of in a funk but I'm getting back into the swing of things now that I've stopped by here! Keep plugging away everyone!

~My final goal is 128 but I think I may look strange at that weight...I have a large frame (thick ankles and wrists, and really thick calves) and I wear a D-cup bra. But I'll see how I look as I keep losing weight.~

Just an FYI - I am also 5'3'' with a medium to large frame (although I am only a B cup). I recently had a health screening which included getting my fat/lean ratio. I was about 194 lbs. at the time 120 of which was supposed to be muscle so my screener said my ideal weight range was from 140-160. I don't go by BMI because it just doesn't work for me, but you already said that you were going lose weight going by how you felt you looked which I think makes complete sense. Just thought you might find this interesting!
