You've barely eaten all day and now you're hungry? That's a puzzler... And if you seriously think that eating will "destroy" you it sounds like you need a different kind of advice. |

Yes, it has nothing to do with the time of day, only to do with the fact that your body is supposedly less efficient at burning calories while you sleep. I don't know if this is true, I've never paid much attention to it myself. |

I once ate a whole canister of sour cream and onion flavouring that you're supposed to shake onto popcorn. At the time I thought I was being dead smart because it was much less calories than eating the popcorn. "Why don't I do this all the time? I could give up crisps altogether!" I said smugly to myself. Then I checked the amount of sodium in there. I spent the rest of the day trying not to have a heart attack. Oh, and I gained 5lbs in water weight. Not doing that again... |

This is only suitable for CC's who are of age, but if you have doubts about guys liking curves you should probably check out the stats of the Playboy bunnies... http://www.theplayboybunnies.com/ If you're under 18, here's a few examples: Jamie Bradford Crystal Carter Tawny Fox
I won't say that these are the most beautiful women in the world because beauty is extremely subjective. But they sure do make a lot of money from the way that they look. |

Original Post by ginaiboo: Basically they make the number on the scale go down (temporarily), which means that they're marketable because they trick people into thinking they're losing weight. The point of them is that they make money. That's ... pretty much it.

Original Post by darkylinky: Actually that's a fair point, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions - it was wrong to assume that "awful" meant "fat" when people can be unhappy with their body shape for all sorts of reasons. But in another post she said she was trying to lose weight by "Excercising obsessively and low calorie intake" so unfortunately the conclusions I jumped to were accurate. |

LOL the other day I was with my boyfriend and he mentioned in this worried little voice that he thought maybe his arms and pecs weren't bulky enough and he should work out more. After I got over the adorability of the situation it got me thinking about this thread and made me wonder whether guys think this way. For example if somewhere on the internet lurks a thread where for pages and pages guys say things like: "But are tall guys really more attractive than short guys? How tall is too tall? What's the most attractive height? Is it 6ft or taller? I'm 6ft 2", does this mean girls won't like me as much?" or "I'm a mesomorph and I'd heard that mesomorphs are more attractive but I have this friend's who's really skinny and he gets a lot more attention from girls than I do he weighs about 135 I weigh about 160, what does this mean?" or "I only have a 4-pack, do I need a 6-pack before girls will like me?" Anyway it made me giggle. It also made me realise how little body shape has to do with attraction, for me anyway. If a guy doesn't have a personality then all the 6-packs in the world won't make him any sexier. |

Sometimes I think that low self-esteem is a way of over-compensating. If you constantly tell yourself that you're rubbish then no one can accuse you of being egotistical or having an inflated opinion of yourself. If you're really afraid of that then sometimes it feels like the only way to avoid it is to constantly berate yourself for not being good enough. It seems ridiculous, but even something as simple as saying "I look pretty good" or "I'm quite a nice person" can make it sound like you're full of yourself, even if those statements are true. |

Original Post by clemmie_t: When doctors say that carrying weight around your middle is unhealthy,I'm fairly sure they're referring to people who weigh 200lbs and carry most of it in their midsection. It's equally unhealthy to have absolutely zero fat on your stomach. As for saying that you didn't "look" underweight at 98lbs ... whose judgment is that? Because a) if it's your own judgment, then you're probably a little biased and b) being underweight isn't something that you can tell just by looking at someone, particularly in our current culture where we're so used to seeing underweight celebs that underweight has become the visual norm. On more thing for your consideration. Many of the people who come to CC are recovering from ED's and looking for a way to gain weight healthily. If those people come on here and see a post saying "I weigh 110 I'm so fat and unhealthy I need to lose weight," how do you think they're going to react? If you insist that you are in no way harming your own health, at least try to think of how you might be impacting the health of others. |

This one kind of helps... if I'm just going out to the library or to hang out a friend's place or do something else where I know I won't need money then I leave my cash and debit card in my room. That means that there's no way I can fall victim to the temptation to buy high-calorie snack foods or pop in at Starbucks for one of their 5 million calorie bakery items. Similarly if I'm going shopping for food I plan what I'm going to get beforehand and only take enough cash to buy that. |

Original Post by chrissy1988: Just remember, there may be new environments and situations that you can't control but you'll always have control over how much you choose to eat. I find that eating meals with other people helps if you are feeling especially anxious because they provide a distraction. Trying out new things with food can also help build skills for dealing with new situations, so search for new recipes for things you think you'd really enjoy and spend some time planning the meal and cooking it. Have planned mealtime too, to make sure you don't miss any meals. Whether you're at home or away, you can always take your personal mealtimes with you. Your body will tell you what you need: if you are hungry then it means that you need to eat. Allow yourself to do so. Carry snacks that you really enjoy around with you during the day. Remember that food is fuel. Everything you think, feel or do is powered by food. Without it you wouldn't be able to be you. Hmmm that's everything I can think of right now. I hope you find at least one of them helpful. |

Thanks for all your advice guys! I never used to like fizzy water but I might start drinking it now. No sweeteners yet today. Yesterday I completely OD-ed: sugar-free gum, diet Dr Pepper, big mugs of tea with sugar twin ... it was tragic. So by 9pm I was crippled by the most immense sugar cravings imaginable. I practically had to tie myself to my bed to stop myself from going out and buying a monster pack of Frosties and eating them all. Thank fully they've subsided now and I'm already starting to feel better without all those chemicals clogging up my system. |

I'm sorry too for the idiots in this thread. I really find it kind of digusting ... you wouldn't get, in a thread about binging, people saying "Just stop eating, stupid!" and similarly there is absolutely no call for sarcastic and patronising attacks in this thread. Believe it or not "eat a sandwich" is not the cure for anorexia, and because this is the Health and SUPPORT forum, sometimes people come here for SUPPORT or, as it's sometimes, known, REASSURANCE. Anyway, chrissy, try not to let it worry you. If you're going to be away from school for a while remember to take some of your normal snacks with you. For thenext few days eat about 200 or 300 extra calories to make up for today's deficit. Feel free to PM me if you need to talk. |

That's horrible! Your family needs to realise that bullying someone because of their weight or eating habits is conducive to an eating disorder, not helpful! It's possible that they have their own issues with food that they're projecting onto you but that's really no excuse. Your diet is your decision and your business and it's wrong of your family to try to interfere, especially when they're more interested in insulting you than they are in supporting you. From your profile I can see that you already have a healthy BMI so they don't have the excuse of being concerned for your health. Essentially this amounts to bullying. I'd say that you probably overate as a reaction to your family trying to strip you of the control you have of your diet. This is similar to trying to forcefeed an anoretic; it's not going to help, it's just going to make things worse. Anyway, the best advice I ever got was from St Francis of Assissi: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." You don't have the ability to change your family's food issues, thoughts or bullying behaviour. However, you do have the ability to control your own thoughts and your own diet - no one can take that right away from you, either by taking food away or telling you that you have no will power. Try talking to your family about how they're making you feel. If they carry on, just try to ignore them as best as you can. Feel free to PM me if this happens again and you need to vent your frustrations. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | What are they feeding their kids? | Apr 12 2009 00:10 (UTC) |

When I was at school, particularly in my last few years of secondary school, lunch was a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps, maybe a packet of sweets as well. If I felt like a hot lunch then I'd get a burger or chips. I don't think I ever ate anything even resembling a fruit or vegetable. As far as I can recall, about 80-90% of the stuff they had on sale in the cafeteria was junk. There was this little sad bowl of fruit that everyone ignored and there was usually some form of processed vegatable along with the hot meal, but there was also chips and pizza and mountains of high-sugar/high-fat junk food. There was a vending machine full of this crap in the sixth form common room, placed right by the door so that every time you went in you would have to walk right by it. There was also a kebab van full of greasy food, not-very-hygienic parked right outside the school where most of the older kids would go for a hot lunch. I remember watching Supersize Me and seeing that the situation is much the same, if not worse, in American schools. I don't know if schools get more money by selling Mars Bars and Cheetos than they would by buying decent produce from local suppliers but if they do then it's all the more horrific because they're making money by selling the health of kids too young to know any better. And then when schools try to advise parents on what to putin their kids' lunchboxes you get the accusations of "nanny state". Well maybe if parents started acting responsibly instead of acting like kids then we wouldn't need a nanny state. |

Heh as a woman I've been battling that similar bulge forever. There's no way to spot-reduce but I've found this website to be particularly helpful. http://www.flatstomachtips.com/ And for what it's worth, every guy I've ever dated has had that little bulge and I personally love it and think it's very sexy. LOL if I ever dated a guy who didn't have ANY fat rolls when he sat down I'd probably be disturbed by it ... it would make me want to continually run to the gym. |
