Hey all....thanks for all the info on shoes, now when I go to the store I can sound all smart and stuff!

I'm going to walk again today since I can't get to the gym again until Monday (will be on a plane all day Saturday and then Sunday with family...gonna hit mom up for new shoes!)  ANYWAY...where I was going with that is, if I walk at a very brisk pace (say warm up at 3.5 and walk a steady 4 to 4.5) would I still be prepared to move on to week three or should I repeat week 2?  I'm not sore today, but I don't want to hurt all weekend so I'm going to stick with walking today...and maybe get on the bike too.

Have a super day everyone!

Okay...so my right ankle/achilles (how do you spell that anyway?!?!) really hurt when I tried to jog today so I ended up doing some very vigorous walking (5 mins at 3.5mph/20 at 4/5 at 4.5...I did 1.97 miles in 30 minutes...is that good enough to build the endurance I need to sustain a 20-25 minute jog/run by October?  I'm a bit upset with myself for not being able to actually jog today...I've got to get a really good pair of shoes.

Olivia...I bet your doggie is addicted to you too...so sad being left alone while you jogged!  Have a great day.

Hey guys, I just have a quick question...I have very very flat feet and I think some my moderate ankle/achilles tendon pain is coming from overpronation (thankfully it goes away in a day or so and seems to be lessening as I continue to run)...anyway, does anyone know a good pair of shoes that offer stability or motion control that isn't insanely expensive?

Hope everyone has a great day and enjoys their run/swim/bike ride...whatever!

Anthropology/Psychology major & Master's in Education.

I started out developing Cultural Studies programs for a Children's Museum and now teach Global Studies to K-5 at a school in NC (I got to develop my own curriculum which is a cool mix of science and world issues...molding the minds of the future...I plan on flooding colleges with anthro majors in the future)...

There are lots of things you can do with your degree, read "Careers in Anthropology" by John T. Omohundro...

I've noticed a change in my cravings...I also cut out the Splenda in my coffee in the morning.  I put some in the other day and about spit it out it tasted SO sweet.  I drink seltzer water (plain) to get the "fizzie" I miss (more so than the actual soda I believe)...it's a love it or hate it kind of thing, but I actually prefer a seltzer w/lemon to diet soda now.

I finished my first week and will be starting week 2 today...I LOVE RUNNING.  I've never done it before, but I truly enjoy it.  For the first time in a long time I've been looking forward to excersizing.  It feels unlikely I'll be running for a solid 25 minutes in a matter of weeks, but it's almost like an experiments for me (follow the plan...see how I do).

I think part of the reason I am doing well is because of the wonderful comradery and positivity of this thread.  Thanks to all and good luck to everyone!Laughing

hey mattimus, i don't really having an answer...do you think that maybe if you just waited an extra day and then picked up where you left off your knee would be feeling better?  i'm sort in the same boat...my ankles really hurt from running so I just wait 2 days for my c25k practice (i do brisk walking/biking on those in between days).  it makes the 9 weeks longer, but I feel better.

I tend to order a starter as a main course and a small salad as my starter (just like ericainrecovery)...most restaurants are more than willing to do this.  my downfall is the need to have wine with any and every meal out!

Thanks for the yay Olivia Laughing.  I'm going to get an indoor trainer so I can use the bike inside on rainy days or days when I just can't get to the bike paths.  And I'm a schoolteacher too...I'm using the summer to jumpstart my training so I'll (hopefully) stick to it when school starts again.

This is such an AWESOME thread.  My friend and I set up a goal of doing a 5k, but we didn't have a clue where to begin...the C25K site is PERFECT.  I also bought my first bike (it's been 20 years!) and will be swimming when my daughter has her swim team practice because I've set a personal goal to do a mini-triathlon.  Good luck to all :).

i personally wouldn't do it and i don't think my boyfriend would either.  we have a joint bank account as well as our own accounts...i want to feel independent enough to spend money as i wish (and i think he deserves to do so as well), but we also share major expenses via the joint account.  it's a trust issue as well as an independence issue.  it works for us.

I'm wondering if there is a connection between education level/financial status and the choice to be vegetarian.  I find that many of the people I know who are vegetarian have higher education levels and/or come from highly educated families...I think your bell curve theory is interesting, be curious to see if there are any anthropological studies or such on the topic considering that vegetarianism by choice, particularly for moral reasons, would probably constitute a subculture of sorts.
