I understand you. I live most of the time at my boyfriend's, and his parents don't know ANYTHING about healthy habits. (His step-dad will eat half a package of bacon at 10PM as a late snack, for example) And with the smell, it's even tougher to resist.

What I did is that I bought 100-calorie snacks (chocolate flavored) at the grocery store. They're individual bags (the size of a small bag of chips), and each contains chocolate-flavored Crispers. So when the bag is empty, most of the time, my craving is gone, and my father-in-law has finish all of his bacon. : )

I also recommend the Weight Watchers individual-packed brownies. They're somewhat expensive (at my grocery store they're 4,99$ for a pack of 6), but they taste REALLY good. (You don't even feel like they're low-fat, lol.)

Good luck !

Sorry I have been MIA but I have been very busy trying to get ready for my family.  They will be here in 15 days and counting.  The house is all decorated, the presents all bought and wrapped and now I am trying to do my Christmas baking.  I have four things to go and then I can relax.

I have not been tracking my food intake but I am being very careful what I eat.  I am not gaining so that is good but not losing very fast either.

I just remember that the turtle won the race not the rabbit.  I have a goal of 4.5 pounds to lose in December, even if I lose 1 pound I will be happy.  December is the hardest month of the year.

You're so right about that ! Inspiring.

missxdior  are you saying you lost 16 lbs since November 3???? or since you started.

Bibsey  I think you have something there (something in the air) I agree it is really hard but I am hanging in there with you.

JCR where are you???

I've lost 16lbs since November 3rd, which is the date where I started the Weight Watchers program.

I'm currently losing my body water, so it explains the fast loss.

You should read some motivating threads on CC ! It's what I do when I start being demotivated. You can think about all the good sides of not being fat...

Like ;

  • Getting constantly complimented on how good you look
  • Being able to pick ANY piece of clothing you want in ANY store
  • Being asked out by many more guys
  • Being seen by others as a model of self-disciplin and will-power
  • Not dreading a vacation because you'll have to wear a bikini... In fact, LOOKING FORWARD to it... ;)
  • Being able to relate when people talk about nutrition and fitness
  • Not fearing meeting people you haven't seen in a long time because you've got fatter than you were back then
  • Being less tired and more energic
  • Having a beauuutiful skin and a toned body
  • etc !

Hope this helps ! ; )

Thanks for your comments !

I've been on Weight Watchers since November 3rd, and I really don't want to waste all my POINTS on one evening.

Plus, all my friends know about my weightloss plans, and I don't want them to try to talk me in eating all that crap Lol.

But I really like the idea of holding food without actually eating it...

Good Luck, Missxdior!  Weight Watchers is a great program for accountability and to learn portion control.  Another great (and free!) support group is Overeaters Anonymous.  For those of us who eat when we don't want to, eat when we're already full, eat when it doesn't even taste good, OA is the place to be!

I've lost 27 pounds as of yesterday - I wanted to lose 30 before Christmas - guess I'll achieve that goal - horray for me!

Gratz for your acheivement, and thanks for the support ! :D

As I don't generally give a rat's cahones what anyone thinks of me, the worst comment came from my doctor.....  "Your BP is rather high and if you don't do something about your weight you're going to need medication".

Yep... that did it.

Ohh ... Yeah. Mine said something similar, too.

Oh lord... You can't even imagine ! I'm 18 years old and I absolutely REFUSE to wear a bathing suit ! I hate getting naked in front of my boyfriend, even if he says I'm attractive to him and that he likes my curves. I haven't wore shorts in decades...

Well a few things.  Like someone mentioned before, i knew i needed to lose weight, but i seriously bought into that whole "you're not THAT fat" mentality. Then a few things happened:

1. Just bought a house, so I'm broke. I have a TON of clothes i cannot wear.  Since I'm broke i can't go buy clothes that fit, so now i need to lose weight and use my massive wardrobe.

2.  After I left HS i slowly became a " I do not like to take pictures" person.  After realizing i had barely any pictures of me and my 3 yr old son TOGETHER, i freaked out.  The more pictures i took and forced myself to KEEP, I realized that me FEELING fat, was not just a "feeling" it was a reality.

3.  Finally, i got tired of thin people giving me weight loss advice.  I know what I have to do.  i have been on a million diets, know healthy eating habits and like healthy foods, constantly read fitness magazines, books and newsletters.  I need to watch my calories, exercise and be consistent.  I do not need anyone else giving rudimentary diet and fitness advice; especially from those people who have NEVER had a weight/emotional/stress eating problem.

Wheewwwwwwwwwwwwww! It felt good to vent. Thanks for posting the question Missxdior!

No problem ! : )

I think it's a good thing to remember the reason why we all decided to get on this journey !

What made me realize I was FAT, is when I went for the volleyball team tryouts in college.

I was excited about it, and I even asked my dad to come and watch me during the practice, which he did.

During the tryouts, all the girls were tall, slender and athletic. I was trying to catch up, fat, sweaty, out of breath, while they were all smiling and fresh.

What hurted the most though, is when I saw the look on my dad's face. He had PITY. He smiled, but I could feel it was to cover his disappointment. I was humiliated and still think about it...

So, your hypnotherapist is saying that people who are already motivated are more likely to lose weight than people who aren't?

In other news, water is wet.

What I meant by that is that someone who goes for hypnosis only because of peer pressure (like his wife who wants him to stop smoking) won't be affected by the treatment.

Sorry for my poor wording, I'm french Canadian.

I'm sorry your ex put you thru all that trouble but its good you're back on your feet. I gained the weight cause of my relationship, but it's nothing bad, i was just love 'nesting'. We would constantly be up all night and sleep during the day and so we would eat before sleeping, and eat all kinds of crap and go out to eat with friends a lot and it slowly crept on me w/o me even noticing lol I just gained about 15 lbs but it made me realize i need to change all my habits. I used to be skinnier and as soon as i slept over his house all the time i gained the weight, oh and he wants to be a chef so you know he cooks all this good food but its not good FOR me lol

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME ! Lol Surprised

Going to a restaurant is hard, but there is usually something you can have.  Don't be deceived by salads as often the dressing and toppings can add a real punch in calories.  Do tell them to put stuff on the side or just leave things out altogether.  I usually stick to grilled anything as that is the healthiest cooking method and try to get more veggies as my sides (assuming they don't drench them in butter!)

Don't eat an appetizer unless its like brothy soup in order to fill you up so that you wont eat as much after and skip dessert.  Also drink water instead of alcohol, soda (unless its diet), or juice.

Excellent suggestions !

The soup is a very good idea, since you feel full quicker ! You'll eat less of your main dish ! As for the grilled anything, it is indeed healthier ! Wink

Bon Appétit !

Hi,

I can't swear that my results is ONLY due to this experience but I think that it was at least a part of it.

I watched a program on discovery health called " I can make you thin". I forget the guys name, Paul something, Any way he was billed as a hypnotist to the stars. I did what he said  and it killed my nonstop chocolate desire and consumption immediately. Also, he encouraged walking as exercise and did a hypnosis exercise to develop walking more. I followed this also and I started walking like never before. I would even walk in the rain, drizzle or down pour it didn't matter. I was recovering from an ankle injury and dealing with other painful health issues so I couldn't walk far but I started. I worked up to walking 1-1.5 hours per session and I added weights as I increased my distance. Regretfully, I chose to stop my walks last week because I was informed that there is a BEAR in the development. So I have been doing DVD's and a mini trampoline in the house. I have stayed motivated and have lost 32 pounds... That's how much my 3 year old weighs... I have erased a small child worth of fat from my body in the last 5 months, Oi Yoi Yoi!!!

My feeling is that for me the hypnosis was free over the TV so I had nothing to lose. I am very leery of the cost to success ratio re: weight loss products and I don't believe in diets. That being said I believe that hypnosis may be effective but be mindful of the cost and promises... CC is an amazing tool and anyone looking to succeed on this journey needs to be wise regarding their choices and not just rely on some method out side yourself for results.

Good luck with your journey, be wise,be safe.

Thank you for your testimonial, franchllb ! Your story is one amongst many that prove the efficiency of hypnosis !

Let's hope it'll work for me ! (It should, since hypnotherapists say that the more you WANT to lose weight, the more it'll work.) Laughing
