Weight Loss I gain muscle I don't want. Help. Sep 17 2008

It only took about two to three months for them to really slim down.  It's not something I did intentionally, I just loved my walks so much.  I could, like, triple cross my legs almost. I would walk for about two hours every day after work.  It was so relaxing and was the highlight of my day.  My legs stayed slim for about six months after I stopped my routine.  Then I gained weight due to other lifestyle factors like I moved to another state with horrible weather and an increase in going out, beer and fried foods.  A social life can kill you sometimes.  You know how that goes......

Since when is a size ten huge?  Isn't that smaller than the average?  I thought the majority of this country was fat and a large portion obese.  Maybe on a high school campus or in the media that is considered huge.  In a little place I'd like to call reality, a size ten is not huge.

ETA: I'm not sure about everyone else, but I look pretty dang good in a size 9/10 (I wear juniors a lot because I'm short and it fits my body structure better). I would be happy being that size for the rest of my life and, believe me, I turn heads at that size.

A LOT.  2000-4000???  4 Cups of Carnitas???  Isn't that about a pound of fried pork??  Carnitas are loaded w/calories.  Probably about 400 calories in the tortilla.  Are the beans made with lard?  It sounds like authentic Mexican food so it's not going to be healthy.   If you must, eat half and dump salt over the rest if you can't resist.  4 cups of carnitas is no bueno.

I genetically have very thick muscular legs and big calves w/cankles and I gain muscle easily.  Thanks grandma!  Anywho...I too was athletic and the only time in my life my legs were thin is when I ate very little and went for looong brisk walks (about 8 miles) everyday.  My body finally ate up the muscles in my legs.  It's not what they tell you to do, but finally I didn't have muscular bulky legs.  I thought running made you gain muscle in your legs?  Everyone in my family that started a running program had bigger legs and butt afterwards.  A little counterproductive to your goal, don't you think?  For some, running helps them slim down, but I really think it's about the individual and how your body responds to certain exercises.

I'll join you on that. I know that 20lbs in 6 weeks isn't really realistic, but it's something to aim for at least. I actually find slim fast drinks to be oddly filling, for hours. Here is what I've eaten so far today.

Breakfast:

Breakfast scramble: 1 c. boca crumbles, 1 small red potato, 1 c. onions and peppers mix, 1/4 fresh onions, 1/2 Tbsp. safflower oil (300)

Lunch: Sushi - oh goodness, I had five plates (3 pieces each) (1000-1500??)

Dinner: Something very light

Workout: walking the hills of my apartment and we are going to do the really big hill several times.  My toe is broken so my workouts are limited to those I can complete wearing flip flops.

Hmmm...If I followed that routine for two weeks, I would be down a pants size by now.  Everyone's body is different.  It may take more time for you to see noticeable results.  I usually take a day off every three days to let me muscles recuperate so that I have more quality workouts.

Oh goodness....the list goes on and on and on

Save up an emergency fund for 3-6 months of expenses.  If you are like me, that could easily add up to over $15,000.

well... this thread has made me lose my appetite. I think I'm gonna wait awhile before dinner now.

Same here....maybe we can bump this everyday as an appetite suppressant.

Maybe you can encourage the shopper in your house to buy healtheir foods....or at least fresh fruit or something.  That stuff isn't really expensive and I can't imagine a household that lives on hamburger helper alone.  (shudders)

Lifting weights will help you to maintain your muscle mass during weight loss.  If you don't, it is almost gauranteed that you will lose muscle mass along with fat.

The more weight you have to lose, the faster it usually comes off in the beginning.  I would definitely say it's possible at your current stats.   About the vegan thing....vegans eat no animal products what-so-ever like meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, gelatin, etc.  When you say half vegan, do you mean that you will cut out red meat?  I think it is more important to focus on eating natural, whole foods like fresh fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, whole grains and lean meats.  Of course, you will need to accurately count calories, as well.

I've been there once.  Most of the stuff was ill-fitting, but I think that was mostly because of the styles that are out right now.  I did buy one shirt and it's holding up better than Forever 21 clothing usually does.

Oh yeah....head cheese.  I was all up for eating bugs in my Cultural Anthropology class, but when the head cheese came around, I just couldn't do it.

Hmmm...did you eat the entire box of donuts?  Sometimes we oversetimate the amount of calories we are actually burning.  It seems that if you were truly doing HARD labor for a week, one donut or two wouldn't cause weight.  So, yes, either you are swollen from water weight or you are in denial about how much you really ate/burned.

Yes....this is where all the butt rockers/trailer park crew went when I was in high school.  It's pretty much a bunch of low-class freaks that go and act weird....definitely not my cup of tea.  You have to go on stage and fake an orgasm the first time you go and people have sex right there in the theatre, probably while smoking their Malboro Reds and snorting meth.  Perhaps the show you went to was a little different than the ones I know of.   No, no, no, no no thank you.....

Uhh..yeah.  It's really none of anyone's business.  I'm not sure why they feel a right to make a comment about your weight or health.  You aren't going to turn around and say "OMG, you're fat!" and expect the person to NOT be offended.  There is far too much fat love going around these days.  It's almost offensive to be a normal wieght.

18.  I don't think going to college, when your parents are still supporting you, counts.  I can't imagine there are people out there living at home until there mid-twenties, but I guess we all grow up and mature at our own pace.  Bad economy and such is a bit of a lame excuse.  All the other adults in your "economy" seem to be doing just fine supporting themselves like adults should.

True.  In California, there are limits, depending on your age, as to how many hours you can work during school and summer time.

If teens are busy working, then they don't have time to get involved in extra curricular activities like clubs, leadership or sports.  Teens working multiple jobs.....huh.  What about their studies?  I would rather my child be focused on their education than slaving away at a minimum wage job.  Why did everyone/why does everyone work while in school?  Was it a necessity or just extra cash and the feeling of being independent?

All of my serious relationships have lasted about 2 years.  So, yes, I did participate in the festivities.

I know the average is much less and that it is weird I've never come across an "average" guy.  After a while I just started thinking that "average" thing was a myth.  Apparently not.
