Pregnancy & Parenting Worried that baby girl may be a tank.... Oct 14 2009

My oldest son, now 7 was like that when he was a baby too.  There wasn't a food he didn't like and didn't eat!  He came home from the hospital drinking 8 oz bottles.  he wasn't on a height/weight chart until he was 4 and he was in the 99% percentile then!  He's always been very healthy, only on anti biotics twice in his life and he was a daycare kid.  Now he plays football, hockey, and baseball; is a solid mass of muscle and had balanced out to a nice 49in and 61 lbs.  She will even out!  As long as she is healthy and active and you steer her in the right direction, she will be just fine!

I would stay away from the soft boiled/not fully cooked eggs.  But, other than that you should be ok.  The main concern with them is the salmanella (sp?) you could get from eating them not fully cooked.  They don't have to be rubberized, just make sure they are cooked through.

As long as your cheese are pasturized they should be ok too.  Double check and see what the DR says.

Well, I don't really have a problem with my mother in law, I do have some issues with my step mother.  We are a bit like oil and water, but it's a little better now that I am older and we live in opposite states! :)  Anyhow, I have found that the best thing to do if possible is to suck it up for the kids.  All of the adults in the situation, regardless of whether or not we love each other, love the kids.  And they are really the most important part.  You may find that the kids will have afternoons with grandma while you go and get your hair cut or things like that.  This way she gets time with her grandkids and you get time w/o her! :)  You will find a way to work it out as long as you always put the kids first.

It's going to sound mean, but let him scream.  Do all the normal bedtime things, bath, jammies, book, snuggles.  Then it's lights out and bedtime.  If he screams, he screams.  The only thing I can really think of that you could do differently is maybe push bedtime back a 1/2 hour or so, maybe it's too early for him when he is going to bed now?

Other than that, you have to maintain the fact that YOU are in charge, not him.  It seems like he is trying to assert some independence which is fine, except with thinga like bedtime.  Mommy is the boss of bedtime.

Take heart, these phases pass and they go back to "normal" pretty quickly! :)

Pregnancy & Parenting 5.5 months and miserable Sep 08 2009

I too hate being pregnant.  However, this is the 3rd time I've hated being pregnant! :)  It's miserable, and it's really hard on your body.  But, I have to agree that if you think you're tired now, wait until you baby is about 3 months old and you haven't slept more than 3 hrs straight oin 7 days.  Then, you will know tired! :)  But, you will find that you wouldn't trade a minute of it and you will actaully miss it when it is gone.  My best advice, nap when you can, suck it up when you can't.

For the eating, try "grazing".  Eat little snacks through out the day instead of trying to have breakfast/lunch/dinner.  I have to eat that way when I am pregnant as I too fee sick all the time.  I have found that that is worse when I get too hungry and then it's really hard to break out of that cycle when eating makes you feel worse.  try things like cheese & crackers, a bowl of cereal & some fruit, ect every couple of hours.  I can't really go more than 2 hours without a little snack or I'm sick.

Hope it helps!!

you just need a "fancy" cup.  Go out and splurge (within reason!!) on a good insulated cup/travle mug/whatever catches your eye.  Mine is a pink travel mug that can have either hot or cold beverages and even came with a pink straw.  I'm all about pink! :)

Although most of what you drink should be plain water, you can also shoot for "clear liquids" in general and wean yourself to all water.  Go with some weak lemonaid or something like that.  You can also squeeze some fruit into your water.  Put a slice of lemon, lime, orange, berries, anything into your water.  Then it won't taste like water.

The subsistiues are not that much higer in sodium than thier meat alternatives.  As with most things, most of the sodium comes with the prep.  There is basically no sodium in a block of tofu.

I think it's great that you are being proactive and doing what the dr says! :)  My weight is a little out of control too and I'm trying to fight those cravings with the best of them! :)  Here are some of my thought:

- you can add the chick peas to your salad.  They are really high in protien and fiber and are great in salad.  You can also drain them and fry them in a pan with a little paprika until they are crunchy for a GREAT snack!

-grab some fat free yogurt and toss your fruit in with that.  Or you can have it with your cereal too.  You can even freeze some and pretend it's ice cream.  Better for the freezing are the squeezable yogurts for kids, they are in tubes already (single serve yeah!!)

-don't go straight to skim milk.  try 1% for a week or 2 and then go to skim.  The change will be easier. :)

-you could try vegetarian subsitutes for meats for your favorite meals.  They make subsitutes for ground beef, chicken, burgers, sausage, hot dogs.  All sorts of things.  You will find that they are much lower in fat and calories and they go with all your favorites.  You just use them in place of the meat.  For example: For sloppy joes, I cook the fake ground beef for a few minutes and then add the sauce.  Viola, toss over a bun and we have sloppy joes! :)  You cook it on stove the same way you would regular meat.

Well, that was a little longer than I had anticipated, but I hope it helps!!

Again, periods, commas ect would be very helpful!! :)

You can not lie to him.  You can not lead him on.  You HAVE to tell him the truth and you have to do it soon.  It's not fair to him for him to think you two are heading toward a life together that will never be.

Pregnancy & Parenting Laying off the Caffeine Aug 25 2009
12:54 (UTC)

I quit all caffeine with the first one.  With the second one, I limited to one soda a day and decaf coffee int he am.  With this one, I'm not quite as concerned!  Not that I drink caffeine in excess to start with though.  I have a cup od regular coffee some mornings and usually a soda with lunch.  That's about it.  Every now and then a soda with dinner if we are out.  I don't see a difference in my children, so I'm not thinking that in the grand scheme of things it's all THAT big of a deal.  :)

Good for you for making your own decesion on your own terms!  Honestly, to heck with everyone else and thier opnions.  When you boil it all down it's all about what is best for you and what you can live with.  I'm very proud of you for taking a step back and really honestly thinking about what is best for you and your husband and considering all of your options before making a decesion! :)

It's not always the easiest thing to do and SHAME on ANYONE who called you names or sad bad things about you.  I think that people need to remember that they need to walk in someone's shoes before they can pass judgement!

Pregnancy & Parenting Baby is a belly sleeper! Jul 20 2009

Put him to sleep however he will sleep!!  :)  They only came out with the reccomendation that babies sleep on thier backs recently.  Generations of  children survived being put to sleep on their tummies.  Bottom line, they have no idea what causes SIDS so they are trying to change everything and see what MAY work.  If the he sleeps just fine on his tummy while you are awake, he will  do just fine while you are alseep.

The swaddling may help as well, but by the time my kids where that age they didn't want any part of being wrapped up anymore.

Good luck!! Wink

Pregnancy & Parenting How to take "you're getting huge comments" Jul 16 2009

I am pretty big with my third baby, and I still have 19 weeks to go!!  I'm not a tiny gal to start with, so I expect to get pretty round and I"m all baby.  My standard comment when I get the "you're really getting out there" is: "I'm pregnant, I've heard it happens"!!  And mine for "are you sure you're not having twins" is:  "Nope, only one, already had an ultrasound and seen it".  My favorite is the "are you sure your due date is correct?", my response to that one is, " pretty sure that I can still add!".

They drive me nuts at work too!!  I try very hard to remember that they all aren't trying to be mean, but they still make me nuts!!!  You would think they would know better!!  Tongue out

Pregnancy & Parenting Motivation for chores Jul 15 2009

here is what we do to motivate our oldest.  When we are at the store, he picks out something that he wants.  We buy it.  It then goes into "the store of mom & dad".  He gets "paid" for the things he does around the house, cleaning room, picking up toys, setting the table, things like that.  He ears different amounts for everthing.  Basic things that every family member should be doing are $.25.  If he takes all of his dirty clothes down to the laundry room he'll get $.50.  If he does a job without being asked, the value of the job jumps $.25.  you get the jist.  He adds up the money, which we track on a dry erase  board in stead of giving him actual cash since we have already purchased the item he wants.  When he has enough on the board, he gets the item.  It seems to really motivate him.  And there have been times when he's been saving for something big, that costs $20-25.00 and something for $10.00 has caught his eye in the store nd he's bought it, but had to take the money away from the bigger item.

It works on a couple levels.  It teaches him to work for his money, and already having the items in sight motivate him to want to "earn" the money and keep his things picked up!

Pregnancy & Parenting Another potty training question...... Jun 22 2009

My cousin's little boy was the same way.  He refused to poop on the potty.  They found an Elmo goes Potty dvd at a yard sale and grabbed it just becasue he liked Elmo.  He sat down to watch it and asked for his potty and has pooped on the potty ever since.  If she has a favorite show, see if they have a potty dvd.  It may help.  My kids had them too and they loved them, they think they are funny, but they get the message too.

Well, you're having "mommy milk" issues becasue you are not eating enough calories to make milk and run your body.  You can't expect tp breastfeed on 1040 calories a day.  You need to add at least 500 extra calories a day for breastfeeding alone.  You can't expect to be successful at breastfeeding if you aren't doing that. This time should be about feeding your baby, not all about you wanting to lose weight.  The weight will come off, but only if you do this correctly. I bet you will find that you will actually lose more weight if you increase your caloires for breastfeeding.  And make sure you are drinking plenty of water.  I understand you wanting the pounds gone, but, you have to eat enough to make milk for your baby.

Well, I can't say as though I think that the ice cream for the 5 month old is all that much of a big deal.  I do not think he should have had 2, but a little certianly isn't going to hurt him.  My kids have all had things "before they are supposed to".  You give them a little, and watch to make sure they are ok.  The chicken, eh maybe not the best idea in the world, but again the child does need to learn to chew at some point.  All of my children have been eating table food since well before thier 1st birthdays and we have zero food allergies.  We are also average weight and above average for height.  My oldest is in 1st grade and can read at 5 grade level.  I really don't think it's fair for people to judge other people's parenting by what they feed thier children.  Now, should the baby be laying down with a bottle, absolutly not, but we don't know that anyone ever told them that that is wrong.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!  I have a few workout dvd's at home that I'm going to dust off and put right by the tv this weekend, if they are in my face, I'll be more likely to do them.  My other plan is to include 1/2 - 1 hour a night for workout time as housework.  Maybe if I look at it that way, I'll actually get it done!

Happy Friday! Laughing

So, it appears that I'm stuck.  I've been the same weight now for 3 weeks.  While I freely admit to falling off the wagon there for a week or two, I've been working hard at getting back on track.  When I forst joined I lost 10 pounds.  My master plan is lose 10, take a little break, lose 10 more, little break, until I'm down 50-60 pounds.  I'm not in a huge rush, I've my 29 years putting this one so I know it's not going to come off in a month!  But 3 weeks at the same?!!?  So, I'm asking for a little help.  Does anyone have any ideas for new excersises that I can do at home?  I don't have a lot of time, I'm at work by 6am and when I get home I have two boys to take care of.  I need quick and effective.  I walk 2-3 miles a day at work on breaks.  I'm up for pretty much any suggestions!  Thanks in advance!!

Hey, sorry that I forgot to record on Friday.  It was a little crazy being my birthday and all.  I still tend to celebrate like I'm 10!  I did get on the scale and wrote it down, I just didn't make in on to post it so I did it today.  I'm quite excited with all of the eating out, cake and snacks that all go with parties in my office and with my family that I managed to stay the same!!

So, back to work on Monday, which I have dubbed "wash away the weekend day" whereby I drink crazy amounts of water in hopes of ridding my body of all the junk from the weekend!  Maybe this week I can make the number go down instead of stay the same.  Only 89 more days until my wedding and I would really like to drop some weight!

Have a good day everyone!  Laughing

I try to only weigh myself once a week.  I've kinda hit a stumbling block with my willpower lately and it's been helping to get on the scale twice a week.  Just to keep meyself in check.  I'm  still the same I was as last Friday, and I'm ok with that, more water and more will power for next week!  I can't undo the peanut butter chex mix, just move past it! Wink  And seeing as how it's office party day, I'm banking that today will blow my calories too!

We use quorn ALL the time.  We like it and our kids like it.  I've found that it substitutes very well into "normal" recipies.  And like a pp said, the naked cutlets marinate very well.  It cooks well not matter how you cook it, grill, bake, pan fry what ever.  We're big fans! Wink
