Disaster!!!

I have been really rubbish at getting back into the gym and I'm a bit scared to in case my hips go out again but I weighed myself this morning and I'm right back to where I started.  :(

I worked so hard to lose the 4 lbs that meant that I could actually get into my nice trousers (even though I couldn't actually wear them out because they were indecently tight) and now I can't get into them again.

I feel absolutely gutted.  I got so happy when I got to 122 and the fact that I stayed there even though I wasn't going to the gym was great but now it's all gone.  I'm so sad that I've returned to eating chocolate and cake and chinese takeaways and in the space of a fraction of the time it took to get the weight off, it's all back.

Anyway, I know I need to get re-motivated to get back to the gym - it's just hard to do.

That's the end of my sad little rant.

Hope you are doing better than me.

Thanks Karen and good luck with your last 1.5 lbs.  Well done!

Unfortunately this week I've gone back up again :(  Serves me right really, all I've eaten all week is rubbish.

Weight today: 123.4 lbs

Friday 4th July.

Current weight: 122.6 lbs - it's been 122.2 all week but I had a little jump today probably just because I'm recording it!

Glories:  Absolutely none.

Confessions:  Chocolate, wine, chinese takeaway food, loads of cheese, no gym.

The good news is that I have now been given the all clear by my osteopath so I'm going to go back to the gym next week.  It's odd but I can't seem to do the whole dieting thing without doing the physical activity.  It really is a "body and mind" thing, which is a little worrying as it means that I'll have to go to the gym for the rest of my life if I want to maintain a good weight.  Maybe it's just because I've been feeling down that I've fallen off the wagon so much.  Anyway, next week I'm aiming for lots of glories and no confessions - watch this space!

When I said,

"If they don't eat everything on their plate they don't get the scrummy pudding but it's fine to leave the table.  If they really like the pudding they usually manage a few more mouthfuls to get it!"

I didn't mean that they had to eat every single morsel, I merely meant that they had to give it a good attempt.  And puddings in our house usually consist of yoghurts or fruit.  That's not to say that they don't sometimes eat cake.  As a cake-maker by profession they do but it's all good homemade stuff.

Anyway, people seem to have jumped on that so I just wanted to clarify the point.

Hi there Sue,

Welcome to our group.  Weigh-ins are on Friday and it would be great if you could log your weight with us.  Ritzigirl and I are good at checking in and it would be great for someone else to join us although it's not at all compulsory. (Just a gentle prod to others in the group ;) )

Anyway, good luck, keep it up and I'm sure you'll do well.

Ritzigirl: Well done on getting it back down.  You see?  The 129 was just a wee blip! :)

Friday 27th June

Apart from the pain that I still have in my hips, I'm feeling pretty good today.  As I'm still not mended I haven't been to the gym all week but my weight has finally entered a new number!  Woo hoo!

Start weight: 126 lbs

Goal weight: 104 ish

Current weight: 122.2 lbs.

I've been stuck at 123.something for soooo long I thought I was going to stay there forever.

Confessions: lots of cake and wine and curries and beer - oh dear!  I need to get mended and get back to the gym because if I'm not there I seem to fall off the wagon big time.

Glories: NONE!  But I still lost weight!

Oh, and I measured myself today as well and although my tummy hasn't gone down since I started dieting, my hips have lost 2 inches, I've lost 1 inch on my upper thigh and 1.5 inches on my chest.  Woo hoo hoo hoo hoo!

Thank you all very much, especially trustwomen who made me happy and sad all at the same time. I think you got the situation completely right.  It's funny how, even though I think I knew it deep down, it needed somebody to spell the situation out to me.  ie:

"-he only got back in touch with you/remained in touch with you to keep the possibility of sex open. He has no interest in being "just friends". He went all weird when his daughter was born because you fill a "potential mistress" role in his life (incongruous with sharing one's new baby info) and not a "friend" role. Same with not wanting to meet your husband. "

I know that you are all right, (it's pretty unanimous!) and I'll not contact him again.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Sorry I'm a bit late!  Weight today (which was actually Sunday not Friday) was 123.2 lbs.  Still going down by minute amounts but as Ritz said last week, at least I'm still going down!

Glories: None to mention.  I should have gone to the gym every day last week but I did my hip in on tuesday and had to cancel all subsequent sessions :(

Confessions: To many to mention!  Doing my hip in caused an onslaught of wine, chocolate, crisps (chips to you American folk) and all manner of other comfort aids.  "Och Well!" as they say in bonny Scotland.

Ritz, don't fret about your slight gain, I went up and down like a yoyo for the first month but now I'm going steadily down.  Slowly mind you, but still down.  Keep up the good work.  Also, do you get the feeling that it's just you and me in this group?  I'm not bothered mind you, I like the exclusivity! ;)

Thank you so much Ritzigirl for your words of encouragement - I could really use them.  I was quite pleased over the weekend as I had to buy a new bra and I seem to have gone down from a 34 to a 32 which made me smile.

Good luck with your gym sessions.  My son is booked into the gym creche every day again this week so I have to go; although my work out this morning was a little short to say the least.  Oh well, tomorrow's another day so onward and upward as they say.

Welcome mom2gabbi and well done on the 5 pound loss.

Original Post by darice_73:

I am a mother of three and I have learned that your children learn their eating habits from you.  The best thing to do is keep eating right and eventually they will want to try what u r having.

Also stop cooking the nuggets and offer other foods and let your child know that this is what we r having for dinner.  Kids will eat when they get hungry and not just the things they like.  It will be a little crazy for a while but the eventually get with the program.  This I've learned ffom experience.  My house use to resemble a food dinner with the different meals I was preparing everyday but now the have learned mommy is only cooking once, better eat now or be hungry later

This is completely right in my opinion.  I have two children, one aged 4 and the other 2 and they both eat pretty much everything, including salads and olives and mushrooms and all sorts of other food that people find unusual for kids to like.

The only way to get children to eat is to lead by example and not offer a choice.  I don't subscribe to this whole "hiding" of good food.  I think that children should grow up knowing what they are eating and appreciating it for the lovely food that it is.

In my house we try to make meal times fun instead of battles.  If they don't eat everything on their plate they don't get the scrummy pudding but it's fine to leave the table.  If they really like the pudding they usually manage a few more mouthfuls to get it!

Also my kids like to be very "helpful", so if yours is similar (which I'm sure he is), maybe you could get him to help you in the kitchen while you prepare the meal.  He can pass you the carrots, put the peelings in the bin, get the peas out of the freezer and pour them into the pan, help lay the table etc.  I've found that if they take an active role during the preparation they are more likely to enjoy the end result.

Taking that one step further, if you have the room then maybe you and you boy could grow a few potatoes and carrots and tomatoes etc.  Tomatoes are great as they don't take that long to grow and your son can see them getting bigger and riper everyday.  And all kids seem to like treasure hunts and digging so imagine the fun that could be had looking for root vegetables.

So in summary as I do tend to natter on, Keep it fun, Keep him involved, and Don't offer a choice.

Good luck.

mmmm, Phish Food <jaymo licks her lips.>

Today I weighed at the gym so I'm not sure how it differs from my scales at home.  Anyway, at the gym it flashed between 123.0 and 123.5 so I'm taking the middle and declaring that my ..

Current Weight = 123.2

Goal Weight = 104

Starting Weight = 126.

Glories: I've been to the gym 5 days this week, upped my weights and increased my speed and duration on the treadmill.

Confessions: I've not gone over my calories but I have had a few glasses of wine, but apart from that I've been good as gold.

I have to say that I'm more than just a little bit disappointed by this weeks weigh-in. I really really thought I was on for a good 2 pounds loss but it's only 0.2 lbs lost, and I'm not even sure if that's accurate.  To boost my moral I tell myself that I'm not losing weight because I'm gaining muscle but it's still very disheartening. :(

Sorry too busy on Friday to post but did do my weigh in:

Starting : 126 lbs

Goal : 104 ish

Current : 123.4 lbs.

I seem to drop about 0.4 pounds every couple of days, then it goes up a bit then it goes back down.  Hopefully it'll just KEEP going down now with no more "uping!"

Confessions: Ate a double Snickers due to being in a bad mood and I've been drinking quite a bit of wine as I've been out a few times this week - tried to pick good food at the restaurants though.

Glories:  :(  no major ones.

Weight Loss eating healthy but not enough calories? Jun 03 2008
18:06 (UTC)

Most people on here will tell you that you definitely need to eat to your calorie intake.  I, on the other hand, kind of disagree.

I'm kind of short with a very small frame. If I don't have unhealthy snacks or booze I find it really really hard to eat to my 1200.  I typically have some wheat based cereal for breakfast (weetabix, mini wheats), a small piece of meat, chicken or fish with loads of veg for lunch and a sandwich or soup for dinner.  Since trying to lose a bit of weight I generally have grapes and apples as snacks instead of jaffa cakes and crips (potato chips), and I generally drink water above anything else and I'm trying to cut out the booze on week days as it's just not all that good to drink every night like I used to.

A day without snacks and booze usually comes to just over 900 calories and I sometimes ponder on eating another 300 calories "just because" but for two reasons I don't really like doing it.

A) If I start unhealthy snacking it won't end at 300 calories as the first chocolate bar etc is often followed by another (it's unhealthy snacks because I just can't eat that much fruit!)

B) If I wasn't logging my calories every day I would be none the wiser that I hadn't reached my calories so as I didn't feel hungry I wouldn't feel the need for food.

Anyway, as I said, I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you are eating properly and you don't feel hungry or tired through lack of food, I'd carry on as you are.  Now watch me get flamed ;)

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I do still have days when I go way over too.  Usually at the weekend when the wine etc flows and BBQ season is a killer!

Hi, may I join? I started a group but it fizzled.

Age:  39 (want to be thin and hot by the time I am 40 on 7-27)

CW 110.5 (already lost 7.5lbs)

Goal: 105-108

Height 5'1 1/2 (that 1/2 counts when your only 5'1")

Luvmyboy, I am a Mommy to a almost 4 year old little boy, who is the light of my life.  When I first started to lose weight and was cutting back on treats and working out more he asked me why and I said because I want my tummy to be smaller, he told me he loves my big tummy and boobs and doesn't want them smallerSmile.  He likes to cuddle a soft mommy, he has also said he likes to lay on mommy and cuddle mommy because she is soft and daddy is too hard.

So cute.  My 4 and a half year old daughter told me, "Urrggh Mummy!  Tummies shouldn't have layers!"

She's still very lovable though.

Anyway, Weight today was 124.4 lbs.

Nothing happening really.  Although I have lost 1 pound since last Monday's weigh-in on Friday I weighed 123.8 so I'm still very up and down, and I'm still 2 pounds heavier than a few weeks ago.  :(

I don't mean to offend either of you or your friend, but in my opinion a Size 0 really isn't that great. Size 0 people like Victoria Beckham, Teri Hatcher, Nicole Kidman etc look so unhealthy it's scary. All of these women looked so much more attractive before they got boney.

No adult female should have the body of the average 11 year old; or strive to have it.

If you are grown women please try to want the body of a healthy grown woman with a few curves of interest. Be slender not skinny.

Wow, have some respect.

http://photos-987.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-s f2p/v288/49/102/617575987/n617575987_843701_6 88.jpg

That's me.  Those are size 0 jeans I'm wearing. I'd love for you to tell me which part of my body looks like an 11 year old or where I lack curves.  I have a small frame and a BMI of 20.  I'm 5'5''.

Please remember that vanity sizing + smaller frames = healthy, curvy women often fitting size 0s.  Thank you!

I think I was very respectful and I still stand by what I said.  In these articles it does say that I was mistaken about the measurements of a size 0 and the average age that corresponds with them though ...

http://www.keepthedoctoraway.co.uk/showArticl e.aspx?loadID=00194   http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-40961 8/Sales-boom-size-zero-clothes.html  http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_sty le/health/article3656059.ece

... it's actually 8 not 11.

I agree that you don't look boney in your picture but I defy you to tell me that Teri Hatcher et al don't, and don't even get me started on that model in the Daily Mail!

As far as Vanity Sizing goes, well I've no idea what's going on!  The last article on the Times Online site has a few comments by readers saying that the sizes have changed a lot.

One states that "in the early 80s [..] the measurements for a UK size 8 matched those you quote for a size 0 (UK 4)."

I was a UK size 8 in the late 80's and I'm currently wearing a UK size 8 but it's a bit tight (which is why I'm here,) but once I've lost the weight to get my clothes to fit me properly again I'm very sure that I won't be 2 whole dress sizes bigger than I was back then.  It's a bit confusing but I hope you followed what I was saying.

In my opinion all clothes manufacturers should completely drop the "sizing" as it doesn't mean anything if you're a size 0 in one shop and a size 6 in the next.  They should either standardize the sizes throughout the industry or better still, just put the actual measurements on the clothes.  So people with a 26 inch waist would buy jeans size 26, and those with 22 inch waist would buy a size 22.  Wouldn't that be easier for everyone?

What I find scary is that young kids want to grow up to be too thin.  The obsession that the media has with being a Size 0, 00 and "negative sizes" (are you serious?) does not promote a healthy attitude to weight and size.  I agree that some people are naturally smaller than others, I myself have a very small build, but I think that it's wrong, and sometimes quite dangerous, for young girls in particular to grow up thinking that the "perfect" body of an adult is to have a waist the same size as a medium hat!   http://www.hatsandthat.com/measuring.htm

Current weight: 123.8 lbs

Confessions: Had a bit of a "cheese moment" a couple of days ago and drank wine and ate crisps (that chips to you American folk) last night.

Glories: Been to the gym 3 times this week.

I was really proud of myself yesterday; I did a really good workout in the morning and by the time I put the kids to bed I was sitting pretty on around 620 calories in deficit. Then, even though I wasn't really hungry, I fancied a bit of cheese.  420 calories later I was left feeling so disappointed in myself and slightly sick.  It wasn't even that much cheese but all my hard work at the gym was for nothing.

Oh well.  My husband told me that tomorrow was another day and at least I hadn't eaten more than I worked off so it didn't really matter.  And that's my advice to you. Tomorrow is another day to make yourself proud so don't fret. :)

The endocrinologist if a fruitcake and a drug pusher!  At 218, you should not need a drug to help you lose weight.  Why take the chance with the side effects if it is not necessary.  I do have hypothyroidism and have lost 76 pounds without drugs.  I made it from Obese to Normal BMI last week.  I am not saying that some people do not need help, but drugs should be a last resort.

I don't know anything about this drug, but I have to agree with Nosouix.  I wouldn't take any drugs for anything unless it was absolutely necessary.  Maybe you should go back to your Primary Doctor and ask for a second opinion.

Congrats Nosouix on your Normal BMI. :)

Hi Alennar.  This is the work out that the Personal Trainer at my gym told me I should be doing.  He suggested that I try to do it at least 3 times a week.   Obviously you need to gage your own weight settings.

Start with 5 mins on the cross trainer (level 5) to warm up.

2 x 15 reps on the squat machine at 80 lbs

2 x 15 reps on the upper back machine at 15 kg

2 x 15 reps on the chest press machine at 15 kg

2 x 15 reps on the lat pull-down machine at 25 kg

2 x 15 reps on lat raises with 3 kg in each hand

10 minutes doing intervals on the running machine - lower level at 4.3 upper level at 6.6

and finally, 2000 metres on the rowing machine record your time and try to beat it the next time.

Hope it helps.

Mrsdagle?  What do you mean "food that sticks?"

I'm eating my daily calorie allowance, I'm eating quite a bit of fruit and I don't feel hungry.  But I really do feel miserable.  My kids are doing my head in every chance they get and my husband is trying hard to put a smile back on my face but just can't seem to manage it.

My misery really started when I found that I was 2 inches shorter than I thought and I therefore had twice the weight to lose than I thought so maybe once I get used to fact that I am officially really titchy I'll feel better.

You must be able to burn off more than you eat otherwise nobody would ever lose anything.  I mean what's the point in the extra exercise if you have to eat what you've burnt off?  (other than the getting fit bit.)

I'd stay at eating your 1200 and doing extra exercise.  That's my plan as I've been trying this lark for a month now and not lost a thing so upping my exercise seems to be the only way to change things.

Good luck.
