This week: 178.6

Last week: 178.4

Gain: .2

So, I don't think this counts as a gain, but I guess I should have eaten a bit less sodium and fat over the weekend. Oh well.

It looks like I am finally out of my plateau. And that makes me very very happy, as does, as does being under 180 again. I don't think I have weighed this little since High school, and maybe the first year of college.

alexanderrob: Congrats on breaking out of your plateau!

jamminatorr: Excellent loss this week, especially since you ate more then normal this weekend.

I like eating some of the low-fat low-calorie microwave popcorn, especially the kettle corn flavor, because it is both sweet and salty.

So, I am not really counting this as a loss, for the past month I have been hovering between 181 and 183, and eating un-healthily every weekend for the past few weeks probably has not helped much at all.  I would say this week will be different, but my mom is coming down to celebrate my birthday this coming weekend, so which it probably won't be too horrible, it won't be that great either.

Mini Challenge: I have not been doing much in the way of exercising recently. I am going to commit to 3 days a week, at least half an hour. I will either do Wii Fit, or go for a long fast paced walk, or go to the room of 1000 tortures (exercise room) in my Apt complex. Hopefully once I get back into the groove I will go more often, but I can do 3 days a week.

Starting Weight: 181.9

Goal Weight: 164

So, I doubt I will end up reaching my goal this challenge, mainly because I have been on a plateau for the past month basically, so it may take me a bit to get out of it, plus that is very close to my current end goal, but I shall definitely try my hardest to get there.

So, I didn't expect my weight to change much this week, mainly because one of my friends had a birthday party this past weekend, so while I was good all week, I was not counting over the weekend.

Name: saxkat13

Age: 25
Height:5'7''
Current Weight: 182
Heaviest Weight: 215
Goal Weight: 160, maybe

I am loosing weight for a few reasons. Partially its because I am seeing how my mother's obesity is negatively affecting her now, and knowing the health complications that run in my family, and how less likely I am to get them if I get and keep my weight under control. The other reason, is I saw a picture of myself at a party, and I did not like what I saw at 215 pounds. So I decided to do something about it. This is the first time that I have ever changed my body enough to go down a pants size, well 2, and its going to stay off. I am not sure about where I am going to stop loosing weight, I am mainly taking it as a I will see when I get there. This journey is more getting healthy and seeing my energy skyrocket (which it has) then to be a certain weight or size, the weightloss is just a nice benefit.

So, again a not-so good weekend. I have been very lax in my counting as of recently, which is probably why I am hovering in the low 180's for the past few weeks. It probably didn't help that I ate 4 belgium waffles yesterday (and nothing else). I don't think this week will end up being too much better, as I will be going to a friends birthday party next weekend, where healthy food is not on the menu.

Jamminator: Congrats on making your goal!

leanne21071: good luck with your cleanse this week, hopefully it will kick your urge to overindulge after you are done.

alexanderrob: Glad to see you are back on the downward cycle :)

jett69: I <3 Indian food, and that chana masala sounds delicious. I will definetly have to try it, perhaps with my pretend tandori chicken (using tandori spices to flavor the chicken no matter how I cook it). Though I have a question, about how much spice do you add, is it like a pinch, or something closer to a tablespoon, or somewhere in between?

leanne21071: Yes, the shells are uncooked, which is why you add the extra water to the dish. The shells cook in the oven, and they stay somewhat rigid so it does not just fall apart.

I thought I would start the recipe sharing. I just made this for dinner (and lunches for the rest of the week) and it is very yummy, and 2 manicotti's is very filling. I highly recommend it. I used part skim ricotta instead of cottage cheese, and my fingers instead of a spoon to fill the noodles. :)

Easy Meatless Manicotti

  • 2  cups  (8 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1  (16-ounce) carton fat-free cottage cheese
  • 1  (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed, drained, and squeezed dry
  • 1/4  cup  (1 ounce) grated fresh Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2  teaspoons  dried oregano
  • 1/4  teaspoon  salt
  • 1/4  teaspoon  black pepper
  • 1  (8-ounce) package manicotti (14 shells)
  • 1  (26-ounce) jar fat-free tomato-basil pasta sauce
  • Cooking spray
  • 1  cup  water

Preheat oven to 375°.

Combine 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, cottage cheese, and the next 5 ingredients (through black pepper) in a medium bowl. Spoon about 3 tablespoons cheese mixture into each uncooked manicotti. Pour half of tomato-basil pasta sauce into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Arrange stuffed shells in a single layer over sauce, and top with the remaining sauce. Pour 1 cup water into dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella evenly over sauce. Cover tightly with foil. Bake at 375° for 1 hour or until shells are tender. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

7 servings (serving size: 2 manicotti)

This week was not so bad. I ended up eating more then I wanted to a few days, but I also got more walking in then normal, so I guess it all evened itself out. I think this coming week will be a bit easier food-wise. I just bought a new cookbook, Healthy in a Hurry, and flagged 2 recipes to make this week, and as such wlll only have to cook once this week and have meals and leftovers galore.

jamminatorr: I look forward to the recipes, I love cooking new things that sound yummy.

nbkelly: Your cleanse sounded like it worked very well. Congrats on loosing 3.3 pounds.

Rob, I to have been having issues lately staying motivated. For me it was buying a bunch of new clothing in my new and improved smaller size that made me say "well, maybe this is good enough". I haven't been this size in 5 or 6 years, since college, so perhaps this is the size that it right for me. I find reminding myself why I am doing this, to get healthier and have more energy keeps me from falling completely off the wagon. Maybe the same will work for you as well.

I didn't loose too much this past week, but I was sick and very lethargic, so I think my lack of movement a few days last week impeded my loss. But I am happy to be back on the downward cycle.

Leanne: Congrats on making it below 130! that must feel great.

Weight Loss How much weight had you lost when people started noticing? Sep 15 2008

A had a few people notice after I lost about 15 pounds, but it was really at about 30 pounds (ie now) when more then a few people noticed and commented. I also seem to be getting alot of comments along the lines of "is that new" to tops that I have been wearing for the past 3 years.

I really don't mind the "have you lost weight" comments the first time I hear them from someone, but it starts to bug me when people will not let the subject drop, it makes me feel very self conscious about how I looked before.

I ended up having a bad weekends in terms of salt and the amount of food I ate, which was alot and near maintenance both days, so I am not disappointed in not loosing this week, and actually, I am just glad I didn't really gain.

sarah_11235: Thats great that your school has all those dance classes, they sound like they will be a ton of fun. Hopefully the change will help your body get off the plateau.

I am 5'7", and am currently 183 and a size 12. At 210-215 I was quite comfortably a size 16 bottoms, 18 tops, which was my high weight. So at your weight I might have just been able to squeeze into a 12 bottom, and a 14 or 16 top, depending on the cut.

nbkelly: Congrats on your weight loss getting noticed. Sometimes is less that you have lost weight and more the toning up of you body that people notice. Either way its a great accomplishment!

alexanderrob: Sorry to hear abour your minor stumble, but you have it right, ignore what is passed and just focus on doing well this coming week.

I was not surprised with my loss this week, mainly because I was off of work last week, meaning I usually only had 2 meals and no snacks a day, so I had to work to get 1200 calories a day, instead of having to work to stay under 1600. :)

Mini Challenge:

My biggest saboteur is myself. My friends and coworkers are all very on board with doing less-unhealthy things. My mother would be a big saboteur if I lived closer to her, since she loves to bake and cook, though she cannot eat most of it so I end up bringing alot of it home. I am the one who will say I deserve this ice cream, or take-out when I know that I have easy to make healthy(er) food waiting at home for me to easily prepare. I also have noone but myself to blame when I wake up and decide to not go out and workout.

Why I want to loose weight:

  • Vanity - While I love my body, I know that I would only look better if I weighed less, plus when I am thinner I am more likely to find cute clothes that make me look even cuter. :)
  • Health - This year when I went for my annual check-up, I found out I had high cholesterol, and while I was already about 15 pounds into my weight loss, loosing more would only improve it. Also, my mom's side of the family has a history of type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and my mom has arthritis in her back and knees from being obese for so long.
  • I am also tired of having my doctor's yell at me every year for being so overweight/obese, and I figure it would be easiest to get healthy now, then wait to have to do it because of some complication.
  • What really started me on the journey was 2 things. 1. I was at a friends house and she was trying out her new video camera, just having the image display on the TV, and I saw how I really looked sitting there like a big fat slob and did not like it. 2. Like jamminatorr I had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to my office, and I was less ok by the time I got to the top then I thought I should have been.

alexanderrob: Congrats on the great loss! And a double congrats of behaving all week.

I was less-then good this weekend. My father was down for the weekend, so I spent all day Saturday with my dad and step-mom, and while I did try to eat pretty well, I know I had far too much sodium, though I think I did well on keeping my portions reasonable sized. On the plus side I did go swimming for 30 minutes, and walked quite a bit, so it was not a complete waste.
