one more thing--there is NO NEED to prep your nipples in advance.  and remember i am a mom of twins.  the current research and current medical advice is that trying to prep is useless.

what is good is letting your nipples air out and get some direct sun light everyday when you do start nursing--yes that means hanging out topless for a few minutes per day--it helps healing and prevents yeast growth.

so now that you plan on doing it here is a great book:  the nursing mother's companion--read it and keep it handy it is useful to refer to as you move along in each stage of bf-ing.  it helps to read it before the baby gets here so you know everything you need to in order to improve the possibility of success!

also this website has great instructional videos on how to get a good latch and lots of other great info about bfing  http://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html

i am a mom of premmie twins and they have NEVER touched formula--they are 20 months now and still nurse in the evening and at night.  i lost 30 pounds in the first month after they were born thanks to bf-ing them-- and was eating around the clock!

the La Leche league website--mother to mother forums--is a great place to hang out and read as you wait for baby's arrival- you learn so much from other mammas.

congrats on that baby! and congrats on choosing to do the best thing for that baby.

yipee! lost 2 pounds!!!

completed my goal of 6 hardcore 45 minute work outs this week and stayed food aware...i have not been counting cals religiously but i have been eating much less "just for fun" cals... instead am using food as fuel/nutrition...and have been really good about 8 cups of water or more per day.

sw: 177

today 175!!!!

next week: goal = 173

congrats everyone!!!

i was off line since the 2nd...so my may 9th check in = no change!

too much activity and temptation with inlaws visiting so no change in wt is actually a good thing. had i not kept up the workouts i am sure this would have been an increase in wt!!!

so REVISED goal by Friday May15 wt = 174!!!

i suggest buying a POLAR heart rate monitor...i don't think you could be at 105 heart beats per mminute when you are covering 3 miles in 30 minutes!!!

the polar heart rate monitor comes with a manual that explains all about heart rates and determining when you personally are in your fat burning versus aerobic zone.

i love love love mine and it is the $50 basic one.

good luck.

ditto what everyone else up there said PLUS one more idea:

make a CD of music that makes you feel good!!! strong. powerful.

whatever those songs are for you...get your music together, put your headphones on, and block out the world... focus your mind on two things: your workout and your music.  everything else gets pushed out.

for me one of those songs is Cristina Aguilera's song "fighter"-- love these lyrics
I wouldn't know just how capable I am to pull through
So I wanna say thank you
'Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

Weight Loss How are you handling the time consuming nature of tracking your calories...? Apr 26 2008

here are some thoughts about how to make it fast and foolproof--

1.dont eat anything that does not have calories printed on it.

2.avoid eating out at places that don't disclose this info.

3. keep a stack of 3 x 5 inch cards around the house, car, purse. use one card per day and just record the info off the package instead of searching on line.  use the site to just enter the totals at the end of the meal or day.

4. avoid being like me--obsessing about entering data all day AND writing it down too!Laughing

i agree with fidget84--you have a great thing going but you need to kick it up.

for one week try doing at least 45 minutes of CARDIO 6 days per week. it should be intense enough get you into your aerobic zone--if you don't know about that go to the polar heart rate monitor site on-line a buy the basic heart rate monitor--it will come with a manual that teaches you how to monitor your heart rate and how to determine your aerobic zone.

keep the weight lifting and pilates if you can...but if needed alternate one week of all cardio and the next week cardio plus weight lifting/pilates...also try to do intense bursts of cardio followed by short recovery periods (intervals are great for kicking up your metabolism).  also try doing something different for Cardio than your normal cardio exercise...so if you run then do the elliptical trainer or jump rope or take spinning or do the stair climber or row....challenge your body in a new way.

before going with dangerous meds give the above a try even for just 2 weeks and see what happens.  also research the side effect and death-rates on the drugs you are considering... good luck!

i agree with most of the above--WW is great as a tool to learn how to eat/exercise to lose weight and to maintain it.  the recent program is not only about "points" but also about healthy choices in terms of nutritional quality. they provide these cool little points calcualtors to figure out the points in each food as well as the points you earn by exercising.

after the first 10 weeks you have learned the whole program and will only need to go if you find the meetings helpful.  i found it helpful to weigh in at the meetings each week.  i also liked sharing ideas for low calorie foods and for dealing with tough situations.

i suggest joining with a friend to keep you motivated and to share the joy at weigh ins.

however if you need to save money i found the south beach diet book which you can get on half.com for a few dollars a great source of nutritional information and i am a Ph.D. and have read too many nutritional books to keep track of.  Also, for $65 per year, the Calorieking.com website offers a great training program that teaches you lots about weightloss/exercise/nutrition similar to what you would learn at WW.

I am reaching out to any other mammas or mothers of twins who are just starting here. let's coach each other through this.  i started my journal heretoday  and highly recommend it. by writing it i realized i had been choosing to spend quality time with my twin toddlers instead of putting in the time  at the gym that leads to weight loss.  so at least i  know why i am stuck and can now figure out a way to balance both of these very important goals: time with  my babies, time taking care of my body/health.
