I wish you nothing but the best muffinbug! We are all as individual as our ways of acheiving the same goal, weight loss.

I have been a member here for over two years and have come here many times in need of a friend, with a problem, a question, sometimes just to vent and other times just to log my cal's. I am going to delete my account, it's nothing personal. I just think there are way too many websites out there with informative information, whereas this one is a case of the blind leading the blind. Posting ques on here is great if you are just looking for each persons individual opinion on something, but as for getting educated advice here you will not.

Besy wishes to all!

Weight Loss Birth Control options that DON'T make you gain weight? Nov 14 2009

I'm on my second Mirena IUD and could not be happier with it!! Now granted it takes 3 months for your body to adapt to it and get your hormones balanced but I immediately started losing weight right after the 3 monthmark of my first one. If you don't have bad periods you could go with the paraguard which last for 10 yrs, no hormones.

My weight is not exactly where I want it to be right now either but I am 100% certain it has nothing to do w/ my BC. I'm going through some different medical issues right now.

Best wishes. I've often reffered to mine as my "God send" but then again my periods were atrocious!

Thanks, all good info. I wish I only had 5 lbs to lose. Lol. I've gained 15 lbs just since June because of stress, depression etc. I just haven't updated my profile because it makes me sick to think about it. I do eat small healthy snacks often and drink enough water to float a river. I have tried most of what you mentioned but I'll just keep trying. I do believe presistance pays off. I'm just extremly frustrated. I'm hungry and irritable all the time, burned out on doing an hour of cradio 5 days per week, sweating like a pig with no results but I'll keep on keeping on. :(

Yeah, well I've really been trying for the last two weeks but I'm flucutating up to 5 lbs in a days time. It was great when I saw it go down by that much but today it's up by that much. IDK, but I thought I'd give it some more more time, drink lots of water & restrain from salt.

Good answer! So when do you think is the best time to weigh? I know they say once a week first thing in the morning but if what you just said above is true how do i really know when I'm losing and/or gaining fat? I guess I could put the scale in the closet and just measure once a week, but wouldn't the same rule apply as for water? What do you think?

I'm always affraid I'm going to break out into a tune loudly. I NEED my I-Pod to function and the louder it is the harder I work. So I catch myself often wanting to sing as if I were in my car. Lol.

I really don't care though. Haven't you ever heard those body builders grunting like thier having a bowel movement? Lol. :)

Ohhh la la!!! A massage would be fabulous if I could afford it, but that's exactly the kind of answers I'm looking for. Maybe I should just enjoy a bubble bath, give myself a pedicure or rent a movie. See, now you've got my brain thinking, Angie. Good job! :)

Ditto!! I just posted something exactly like that under the "exercise vs calorie intake" post.  And I also agree about feeling good in your clothes being a huge reward in itself. BUT I just need something EVERY day to keep me from thinking about food, beer, wine... etc. I too am having problems getting motivated.

It seems like we also go out to dinner a lot these days for entertainment. I've just found that there is no way to cut calories while dinning out because even if you order the vegetable platter it's smothered in butter and most restaurants have very little low cal salad dressings to chose from. But that's a whole other subject in itself. Lol. (I used to work in the rest biz, so I KNOW!)

I think I can relate to every single thing you just said, lol. As having experienced those things too. I'm having a really hard time right now getting motivated about losing weight. It's like I want to but not willing to put forth the effort. I go through phases where it just seems like "uggghh, sweating in the gym today after I just spent an hour on my hair?" Lol. Cry

Funny thing is I KNOW how to lose weight. My roomate in college was a personal trainer and I was actually taking courses on nutrition. So I have the 'know how', I just don't think I mentally want to right now.

Where's that magic wand when you need it? Lol.

I know exactly what you mean about the gym being over taken by the heavy weight lifters!! I feel so intimidated going in there not even sure if I using the machine correctly and then the stares. Lol. Nothing annoys me more than for some body builder type to walk up and say "let me show you what your doing wrong." It's horrifying. Lol.

But I am going to have to agree that weight lifting is very important for weight loss. Buy a video tape to do with your resistance bands & try to increase your time and weight with your dumbells. There's tons out there. Cardio can only do so much because your body adapts to it so quickly. Also are you trying to eat only the healthy carbs that digest a lil slower. A bowl of 100 cal oatmeal used to go a long way for me in my "OMG I'm starving" phases.

Congrats on the 60 lbs girl!!! Your doing great, just stay at it. And to ultimately answer your ques, yes you can increase your work out to create a bigger deficit but also try those other things mentioned.

I'm back to sq one myself, I've lost and regained the same 5-10 lbs atleast 100 times now. Funny thing is I don't have a problem losing. It comes quite easy. I have a problem with mantaining. That's when I start to gain again and then it usually gets out of control before I can catch it. :(

Best wishes!

Oh no, I would not try to lose 10 lbs in one week. I'm all for healthy eating, exercise and losing weight slowly. I was just intrigued by all the get slim quick schemes and kind of wondering who really has lost that kind of weight that fast and how.

I'd love to be down 10 by Xmas and 5 by Thanksgiving but that's about it. I'm a big fan of carb cycling, I still count calories on low carb & high carb days. That's the only thing that has ever increased the time in which I lose weight and even then it's was about a .5 increase. But sure I'll take that. Lol.

Best wishes to everyone!

I was always under the impression that it's the deficit you create that determines weight loss. That's why some ppl can sit in thier butt's day after day and eat nothing to lose, while others can eat thier maintenance cal's and burn past that to lose weight. Isn't it the 3500 cal deficit your looking for to drop a lb no matter how you get there? Although don't get me wrong dieting w/o exercise can mess up your metabolism.

I do both. You might also try this, for anywhere between one day to one week, (depending on how soon you want to lose the weight), of decreasing your cals by only 100. Once you get used to that drop it down another 100 for the next couple of days or week. That's kind of what I have to do when I'm trying to get restarted. The decrease kills me at first, but I do eventually get used to it.

Thanks so much!! I think all of the advice on here was very helpful!!!! I do agree that it has to be eaten sooner rather than later, but then again anything remotely sweet in my house after two days goes in the trash anyway. I'm going to give it a try. I also just read since posting this that canned pumpkin can be used in the place of the oil, eggs or water. I'm not too sure about it though. Anyone done that?

Also, has anyone ever tried the diet coke or diet sprite trick? I tired it in banana bread recipe. I regretted not going with diet sprite instead of the diet coke because I couldn't get it out of my mind that all I was tasting was D coke. But It still did the trick. For those who don't know about it, you subsitute all added ingredients for one can of diet coke or diet sprite. The texture was great!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey, sorry to keep bringing this topic up but I thought maybe some of you that use flax seed could help me with this. So they say it doesn't last long or keep well. How long is not long and when do I know to throw it away? Will it smell or dry out? Mine has been in the fridge for two weeks and still taste great.

Get "Bob's Red Mill Organic Flaxseed Meal

it's the best! it's not low-fat. you don't really want to get a low-fat version. sort of defeats the purpose. all those omega-3 fats in it are so good for you. good for your skin, your digestion, and your metabolism! flaxseed promotes weight loss actually. and it's delicious.

That's actually exactly what I bought today. I had a huge spoon in a bowl of chili tonight, didn't even know it was there. I'm very excited about giving it a try. I thought I'd start with 1 tblsp and work my way up to 2. Do you store yours in the fridge? I thought it was fairly inexpensive too compared to what I had looked at online.

Thanks everyone!!!

you don't need a lower calorie flax seed, as you need so little of it. 5g is plenty- i think sometimes i only use 2g. i like the texture on salads, and a little goes a long way. its also good added to breakfast cereals, or topped over cream cheese.

don't worry about the calories, you wont use enough for it to blow your daily allowance, as the above posters have pointed out- the health benefits outway the calories.

sorry i can't help about where to buy it .... i live in the UK, so no help there.

Enjoy Smile

That sounds wonderful & thanks. But for the record I wasn't concerned with the cal's just the fat, but I get that it's a healthy fat and I'm fine with it. I just don't know what I'm looking for and would love to hear about some of the success and/or failure youve had with it.

Thanks!! :)

I saw the Chia seed. I don't have a grinder so I need to buy something pre ground. Did you experience any type of stomach upset or anything else you want to warn me about? I have a very sensitive stomach.

Also, could you please tell me what department of the grocery store you find it in? I don't have a whole foods but I've heard that Publix carries it probably pre bagged.

Kate, I commend you on admitting to being an alcoholic. I think the rest is silly no nonsense BS so I'm not going to comment on it.

I'm on your side girl so don't get mad at me for saying this but I'm going to have to agree that an alcoholic can NEVER drink casually. And the fact that you are testing this and proud of yourself for stopping before becoming completely sloshed isn't really saying alot for yourself or future binge drinking.

Stay in therapy and work on your sobriety. It all starts with just one drink and I think you know this.

One last lil thought, if you were really doing so well you would have gone out with those friends and had none, you know?

Best wishes to u.

Funny because I too have used it to try to get motivated about things. Such as a major house cleaning right before company. I would scrub the walls, the tubs, the floors etc., etc., etc....

There are two major problems with this, and btw I am currently trying not to drink at all. But for me I began to associate certain behavior with certain actions, so lets say my house needs a good scrub down or my sister calls and wants to chat for 2 hours about nothing, those actions would drive me to almost feel like I had to have a drink in my hand to do those things. And rather you actually stop at that one drink or continue until you pass out you are still setting patterns for the future.

And trust me nobody loves a good glass of wine or an ice cold beer more than me but I also recently learned that just ONE lil beer per night can add up to 10-15 lbs per yr. And that doesn't even include the after drinking munchies, the hangover binge days, missing your work out the next day ...etc., etc., etc...

I say if you can help it "just say NO." But if it's a must a glass of wine is better than a glass of beer.

Thanks for posting this. Just typing all that out has helped to remind me why I will not drink today, although each and everyday is a new struggle. :)

Best wishes!!

I wish I had the answers and was glad to read about the elctrolites since I had never thought about that, but I STILL get very nauseus after a good work out and I've been back in the gym for 1 1/2 yrs now. I always eat a complex carb 1 -  1 1/2 hrs previous and I always follow with a protein shake then a light meal within an hr of that and I'm not drastically reducing cals either so I think I've eliminated alot of other things.

Maybe you & I both should discuss it with our doctors. :(

Weight Loss 1000 Calorie Defecit Sep 27 2009
14:55 (UTC)

I do think 2500 cal deficit is extreme but without knowing his/her stats we can not determine that for him/her. For someone who weighs a bit more, is extremly tall, has more muscle mass or just started a vigorous work out that may not be big at all. I think the important thing here is rather or not you are getting enough cals, the right cals ...etc. Deficits are as individual as we are.
