| Pregnancy & Parenting | How many calories do I need if I'm pregnant? | May 08 2008 18:20 (UTC) |

You need to talk to your OB about this, I was overweight with my last pregnancy, so they allowed me to stay around 1500- but obviously the health and well being of the baby are too important to just guess on this one. Your OB should easily be able to look at your BMI and determine the right balance for you to grow that baby. Oh and .... Congratulations!!! :) |

I am someone who is extremely sensitive to MSG- it triggers very, very bad migraine headaches in me, especially while I am pregnant, so I have completely removed it from my diet. I have removed the food additive MSG I should say, there is a naturally occuring version, especially in mushrooms, that is nearly impossible to completely avoid. That being said though, unless you are unfortunate enough to have the same problem that I do, you are probably fine to eat it in small amounts. I agree with gi-jane that MSG is primarily found in foods that you would not want to over eat anyhow. |

| Foods | How do you eat healthy on a budget? | May 04 2008 23:48 (UTC) |

I have a family of five to feed on a single income- so I know about budgeting. I agree with the sales ad advice- the Sunday paper is the best place to look. I also would suggest shopping at a Costco or Sam's club for staples that you will use over and over- like macaroni or rice or whatever. I also use the Kraft website for recipes, they have a healthy eating section, hundreds of recipes with the nutritional breakdown on each one, and for someone who is learning to cook these receipes are mostly simple and easy to follow. Someone suggested making a list ahead of time, this is easily done there too, as they have an option that will convert any recipes you are going to make into a list that you can print. LOL- I sound like a kraft ad, but, I lost 25 pounds using their website before I got pregnant this last time, so its a great tool. |

I had a baby on March 14th- and 3 weeks later I went to the ocean with my 4 year old and 2 year old (we live in Florida). Do I look good in a swim suit? Heck no. Did I wear one anyway? Heck yes. Why? Because I came to the realization that no matter how I look, I refuse to let that stop me from enjoying my life, or waste what precious little time I have with my kids. I am sure there were those who took one look at me and thought "gross" or whatever. But I am sure it never crossed my kids minds once. I am working on my weight, and I will lose that baby fat, I have before. But I didn't have a sign around my neck that said "Dont judge me I just gave birth" and I don't need one- anyone who was judging me was obviously not enjoying splashing in the ocean like we were, we had a blast. Go have some fun, you will remember what you did, not what size you wore. Life is too short to worry about something like that, and you are healthy- so just be proud of yourself. |
