To be able to wear my wedding ring.  Not to have muffin top.

Likewise...I can shove it on my fat finger, but it drives me crazy a lot of the time because my fingers will swell and I can't stand the tight feeling.

To stop feeling like I'm wearing a fat suit.

To be able to take a shower again with my husband...the mb shower is on the small side...so we both don't fit comfortably.  :(

To feel comfortable in a coach airplane seat! Took a recent trip to Italy and the overseas flight almost killed me.  :(

The rest of my reasons are just normal everyday reasons.  :)

Sorry for being MIA lately...  I haven't really been weighing much.  Two weeks ago I was at 220, TOM ended and I dropped to 218.  :)  Last weekend I wasn't very good with my sodium and ended up back where I started...but I have gotten back down to 219 for the last couple of days.  The weekend should be challenging, but I'll be active as well...so hopefully that will balance some of it out.  :)

So my total weight lost since we've started is 4lbs.  Going to get back to eating well again!

Olives....mmm, I love black olives.  Not as crazy about green.

Challenges for the weekend...probably so.  I'm off to my grandma's for a big family get together.  There will be big breakfasts, a fish fry, cookout, homemade icecream...you get the drift.  I'm just going to stick to the "everything in moderation" motto for the weekend and make sure and take some walks.  :)

Enjoy the weekend, and dare I say it?  God Bless the U.S.A!

First of all....congratulations on your success, keep up the great work!

I completely understand where you are coming from.  About a year ago I quit going to the gym.  I just didn't want to be there anymore.  My fiancee wanted me to come back, but the more he asked me to, the more I didn't want to go.  Even though he never said as much, it made me feel like he thought I was overweight...(which I was!).  Point being, I didn't feel like doing anything until it was my decision and he finally dropped it.  You have to do this for you, it's the only thing that will truly motivate you to keep it up.  My fiancee was trying to help in his own way, but he sometimes doesn't get how to truly help me.  Normally, I just need someone to listen, not tell me what I should do or how to fix it.  I had to talk to him about what was going on and how what he said made me feel.  He wasn't trying to make me feel bad.  So, first of all, talk with him and make sure he understands how his comments make you feel.  Also, ask him to explain what he meant.

If his behavior continues, then I would re-asses why you are with someone who doesn't treat you with respect.

Hey all!  Welcome all newbies to the group!  Sorry I haven't been very diligent on posting lately.  Just been plugging away here.  TOM was last week and I wasn't really logging weight and such.  After it was done, I was down to 218...woot, woot...but haven't been doing very well with eating.  Back up to 219 to 220...hopefully some of it is water weight from too much sodium!  I've been really tired lately, so I'm trying to clean up my diet again and mix some things up with maybe less exercise or better sleep.  Hope I get out of my funk soon.  Looking forward to the long weekend, that's for sure!  The office is barren this week...so it's been kind of hard to convince myself to work hard, lol!

A past QOD:  How do I stay on track?  For me it's just about every day being a new day.  I have had many days when I haven't done the best food wise, or I haven't wanted to exercise.  I just get up the next day and say today will be better!  Some days it's really difficult, but I don't have another choice unless I want to be like this for the rest of my life!

QOD 07/02/08:  Are you incoporating more activity (exercise) into your lifestyle change or are you mostly just eating a calorie deficit without exercising?

I could definetely just lose weight without moving more...but that's not what makes me feel good.  I've been playing on a softball team, sand volleyball, and jogging/walking 2-3 times per week.  I have gotten to the point where I have to jog a lot more to keep my heart rate in the cardio range...so I can tell I'm getting into better cardiovascular shape!  :)  Also, the more I exercise, the more I can play around with my food intake.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but depending on your body fat %, a safe rate of loss is 1% of your body weight....which for you right now is 1.87 lbs a week.

I don't know how tall you are...but might I suggest checking out this site to find out your BMR.  http://www.phord.com/cc/  You really don't want to eat below that amount.

For your best results, try eating as clean as you can stand.  Eat plenty of veggies, fruits, lean protein sources, and fiber.  :)  Don't forget the water.

Good luck!

QOD: June 18- I love pickles :)  My grandma has always made sweet pickles and relish...yummy!  I love dill as well though.  Bread and butter are not my favs...but I can still appreciate them.  :)  I don't eat all that many pickles anymore because of their sodium content though.  :(

Katie-like everyone else, I can't get up early enough to do my running in the morning.  I save mine for evening...lately, it's been towards sunset (which I know my fiancee hates!)  I wish I could make myself get up earlier...but evening works for me.

Keep at it everyone!  I know it's frustrating, but rememeber the less fat you have and the less you have to lose...the slower the weight is going to come off.  1-2 lbs per week is healthy weight loss so be proud!

Lol...I'm using today for my weigh in.  Had a rough week last week, but things will be better this week.  :)

It was a rough week for me.  I felt really tired all week, even though I was getting enough sleep and food.  (So, my sleep isn't generally good sleep, but I am in bed for 7-8 hours).  I only walked for 2 days this week and played sports for 2.  Took Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday off from walking/jogging.  :(  So, no loss for me this week...but no gain either.

Topic of the day for yesterday:  I had a sandwich with 5 slices of deli sliced turkey, 1 tbs of Miracle Whip, piece of provolone cheese, honey mustard, on Mrs. Baird's double the fiber bread.  I was desperately missing my sprouts...the sandwich was kind of boring without them.  Also had an orange and 1/2 a large red pepper...with water of course!  Yes, I did exercise.  I went out just before an ugly storm came through.  Managed to get in 40 minutes of walking jogging.  It was so funny, a lot of people were out around the neighborhood (looking at the sky since it was possible tornado weather) and they all were concerned for my safety.  :)  Didn't take my normal lunch walk, so didn't quite burn as much as I would have liked for yesterday...but that's ok.

Topic of the day for today (06/13/08):  What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Mine are raw red peppers, a piece of fruit, a serving of non-fat frozen yougurt with berries, or a serving of microwave popcorn.  For a few more calories I like a piece of my double fiber bread with 1 tbs of natural peanut butter and 1 tbs of apricot spreadable fruit (preserves).  Not quite as healthy but fits in my calorie plan is 6 crackers with two wedges of Laughing Cow light cheese...yum!

Enjoy your healthy snacking day.  :)

I meant to post yesterday but ran out of time.  First off...CONGRATULATIONS MOLLY!!!  What an achievement!  You are truly inspiring.  :)

Today I did my morning "step on the scale" routine.  I moved the stupid thing back from the wall another inch.  I've heard that this messes with the accuracy of the scale, don't know if it's true or not for digital scales...and I kind of think that's true.  The first time I stepped on it said 215.8 or something crazy like that.  (Why do I say crazy?  Just yesterday it said 220.2...so 4.4 lb loss in one day, I don't think so!)  Second, third, and fourth times it said 218.8....which still doesn't seem right.  Tried one more time after I got ready and dressed for work and it was 219.4.  So I'm not really trusting the scale today.

On a plus, exercise has been going pretty well.  Didn't walk for as long as I originally wanted to yesterday, but worked harder instead.  Walked/jogged/ran repeat for 22 minutes burning over 300 calories...It really wore me out and felt good to mix it up a bit.

QOD 06/12/08:  I'm using garlic and rosemary quite a bit.  Other than that I really enjoy Mrs. Dash garlic & herb blend.  :)

HMM...my tricks to get motivated to get moving?

For me I just had to get out and DO IT!  The first couple of weeks it was hard for me to walk everyday or let's say 4-5 days a week.  I bought a heart rate monitor and that really motivated me, being able to see what I am burning.  At work one of my coworker's and I walk durring lunch.  It helps to have someone else keep me accountable for that time.  :)  Part of it is just making it part of your routine so it's just another part of your day.

On days that I just don't have the energy...I think of it as my body's was of saying today isn't going to work.  But the only reason I let myself not exercise is because I do exercise 5-6 days a week now and need at least one day off.

:)

For today's discussion:  don't know if this has been done yet or not...

What are your reasons for making a healthy lifestyle change?

Mine are a plethera...

1.  To feel more comfortable in my own skin again.

2.  To make sure weight won't be a factor in getting pregnant.

3.  To not feel like a "whale" in my wedding dress...lol!

4. To be able to walk up the stairs without being out of breath.

5. So my thighs stop ruining pants!

6. To be a healthier, more energetic version of myself!

7.  To be physically able to get back into a more adventurous sex life.

8.  To feel confident enough to wear a bikini again.

9. To be able to go shopping anywhere I want!

I'm sure I could go on...but we'll stop there.  Have a wonderful day all!

Tasty...I plugged your info into this site http://www.phord.com/cc/

putting that you were very active.  I don't know the intensity levels of your excercise, but it sounds like you are very active.  I would think that you shouldn't go below 1700 calories...so maybe it's just that you are eating too little.  The site I listed states that you should eat 1757 calories a day and that your safety deficit is 825.  It can give you more accurate results if you know your body fat %.

Hope this helps...keep it up, you can do it!

Good for you nycolea!

As for the topic of the day for yesterday...Do I think I'll be happy when I reach my goal weight?

Actually, yes I do.  Like jbalicki, I am happy with my life in general.  So many things are wonderful right now.  I'm just uncomfortable with what I have let myself become.  Being healthier and having more energy will make it so much easier to do the things in life I want...like having children!  I was so confident a few years ago...I'm still a confident person, just not as much in social settings.  I would like to get that back.

weekend QOD:  My salad's generally consist of leafy lettuce with spinach, or romaine with spinach...mushrooms, green peppers, grape tomatoes, low fat cheese, grilled chicken, and either low fat ranch dressing or a "Salad Spritzer".  Pretty traditional here.

QOD 06/09/08:  Too true!  I can say that I was the same way over the past year.  I quit wanting to go to the gym last summer.  Only managed to make myself go a few times over the past year really.  I'm not back at the gym, but I am exercising...I had to make myself do it at first...but now I feel better about it and want to keep it up.  Had to just do it!  lol

I'm really making great improvements in my level of exercise lately.  It helps to be playing sand volleyball on Monday nights and co-ed softball on Sunday evenings.  (Softball was a lot more fun this week!  We tied 10-10 and everyone really played hard so it was a great time!)  Took 1 to 2 hour walk/jogs Wed, Thurs, and Friday this week.  I actually even had to work harder to be in my fat burning zone on Friday...so that was exciting!  Today was my official weigh in date: LW: 221 CW: 220.

Keep up the great work everyone!
