Read the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. It explains a lot about men and how they think differently then women. Upbringing only affects so much, their brains are actually wired differently from women's brains due to evolution.

I've been hitting the goodwill too because I went from wearing a 1x to wearing Mediums/Larges depending on the manufacturer. So it's definately nice to supplement the wardrobe with a few inexpensive second hand items.

It's nice to wear clothes that fit because then you get admired for the weight loss ;)

Be careful about getting dehydrated. If your flu goes beyond the two days without you being able to keep anything down, call your doctor and see if he can get you a prescription for anti-nausea pills. I had a four day flu one time and finally went to the doctor by the fourth day (I was actually not comotose on the couch by then and able to keep some stuff down) and he said I should have come in by the third day because of the risk of dehydration.

I didn't log any calories this weekend because of the holiday. Just decided to give myself two days off from it (without going too far overboard) and then start logging again this morning. My reasoning behind it was I didn't want to see how many calories I did eat over the weekend in case I got depressed and quit altogether. (Psyching myself out here) But I was proud of myself, ate out at restaurants and only ate half of the meals and no desert. I'm sure I'll see a weight gain because they put so much salt in restaurant food. But I know it should only be temporary.

I wouldn't worry about it utahangel, as long as it's not a regular habit, you should be fine. :-D

Congratulations! Terrific job. It's great to set small goals for yourself (like 10% of your current weight). Guys lose faster than the girls too (so we get jealous of you guys), so that's good news for you. Just don't forget to stick with the healthy eating habits once you've reached your goal weight. Good luck!
Weight Loss Diet pills and if they really work? Apr 17 2006

I don't take diet pills because the one time I did try them I had a bad reaction. I don't think they are worth it. Especially when the prescription kind, in clinical trials only result in a 16% total body weight loss. I want to lose more weight than that.

Everyone's body is differently and you really won't know if it works unless you try it for yourself. But be realistic about it. They won't make you lose weight as rapidly as they claim they will.

To be honest, you are going to have a really hard time sticking with this I think, especially if you are accurately tracking calories. The foods you seem to like to eat take up less volume in your stomach for the calories they have and therefore you eat more of them to fill you up. I think one problem you may run across is that you get hungry quite often. A few suggestions

Try adding a high fiber cereal to your diet. The bulky fiber will help keep you fuller longer plus it's got lots of nutrients your body needs. It's healthy for your heart by lowering cholesteral plus it reduces your risk of getting colon cancer.

If you've got to eat pre-packaged nukable foods, try to choose something from Healthy Choice, Weight Watchers Smart Ones, Lean Cuisine or even Michelina's Lean Gourmet. There are lots of yummy pasta varieties and most of them are around the 250 - 300 calorie range per meal. They do fill you up. The only drawback is they tend to be high in sodium so you need to drink extra water, which I'd recommend anyway.

And, most importantly, try to avoid Fast Food restaurants as much as you can because you can really pack on the calories if you aren't careful.

Good luck!

For years I didn't even know I had migraines. I thought they were just really bad sinus headaches because I have a lot of problems with my sinuses. It wasn't until I was looking up headaches and realized that most of my headaches are either migraines (if I get the flashes of light and the sensativity to light and sound) or tension headaches (where your jaw and back hurts along with the headache). It's easier to keep them from happening if you can figure out what causes them. And stress is definately a possible trigger.

Next time you get that flash of light try taking ibuprofen. For me, I found coffee helped stop it if I drank it in time(it acts as a trigger in some people and makes them worse instead of better). A lot of your headache remedies will contain caffeine. I've heard chocolate can trigger migraines too.

If you are lucky, it's just a temporary thing and you won't need any kind of medicine for it. Mine are so infrequent and usually don't last more than a day when I get them so I haven't bothered getting a prescription. I just usually go to bed and the headache goes away after I sleep for a while.
The Lounge Logging.... Apr 14 2006

I think the first week I was here I logged my activities like a mad woman. But then I got tired of doing it because I'm on dial up and it takes aaaaaaages to do. Now I only log any actual exercise I do. I figure once you've done it for a few days you get an idea of how many calories you burn just doing normal stuff and it really doesn't change much unless you exercise.

Yes I caved in today. I had potato chips and part of a chocolate bar and a couple of cheese crackers. i'm trying soooo hard not to eat more junk food. it seems like once you start it's soooo hard to stop. I was surprised to find out I wasn't over my calorie limit for the day.

Seeing flashes of light or zig zag patterns of light can be a warning signal of an oncoming migraine. i get them. Usually my migraines make me sensative to light and sound and I get dizzy and have to lie down. Sometimes they make me nauseous but I've never been sick to my stomach. They are very painful headaches.

If this is a new onset, go see your doctor right away. I don't want to scare you, but that can also be a sign of something far more serious such as a tumor or mild stroke. So it's nothing to mess around with. Hopefully it's nothing serious. But you should get it checked out asap.

Edited to add this link http://www.4woman.gov/faq/migraine.htm which will tell you seeing zig zag patterns of light is a symptom of a "Classic Migraine"

I think as long as you treat it as a lifestyle change and not a temporary diet to lose weight fast you should be fine. It's when we go back to our old habits of eating too much and being sedentary that we end up regaining the weight.

Someone posted a calorie breakdown of what your organs need to function on a daily basis in the Lost 40 pounds in I forget how many weeks it was thread.

Anyway, if you burn through added exercise as much as you eat, then you go into starvation mode because you don't have enough left over for your organ systems to function.

I wouldn't "pretend" I never ate it simply because you are giving yourself an excuse do to it again. In the back of your mind you'll be thinking "well I got away with doing that last time and nothing bad happened so I'll do it just one more time" and then one more time turns into two more times and so on and soon you are doing it on a regular basis!

Log it in, exercise, use it as a learning experience. :)

I think sometimes you crave food when you study just because you are used to having something in your mouth. Try the tea and also keep handy sugar free gum for the chewing urges and also what I found helped me was to gnaw on straws or toothpicks. It sounds weird but it kind of helps get rid of the urge to keep putting things in your mouth. Brushing your teeth can help turn off your appetite supposedly because of the minty taste. I know if I brush my teeth right after supper I am much less likely to go for that snack before bed.

Do they let you have drinks while you are on your shift? Maybe it might help if you had one of those nutrition supplement drinks (like Ensure or even Slim Fast). The extra vitamins in it might help boost your energy too and it sounds like you could use the extra calories. I bet you are always on the go as a waitress. In your case I'd definately eat when I got home, just because you burn so many calories at work constantly moving.

You probably lost some fat and a lot of water weight. I've heard up to the first 21 pounds you lose can be water weight if you lose rapidly in the beginning. But don't get discouraged. The more permanant weight loss will soon follow. You'll find your weight loss will slow down to the usual 1 to 2 pounds in a few weeks or less.

Congratulations on making the decision to get healthy!

At a young age, she might not have too much problem with the skin. But when you are older, if you lose weight rapidly, the skin doesn't have time to respond. That's why a lot of people who have gastric bypasses also end up getting rhinoplasty (I hope I spelled that right) to remove all that excess skin.

And losing weight that rapidly is just asking for painful digestive problems like gallstones. I bet some people don't read the warning posts that followed. They are more interested in the lose weight quick statement. I worry they are going to have serious and sometimes painful health problems later. :(

I guess it's like smoking. As long as you enjoy it and get pleasure from it and doing it outweighs the bad effects from it, you are going to keep doing it. But once you get chronic bronchitis or emphysema you decide maybe it's not such a good thing after all. The only problem is, by then the damage is already done.

I'm glad you found an eating plan that works for you and your sensative digestive system. I couldn't do a diet such as that (too many food allergies, like Brazillian nuts, they make my throat swell not to mention I'm allergic to citrus, including lemons).

I wish you all the success in the world and I hope that it keeps working well for you. :)
Weight Loss Lost 40 lbs in just 4 weeks! Apr 12 2006

Hmmm let's do some math. If the maximum amount of FAT the human body can lose is 3 pounds per week, that's 3x6=18. So you lost a maximum of 18 pounds of fat in six weeks (based on scientific evidence). But you had a total weight loss of 40 lbs. 40-18=22. You lost 22 pounds of water, bone mass, lean muscle tissue, and organ tissue during your six weeks. Now if we take the average amount of fat lost per person per week which is 2 pounds that makes 2x6=12. 40-12=28. 28 pound loss that was not a fat loss.

Just pointing out some mathematical facts. :)

I find I do best when I don't eat the same number of calories every day. My allowance is 1350 and I rarely ever eat exactly that amount. I'm usually over one day, and under the next. It just seems to be the way it's going. It also seems to keep my body out of starvation mode. Doing that has gotten me off my plateau.

Hmm, for the chicken, pick breast meat portions and pick off all the fried outer skin. Still not as good for you as baked chicken but...

At bbq's and stuff I just have a spoonful of this and that and a small portion of desert, or I just eat a few bites of desert. Just be careful about how much stuff you are eating and don't go too far overboard. I think that day counts as a maintenance day, don't you? ;)
