If you do not drink enough liquids, it does not matter how much fibre you eat. The fiber will end up constipating you.

| Weight Loss | Stretch-marks and saggy skin? | Feb 27 2009 21:04 (UTC) |
6 |
In 2 years I gained about 30 pounds. It then took me the last year to lose 40 pounds. I am now left with stretch marks on my boobs (clear and shinny looking) and stomach (pink). My boobs are also a bit lower and a different shape; a lot flatter then they were a few years ago when I weighed this much. Last summer, after losing 20 pounds relatively fast, the skin on my stomach was sort of lose, but after time and doing a lot stomach crunches it is now firm, tight and toned.
Good luck!!

| Foods | Does anyone drink a protein shake after working out? | Jan 22 2009 20:55 (UTC) |

I always have whey protein after a work-out or a long walk (min. 1 hour). It has helped me build a lot of muscle. I have also lost some weight by doing this. It really has helped shape my body. Sometimes, like others, I add a bit of fruit (1/2 cup), strawberries, blackberries, 1/2 banana, etc. I also need the help, I eat very little meat (I use to be vegetarian for 13 years), so I usually don't get the required min. amount of protein each day without it. And, because of this, also gives me more motivation to work-out because I only have whey protein after a work-out.

| Weight Loss | Is it REALLY not possible to lose weight while gaining muscle. | Jan 21 2009 19:50 (UTC) |
9 |
For me, I have lost a few pounds while lifting weights and doing strength training. But, that has been over last last 6 months. I have however, gained a lot of muscle and lost inches everywhere. It is not important what the scale is telling you - it is how your body is changing. Someone said it already, measure yourself, you will see a difference. The reason it is not reflected on the scale is because muscle weighs more then fat. If you lose fat and gain muscle, you might even gain a couple of pounds, but be skinnier.

| Weight Loss | Sedentary? Or not? | Jan 18 2009 04:20 (UTC) |
3 |
I am had the same dilemma when I signed up last April. I am also sitting on my rear most of the day. I put myself as sedentary and just log in my walks (if 30 minutes or longer) and my exercising. My thinking is, I would rather burn more calories in a day and not know it, then use the setting as lightly active and think I am burning more calorie then I am. It only takes me an extra 1 minute or less a day to enter my activities.

| Weight Loss | "curvy" fit jeans - a form of vanity sizing? | Dec 19 2008 04:22 (UTC) |
15 |
Over the past few decades the sizes are getting larger. When I was 20 and only weighed between 100 to 105 pounds max, I wore a size small. Now at 32, I weight 119 pounds and wear a size small. And there are new sizes, x-small and x-large. That is an example of vanity sizing. However, I can only speak for the GAP here though... the "curvy" fit pants and jeans at the GAP are not a new vanity sizing. They have more room in the hips and thighs, to fit women who have a more hourglass shape or pear shape. That is all. A lot of women that are hourglass shape (like me) or pear shaped have a really hard time finding pants that fit properly because our waists are much smaller then our hips. Most stores only carter to women who are built like stick figures. What I mean by this is, women who have a waist and hips that are similar in size. In the GAP pants, the waists are the same size (curvy fit vs. regular fit), it is the hip and tight area that is slightly larger. You assume that if someone who has a small waist and larger hips should just buy that larger size pants to fit. You are mistaken. What often hapens then... is that the pants then fit in the hips and thighs but the waist is 1 to 3 inches too big (and have a large gap in the back of the waist band where you can stick a fist inbtween your body and the pants). That means, they DO NOT fit. Stores are making these pants because women have different body shapes, something that manufactures of clothing lines ignored before. Why should women how have small waist have to buy pants that are too small and binding in the hips and/or thighs or buy ones too big in the waist and then have to spend $20 to $30 to have then professionally altered to make the waist a lot smaller? Now, after reading this... Do you still think that "curvy" fit pants are "VANITY" sizing??? I would love people to respond to this.

She has it right. Also a great money saving tip go to a Bulk Food Store. I buy my dried beans by bulk. You would be amazed how much dried beans you can get for just a few dollars. Bulk food stores, have flour (you can bake your own bread and snacks, cheaper then buying processed foods (+ a lot healthier) + you might find it fun, I do). They have snacks, dried fruits, nuts etc. Good Luck!!

| Foods | Only fruit for breakfast? | Dec 12 2008 21:37 (UTC) |
16 |
A great breakfast is plain baking oats (plain oatmeal, no sugar or anything added), with fresh fruit (pear, blackberries, strawberries, Gigi berries, etc.). I usually have 1/3 cup Robin Hood Baking Oats, with 1/2 or 1 cup of fruit or 1/2 or 1 banana or 1/2 a pear (I don't add honey or sugar, but I sometimes add spices - YUM). If you find that to be too plain, add some honey for sweetness, cinnamon, nutmeg etc. It is very filling, high in fibre, minerals and vitamins, etc. I find that if I just eat fruit for breakfast, I am hungry an hour later. I eat every three hours. This breakfast fills me for the three hours, and when I had to wait longer to eat, I still was satisfied.

I eat really healthy everyday, I still have some sweets (I love baking), but I keep within my calories range everyday and make sure I have a nutrition rating less then a B or a B+. Almost everyday my rating is an A. I eat mostly vegetables, fruit and whole grains. But, one day a week, Friday or Saturday, I can eat whatever I want and the rating and calorie intake doesn't matter. I have a weekness for Sour Cream n' Onion Ruffle Chips. Sometimes I might eat a whole bag, I don't care. I have lost over 30 pounds while doing this. I eat between 1300 to 1400 calories a day. On my cheat day, I might eat around 3000, sometimes more. It is a planed binge. I love it. Without that day, I wounldn't have lost all the weight that I have. I would be junking-out all the time.

What have you eaten today? The grade is also about what you are eating. Eating a lot of fruit and vegetables will give you a higher grade.

If you are working-out, whey protein is a good lean source. I use Whey Iso from GNC after a work-out. One serving (2 scoops) is 40 grams of protein, 170 calories, only a few carbs., no sugar or fat and lactose free. Whey protein is derived from milk. These are differnt types of proetin supplements. You can also buy soy protein power. You can add these to milk or water, add fruit and/or vegetables in a blender, etc.

I am 5 4" and weigh 120 pounds and wear a size 2 or 4 depending on the store. Don't listen to people who give you negative comments. They are not worth it. Maybe you should think about why they might be saying these things to you. They might just be jealous of you for some reason unknown to you. Or perhaps, think about hanging around with more positive people. Good luck.

The pill does have the same effect as the oil because the pill (only ones I have used or seen) are gel capsules containing the flax oil. You can find them at health food stores, drug stores and some grocery stores.

Hi, I met my Boyfriend, February 2007, I weighed 142 pounds (I was 30 years and 5'4"). I gained 10 pounds by Christmas 2007. I started losing weight in February 2008, now I weight 118 pounds + gained a lot of muscle from working out and lifting weights. My boyfriend went from 210 (46 years old and 6'3") to 245 in 8 months. Now he weighs 225 pounds. He lost it in about 4 months. My brother and his girlfriend both gained 20-30 + pounds in the last year, but they eat a lot of unhealthy foods and don't exercises - they don't even walk anywhere. My brother is now considered to be obese and his girlfriend is now overweight, she use to be very thin. |

I use to feel sick almost all the time. I had a lot of cold, stomach aches, headaches, I felt like I had the flu all the time. Now, I feel great. I have more energy, only been sick once in the past 6 months or so. I eat mostly fruit, vegetables, whole grains, tofu and whey protein supplements. I still eat some junk food. I keep it to a bare minimum. My weakness is sour candies - I no longer have a weakness for Sour Cream & Onion Ruffle Chips. They don't even taste good anymore.

What you have said is absolutely true. A good tip - when I make Indian food at home, I substitute 1/2 or more of the oil or butter for unsweetened applesauce. It doesn't change the taste of the food because of the spices. And will cut down on the calories and fat. Also, when baking, you can substitute the oil or butter for unsweetened apple sauce too.

I love Indian Food. So, when I go to an Indian Restaurant when I get home I just estimate what I ate; i.e. 1/2 cup spinach, 1 cup baked potato, 1/2 cup white rice, 3/4 cup mixed vegetables, 2 tablespoons peanut oil, 1/4 naan, etc. I find this to be the easiest thing to do. It may take a few minutes to log and only be an estimate. But, what can you do? Your not going to find Aloo Bhajis or Sagg Aloo in the CC food log. Oh, I was wrong. Some Indian food, if you know what you ate, you can find here.

Beans - Beans are a great cheap way to get nutrients and lost of protein. Can of beans only cost from less then $1 to about $2. Sometimes for dinner, I will eat a whole can of Heinz bean in Tomato Sauce (cost about $0.79), about 450 calories, lots of protein (you need 50 grams a day or more) and tastes good. I love them.

| Weight Loss | Vitamins and Low Cal Diet | Jul 11 2008 21:01 (UTC) |

In short.. Your body (for a female) requires 1,200 calories a day to function properly. All those calories go directly to your organs, heart, etc. If you are not getting 1,200 calories a day, your body will start to use you muscles for fuel. If you continuously eat less then 1,200 calories day, you will lose weight, not from burning fat, but from burning your muscle. You can become skinny. However, you will be a skinny fat person. Just bones and fat. No muscle. + You will become very unhealthy.

| Weight Loss | Cholesterol: | Jul 09 2008 20:16 (UTC) |

All cholesterol isn't bad for you. The CC meter calculates all your daily cholesterol - it adds the good cholesterol and the bad together. It is just as important to have low bad cholesterol, as it is to have high good cholesterol. Foods with good cholesterol are: Omega 3 fatty acids - from flax and fish oil Almonds tofu There are also many foods that you can eat that will lower your bad cholesterol: oatmeal bran olive oil I had my cholesterol levels checked a few months ago. I have very low bad cholesterol and high good cholesterol. I take fish oil supplements everyday (2 to 4 day of Omega 3 and Omega 3-6-9), I also eat 10 almonds almost everyday. This is also due to, that I do not eat red meat and use soy milk, not regular milk. I also put ground whole flax into my meals (add to already cooked or heated soup, pastas, sauces cereal, etc.) If you are concerned, you should make an appointment with your Doctor to have you cholesterol levels checked. And go for there. |
