hi guys, I am at 174 this morning. I haven't been eating like I should. We have 3 storms coming our way and I am a wreck. Hannah may cause some rain but nothing major. Ike is the Cat 4 I am fearing. The other one is still way out there so no panic time yet.

I must start exercising again. It's been like 2 weeks - I just haven't had the time nor the enrgy. The kids have projects galor to do and they are all due at the same time - go figure.

dad is doing ok, he's tired from the heat but his tumor hasn't moved nor grown so we are ok for another 3 months.

sun123    I'm an insurance agent - what happened and what kind of insurance do you have? If the accident was your fault you will be charged with "points" on your insurance but if your company has accident forgiveness, your 1st accident won't count.

We have been dealing with Fay and today we had sunshine for the 1st time in a week. We are so flooded and there are so many mosquitoes outside. We had some damage to the roof and garage but we all survived and we can fix the house.

the kids started school on Monday and then Tues Fay hit so they were home, went on Wednesday, off again on Thurs b/c of the flooding, and then went back on Friday. So far the kids are ok except for Austin. With his ADHD a change in his schedule (going back to school) has caused him to have outbursts and he is very down on himself b/c he doesn't read as fast as others. I tried to explain we are all different but that didn't help. I hope that once he gets back into a routine he'll calm down

Dad is ok. His tumor hasn't grown nor shifted so we are lucky once again. Fay did cause his nose to bleed and his ears to hurt but all in all we are ok.

I am at 175 this morning. That is b/c I couldn't eat much this past week with the storm and dad and the kids. I also have excersised which I am not happy with.

Work is tough. We haven't written any new business and that means an even smaller paycheck. I am very worried how I am going to pay for everything but I jusy have to believe God will make a way.

I hope everyone is doing well.

littleshellys: I'm sooooo sorry for your loss.

My Dallas died about 2 years ago and he was the greatest dog I ever had. He would call "mom" when he wanted to eat what we had. Of course, he got what he wanted. Couldn't deprive him of his treat for such a great talent.

Pedro is my chihuahua and he eats everything my dad eats. Scruffy is his daughter and she loves Salmon and pizza. Sara is my spaniel and she like cereal & milk the best.

How can you say no to puppy eyes ????

From experience I would suggest taking a few "me time" walks throughout the day.

When I was 12 dad had his 1st heart attack and at 16 he had his 1st stroke. I would make him breakfast & lunch before I left for school and dinner when I got home. I walked to and from school b/c he wasn't supposed to drive. I would clear my thoughts and relax. After dinner I would take another quick walk before getting him ready for bed and so forth. If walking isn't something you like, find another way to have "me time".

Understanding what the process of treatment is is a great help so you don't feel so confused when the condition is talked about.

You are being as helpful as you can and you should be proud of that. None of my friends understood what it was like to take care of your parent at such a young age but it makes you stronger and in the long run, you learn alot about yourself and your inner strength.

I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you.

are you wanting to follow Atkins, South Beach ?????  any meats (watch the sandwich meats - full of sodium), cheeses (make sure they are the low fat kind), fresh veggies like lettuce tomatoes cucumbers.... watch the squashes they can be higher in carbs

you can have no sugar whole wheat bread, low carb pitas

what do you like? that would give me a better idea on what to suggest

have you talked to your Doctor? if the above suggestions do not work, your problem may be a medical issue.

I tried everything out there to help me sleep and then I went to the Dr.. I was given Ambien and after a month - they weaned me off and now I am able to sleep most nites. I still have issues due to stress and so forth so I can take an Ambien only when I need it.

you have to be very careful if you do a full day off. you can undo a whole week in a day.

what I prefer to do is have a free meal either Friday or Saturday. I still exercise those days as well, just allow myself to eat a different kind of meal.

I've been there - actually still am there. I have lost 10lbs in 4 months. Others lose that in one month. I get so discouraged b/c I do what I am supposed to add the weight just stays. I am on Lexapro for anxiety and it does make the lose slower but remember - the turtle wins the race when it comes to being & staying healthy.

Don't weigh yourself everyday - it will drive you up a wall. Pick one day a week and weigh yourself at the same time.

As for exercise, start slowly. You will actually like the feeling you get when you know you walked say a mile or rode a bike a mile..... I lost interest in exercising and I had to start off with 5 minutes on my bike a week. Each week I would increase it by 5 minutes. I am now at 30 minutes twice a day.

As for the weight being a factor, if they can't see your inside beauty now, they're not worth having when you lose the weight!!! You have to believe in yourself and know you are worth loving and that God has created that special someone for you - when it's supposed to happen it will!

Please e-mail me any time. I will be more than happy to "talk" to you. BTW, I am 31 with 4 kids and a sick father - don't exactly see a "come get me" sign on my ass, but I believe that one day there will be a special someone.

what kinds of foods do you like - it makes a difference on what I could suggest

By the way, are you going to stay on Atkins or is this to lose your last bit of weight? If you aren't going to stay on the plan then do not do it since you will gain the weight back if you go back to eating carbs

I don't think you are eating enough. Have you plugged your numbers into the website? How big a calorie defecit is there between what you eat and burn? how much water do you drink?

from experience 2 weeks is not long enough to have your body adjust to your new routine. it take 4 to 6 weeks and even then, if you are gaining muscle and losing fat the scale won't move but your measurements will change.

do not give up - give your body some time to adjust and keep doing what you're doing - .2 is better than nothing

if you treat Atkins like a diet, you will gain the weight back and then some

if you treat Atkins as a way of life you will succeed.

I lived by Atkins for 2+ years and then when mom got real sick and all extra money went for her care, I began eating cheap foods and of course carbs are cheaper than steak. It was either make her comfortable or eat a nice steak.

I am currently doing Atkins/South Beach induction so I can get back on track. If Atkins is too strict there is South Beach. South Beach adds carbs back in a different manner than Atkins. Atkins you add 5 carbs per week. South Beach you can add one serving of a grain and one serving of fruit a day.

As for the apples and enemas - that is not healthy and should never be tried!!!

grocery stores usually have their brand of pasta that is less expensive than the named brands. I like wheat pasta or the Rotini with fiber. Either would be better for you than Ramen.

I didn't see any difference in the way my clothes fit till I lost 10lbs.

Did you take measurements? if not, do so. that way even if you don't see the scale change, you can measure to make sure you are progressing.

As far as what is fat and what is water, under normal circumstances of sitting, standing and walking, unless you just ate or drank some carbohydrates, up to 85% of your energy is coming from fat. Fat is the energy source of choice in a resting body. Even during a marathon 50% of you energy comes from fat. The more you exercise the more fat you burn. The more you control your insulin, the less fat you store.

Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has a lot of waste to get rid of. All that metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water flushes the toxic fat by-products out as waste.

it is water weight. just make sure you watch your sodium intake with Atkins. My friend thought she could eat sandwich meat and similar items by the pound without realizing sodium makes you retain water.

3lbs is a great start - keep up the good work!

I am at 178 today

I eat quite a bit of protien and veggies. I have begun to exercise twice a day versus once - maybe it will help something go somewhere ????

Rachael - biscuits are my downfall so I refuse to go to Red Lobster. You have more willpower than I - congrats on your sucess

kynabug- don't get discouraged. remember you are doing everything you are supposed to. the rest is up to our wonderfully complex bodies. do you drink coffee - one strong cup in the morning usually does it for me :-)

velvetkiss - green tea is a wonderful drink for helping with water weight. be careful it can cause constipation.

Jenna - try the low sodium V8 on ice. it has a smoother flavor and lower sodium. if it still doesn't work for you - maybe consider making your own juice from things you like

sun 123 Thank you for your advise - I will continue on my path of meat and veggies :-)

entersandlady - the wagon is waiting for you to jump back on - sometimes we need a break - who knows, you may lose a pound or so from shaking things up

Have a good day guys

I have anxiety attacks that make me black out. I am on Lexapro and have not had an attack since I started it.

You will have dry mouth when you start it and you will crave carbs in the beginning too. I take mine at nite so if I was to have cravings I am asleep while having them.

I tried to go off of it last year and I ended up in an accident b/c I blacked out. i have been to Drs and counseling and so forth but in my case it is genetic and if I have to take a pill everyday so I am ok - so be it. it's better than the alternative.

emotional eating is the worst part of trying to lose weight. I lost my mom May 28th so I understand what it is like to eat for comfort. What the Dr suggested I do is either take a walk, ride my bike, drink water, type on the computer, clean the house, anything that will keep me busy. He states if you feel an "attack" coming on to do the activity of your choice for 30 minutes. in those 30 minutes you will have hopefull focused your energy elsewhere and won't want to eat excessively.

I also found watching my carbs helped me not want to eat when I am upset. It's no fun to eat brocoli when you're sad - know what I mean?

By all means, e-mail me if you need support

Weight Loss Anyone try the 2-week Atkins diet? Jul 30 2008
21:09 (UTC)

Atkins is not for everyone! I love veggies and meat and mayo, and cheese. Fruit makes me sleepy and I only miss bread during the holidays. Sweets are my downfall but I found cottage cheese and SF jello are great together.

If you like fruit and bread then the South Beach would be more your style. You introduce a piece of bread or starch and a fruit everyday after the 1st 2 weeks.

I am continuing to stay on induction until I lose a reasonable amount of weight. The medication I take for my anxiety is causing my weight loss to be very slow but I cannot live without it.

I think for me - it helps keep me fuller longer. What do you find yucky about it?

I am still on phase one - I only lost 1.5 lbs in 2 weeks so I am staying at the beginning till my body decides it will cooperate.

Any tricks you guys learned to help speed the weight loss? I am drinking lots of water and green tea and my coffee in the morning.

I biked 30 minutes this morning and when I get home I'll bike again for another 30 minutes.

Hope everyone has a great day. Tomorrow is weigh in right?
