I totally understand what you're going thorugh.  I get the same thing at my workplace.  Everyone either jokes that I'm always eating or starting rumors that I'm bulimic (which I'm not).  I've successfully lost 25 pounds by eating well and smartly and exerscising.  What works for me is eating 6 to 8 small meals a day (1500 cals) i.e. an apple for a snack, or 10 almonds, or 17 soy crisps, etc.  The ones who critize or say something are the people who are unhappy with their body image.  And they don't get why we are eating the way we do--or the things we do, I get teased for eating tofu, soy products, counting out my portions, I don't really give a rat's **** because I know the progress I've made and maintained.

these people making the critisims probably have no idea that working out and leading an active lifestyle causes you to get hungry and require certain types of fuel at certain intervals through the day.  We all don't eat processed junk and sit on our fannies all day.  You are doing a great job, next time that loser makes ask him if he wants an apple or if he'd rather have some pork rinds.

I understand your schedule and the eating thing.  One thing I found that helps me is on the weekends I prepare soup or some other home cooked thing I can freeze in portions to bring to work for lunch.  I like to cook for myself because I can control the salt and other ingredients that are being used to make the food.  I also put together a container of big salad full of mixed vegetables and leaves that I can throw together quickly if I am hungry but don't have time to make something.

Robert's Gormet stuff--like Veggie Booty (my favorite) you can view their product line on their website http://www.robscape.com/ ; they're pretty tasty and their baked stuff isn't gross, it tastes good.  Like Baked Tings.  I recommend those too.

Or Soy Crisps--I get the plain sea salt version, which is really good but they make ranch and garlic varities that are good too.

I'm a crunchy eater too and have a hard time about 8-9 PM.  I go the popcorn route but instead of butter I put brewer's yeast on it.  It tastes great!

Your sister in law sounds like an insecure weirdo.  I would give her bogus answers, like if she was prodding me as to what size I am, I'd say I'm a 22 or a -37, both sizes I'm nowhere near.  I don't think there's anything wrong with losing the 8 you brought back on, but it isn't really because of spite, more like you're driven to return to the image of yourself you were content with.  You'll feel better about yourself losing what you put on and not so annoyed by her immature insecure prodding.  After you lose the 8 you are sensitive about the crap she flings will just roll off and won't bother you nearly as much.  And she sounds like a real ****.

breaking_free87 has a funny point too with the "bit too hoochie" comment.  how old is this sister-in law that she has to wear junior clothes?  sounds like she's sensitive about her age too.

And dont' be frustrated about the 8 flucutation.  I'm dealing with a post holiday 8 myself and all you can do is take it day by day.  I found that CC really helps me keep my intake organized, and the support here is the greatest support I've ever found.

Nitrates are present in most deli meat too, I don't know daily consumption of deli turkey and other lean meats is the best if you're consuming nitrates frequently.

I bring salads to work for lunch, a container of chopped veggies and lettuce/spinach mix.  I use salsa instead of dressing (very low cal) and the night before cook up a chicken breast--my grocery store freezer has a bag of about 8 pre-frozen single serve portions for $7, I just lightly season and broil for 10 minutes or so until the meat temp reaches 165F.  Sometimes I add black beans, kidney beans for extra protein.  One ounce of crumbled feta is about 70 cals.  and smwhipples suggestion of eggs is great too.

a lot of heavy metal but mostly TooL...my current playlist for working out is:

Sweat, Hush, Part of Me, Jerk-Off [Live], Intolerance, Prison Sex, Undertow, 4 degrees, Forty Six & 2, Hooker With a Penis, Jimmy, Parabola, Vicarious

I know the song titles seem to be a bit much but they're really good fast paced songs, great drumming and great timing to keep me moving while exerscizing.

I also have a full-on Duran Duran playlist too for those times when I am feeling a bit 80's Laughing

sauce on the side!  that way you can control the amount of sauce you put on your food.  I usually opt for rice instead of noodles (unless they're rice noodles) and if brown rice is available I choose that over white rice.

Good luck!!!

Weight Loss Eating at night. Aug 19 2008

gaining weight from eating at night is a myth. Here's an article that dispels this myth in detail:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/02/ 060202080832.htm

but if you need more supporting documentation then google "eating at night." I think the issue with eating at night and weight gain is probably more the choices people make, a bag of cookies or a slice or two of pizza. More then the 300-400 calories you're talking about.

I eat small meals all through the day and have lost weight and maintained a healthy weight this way. I'm active and I feel that my metabolism is faster now that i"m eating this way. For a later snack, I recommend some plain, whole fruit, maybe a rice cake or two with some hummus on it, or an ear of corn (very sparing amount of butter) or a few slices of turkey, cup of yogurt or cereal...I just eat random healthy small amounts of things and that works for me.  Not heavy stuff but light wholesome healthy stuff.  That way you don't feel all blown out and weight down when you go to bed.

I dunno...I have a floating final 5-10 pounds that don't seem to want to come off.  I'm trying to combat that this week, I stepped up my cardio and have been doing some calisthenics & stretching in the evening before bed...and being really strict with regard my caloric intake and paying mind to the food choices I"m making...I'll reply later this week and let you know if there's any effect!  Laughing

Foods Cooking for one is hard! Jul 22 2008

I made stuff like chili and freeze it, then pull it out like 2 weeks later.  I made large quantities of things and inevitably give some away to my friends or neighbors.  I'm getting better at buying an appropriate amount of fresh fruits and vegetables based on how much I eat and how long it keeps.  I buy the packages of frozen chicken breasts and pull one out at a time and cook it on an as needed basis.  Or small amounts of fresh from the meat counter.  I bake cornbread muffins or bran oat muffins on the weekend and freeze some of then, pull out one at a time to eat during the work week.  I'm totally with mclaireh in that I freeze in small containers so I grab it and go to work.

As for the canned stuff, I have the same problem as I have 1/2 a can of garbanzo beans in my fridge.  I don't really eat bread but I usually freeze half because I can't eat the whole thing in a reasonable amount of time.  And I use and reuse the good heavy duty freezer bags.  I think has made a difference for me.

I hope that helps!  Laughing

rock on New York!   maybe the 600 calorie muffin will shock people into becoming health conscious and aware of their caloric intake and content.  They should make the entire nutritional label available.  How many people would buy a Supersize Coke if there's a 400 calorie label on the cup?  (Well, I'm sure a lot but it would get many people's wheels turning.)

I can recommend a great non-meat alternative:  Quorn.  It's high in protein, low in calories, and has a great texture.  They sell these "cutlets" that resemble fake chicken, they have these crumbles which are similar to ground beef (I just mix this into tomato sauces and stuff) and chikn' tenders, which are great to stir fry with fresh vegetables.  It's in an orange box in the freezer section and has a great taste!

There's more than that out there that's good, but right now those are my favorite products to cook with!

you know it's funny you mentioned night sweats because I have them, and I've tried every different thing I could think of.  I've opened windows, less blankets, less sleepwear, thinking it's related to anxiety and never thought it was any kind of physiological change.  and I would be soaked, even if I slept with no shirt on  I always feel it's kind of gross and strange how soaked I got.  Not every night but a few times a week or sometimes several days in a row.  I also have been pretty hungry but I'm also really active so I relate it to that.

I pretty much eat all day, I space out fruit, raw vegetables, some kind of whole grains and/or nuts, and small meals through the day.  I drink about 22 ounces of coffee, water, and green tea.  I also have snacks and treats, I'm really conscious of keeping my snacks healthful, but once in a while (like once a month) I have a day of chicken wings and beer or chocolate decadent cakes and seem to burn it off pretty quickly.  I haven't noticed if I sweat more when I fall off the healthy eating bandwagon.  I also haven't noticed if I'm sweating more because I'm eating right before bedtime.

seriously be honest to yourself, no processed foods, read labels--no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial ingredients, fresh fruits and vegetables, water-based foods are best but also make sure you get a good variety of grains, protein, enough calories to sustain your body but at least 500 under your daily recommended intake.  Exercise daily, or at least 5 days of week.  Move your body to burn calories and stimulate your metabolism.  If you crave a treat set a goal and meet it, then choose a smart treat and enjoy the treat in moderation.

That's the formula that's working for me and in the past year I have to say that I've lost 27 pounds.

I think if you work in a large workplace it's okay to bring food to give away.  I frequently give away food and the young guys in the office gobble that stuff up.   We got a bunch of 20-something clerks with lightning metabolisms running around all day.  I'm very clear that it's too much for me, I can't possibly eat that amount of food or store it at my place for fear of eating it.

you could get a salad, get dressing on the side, if you have a choice then choose a low fat option if they have it.  and with grilled or baked fish or chicken on it.  Some of those signature salads that come with dressing on it come loaded with a heavy high calorie portion loaded on it, you can't trust them.  On the side you have a lot more discretion as to the amount you're using.

The Chili and side salad sounds good too.  Yeah I hear you places like Chilis are tough; my family is all about going out to places like those!
