Games & Challenges Anyone want to join my work challenge with me? Jun 25 2009
20:42 (UTC)

Hi Mandi! I found this post and wondered how you did with the 3 month challenge. Did you lose the weight. I am still at 169 and still work out daily, nlt 45 minutes per day. I think the key for my weight loss is monitoring my food. Today was the first day I logged into Calorie Counter...

How are you doing? Do you still have weight to lose. I am looking for a buddy to help with motivation. I plan to really monitor my intake. I have been overweight for to long. Let me know if you've reached your goal.

Hi Amanda,

My name is Paula and I currently weigh 169 pounds (with clothes on and haven't weighed myself today but I appear never to lose weight). Maybe this time it will be different.

Lynnhaslost.

I want to be like you. I am envious. I cannot break a 8.5-9.0 min mile. But then I usually have my IPOD tunes going in my ear. I rock out and pretty much run to the tunes. Anyway, truly I am jealous but nevertheless, keep up the good work and the great physical activity. Peace.

Hey Browneyes,

I can't help you much: I am in much of the same predicament. One day at a time works for me. I didn't realize how many carbs I was taking in until I realized how many how I should consume. I'm on a daily basis, consuming 20g more than I should. I say this to say, you can consume carbs but in moderation.

Since I have found this number (which is probably obvious to most) I have cut back on my intake and have lost over 20 pounds. I also keep my toothbrush handy. Anyway, we are all in this together so hang in there with us. We can do this. Right torbelly?

So how was everybody's day. I did not complete any exercise or track any food. I am drinking a glass of wine and had a bag of peanut m&m's. I possibly consumed 1500 calories if I complete the log.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

Torbelly, I tried to look at your food and activity log to no avail. I did notice you placed your food in your journal. How? I didn't see any physical activity. Did I miss it?

What is everyone's plans for tomorrow? I plan to write my calorie intake and stay in my calorie range of 1200. I also plan to get a 5 mile run. Who knows, maybe I will see some CC  customers out on the track.

Whatever you do, make it a good daySmile

lynnhaslost,

That's a killa run. 3 miles in 15 minutes. Your ranging a 5 minutes mile. That's simply amazing. Most men can't compete with that time. Keep up the good work and with the hanging crunches, your strong.

Stay fit....

I'm 45, female, live in boyfriend, data analyst, 5'1 and weigh 159 pounds. I too am an emotional eater. I am in a challenge but am looking for people to help with motivation and share ideas. So I am interested. Are you using the food and activity log?

I work out about 5 times a week and recently went under 160 pounds. Hooray. I am trying to lower my BMI to 22 and get to 125 pounds. I am getting good information from this site.

Love to write more.

Fitness Wii fit: Now that the new has wore off Jul 24 2008
18:51 (UTC)

I love my Wii. I would use it more often if I had a convenient spot for it. I currently have to pull it out when I need to use it and if it was right there, I'd use it a lot more often.

I work out a lot and its a good change of routine. I have logged in 14 hours since the first day it was released. So it really isn't used that often. I complete a body test once a day. That's pretty fun.

I have encouraged other people to try it out with me. They are not tecnical or fun like me so bygones. I am by myself alot so its cool to have. Sometimes, I turn down the sound and put my IPOD on and attempt the step program. I've mastered level 1. Level 2 is showing how "uncoordinated" I am.

Hey fyrfli,

What's up. Any fun stuff going on with you and your son? and your bf. oops fiance? What has your calorie count been averaging since last checkin? Did you get to 1300 yet? My goal is 1200 and boy it is difficult.

Dinnertime and late night is the most difficult. Yesterday my bf prepared this dish that was extremely good. It took me to my daily calorie allottment. I then ran 4 miles. Upon returning, I had 6 Red Vines and 12 ozs of Gatorade.

My daily total was over 1533. Today's another day. How are you doing?

How funny! I think the person is intimidated and trying to please you. Or lacks knowledge in planning events that are theme based...ex. vegetarianism.

I think that you were nice in giving him the opportunity to express himself while giving you a new experience.  I love how you handled it. Perhaps the burger joint has veggie burgers. Check the menu out while encouraging him to come up with a place.

Good luck.

Weight Loss How many tries did it take you till you were fully committed to a healthier lifestyle? Jul 23 2008

I was at work thinking about this very question. How long have I been on this journey? I recall the exact time it hit. In 1997 I was on a camping trip as a chaperone and this young man invited me to run through Yosemite Valley at 5am. I enjoy running so took this challenge on. I weighed 185 pounds. My heaviest. But I didn't feel overweight/obese.  I recall having a conversation with this young man and he stated, it doesn't matter how fast you get to point B but the quality and time that it takes you go to get there. Enough said about that. That was the moment that I decided I need to improve my health.

I have always been an runner but the nutrition part has been missing. Not until I found this site that I began taking this "nutrition" piece serious. I went to see a nutritionist. I have incorporated some of the lesssons learned but still my carbs are way too high.

I recently purchased The South Beach Diet to help understand the cravings. I know there are many lessons to be learned. I really appreciate this site because so many people have insights and tidbits, along with frank discussion about losing weight. I don't feel so all alone. Its not that I need to be in this endeavour with anyone. I have all of you. Thanks to all and here's to having a healthy lifestyle.

Sounds like a lot of fun. What else did you do to help out with your goal? Any strength training or aerobics. Your doing great keeping the calorie intake low. It appears you have it planned out what you eat throughout the day. This is very helpful in achieving your goal.

The Quiznos italian sub may be a bit heavy in calories but as long as your exercising and not putting extra's onto the sub, you'll be okay. You know what you need to do. I know the hardest thing is staying committed. But with October nearing and your big day.....

All right fyrfli.  Whoo hoo! Congratulations! I don't have much experties to offer but I may be able to help with motivations.  I would like to help out as much as possible. 20 pounds sounds doable.

So what would you like from us.  How should we do this? I have weight to lose to. I am 5'1 and weigh 163 lbs.  I try to weigh in once a week. I've been part of CC sinc May 1. I take a yoga class 4 days a week and try to walk a minimal of 60 minutes 5 days a week. For my attempt, I need to maintain 1200-1400 calories a day. That's not much.

I can post my food or maybe I can open my food and activity log. We can figure something out. Let me know how you would like this part of your journey to unfold and again CONGRATULATION!!!!

Weight Loss How often do you jump on the scale? Jul 09 2008
23:12 (UTC)

I purchased the Wi Fit program and it weighs me every time I get on the scale and records my weight along with my BMI. I try to do this once a week but sometimes it gets a little difficult because I have to go through a setup procedure. I find it useful to me because it records accurately my progress while taking into account the time of day or night I weigh myself. I can also see my hi's and lo's.

It shows when I weigh myself vs. the end of day and lets me know that the measurement taken at the beginning of the day, after hygiene has taken place, is much more accurate.

So, I weigh myself once a week due to the fun it can bring. I would like to day it daily but as stated, its a task to setup the Wi.

Weight Loss I'm sooooo frustrated!! Jul 01 2008

I agree with lisaokafor3288; elliptical machines are not that efficient. From personal experience, don't rely on the gym machines to give you accurate heart rate and calories burned. I'm 5'1" and work out no less than 60 minutes a day. I weigh 160 pounds. I have constantly ran no less that a 11.5 mph with my heart rate at a constant 98bpm. No weight loss. Not one pound. I had to figure out why. So I read and read and read....

All of this weight stuff is a science.  I found this site which when I had time to really slow down and understand some of the trainers, experts and teachers amongst us,  I was able to focus on the numbers that are important to me in my weight loss goal.

With that said, I purchased a heart rate monitor. I programmed it for myself and found that a high heart rate does not promote weight loss goals. I put in my target heart weight and noticed that I have been moving too fast. So I had to slow down. I stopped running 5 miles a day and walk briskly 5 miles. I do not use the elliptical at all.  Many suggest that elliptical machines create a larger bottom. ???? Anyway, now that I have slowed down and monitor my food intake while tweaking my calorie intake, I have lost weight. I actually broke my plateau,

deamarie,

What are you saying? You lost 9 pounds. That's a good start. There's a lot of useful information on this site that you may find helpful along with some encouragement. It sounds like you have hit a plateau and have to do a little more tweaking.

I am new to this site and can't really point you to any directions. I need support and advice to because I don't know if what I am doing is all together going to get me to my idea weight of 130 pounds. But I do intend to keep having fun trying.

You know you don't have to say no to everything, anything can be eaten in moderation. Good luck.

Hey Cheryl,

Thanks for writing back and putting me on your friend list. The Wii just recently released the Wii Fit which has all these cool programs to help get you active. Check this out. You know when you begin the game, you create a character. After purchasing the Wii Fit, there's a built in scale that adjusted my character to reflect my "true" characteristics to help me in my lifestyle change. It was funny when it occurred and its okay because it motivates me to pay attention to me.

How was your day today? Did you get off the couch?

Hi Everyone, I too am looking for friends,  encouragement, motivation and advice to help in this lifestyle change. I am 45 years old, 5'2 and weigh 163. I am trying to get to 130-135 by January 1, 2009.  I have a sedentary job however I do walk 90 minutes, 5 days a week on the treadmill each evening where I am logging in about 400 -500 calories.

I want to share with you that I too have found a new love: Wii walking. I used to run vigorously 5-7 miles per day but have recently shifted to walking. Its so much easier on my joints.  I recently acquired a WII and have an instant partner to encourage me to move. So I am having fun again challenging myself to get off of the couch.

Hope to chat with anyone that is willing to respond:}.

Weight Loss Office Temptations... Jun 03 2008

Oh Maddie, I feel for you. I once worked for a company as a summer hire that put together the marketing advertisements for the Sunday papers.

It was for a large grocery chain that catered to vendors. These vendors would send daily samples of their wares; test samples. I hated it. My desk was used as the catchall for all of this junk food. It actually made me sick to see the how companies would try to entice "me" with there foods so I would give them a better spot in the newspaper.  There were other things wrong with the job but...

With you,  just think, its only for summer. And this too shall pass, Enjoy the days of summer.

Really, its a good show of discipline to turn away and eat the stuff that is good for you. Perhaps takes breaks, bring healthy snacks or keep a jug of ice water with you so when the temptation does strike you will have the upper hand. Good luck.

Foods Sugar Addicts! May 28 2008

I love sugary sweets too. Its a sin to enjoy sugar so much. When I was a child I used to eat sugar bread. I morphed into M&M, cookies and cakes and coffee with Splenda.

I thought I was moving away from sugar  by trying Splenda but its everywhere. I did want to share one thing. My nutritionist told me to cut back on sugar. She told me to not eat fruit in the morning and to eat only fruit that is low in sugar like grapefruit for breakfast.

The goal is no cakes, candy, cookies and for a week. I can do this. Count me in. Minimum fruit or fruit with low sugar content like grapefruit is where I am going. When do we begin. Today is a good day to begin a countdown.

Weight Loss Craving nothing but junk food! Does anyone else? May 28 2008

I have this problem a week before my cycle. I am fully aware of it so I try to adjust my eating habits but sometimes I give in and eat the Lays chips and ice cream. I would really like to get this under control because although I stay within my calorie range, I know its unhealthy eating and high fat content.

So I don't know if I made you feel normal. I am in the same boat as you and probably so many others. The cravings do subside and I do get back on track. If there is any advice to overcome these cravings, I would like to know the answer to this too.
