Not really much of a run.  I would call it more of a very slow jog.  Really taking it easy to limit impact anyway.

You are probably right about the extra stress.  It would seem that having the extra weight above the knees (like in a back pack) it would add more stress that having the weight below the knees.

Running hills certainly gives you a more exerted workout but it works different muscles than having the added weight on your legs too.

Thanks for the advice.  I am trying to take it easy and allow my joints to last as long as possible.

Just curious about your running.  You said that you have run marathons but you did not mention running as part of your schedule now.

If you were running a lot more in the past I am sure your body got very efficient with the calories you were eating.  Although biking and the elliptical trainer is good exercise but running is a more of a weight bearing exercise and it burns more calories.  If your running has slacked off and your caloric intake remained the same you could see a rise in the pant size.  It happened to me about 3 years ago even though I remained active and even increased weight lifting.

Just something to think about.

This weeks weigh-in: Down another 10lbs to 255.

I just may hit my July 4th goal after all.  Only 5 more to go. Cool

So far that is 41lbs lost since April 30th (less than 2 months) Now only 70 more lbs to go to hit my goal weight.

Been to plenty of topless beaches (no big deal).  When I was in the navy and our ship stopped in Palma de Majorca off the coast of Spain my buddy and I sought out a nude beach. Lots of young totally naked Europeans vacationing on a secluded beach.  Got more sun on my buns than I care to remember. Volleyball in the buff was interested. Cool

As for today I am more conservative than I was then so I would not be so bold these days.

Todays weight is 264 -- Down 4 lbs. since last week and down 30 lbs since May1st. WOW. All I did is change from Coke to Diet Coke. Wink

I had posted a loss of 4 lbs last week.  I think that changes the standings for the week.

I agree. I have seen some grades that did not make sense.  But you should keep an eye on more than just the calories and the Fat/Protein/Carb split.  Watch the saturated fat, cholesterol, fiber and sodium too.  Here are some recommendations I found online:

  • Carb - 45 - 65%
  • Protein - 10 - 35%
  • Fat - 20 - 35%
  • Saturated fat - no more than 10% of total daily calorie intake
  • Transfat - no more than 1% of your total daily calorie intake
  • Cholesterol - no more than 300 milligrams a day
  • Fiber - Men = 30-38grams Women = 21-25 grams
  • Sodium - 1,500 - 2,400 milligrams per day

It is a give and take.  If I want to eat ice cream,  then I have to offset it that day with the rest of my diet.

I was saddened to read your post.  You are a beautiful person.  Not just on the outside but on the inside too.  How do I know this?  Because a loving God created you.

I sincerely pray that your marriage strengthens and you both grow more in love with each other.

Sugar is still sugar but but unrefined sugar (fructose) that comes in a fruit with fiber will be metered out in your body over a longer period of time so therefore it does not spike your blood as much as refined white sugar (aka poison)

Muscles go first too because they are made of protein which is better than fat when you are starving.

Yea I agree.  You need a minimum amount of caloric intake daily or else your metabolism will slow down and so will your burn rate. Not sure what your calorie goal is and therefore what your consumption is but I think 1200 is the minimum you want to go.

I am 42 as well.  Seems like the older we get the less we can just "eat drink and be merry" without any consequence.   Starting to "keep score" on our intake is a major step in changing our habits. Welcome to CC.

I think chocolate milk is too high in simple carbs, more calories from fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and very little other vitamins.  Compare the nutritional value on CC to the Kul Fuel. Just my opinion.

I have been working with the recipes and it says you can add any item from their database using the ID number but I have not been able to find an ID number for the items.  Does anyone know where to find it?  I am sure I am looking right at it and just can't see it.  Thank

Weight Loss I was thinking...the best diet? Jun 09 2008
16:28 (UTC)

True to a point.  I could easily stick to a diet of pizza but it would not be too healthy for me. I think you can look at diet (food intake) like a continuum that starts on the left with the most excellent healthiest food known to man and on the right, poison. (two extremes)

We need to find a point as far to the left that will work for us based on a few factors:

  1. Our current health issues
    1. Some health problems may warrant certain foods to eat or avoid
  2. A diet that helps us meet our objectives
    1. Losing fat, gaining muscle, etc
  3. One that is practical for our lifestyle
    1. time, expense, availability, eating out, etc
  4. One that we enjoy and will stick with
    1. tasty, satisfying, etc

Just my 2 cents - spend it wisely Wink

I have found that cows milk causes more allergy issues with me. I prefer almond or rice milk (vanilla) I did not like the taste of soy milk.

My wife and I have each had an accident that was the other persons fault.  There can be several factors: Were your injury (injuries) what they call soft tissue damage (no broken bones etc). Did you take an ambulance to the hospital? Were your children injured and what were their injuries, treatments and prognosis. Do you have an attorney working on your behalf?  (We used an attorney both times and feel we could have done it ourselves, saved the 1/3 contingency fee and probably netted more in our pocket.)

What helps me is keeping a running log and schedule. I have every single day's running planned in advance of what I have to do.  Then I can check it off once it is done.  I usually take Monday's off but when I skipped last Saturday I decided I needed to run last Monday to make up for it.  I certainly don't feel like running 6 days a week.  When I really feel unmotivated and I need to run anyway I just tell myself I will take a nice slow easy run just so I can check it off the list.  I always end up pushing myself in the run anyway and still get a good workout.

Use those blocks as motivating stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks to help motivate you. Keep your goals in front of you and in your mind to help you reach them.  You can can do it!!

Weight Loss calorie deficit May 06 2008

I am not sure how you compute the amount of calories you are burning with your exercise. If you are using a basic chart like the one on this site you should keep in mind that over time if you do the same exercise over and over your body will find a way to get very efficient at it and burn less calories than normally would take place.  Change up your activities, cross train, change pace or something.

Since you do so much walking at your job your body is probably efficient at walking.  You would need to speed it up or do some other types of exercising to get more benefit.  I hit the same wall when I was losing weight.
