For me personally I hate the pill. I was on it for 17 years and the doctors had stopped my periods completely due to severe menstrual cramps. They did this by giving me the active pill all 30 to 31 days of the month. I started having problems with night sweats, low grade fevers and muscle aces. The symptoms got worse over the years. I lost all my sexual drive completely in the last 5 years on it. It caused some turmoil in my marriage. I also lost a lot of my emotions on the pill and felt so much less like a lady. Once I got off it, all of a sudden all those emotions came back and I could not be happier. I love being a women, having a sex drive and a good cry once in awhile. I also enjoy not feeling like I have bouts of the flu five times a month. I would have to say I feel 100% better off it. Also they have now proved that birth control can completely destroy you libido if taken too long and can cause you to not be able to conceive. I still do not believe that birth control does not increase your risk for breast cancer. I had three gynecologists tell me that there is more estrogen in birth control than what is given to older women with menopause, but yet there is a warning for them. My last doctor, a very good one, told me to get off them because she did believe in the risk of breast cancer due to estrogen. I have been having problems with lumps in my breasts, which I am still dealing with, I have a ultrasound appt. set up. I am sorry but I truly think they do not want younger women to know the truth in order to keep control of the population. I had a friend, a great aunt and a friend of my aunt, all die from breast cancer. All had no family history and all took birth control. My one friend was 32 when she died. I cannot be sure that is what caused their cancer, but there has been proof that added estrogen can increase your risk for breast cancer, even in men. I say listen to your doctor to a point but if you are not happy find a different doctor. I have had my share of bad doctors with bad advice. It is your life, plain and simple and you know your body best. Not eating is your problem, I do not see why you should take any other risks besides eating.

Oink: Some antidepressants can cause you to become obsessive and may trigger old behaviors to start up, such as an old eating disorder or compulsive shopping. If you never had those problems, for most people it won't make you start, but if you did, than you really have to be careful. Also some antidepressants can make you lose your appetite, which is also a concern for people with ED. Usually in the detailed manual there will be a warning if a medication can tend to do this, but not always. If you find yourself slipping back into old behaviors on this medication than please tell your doctor. You medication will do nothing for you if your starving your body of vital nutrients. Also please remember it will not trigger this behavior to start again in all people even if it is a possibility. I would talk to your doctor again if you are concerned you will not be able to take charge if this problem should occur.
Like Rflan said, everyone responds to antidepressants differently. Wellbutrin turned me into a zombie, but for others in here, it may have saved their lives. Just do not give up, there are so many antidepressants and many do not cause weight gain.

Hello, Wow, I did not expect so many responses, thank you very much! There are some great answers. I really appreciate it. I am a little worried about soybean, because I have been told that soybean can slow your digestive track down, which is already a big problem for me. Anyone else ever heard of it doing this? Also because soybean is a natural steroid some studies have linked it to an increase in breast cancer in women? Not sure about this, but since my husband had cancer, it scares me. I am sure a little is OK, but to take it everyday concerns me. I did find whey at the health food store that claims to be dairy free, not sure about how they managed that one? Also I appreciate the advice about the cholesterol since that has been a problem with me. Imtkain thanks for the recipe, I will try it with rice milk. Probably not as good as milk but I am getting use to the rice milk.
Chris: I found out about my protein deficiency through my blood work. I had an illness for a year and a half, so my doctors keep a close eye on everything. It seems I am always giving blood. I actually had no complaints at the time I had the blood work done, so it was by good doctors as to how I found out. My doctor seemed very concerned, so this is why I ask the question, how serious really is a protein deficiency? Some doctors do tend to exaggerate a little, while others let the small things go. I have to be careful when looking on the web, because I swear by the time I am done reading the articles, I conclude I am dying from a soar thumb. OK I am exaggerating a little, but does anyone else know what I mean? Thought I would come in here and talk with real people. Which by the way, I am happy I did.
Marydaz: I never heard of seitan, is that also a soybean or is it something else?
Agruskin: Before I got sick I ate around 1500 calories a day with exercise. I am trying to lose the extra 15 pounds that I put on due to being sick and it has been very hard for me to take it off. So I started looking for help to get the extra 15 pounds off and I came across the weight calculator. It said for my age, height and activity level, in order for me to lose 1 pound per week, I would have to consume 1323 calories a day. So I am around that daily now. Taking off weight was so easy when I was young. I hate getting older.

I understand and feel for you, my husband has no interest in food either. He is older than me and I am 37 and food has always been a struggle. His mom said he was always like that. He is now drinking a supplement. What about trying ensure or boost? If you cannot get yourself to do a calorie drink, than try to stretch you stomach slowly with a little extra food everyday or even every week. Just continue to work at it. I can understand about the fear of taking in extra calories. I was a low calorie eater all my life, so I understand once you start gaining weight the fear is very real. It also does not help that we live in a society that shows unhealthy underweight models everywhere being defined as to what pretty is. We all want to be pretty and loved so I think for many of us it is so much easier to be self destructive than take care of ourselves. I would strongly recommend hiding the scale for a month or two while your body has the time to adjust to the extra calories. Someone you age should be getting at least 1400 calories and if you cannot do it on your own, than please get help from a doctor. When I was younger I caused permanent problems to my heart by doing what you are doing. The good news is, you are young and it will be easy for you to readjust your metabolism, once your body adjusts to the extra calories, exercise is all you will need to keep your cute body, maybe even easier with the increased calories. Just hide the scale, and give it time.

I gain weight easily also, I take Lexapro and I have not gained weight from the medication. Lexapro is not supposed to have that side affect. My two sisters, mom and cousin also take Lexapro without any weight gain problems from the medication. If you should be taking an antidepressant I would recommend getting back on one for your own well being. I am sure you are well aware how a little thing can become a big thing when you are suffering from depression. Being on your medication will also help you to make better decisions about your body. 5’ 5” 1/2 and 134-138 pounds is a normal BMI for you but I can sympathize with you because I gained weight due to an illness and I feel much better with my BMI being lower but still normal which was 114 pounds at 5” 4”. |

| Weight Loss | anybody ever try FucoThin? | Jul 12 2008 06:21 (UTC) |

Hello, I wanted to touch base and let you know what I think of the Fucothin after being on it for seven weeks. Did it work for me, well yes and no. It helped me to change my mind frame. When I started to take the Fucothin it was the beginning of my realization that I had to start working out again. Do I believe the fucothin actually took the weight off me, no, I do not.
I had an illness that brought me down for a year and I put on 30 extra pounds on 12,000 calories a day. When I started to feel physically better, mentally I was unhappy with my body so I tried Fucothin. I did lose 4 pounds but I strongly contribute that was due to feeling better and I had started to have an increase in energy and working out a little more.
I only had one week left off pills and felt $40.00 was a lot to give a third month a try. I decided to quit, bought an elliptical on craigslist and lost another 4 pounds this week. My own personal conclusion is after a certain age there is no way around losing weight without working out. I even ate more calories last week, let’s face it 12,000 calories everyday for the rest of your life is unrealistic. I truly believe you have to get that metabolism back up with good old fashioned exercise and it took me two months to do it, so do not give up on the exercise if you do not see immediate results. I almost did and I am glad that I did not.
I know several people swear by Fucothin, but if you read through the posts in here most did change their diet or added some sort of exercise. Just taking the stairs verses the elevator could cause you to start losing weight in about the same time Fucothin claims that it kicks in. Read the box and it will tell you it is meant to be used with diet and exercise. I think you are paying $40.00 for seaweed.
My best advice is to invest in an elliptical, low impact high fat burn and skip the Fucothin. You can get a good one used for about the same price as eight months on Fucothin. My intention is not to hurt anyone in here that feels like Fucothin has helped them. I am just stating my opinion. If you decide you want to try it, do not be afraid of it, it really has no more side affects than a multivitamin, it is just seaweed. I only had my elliptical a week but I will let you know if I continue to lose weight off the Fucothin and on the elliptical. |

| Weight Loss | pounds vs. inches | May 08 2008 06:20 (UTC) |

Working out, weight lifting or just being more active can cause you to lose fat and gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat but is much leaner and therefore for some will notice loss in inches rather than in weight at first. Also bloating/water gain can cause a waistline to appear larger than it actually is. |

You know I question this also about Stevia, but from what I have heard mostly is that your brain does not recognize the artificial chemicals along with the sweet taste. I am assuming your brain would have a much better chance recognizing natural foods, although maybe time will tell. I have heard good things about agave and xylitol, especially xylitol having many other health benefits. They are natural and for me personally, I would much rather put something natural in my body. |

Hello Kell, I know it’s not the same nor near as hard, but four years ago I had a very bad reaction to dinner and could not breath. I found out I was allergic to 20 foods and many where found in what seemed like every product. I had a horrible time shopping and giving up those foods. In time I learned my way around it and learned how to curve those cravings with other foods. I also really do not miss the foods that I cannot eat that much anymore. Hang in there I am almost sure it will get easier. |

Hello Kell, I am sorry that you have such a horrible condition. According to the American Heart Association there are studies that shows people who use diet drinks and artificial sugars are at a higher risk for obesity and metabolic syndrome (a medley of medical problems such as abdominal fat, high blood pressure and insulin resistance that puts people at risk for heart disease and diabetes). It just seems there has got to be a better way for people with your condition. Unfortunately I think a lot of these harsh chemicals we put into our bodies are not about health or diet but rather money. |

Artificial sweeteners are so awful for your body. Losing weight should not mean you destroy your body. Studies are showing that artificial sweeteners may actually be making you fatter. If you already have not seen this on the world news, please research this yourselves. Just type in these words under search, (artificial sugar can make you fat) and you will find lots of info from ABC News, CBS, Time and many more sites talk about this subject. If you love desert and sugar, try Stevia in your deserts or tea. Stevia is an all natural herb that is sweeter than sugar and has no calories. You can find this at Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, many natural grocers carry it. There is a big difference between Stevia and artificial sweetener and the word artificial should say it all. Please do your own research about how artificial sugars affects your body and also research Stevia. Knowledge is a powerful thing. Did you know that asthma and allergies have increased very significantly? Feeling tired, have aches or have a weird symptom that will not go away? With all the crap we put in our bodies it is a no wonder! Eat non-toxic foods, exercise, and you will have so much more energy for your weight loss. That does not mean you have to eat salads all the time and no dessert. I have to agree with GI Jane! When your dieing for that soda and do not drink it everyday, really go for the regular and run from the diet, you are being so much more kind to your body. Do not drink it everyday though, if you do, quit! Soda, especially cola has some other nasty side affects besides calories or sugar. Try a cup or iced green tea with Stevia instead. Green tea has so many things in it that are good for you and studies are showing it may help aid with weight loss. Weight loss should not be about deprivation, chemicals or beauty. Weight loss should really be about the need to love oneself inside and out, which means caring about our health! |
