Today's weigh in was 124.0. I feel good even though I've been sick. Makinitcount-- lattes with skim and sugar free syrup have 90 calories in a small 12 ounce cup. 150 in a large 20 ounce cup. I have switched to americanos with a little bit of skim. I think it's better for me to skip all that dairy and sugar substitutes. Probably best that you aren't into that. It can be a very expensive habit! I'm glad you're still in the 30s even if it takes a while to see a change. I'm the same way. Slow to lose hopefully means slow to gain (although I totally know that's not the case. It takes weeks to lose and minutes to gain. Blast!!!). Have a great weekend everyone. |

Oh yeah, I forgot to say what my job is. I'm a full time student and I work at a coffee shop. Working at a coffee shop is much cooler when you're not trying to lose weight. Free white chocolate mint mochas with whipped cream? I wish I could have that! Gosh, I'm so sick of fat free lattes with sugar free vanilla syrup. So boring! It'll be worth it though. 2nluv, I'm on break too and I LOVE it! I've been reading, cooking different vegetable soups, sleeping in, taking ZUMBA classes at the gym. I will be sad to go back in 3 weeks.

Happy New Year's to you too! This is my new new year's weight-related goal: If I want to go 'off' or eat something that I know I probably shouldn't and I know I won't be able to stop after just one piece, I have to take a 10 minute walk outside first. I'm going to really try to do that. And where I live it's freaking freezing so hopefully that will be a deterent enough. 1/2/09: 126/124.5/116 Yesterday I was 123 but I'll go by today's weigh in. Dang it! Yay for being under 140. The visual of seeing a different first 2 numbers on the scale is so powerful. I can't wait to see it myself!

Weigh in for today was 124.0. Had a couple holiday parties where I exercised a lot of self control. One night though I really let myself go, gobbling everything in sight BEFORE I even went to the party. Oh bugger. but it's Friday and I'm feeling really good today. Hope everyone had a great christmas and happy new year's! |

Thanks 1200 calgirl. Yeah, I was pretty pissed yesterday! Today is better. I had to check the scale just to know that I didn't really gain. And it did say 123 so that made me feel better. How do you prepare your pancakes? I want some! I really want to bake some xmas sugar cookies but I definitely don't want to be hungry the rest of the day because that used all my calories. Do you bake those with lower cal recipes? I'm going to look for some online now. |

I don't get it!!!!!!!!!! I have been working so hard both on the eating and the working out. 126/125/116 Why is this so hard??? I got cocky a couple weeks ago when I had a 3.6 pound drop in 1 week. This is so incredibly frustrating/difficult/annoying. This is turning into a vent. I really just want pancakes and christmas cookies. I'm starving now. I'm waiting for my brown rice to finish steaming. And I'll eat it with some boring south beach diet chicken. And I'll probably still be hungry. I am so incredibly grumpy right now. Sorry to be such a downer. Have a great weekend guys:) |

I weigh myself naked, first thing in the morning. But last week it was after breakfast because I ran out of time. It's getting harder with winter (or maybe that's just an excuse). I have to reteach myself how to drink water throughout the day. Yuck!!! |

| Health & Support | Do you think it is possible to love yourself without being skinny? | Nov 30 2008 14:54 (UTC) |

It's really hard with pressure from family, the media, friends (especially guy friends). Even though I have a pretty supportive ciricle now, there are messages that are stuck in my head from years of hearing them. When I was a freshman in college I was hanging out with my new guy friends in the dorm. I was pretty insecure and definitely not skinny. One of the guys said, "The girl should always be smaller than the guy in a relationship. If she's not, it's time to drop her fat a--." And then everyone laughed. Ugh, that totally sticks with me to this day. Anyway, I think if we make an effort to correct our critical thoughts in our heads, to boycott the magazines and TV shows that always show beautiful, skinny women as happy and successful, and to strive for healthy living, we can love ourselves without being skinny. Easier said than done, I know. |

I'm a little nervous about this. But my plan is to fill up on a big portion of turkey and whatever vegetable and then pick one side dish instead of 4. I love sweet potatoes so if that's available that's what I'll have. As for dessert, I'll try to just have one small piece of pie and not eat the crust. It's at my step mom's who fortunately and unfortunately is not a great cook! Things aren't quite as tempting as when I go to my mom's, but what I do eat I end up not enjoying and it's loaded with oil. She also makes awful tea and coffee (I know how can you screw that up? But she really does!) and those are usually the things that help me get through dessert w/o eating cake or pie. The other thing I'm nervous about is saying 'no.' I don't want anyone to know that I'm watching my weight or counting calories. If someone asks why I'm not eating more, I'm not quite sure what I'll say (and they probably will ask). I'll probably say "I'm just trying not to do overdo it." |

I'm glad to hear some non-calorie counters are having success too! It's funny how just thinking about food makes you hungry for it. And when I was counting I was ALWAYS thinking about it. I am actually looking forward to eating meals out now, as opposed to dreading them. |

| Motivation | How do I stop snacking? | Nov 17 2008 13:32 (UTC) |

I stuggle with this too. Lately I have been eating a little bit every 3 hours. If I'm hungry I try to wait until it's time for the next snack and then eat something with protein and fat in it. Also it helps if I start drinking water in the beginning of the day. If I'm hungry, it's really hard to drink a cup of water or a cup of tea. But if I start drinking it before I'm really hungry, it doesn't get to the point where I just want food and not water. Does that make sense? I'm totally with you though. Snacking is my downfall. Even if it's healthful foods, it takes me a while to know I'm full. So I can eat a lot of calories before I feel satisfied. |

When I finish, I know I did something good for me and my time was not wasted. The endorphins that get released! I think of my workouts like my medication. I need them to be in optimal mental healthy as well as physical. Telling people I "went for a run." Just makes me sound so in shape! |

Good idea! It's so interesting how so many people who are at my dream weight are unhappy with their bodies. Just goes to show, perspective is everything. Self-esteem is never tied to a dress size. 1) what's your name?: 2) male, or female?: female 3) how old are you?: 25 4) how tall are you?: 5'3 5) how much do you weigh currently?: havent' weighed in a while. About 121 though. 6) are you happy with your body?: No. But I'm trying really hard to be. 7) what's your favorite calorie-reduced product? (sugar-free yogurt, calorie-wise mayo, etc): light popcorn with powdered white cheddar and diet root beer 8) do you try to eat clean?: yes 9) do you have a gym membership?: yes. Thank God. 10) when was the last time you went to the gym, or exercised?: This morning 11) what's your favorite form of exercise?: I like spin class. I'm starting to like running more. Especially on a beautiful day with a good friend! 12) what's your least favorite form of exercise?: Not a big fan of pilates. I take weight lifting classes but the only part I like is the stretching at the end! 13) do you strength-train?: Yes 14) how often do you go to the gym or exercise?: 5 days a week 15) does anyone else exercise with you? (friends, family, etc): Yes. I do 5 group classes a week so I see the same people. My friend also comes and sometimes my mom. 16) what's your #1 food weakness?: Sweets. Chocolate bars especially. 17) do you actually drink enough water?: I have at least 8 cups a day but I feel I need more! 18) how many more pounds to do you want to lose?: I'd love to lose 8 pounds. I'd be happy with 2 now though because it's so hard! 19) do you own a food scale?: Yes but I don't use it very much 20) are you craving anything right now?: No because I went all out today and had 2 huge chocolate chip pancakes with syrup. Usually I crave sweets and big Italian meals all the time. |

| Weight Loss | How often do you check your weight? | Oct 20 2008 17:13 (UTC) |

I used to check it several times a day. I found it motivating. But in the last two months it's become so much harder to lose weight and seeing the number ruins my mood and motivation. So I haven't checked in a while. I'll check it again once I start fitting into my smaller pants because then I'll know for sure it went down. The scale can be a great motivator or it can enable an ED. I have moved mine to the closet for now:) |

This can't be for real. Can it? If you ate like this, wouldn't you be embarrassed to let everyone know? It's like asking people to tell you that you have an eating disorder. |

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one!!! I appreciate the suggestions and have been trying to up my water. I know the way to eat under 1800 calories a day and stay relatively full is by eating mostly tomatoes and cucumbers and hardly anything else. But I don't want to be that weird girl that goes to bar and brings her own Crystal Lite packet. And I'm not going to show up to a friend's dinner party with a tub of celery.

I have seen so many different labels for soft pretzels. I LOVE soft pretzels from the Target food court. I've seen them ranging from 200-600. I think the big ones are probably around 400. A salted bagel has about 320 and they are probably pretty similar. I think they're a great snack because they're low in sodium (I get w/o the salt) and low in fat. But they're high in calorie and carbs. If you can budget them in, go for it! They're very satisfying. |

I got my disordered relationship with food from my parents. My mom is always trying to lose weight. She yo-yos, feels guilty and then will restrict herself to 1,000 calorie days. My dad is also thin because he runs a lot and restricts, but he binges and I also know he doesn't enjoy food. He just inhales it right away. He is also extremely cruel when talking about overweight people. My grandmothers on both sides define people's character by their weight. You're unworthy if you're heavy. You're ambitious and valued if you are thin. It stinks. I don't have any kids, but if I ever do I hope I can stop the chain of judgement, guilt, depression, and shame. I hope I can have a healthy relationship with food and pass that on. |
